Wiley Roots Expands Distribution Throughout the Front Range

June 24, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Wiley Roots Expands Distribution Throughout the Front Range

GREELEY, Colo. — After years of planning and the last three months of purchasing, renovating, and construction, Wiley Roots Brewing Company announced that the brewery has doubled their capacity and partnered with TwoSix Craft Distributors to expand their distribution footprint throughout the Front Range.

In 2019, Wiley Roots expanded into a new production facility adjacent to their taproom, increasing their production space from 800 square feet to over 5,000 square feet. Shortly after construction was complete, the brewery expanded its self-distribution efforts along the Denver-Metro and Colorado Springs regions by working with the delivery arm of WeldWerks Brewing Company. Since the expansion, the brewery has become one of the most talked about breweries in Colorado, after gaining national attention for pioneering frozen beer slushies in Colorado, releasing over 100 new beers in 2019, being named the Colorado Sun’s editor pick for “Colorado Brewery of the Year”, and receiving PorchDrinking’s recognition as one of the “Breweries Who Made the Biggest Moves”.

Since January 2020, Wiley Roots has slowly grown their distribution network, led by a portfolio of popular Sour Ales, East Coast IPAs, New England IPAs, Imperial Stouts, and innovative new styles like Sour IPAs and Milkshake Sour IPAs. This partnership with TwoSix Craft Distributors, will allow the brewery to dramatically grow all of their popular series, including Slush, which is a moderately tart and approachable fruited sour ale, which has seen increasing success since the launch of the series in 2018.

“In early 2018, our brewery underwent a transformative change, focusing less on how certain beers and styles would be perceived, to more about what we wanted to drink. Honestly, we went back to what got us into beer in the first place, which was having fun with innovative and experimental approaches to traditional styles, while at the same time, not being afraid to bend styles and step outside of traditional brewing norms. Our new approach has had a resoundingly positive reception with a majority of our long-term fans, while at the same time has gotten new fans excited about how different and unique beer can be.” said Kyle Carbaugh, Co-Founder and Head Brewer of Wiley Roots.

By making these investments and partnering with TwoSix Craft Distributors, Wiley Roots hopes to better meet demand through the brewery’s wholesale channels, but will also focus on the hyper-rotational nature of their taproom offerings. With this partnership, the brewery joins an innovative portfolio of brands that includes Station 26 Brewing Company (Denver, Colorado), New Image Brewing Company (Arvada, Colorado), and OhHi Beverages (Durango, Colorado). TwoSix is led by Justin Baccary, President and Founder of Station 26 Brewing Company, and Todd Luther, Former Colorado Sales Manager at craft beer distributor CR Goodman.

“I’ve been a fan of Wiley Roots for years and our entire TwoSix team is excited to help take Wiley to the next level. Front Range craft beer fans should be excited for what’s coming soon.” said Justin Baccary.

“TwoSix already has an incredible portfolio that includes our friends from New Image and Station 26. From our earliest conversations talking to both owners, it felt like such a good fit for our brand. TwoSix will be able to help us increase our distribution footprint in Colorado, allowing us to get our beer out to customers that have been asking us to distribute to their favorite stores.” said Miranda Carbaugh, Co-Founder and Director Sales and Operations at Wiley Roots.

Wiley Roots and TwoSix will launch their distribution partnership next month.

Wild Leap Launches Truck Chaser Lemon Ice Double IPA

June 24, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Wild Leap Truck Chaser Lemon Ice Double IPA

LAGRANGE, Ga. — Just in time for summer sipping, Wild Leap is releasing the latest addition to the popular Truck Chaser Series. Truck Chaser Lemon Ice combines the flavors of a frozen lemon treat with a big, juicy IPA. Clocking in at 8.1%, Truck Chaser Lemon Ice hits shelves today.

Truck Chaser Lemon Ice blends fresh lemon, vanilla bean and milk sugar to taste like a frozen lemon Italian ice. Though lighthearted in its appearance, the Truck Chaser Series was created as a salute to Wild Leap’s Chief Brewing Officer, Chris Elliott’s past career in the ice cream industry.

