Iron Horse Brewery Releases Mocha Death in Cans

September 7, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Mocha Death is your Pacific Northwest toolkit that now comes in 6-pack 12 oz cans so it’s even easier to take with you on your next campout.

It’s a dark beer with a huge espresso nose – so big you can taste it. Pure cocoa and all the complexity of our Irish Death rolled together with the aforementioned coffee notes to dole out a highly enjoyable slap in the face. It pairs well with campfires, trail mix and breakfast, so next time you whip up those pancakes you might want to whip out a can of Mocha Death.

Iron Horse is celebrating the release of this beer in cans by giving away a single tap kegerator so consumers and fandvocates (fans and advocates) can drink their favorite brew whenever desire strikes. Two grand prize winners will receive a kegerator that will be stuffed with Iron Horse Brewery merchandise, 50 pounds of coffee, a grinder and mugs, so they’ll be ready for anything in the Pacific Northwest.

A consumer favorite returns.

According to Andrew E., Mocha Death is “Decent.”

Another fan, Sean C., countered with “Rich chocolate and mocha taste. Great bold start and finishing to it. Awesome tasting and deadly. Sometimes, I wish it was year round.”

Local coffee roaster

Mocha Death is made in collaboration with D&M Coffee Roasters, which has been roasting their delicious beans for over 20 years.

“‘Local working with local’ is one of our favorite awkward phrases and one of our more important company philosophies,” said Greg Parker, owner and general manager at Iron Horse Brewery. “D&M is actively involved in our farmlandian town of Ellensburg through fundraisers, civic engagement, community events and providing enough wakey-wakey fuel to keep motoring on everyday. We’re glad to continue working with them as we move to our new 6-packs.”

“Mocha Death in six-packs is a highly enjoyable organoleptic experience,” said Ross Chalstrom, interloper of press release quotes. “The only thing missing is a flannel shirt, which we’re guessing you’ll bring to whatever occasion you find yourself in.”

Release and availability

Mocha Death 6-packs will be available in Washington beginning September 1st and will follow in other states. 22 oz bottles and draught will be released at that time as well, which is a month earlier than in previous years. [ you’re welcome ].

The release has been in the works for several months with placement secured at several of the major chain grocery retailers as well as independent grocers and beer retailers. Consumers hoping to get their hands on the six-packs can use Iron Horse Brewery’s Beer Finder for exact locations. The Beer Finder can be found at http://ihor.se/beerfinder.

Take a picture of a mocha can and your breakfast. Submit it to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #mochadeathbfast to be entered to win a branded stainless steel mug. Or visit www.mochadeath.com to enter to win the Pacific Northwest Toolkit grand prize that includes a single tap kegerator filled with IHB goods, 50 pounds of coffee, a grinder and mugs. Sufferfest Beer Releases Low-Calorie, Low-Carb Beer Enhanced with Bee Pollen

September 7, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

SAN FRANCISCO — Sufferfest Beer Company, a functional beer brand out of San Francisco, is excited to launch the Repeat Kolsch: a low cal, low carb, low-alcohol beer heightened with bee pollen superfood, for the healthy and active beer drinker.

“Our Repeat Kolsch boasts full flavor and body, but without the calories and carbs weighing you down,” said Caitlin Landesberg, CEO and founder of Sufferfest Beer Company. “We use bee pollen because it’s a great way to introduce an unforgettably rich flavor without juicing the stats.”
Bee pollen superfood adds honeyed floral aromas, but more significantly imparts incredible anti-inflammatory and immune system-stimulating properties.

The Repeat includes vitamins, minerals, proteins, lipids and fatty-acids, and at a mere 95 calories and 5 grams of carbs per serving, it’s a balanced, yet full-bodied kolsch. “There’s no beer out there this flavor-centric that has achieved these nutritional stats,” she added.

Sufferfest Beer Company’s breakthrough kolsch is the craft, premium and health-conscious alternative to the low-cal summer beers mass produced by macro breweries. “We thought of Repeat as an exercise in adding things — more flavor, more nutrition — rather than removing calories and carbs,” says Landesberg. “We focused on achieving balance and the result reflects that intention.”
Sufferfest beers are truly purposed-brewed to provide more benefits. The Repeat joins Sufferfest’s star functional lineup: the FKT Pale Ale, Flyby Pilsner, Taper IPA, and Shakeout Blonde.

About Sufferfest
Sufferfest fuels active, healthy and passionate humans with premium quality beer. Born out of the needs of athletes and adventurers, we make award-winning functional beer for those who go the extra mile. We’re committed to serving delicious beer that delivers more benefits without settling on taste or quality. Sufferfest Beer Co. is a certified B Corporation, because we’re dedicated to practicing environmental sustainability and positively impacting the communities in which we sweat, drink and celebrate. Dogfish Head Releases Punkin Ale

September 6, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

MILTON, Del. – Oh my gourd, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s Punkin Ale is back! Debuting in 1995 and now one of America’s best-selling pumpkin beers, Punkin Ale, a full-bodied brown ale, is now available on taps and shelves. Clocking in at 7% ABV, this beer is brewed with real pumpkin, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon.

“We’ve been brewing Punkin Ale for over two decades, since long before there was a whole category of pumpkin beer, and have seen sales grow each and every year,” said Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “I think it’s because the complexity and authenticity of the recipe has remained world-class since we first brewed it, as it’s not made with pumpkin flavoring or concentrates – we use fresh, all-natural culinary ingredients, and that makes a big difference.”

Passionate about all things artistic and creative, Dogfish teamed up with longtime friend and highly acclaimed designer, Marq Spusta, a California-based artist known for his distinct illustrative style, to create the Off-Centered Art Series label and artwork for Punkin Ale.  The label features Spusta’s version of a mystically haunted, Halloween forest with spooky characters.

