In London, the Horse Shoe Brewery caused a flood of beer that rushed through the streets of London on October 17th, 1814. This modern-for-the-time brewery featured the latest in tech including a wooden fermentation tank that was 22 feet high and held the equivalent of anywhere from 3,500 to 18,000 barrels of brown porter ale. While such a gigantic wooden container might seem like a disaster waiting to happen to us, the beer-makers apparently had no fear of a major mishap…though they probably should have.
That’s because the tanks were simply held together by iron rings and when one broke on that fateful day in 1814, it took mere hours for the entire contraption to breach with such a force that it destroyed other vats in the space and exploded through the back wall of the brewery. More than 320,000 gallons of beer then rushed through the streets, creating a wave of dark golden liquid that was a staggering 15 feet high, killing at least 8 people. All this ‘free’ beer led to hundreds of people scooping up the liquid in whatever containers they could. Some resorted to just drinking it, leading to reports of the death of a ninth victim some days later from alcoholic poisoning. Complete Story

The Bruery Announces Black Tuesday Release Details
Orange County, CA – Tuesdays come every week, Black Tuesday comes once a year. On October 30th at 10 a.m. PST, the Bruery will release limited amounts of Black Tuesday for the public to purchase. You can get more details and sign up to be the first to know by visiting www.TheBruery.com/BlackTuesday
Black Tuesday is the Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout that started them all. Affectionally known as the “The Beer from Hell,” due to the miserable 16-hour brew-day that founder Patrick Rue endured. This year’s vintage is yet again a monster of an imperial stout, laced with notes of vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate and singed oak. Bourbon, chocolate, and roasty notes on the nose roll together seamlessly to create a decadent, sophisticated fusion that’s fit to claim its own day of the week. Bruery Production Supervisor Stefan Weber notes that, “While we always stay true to the original Black Tuesday recipe, this year’s batch is noticeably darker and smoother thanks to a darker roasted malt bill and careful bourbon barrel aging, ranging anywhere from 13-16 months.” Those fortunate enough to get their hands on some of this limited-edition beer are in luck. The Bruery has made it easier than ever to pick up your bottles with an East Coast option at their newly opened D.C. Store. Pick-up is also available in Orange County, CA with shipping available throughout California. See the full release details and learn more about this rare beer at www.TheBruery.com/BlackTuesday

Introducing Jester King Terroir Project
Terroir Project is collaborative endeavor organized by our friends at Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles, California. It involves stretching the limits between wine and beer by co-fermenting 51% wort with 49% native grapes.
This co-mingling of “grains and grapes” represented a fun new approach for us. We typically take mature, barrel-aged beer and referment it with grapes. In this case, we blended wort and grapes together at the outset of fermentation and let them co-ferment. This simultaneous approach yielded some really interesting and exciting results that we’re very happy to share! Our wort consisted of pilsner malt and wheat, and our grapes were native-grown Syrah from northeast Texas (Sulphur Bluff). We racked the blend of wort and grapes into oak barrels for a slow fermentation that lasted 10 months. Our Head Brewer Averie Swanson writes, “The finished beer is really nice! Very wine-like and dusty. The oak presents as vanilla and integrates nicely into the beer. It has a lovely pink color!”
Terroir Project is 6.7% alcohol by volume. It will be released this FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19TH AT 4PM. It will be available by the glass and in bottles to go (750ml/$24) at our restaurant and tasting room. We only have about 1,000 bottles available with a bottle limit of two per customer per day. Aside from special events, Terroir Project will only be available at Jester King.
Special thanks to our friends at Firestone Walker for inviting us to be part of the inaugural Terroir Project! It’s really special for us to collaborate with a brewery that inspired us to make beer in the first place and has been a continual source of support and inspiration. Cheers!

Sly Fox Brewing Crowdfunding 3rd Brewpub Location
WYOMISSING, PA — Sly Fox Brewing Company, the popular regional brewery, and brewpub will open a third pub in the former Vanity Fair Outlet Mall and they are more than halfway toward the goal of creating a built-in audience of supporters.
Last month, Sly Fox made public an investment opportunity facilitated through a partnership with wefunder.com/slyfox
“The reception in the Wyomissing and Reading area has been overwhelming,” says Randy McKinley who will manage the location on opening. “Although most contributions have been local, we’ve received support from people in Chicago, Bismarck, El Paso and as far away as England and Ireland.”
Investments of all sizes will help the brewery reach their capital goal of $300,000 and to open on schedule. Investors receive a return and Sly Fox has created a community of ambassadors prior to the first beer being poured.
“We’re ahead of schedule and we’ve raised more than half of the capital,” adds Sly Fox Brewing Company Managing Partner, John Giannopoulos. “A successful campaign will yield hundreds of people investing in Sly Fox, which translates to hundreds of advocates for our new location and our brand.”
With two long-term, successful locations under in their portfolio, the strength of the Sly Fox brand, and a promising new location in Wyomissing, all the pieces are in place for a third successful brewpub.
ABOUT SLY FOX BREWING COMPANY

They have earned GABF medals virtually every year since, including a gold medal for Grisette Summer Ale in 2017, and are widely recognized as among the region’s best and most enduring craft breweries.
Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA is back … and with a whole new look thanks to Michael Hacker
It’s been a minute … but 75 Minute IPA is back! What began as a cask-conditioned ale at Dogfish Head’s Rehoboth brewpub back in 2011, quickly grew to become a cult-favorite amongst craft enthusiasts. From the Groucho glasses that adorned the label to it’s slightly dry and lingering bitterness, 75 Minute was (and is) beloved by many. Now in their latest iteration, this classic IPA is again brewed with maple syrup from Sam’s family farm in Massachusetts, while being continually hopped throughout the boil, and then dry-hopped with a slew of cascade hops. The result is a malty and earthy brew with citrusy-pine aromas, balanced by subtle maple notes.
Available in 12 oz. 6-packs for the first time, you’ll notice those Groucho glasses are looking a bit more comical thanks to the imagination of this year’s Off-Centered Art Series artist … Michael Hacker!
The Off-Centered Art Series is a lineup of four beers representing the creative expression that occurs at the intersection of beer and art, featuring a new illustrator each year. From Ali Selders to Marq Spusta, Tara McPherson, Jermaine Rogers and more, we’ve been collaborating with wildly inventive illustrators from around the world since 2008, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue the tradition with our friend Michael Hacker.
As a talented freelance illustrator, Hacker has found inspiration for his Art Series illustrations by learning the unique and compelling stories behind each of our beers, then bringing them to life visually in his own style. Since 75 Minute is a combination of two Dogfish innovations in continual hopping – 60 Minute IPA and 90 Minute IPA – Hacker wanted to artfully portray the brewing process with Sam as the original mad scientist of the early craft beer movement.

Elevation Beer Co. False Summit Returns for Fall
PONCHA SPRINGS, CO— Elevation Beer Company’s barrel-aged Belgian-style Quad returns this year in 750mL bombers for the season. This Quadrupel Ale aged in Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels has been one of the brewery’s seasonal, large-format offerings since 2013.