“Because the Truck Chaser Series is such a special series, I’m very particular with the design process,” explains Chief Brewing Officer, Chris Elliott. “After the crew has gathered around and taken a vote on the inspiration for the next release, the ingredient selection process is extremely strategic.”

Truck Chaser Lemon Ice is brewed using puréed lemon and real vanilla bean with added milk sugar to give the beer a creamy sweetness. With a fresh lemon aroma and a hint of vanilla bean, the lemon and citrus hops complement one another while the milk sugar provides the sweetness familiar to a lemonade push pop.

“Like all the Truck Chaser’s we’ve released, Truck Chaser Lemon Ice has been such a fun process,” says Wild Leap’s CMO, Rob Goldstein. “From the first team meeting where we discuss novelty ice cream treats we all remember buying, to the can packaging, there’s never a dull moment with a Truck Chaser release.”

Truck Chaser Lemon Ice hits the market today. It will be available for curbside purchase in six packs and crowlers at Wild Leap as well as for sale at your favorite retailers throughout Georgia this week!

Like many Wild Leap beers, Truck Chaser Lemon Ice will be available for a limited time.

Birds Fly South Imperial Milk Choc Stout ‘Friend Pack’ Release

June 24, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Birds Fly South Imperial Milk Choc Stout ‘Friend Pack’

Greenville, S.C. — Beer exploration led to creating something bold & new when the brewery had forced downtime.

During the turmoil of COVD-19 many have suffered and lost much. Simultaneously, both individuals and businesses alike have been able to find silver linings. One of those linings was the forced opportunity for Birds Fly South Ale Project in Greenville to have additional time to focus on creating a new type of beer release. No Soft Goodbyes, an Imperial Milk Chocolate Stout (available in 16oz cans, 4-packs) will be available for both online pre-sale on July 2nd, as well as purchase and pick-up on July 9th at the brewery’s taproom. Created to be shareable, the bold 4-pack includes 4 variants of the beer (German chocolate cake, mocha, peanut butter, and the base beer).

Like many breweries across the world, Birds found themselves with extra tank space and time. Although it was not a situation anyone wished for, it created some additional bandwidth for them to be creative/innovative. “We don’t typically produce a lot of stouts as a brewery,” noted owner and header brewer Shawn Johnson, “but we found ourselves with extra time to experiment and do some unique things, such as brew a big stout. I had also never made a beer with peanut butter before, so I wanted to give that a try, which inspired one of the stout variants.” The beer as a whole took a lengthy 27 hours to make between the mash and the brew process. It paid off by producing a big, bold, flavorful Imperial Milk Chocolate Stout.

No Soft Goodbyes Mixed 4-Pack, Better Known As “The Friend Pack”

“We also wanted to have something with variety that folks could grab and share with family and close friends during this time of quarantine, so we created some variants of the beer and dubbed it the “friend pack.” Since the beer’s ABV is 15.2%, it lends more to opening a can and tasting and sharing, which is also where the intentionality of the flavor variant comes in. The mixed 4-pack provides a great excuse for folks to taste, share, and discuss the assorted flavors from the same base beer. The brewery even partnered with local coffer roaster, Due South, for the coffee infused mocha variant included in the 4-pack.

More Background on the Beer

The name, No Soft Goodbyes, comes from a band that one of their brewers’, Brett Terrapin, performs in called WRVM. The beer’s name is a lyric straight from one of their songs on their recent LP they released. The brewery surprised Brett with the name by revealing the cans once they arrived with the lyrics featured on them. Much like WRVM’s music, this beer is bold and loud and meant to be shared.

These 16oz can 4-packs will be available at Birds Fly South Ale Project in Greenville, SC for pre-sale starting on July 2nd with an official release date of 7/9/20. Ten cases will be available for purchase of this chewy rich stout will. Individuals can pre-order and schedule curbside pick-up via the brewery’s online store. All the details for this event and release can be found on at website

First Canned Beer Sold on January 24, 1935

June 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

First Canned Beer Sold on January 24, 1935

The Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company was a brewery in Newark, New Jersey founded by Gottfried Krueger and John Laible. Krueger had been brewing beer since 1858. In 1934, the American Can Company approached the brewery with the idea of canning its beer and offered to install the equipment for free: If the beer flopped, Krueger Brewing Company wouldn’t have to pay.