The story of Punkin Ale originally began in 1994 when it won first place in a baking contest at the World Championship Punkin Chunkin, a legendary fall event in coastal Delaware that took place on and off from 1986-2016, where folks travel from around the world to see who can hurl a pumpkin the furthest. Twenty-three years ago, Calagione entered the competition with his first-ever batch of Punkin Ale, which was made (and is still made today) with real pumpkin meat, brown sugar and freshly crushed spices, and took home best in show for the homebrew, beating out the homemade pumpkin pies, cookies and cakes. In fact, the name of the beer was inspired by the name of the Punkin Chunkin competition and it continues to be the best-selling seasonal beer released by Dogfish Head annually. “Every fall, a week or so after Halloween, my wife Mariah and I will pop open a couple Punkin Ales and toast to the good karma that beer’s story has brought us,” said Calagione.

Alaskan Brewing Releases Cranberry Tart Ale

September 6, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

JUNEAU, Alaska – Alaskan Brewing Company welcomes autumn with their latest seasonal beer, Cranberry Tart. Taking inspiration from the season of harvest and foraging, Cranberry Tart features local Sitka spruce tips along with a medley of berry flavor, the perfect accompaniment to rich, savory fall meals.
“Alaskans spend this time of the year getting ready for the long nights of fall and winter,” said Andy Kline, Communications Manager at Alaskan Brewing. “Foraging, fishing the last salmon runs, harvesting from their gardens, picking wild blueberries, currants, and high bush cranberries – it’s a time of change and preparation. This beer is a celebration of the change of seasons that affects every person and animal that makes Alaska their home.”
This autumnal wheat beer features a hint of spruce notes, and is tart at the beginning, with sweet cranberry and citrus mellowing the overall taste. Beer drinkers will notice light pink highlights in the pour, and a subtle dryness in the body. Its light tartness provides a counterbalance to salty, savory holiday foods like turkey, ham, and king crab.
“When we start dreaming up a new beer, we try to think not only of the way we want the beer itself to taste, but all of the outside factors that affect people’s experience of enjoying the beer, too,” remarked Alaskan Head Brewer Rob Day. “We think about the time of year, the different meals that someone might eat with the beer, even the activities that they might be doing when drinking our beer. All of that influences which ingredients we use and what flavors we want to bring out. This beer is crisp and a little tart to cut through the rich foods we eat in fall and winter, especially around the holidays. This beer is perfect for that – it’s got fun flavor that can stand alone, but it’s also a great food-pairing beer.”
The label features the Alaskan Moose, the world’s largest moose variety, looking up through a patch of high-bush cranberries – a site familiar to many who explore Alaska’s wild country in the fall.
Cranberry Tart will be released at the beginning of September in the 22 states where Alaskan beer is distributed.

About:
Alaskan Brewing Co. was founded in Juneau, Alaska, in 1986 by Marcy and Geoff Larson. Then 28, they solicited help from about 80 investors to form the country’s 67th independent brewery at the time, the first since prohibition in Juneau. Though founded in 1986, its history reaches back to the Gold Rush Era, from which many recipes draw inspiration.

Indeed Brewing Company to Release Flavorwave IPA

September 5, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

MINNEAPOLIS — Flavorwave is the latest creation from Indeed Brewing Company’s Head Brewer, Josh Bischoff, who explains, “For the recipe of our first year-round IPA, we felt it was appropriate to explore current trends in hopping techniques both in the brew kettle as well as dry hopping. We chose a handful of our favorite classic and new American hops all leaning towards a juicy and fruity profile. The end results in layers (or waves) of hop flavor and aroma while leaving the ‘old school’ signature IPA bitterness largely behind.”

Brewed with Denali, Citra, Mosaic, Centennial, and El Dorado hop varietals, Flavorwave pours a bright golden hue with a subtle haze, a light body, and a crisp finish.
“Our first year-round IPA, Flavorwave, is the ultimate result of six years of research, experimentation, and customer feedback. To commit to making a year-round IPA we needed to convince ourselves that the experience while drinking the beer would not stale over time but actually compound for our customers much like Day Tripper has since we opened six years ago,” Says co-founder Tom Whisenand. “Flavorwave is not a trendy, hazy IPA but it is also not some boring version of the style. It embodies the level of professionalism we foster at Indeed, the decades of experience our brewing staff possess, the feedback we hear from our customers, and is proof that innovation does not need to whack you over the head.”
Flavorwave will be available year-round throughout all of Indeed’s markets including Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, and will be available on draft as well as in 6-pack, 12 oz. cans. Distribution will begin on Tuesday, September 11th, 2018. Indeed’s Sales Manager, Derek Johnson, looks forward to beginning distribution of this beer, saying, “There are a lot of ‘flavor of the moment’ IPA’s out in the market today, but Flavorwave is a different animal that highlights the modern flavor profile consumers expect from today’s IPAs, but has the look and feel of a beer that has been here for years.”
There will be several draft release parties including Turtle’s Bar & Grill on September 12th from 5-10 pm, Brunson’s Pub on September 12th from 3-7 pm, and Red Cow on 50th and France on September 13th from 4-10 pm.

Stats:
Malt: Pale and Barke
Hops: Denali, Citra, Mosaic, Centennial and El Dorado
Yeast: A15 Independence
6.2% ABV
73 IBU
Availability: Year-round in 6-packs of 12 oz cans and on draft

Description:
Can you feel that? A Flavorwave is coming. The rumblings of a fresh new IPA are now a full-blown quake, swelling with all the juiciest, headiest hops. Bright golden and lit with a gentle haze, Flavorwave IPA delivers with pineapple, citrus and stone fruit aromas and a rush of fruity, tropical hop flavor. It’s high time to pick up on these good vibrations.
