January 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

PORTLAND, Maine — To celebrate the versatility of Maine’s organic grains, Allagash Brewing Company will release the brewery’s first-ever certified organic beer: Crosspath. A collaboration with GrandyOats—the premier manufacturer of organic granola, trail mixes, nuts, and cereals in Maine—Crosspath is a Belgian-style golden ale brewed with all-organic Maine-grown oats, buckwheat, base malt, hops, and GrandyOats Granola.A recipient of a 2020 Good Food Award, Crosspath is certified organic by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA).

“Allagash and GrandyOats are both Maine-based companies with similar missions: making quality products in a sustainable way that supports our community. We both owe much of our success to the bounty of our home state,” said Rob Tod, Founder, Allagash. “We were lucky to partner with GrandyOats, and such wonderful small family farms across Maine, to bring our brewery’s first-ever organic beer to life.”

Since 1979, GrandyOats has made small-batch organic granola, muesli, trail mix, roasted nuts, and hot cereals in rural Maine. Their mission is to source the most wholesome organic ingredients and partner with local producers to create the taste that nature intended.

“GrandyOats is excited to be celebrating Maine grains in a new way with Allagash and this collaboration beer, Crosspath,” said Aaron Anker, co-owner and Chief Granola Officer at GrandyOats. “Continuing to be a part of the Maine grain movement is important to us as well as supporting the mission of organic farmers here in Maine. When companies can join together to make a delicious product and do good at the same time, that’s exciting. This collaboration is a dream come true for our whole team.”

In addition to organic GrandyOats granola, Crosspath is brewed withOrganic Pilsner Malt from Blue Ox Malt House in Lisbon Falls, Maine; Organic Buckwheat and Oats from Aurora Mills & Farm in Linneus, Maine; and Organic Cascade Hops courtesy of Aroostook Hops in Westfield, Maine. Fieldwork Brewing Company Expands Sacramento Taproom

January 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

BERKELEY, Calif. — An ambassador for craft beer in Berkeley, California, Fieldwork Brewing Company announces today the expansion of its Midtown Sacramento taproom from 1,400 square feet to 4,900 square feet to accommodate the brewery’s rapid growth within the Sacramento Valley. The renovated taproom introduces an entirely new blueprint with indoor lounge areas and handcrafted wood tables providing a warm environment for beer lovers to enjoy Fieldwork’s highly aromatic and well-balanced beers. The outdoor patio space triples in size. Fieldwork will remain open throughout the redesign that’s set to be completed in early spring 2020.

In spring 2020, the Fieldwork Taproom — Sacramento debuts a new food menu rolling out at select Fieldwork locations, featuring artisanal pizzas as well as delicious appetizers, salads, sweets, brunch options, and a children’s menu. The official menu will be announced in the coming weeks.

Fieldwork expands its Sacramento location following the soon to open seventh Fieldwork locale at Town Center Corte Madera in Marin County. All seven Fieldwork taprooms are within a 200-mile radius of its West Berkeley brewery to ensure only the freshest beer is served to its customers while being conscious of its carbon footprint. In addition to Sacramento and Berkeley, Fieldwork has opened taprooms and European-style beer gardens in Napa (Oxbow Public Market), San Ramon (City Center Bishop Ranch), San Mateo, and Monterey.

Brewing well over 500 unique beers since opening its West Berkeley brewery in February 2015, Fieldwork brews with as much a sense of purpose as a sense of place as they honor Northern California’s magnificent outdoor landscapes with an array of idiosyncratic beers in constant rotation on the tasting menu. The esteemed brewing team focuses on innovation for its ever-evolving roster of signature IPAs, Double IPAs, lagers, pale ales, sours, stouts, etc. Based on seasonality and consistent quality, Fieldwork forges its own path brewing beers they simply love to drink.