So, on January 24, 1935, Krueger’s Cream Ale and Krueger’s Finest Beer were the first canned beer sold to the public in cans. Canned beer was an immediate success. The public loved it, giving it a 91 percent approval rating.

Citizen Cider Launches Citizen Seltzer

June 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Citizen Seltzer

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Citizen Cider, founded in 2010 on a hunch and some good old-fashioned hard work, has quickly become a leading player in the craft cider arena. Citizen Cider strives to look at the bigger picture and focuses on being involved in every aspect of their supply chain, sourcing all fruit directly from local farmers and pressing the juice to create a true craft cider. Never from concentrate.

Being the creators that we area, we decided to do a survey of the ever-popular Seltzer category to see what was happening in the industry. We discovered pretty quickly that there is no middle to the category, no seltzer brands offering high quality products made with real ingredients. We challenged our team to create a better product made from real fruit, with no added sugars that holds true to the ethos of Citizen Cider.

Starting this summer, we are happy to introduce, Citizen Seltzers. Three styles; Apple All Day, Ginger Love and Lemon Spritz hit shelves in Vermont already and rolling out to the rest of our states now, a mixed pack to follow in early July. These seltzers are made using only local ingredients here in Vermont. Coming in at 100 calories, 2g carbs and 1g sugar, these craft hard seltzers are a different spin on the current offerings, dry and refreshing.

About Citizen Cider
Citizen Cider, even in the early days, has always had a forward momentum bigger than the guys. They have guided the boat but the river guides them both. A big idea yes, but at the end of the day they remain present with a simple goal. Bring the cider to the people. Now available in 14 states. www.citizencider.com

DESTIHL Brewery Launching Craft Hard Seltzer Line

June 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

DESTIHL Brewery Launching Craft Hard Seltzer Line

Normal, IL –DESTIHL’s endless quest to ‘Support Flavor & Boycott Bland’, the brewery’s Craft Hard Seltzers feature flavors ‘made by nature, not in a lab’. This is accomplished by naturally fermenting cane sugar and using only real fruit, with no extracts, thus avoiding the mystery and ambiguity of the term ‘natural flavors’ used in many other hard seltzers. DESTIHL simply uses real fruit and tells you exactly what it is, and depending on the fruit, its seltzers may also have a hint of color too since real fruits are not clear.

To further differentiate DESTIHL’s seltzers in the market, they are packaged in uniquely designed 16oz cans and will be available in a variety 8-pack box featuring four different flavors, including Agave Lime (made with agave nectar and lime peel), Lemon Ginger (with ginger root and lemon peel), Piña Colada (featuring pineapple and coconut purees) and Raspberry Lime (made with lime peel and raspberry puree). These seltzers are naturally gluten-free, 5% ABV, low in calories and carbs (with just 130-140 calories per 16oz can, translating to 98-105 calories per typical 12oz serving, and only 1g-5g of carbs per can, depending on the real fruits used), and they each have zero grams of sugar remaining.

“While DESTIHL could have rushed to market with yet another seltzer made with processed ‘natural flavors’, or extracts, we chose to stay true to our brewery’s philosophy of only using real fruit in our beers in order to craft a better tasting, refreshing hard seltzer line that is consistent with our core values and traditional brewing methods,” said Co-Founder, CEO and Brewmaster, Matt Potts.“I’ve personally found that most hard seltzers often leave a lingering medicinal, metallic or chemical flavor, so our goal was to develop a line of authentic ‘craft’ hard seltzers that would taste as natural as the fruits we use in many of our other beers, especially in our innovative WiLD Sour Series, while also utilizing natural cane sugar fermentation instead of blending ethanol-grade alcohol and water”, continued Potts. “We have been using real fruit in our sours and other fruited beers for years, and while our R&D and piloting of seltzers on draft in our taproom delayed our launch of seltzers for nearly two years, those extra efforts were the right thing for us to do in the long run in order for our brewery to make the best-tasting seltzers on the market.”

Neil Reinhardt, DESTIHL’s Director of Sales, also noted, “DESTIHL’s Craft Hard Seltzer line allows our brewery to diversify its portfolio already consisting of great offerings like our DeadHead Hazy IPA Series, WiLD Sour Series, Dosvidanya and many other core offerings, while also enabling us to sell a genuine craft seltzer to an entirely new market segment that’s demanding lower calorie and lower carb products.” “We knew when we embarked on this mission nearly two years ago that we would need to be consistent with our company’s methods and processes while also having something to greatly differentiate from what was commonly in the market, and we are excited to deliver on that mission,” concluded Reinhardt.

DESTIHL Craft Hard Seltzers are expected to first hit some Illinois markets by late July, followed by shipments in August to the brewery’s entire distribution footprint of 37 states, plus D.C., with availability at retail varying by state and establishment.

For more product information, please visit destihl.com.

About DESTIHL
DESTIHL opened its gastrobrewpub (DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works) in Normal, Illinois, in November 2007, where the company focuses on both artisan food & beers. The company’s original production brewery in Bloomington, IL commenced operations in May 2013, but production was moved to its new 47,000sf Brewery & Beer Hall in Normal, IL, which opened to the public in May 2017. DESTIHL Brewery combines centuries-old, global brewing traditions and new American craft brewing ingenuity & artisanship to produce a wide array of award-winning beers for every palate. The result is a diverse offering of intensely flavorful beers that are anything but bland. The brewery currently distributes its beers internationally and in 37 states, plus D.C.

Car Dealership Teams Up With Mojave Brewing for ‘Peace, Love Designate a Driver’ Campaign

June 22, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Car Dealership Teams Up With Mojave Brewing for ‘Peace, Love Designate a Driver’ Campaign

HENDERSON, Nev.– Recently Findlay Volkswagen Henderson and Mojave Brewing Company announced a call-to-action partnership, designed to encourage safe driving habits by always appointing a designated driver, called ‘Peace, Love, Designate a Driver’. Together they kicked off the program with a First Friday Cruise Night from the dealership to the brewery, where they unveiled their ‘Peace, Love, Designate’ refrigerator, which holds non-alcoholic beverage. Items like iced teas, sodas, waters and cold-brew coffees will be given to the designated driver of a group at no charge, complements of Findlay VW.

Stemming from Findlay VW’s tag-line, ‘Peace, Love & V-Dub’, the “Peace, Love, Designate a Driver” initiative is designed to prevent drunk driving by rewarding responsible behavior and pre-planning. Findlay VW and Mojave Brewing Company decided to launch the campaign to emphasize the dangers of driving under the influence, wanting patrons to have a good time but be responsible.

Melisa Eichbauer, General Manager at Findlay Volkswagen says:
“We love our community and the amazing entrepreneurs Henderson is bringing to our area. We know many people are going to love and appreciate the new brewery [which officially opened its doors this past Januar]. By working together we hope to encourage our community to drink responsibly, use a designated driver and to never drive under the influence. We want the Henderson community and the Mojave Brewing Company, located in the Water Street District, to truly be the voice of the ‘Peace, Love, Designate’ campaign. Everyone on our roads plays an important role in alcohol management, by drinking responsibly, following a code of conduct and always having a dd.’’

CEO of Mojave Brewing Company, John Griffith says:
“We want our patrons to enjoy themselves and get home safely and remember their time with us for the right reason. The safety of our guests is our top priority at Mojave Brewing Company, and we encourage everyone to plan ahead. To us, the program seems like a no-brainer – the dd provides a huge service in ensuring a safe ride home for their friends and loved ones – it benefits everyone. “

Designated drivers will enjoy complementary non-alcoholic beverages throughout their evening at the brewery. Additionally, those who pledge to be designated can be photographed with the ‘Peace, Love, Designate’ fridge to be shared by Findlay VW and Mojave Brewing Company in a demonstration of appreciation. Together, Findlay VW and Mojave Brewing Company want to remind everyone to drive sober or designate a sober driver, call for a ride, take a cab or rideshare service.

To learn more about the “Peace, Love, Designate a Driver” program, email Marcy Colletti at mcolletti@findlayauto.com.