“We’re grateful for the support of the Sacramento community over the past three years and have been actively looking for opportunities to expand our presence. When the space adjoining our Sacramento Taproom became available, we jumped on it. The expanded Fieldwork Taproom — Sacramento will offer our guests an enhanced indoor and outdoor experience,” says Barry Braden, co-founder and owner of Fieldwork Brewing Company.

The Fieldwork Taproom — Sacramento is located at 1805 – 1809 Capitol Ave, Sacramento, CA 95811.

Five Bay Area Brewers Guild Collaboration Beers Kick Off SF Beer Week

January 22, 2020 by Andrew Innes

SAN FRANCISCO – Five never-before-tasted Bay Area Brewers Guild collaboration beers will be tapped for the first time at the SF Beer Week Opening Gala on Friday, February 7. For SF Beer Week 2020, local craft breweries joined forces to design and brew five unique one-off beers. All five recipes included freshly kilned California-grown malts from Admiral Maltings, in Alameda, one of the nation’s few traditional artisan floor-malting facilities.

These Bay Area Brewers Guild collaboration brews are an annual hallmark of SF Beer Week, expressing the brewers’ collective state of mind each February, and honoring the cooperative and creative spirit of the craft beer community. The 2020 official SF Beer Week collaborations offer an exhibition of the bright, hoppy, drinkable beers brewers love to make.

Rice Stratasphere

Rice IPA

7% ABV

Rice Stratosphere delivers an aromatic explosion: tropical, dank and onward into the strata. One of the best new hops to hit the tanks lately is Strata, a monster of a hop with huge aromatics of citrus, indica, and guava. Citra and Denali hops add further layers of complexity, while a dry and clean body from extra pale Pilsner malt, Admiral Pils and puffed Jasmine rice give these hops room to shine. From the East Bay brewers of the Bay Area Brewers Guild.

Common Dreams

California Common

5.3% ABV

This modern SF lager is a nod to one of the original SF beers – updated with vibrant hop varieties developed in New Zealand and America. With an underpinning of flavors from two craft grain products, Admiral Maltings Feldblume Malt and Canadien Maltings Oat Malt, Common Dreams ties brewing heritage to the 21st Century delights of Motueka, Nelson Sauvin and Strata hops. From the San Francisco brewers of the Bay Area Brewers Guild,

Cloud Based

Oat Cream Pale Ale

5.8% ABV

Upload a fluffy tropical “Cloud Based Compression IPA” – delivering all those big hop flavors, dialed in. It’s a collaborative venture from – who else – Silicon Valley brewers.. Engineered from 2-Row malt, Admiral Maltings Gallagher’s Best malt and the pillowy contributions of Admiral Maltings Clipper Oats, Cloud Based is powered by Strata and Galaxy hops. From the Silicon Valley brewers of the Bay Area Brewers Guild.

Surf ‘n Burps

West Coast Double IPA

9.0% ABV

This is an exceptionally bright, true-to-form West Coast Double IPA, Bay Area-style.Surf ‘n Burps features exciting new hop varieties that include Cashmere and Sabro, along with the always popular Mosaic. Strong citrus notes of lemon and lime combine with peach, pineapple and coconut flavors and aromas from this blend of hops. A firm, but smooth bitterness follows before finishing bone dry, without the faintest kiss of alcohol from this 9.0% beast. This coastal classic is crafted on a base of Admiral Maltings Pilsner and American 2-Row malts. From the Coast Chapter of the Bay Area Brewers Guild,

North Bay Nexus

Pale Ale

6% ABV

This contemporary Pale Ale is new beer at the balancing point: crisp, balanced, citrus, tropical and subtly spicy. Brewed with Admiral Maltings Pilsner, Wheat, Oats, and Rye malts and utilizing old and new brewing techniques to deliver a crisp, balanced brew, North Bay Nexus is infused with brightness from Citra, Amarillo, Saphir and Mandarina Bavaria hops. Nuanced spice notes from the grain bill combined with citrus and tropical notes from the hop additions result in a refreshing beer suitable for any drinking occasion. From the North Bay brewers of the Bay Area Brewers Guild.

At the SF Beer Week Opening Gala, participants will have a chance to compare all five beers and choose a favorite. After the Opening Gala, the five collab beers will be available on draft or in cans at different locations during SF Beer Week as supplies last.

In addition to Admiral Maltings, these releases came together with help from Guild trade partners White Labs and Custom Label.

SF Beer Week is produced by the Bay Area Brewers Guild, a non-profit trade association whose mission is to promote local, independent craft beer and breweries throughout the greater Bay Area.

Monday Night Brewing to Release Lay Low Low-Calorie IPA

January 22, 2020 by Andrew Innes

ATLANTA — Hitting the market on January 24, Lay Low, a new year-round brand from Monday Night Brewing, clocks in at 3.2% ABV and only 90 calories — and here’s the kicker — actually tastes like an IPA.

We know what you’re thinking. “Oh great. Another low calorie craft beer. Super original, guys.” But hear us out on this one. As frequent craft beer drinkers ourselves, we wanted to create a low calorie, low ABV beer that actually tasted delicious. “It turns out that’s pretty hard to achieve,” says co-founder Jonathan Baker, “but using science, dedication, and the spirit of the mighty tiger, we think we’ve finally nailed it.”

Lay Low is dry hopped with Citra, Idaho 7 and Sultana, creating the oh-so-original citrusy notes of a classic IPA. The finish is crisp, clean and dry—leaving you wanting another sip. Go ahead and treat yourself, because it’s just 90 calories. In the words of Monday Night, this beer is designed for you to SLAY IPA ALL DAY.

“Typically, when you set out to make a low-calorie, low-alcohol craft beer, it turns out watery and bland—which makes sense, because water also happens to be low-calorie and low-alcohol,” says Brewmaster Peter Kiley. “It took us almost a full year to get the recipe for Lay Low right, but we finally struck the ideal balance of flavorful and sessionable.”

Lay Low will soon be available in bottle shops, grocery stores, bars and restaurants across Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. Also look for special Lay Low events in the coming weeks. “It’s one of those beers you want to keep stocked in the fridge,” Kiley adds. “It has plenty of hop aroma and flavor, but you won’t feel full after having a few.”

About Monday Night Brewing
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Monday Night Brewing was founded by Jonathan Baker, Joel Iverson and Jeff Heck. Monday Night Brewing exists to deepen relationships over some of the best beer in the country. Brewmaster Peter Kiley oversees brewing operations at both West Midtown and the Garage. Monday Night Brewing will open its third location in Birmingham, Alabama in early 2020. Its award-winning selection of beers can be found across Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. Dogfish Head Expands Distribution to North Dakota

January 21, 2020 by Andrew Innes

MILTON, Del. — Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is excited to announce its collection of off-centered ales is in route to the great state of North Dakota. The Delaware-based brewery is partnering with Bergseth Bros. Co., Inc., Jerome Distributing Inc., Magic City Beverage Co., McKinnon Company and Schwan Wholesale Co. to bring its full line-up of flavorful brews to residents throughout the Peace Garden State, increasing the company’s total market distribution to 46 states and Washington, D.C. Locals can look forDogfish Head beers on shelves and taps starting in late January.

Committed to delivering consistent, off-centered goodness to its fans,Dogfish Head has strategized and laid the groundwork for a forward-looking growth plan for North Dakota and beyond. “We’re ecstatic to share our lineup of well-differentiated beers withDogfish fans in North Dakota, and to begin creating long-lasting relationships with the state’s beer drinkers, retailers and distributors,” said Sam Calagione, founder ofDogfish Head. “We have our canning and bottling lines pumping out a boatload of beer, and we’ve got enough brewing capacity to ensure we can keep retailers well stocked with our family of off-centered ales for years to come.”

Dogfish Head fans in North Dakota can expect a gamut of the brewery’s iconic beers, like60 Minute IPA, a continually-hopped, East coast IPA;Slightly Mighty, a full-flavored,lo-cal* IPA; SeaQuench Ale, a session sour quencher; and 90 Minute IPA, a continually-hopped imperial IPA. They will also see a selection of bottles fromDogfish Head’s 2020-2021 Off-Centered Art Series, including Sun-Day-Feels,Punkin Ale and Campfire Amplifier. Limited quantities of specialty ales and rarities may be available too. For more information aboutDogfish Head Craft Brewery and its lineup of off-centered ales, visit www.dogfish.com.

Dogfish Head Brews & North Dakota Chews

For those that like having a bite with their brews,Dogfish Head suggests pairing these pints with some of North Dakota’s most iconic eats.

Grab a 90 Minute IPA to drink alongside Tater Tot Hotdish. The full-flavored malt backbone in the beer will complement the richness of this classic casserole, and the liquid’s assertive west coast hops will counterbalance the savory meat flavors of the meal.

SeaQuench Ale is the perfect pairing for some Lefse. The citrusy flavors of this sour ale provide a great balance to the dish’s light, potato-based flatbread, and the beer’s slightly-salty finish works well with both sweet and savory toppings.

Try 60 Minute IPA with Knoephla Soup. This off-centered beer’s citrusy hops provide a crisp finish, and its moderately-intense flavors will play well with the heartiness of the soup.

KC Bier Co. Attains Regional Brewer Status

January 20, 2020 by Andrew Innes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KC Bier Co., Kansas City’s largest independent and locally-owned brewery, announces that it has advanced from microbrewery status to regional brewer status, per definitions set by the Brewers Association (BA), the national trade group representing the craft beer industry in the United States.

The brewery attained this status with its production volume of 16,526 barrels of bier in 2019 — a 24 percent increase over 2018 — which also outpaces the 4 percent national average growth rate for independent craft brewers. According to the BA 2018 data, there were 7,346 total breweries operating in the U.S., of which 7,116 breweries, or approximately 97 percent, are defined as brewpubs and microbreweries, while only 230 are defined as regional breweries, which must produce at least 15,000 barrels annually. (2019 data is not yet available).

As a regional brewer, KC Bier Co. is now part of a class of breweries representing approximately the top 3 percent of all breweries in the U.S., one of only five regional breweries in Missouri, and two in Kansas City.

Steve Holle, KC Bier Co. founder and managing owner, said the brewery’s growth into regional status is a testament to its commitment to brewing high-quality and genuine German-style beers using time-honored traditional German brewing methods and only four ingredients: water, yeast, and all-imported German malt and hops.

“Our mission always has been to brew authentic-tasting German-style beer and deliver it with the same character, flavor and freshness as beer brewed and consumed in Germany,” Holle said. “We’re grateful for the consumers, retailers and our distributors who helped us achieve this milestone in only six years even though our distribution area included just one major city, Kansas and western Missouri.”

Other brewery highlights from 2019 include the brewery’s Helles Lager being named one of the 19 Best Beers of 2019 by Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine, a national trade publication; being named one of the Top 10 Small Businesses of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce; and the brewery’s KC Oktoberfest, which drew more than 11,000 attendees to Crown Center on Oct. 4-5, was named Favorite Beer Festival in KC in VisitKC’s 2019 Visitors’ Choice Awards.

About KC Bier Co.
Since 2014, KC Bier Co. has pursued a simple mission: to brew authentic-tasting German-style bier with the same character, flavor and freshness as the bier brewed and consumed in Germany using only imported malt, hops and yeast, and traditional German brewing methods. The largest independent and locally owned brewery in Kansas City, KC Bier Co. offers its bier in its Bierhalle and Biergarten at 310 W. 79th St., in the Waldo neighborhood of Kansas City, statewide in Kansas and in the western Missouri.
