Dogfish Head’s 120 Minute IPA Returns with New Bottle Carrier

July 27, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Dogfish Head’s 120 Minute IPA Returns with New Bottle Carrier

MILTON, Del. – The Holy Grail for Hopheads, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s iconic 120 Minute IPA is back with a bold, new bottle carrier. Originally released in 2003, 120 Minute IPA is an Imperial IPA continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, and dry-hopped with another whopping pallet of hops. Clocking in at 15-18% ABV, this unfiltered and abundantly hoppy brew boasts sweet, almost candy-like, hop aromas with flavors of hop resin and a lingering bitterness. Making its way shelves nationwide – where legal, this year’s 120 Minute IPA is available NOW in 4pk/12oz bottles.

“The release of 120 Minute IPA is always one of my favorites times of year. I’m beyond excited to grab a couple of bottles of this year’s batch to add to my cellar, as well as a bottle to crack open and share with my wife, Mariah,” said Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head founder and brewer. “To best experience 120 Minute IPA’s intricate flavor profile, I recommend serving it cool, not cold in a snifter or cognac glass. And if you can muster up the self-control to allow your 120 Minute IPA to age for a couple of years, the flavors and aromas will grow even more complex, with greater notes of marmalade and an enhanced sherry-like character.”

To better complement the audacious aromas and flavors found in 120 Minute IPA, Dogfish Head revamped the beer’s bottle carrier, making it bolder and more eye-catching with a jet-black background and metallic gold graphics. At the center of the design is something every beer-lover will quickly recognize, a hop cone. The ingredient responsible for bringing 120 Minute IPA to life, this hand-drawn hop cone exudes golden rays of light, assuring folks that their search is over – they found it, theHoly Grail for Hopheads.

Those scouring the shelves for some 120 Minute IPA will notice it is not the only one of Dogfish Head’s off-centered ales sporting a new look.Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA, a classic east coast IPA brewed with a slew of Northwest hops, is also boasting a brand-new design. The forest green graphics gracing the label ofDogfish Head’s classic 60 Minute IPA feature a clock-like contraption to represent Sam’s invention of the continual hopping process, the brewing mechanism that gives60 Minute IPA is abundantly hoppy, yet beautifully balanced flavor profile.

“At Dogfish Head, we brew ‘Off-Centered Ales for Off-Centered People.’ Our unique recipes and the liquids they produce are what set us apart from the other 7,000+ independent craft breweries in America,” said Sam. “With our new packaging designs for 120 Minute IPA and60 Minute IPA, we’re hoping to highlight the off-centeredness within each bottle or can and to celebrate the hand-crafted touch that goes into the creation of each our delicious libations.”

Wild Leap to Release Rocky Road Ice Cream Stout and Alpha Abstraction Double IPA Vol. 13

July 24, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Wild Leap to Release Rocky Road Ice Cream Stout and Alpha Abstraction Double IPA Vol. 13

LAGRANGE, Ga. — August is coming in hot as Wild Leap ends July strong with two new beer releases. Available this week, Rocky Road Ice Cream Stout (10.5%) is a thick, sweet and creamy milk stout with cocoa, vanilla bean, almond and marshmallow. On its heels comes the much anticipated announcement for the next release in the popular Alpha Abstraction Double IPA Series. Alpha Vol. 13 (8.0%) is a juicy, double dry-hopped IPA brewed with Sabro hops. Alpha Abstraction Vol. 13 will be available throughout Georgia next week. Rocky Road Ice Cream Stout hits shelves today.

According to Head Brewer, Chris Elliott, Wild Leap’s stouts have become bigger and more complex since they first started making them. “We’ve definitely found our niche with stouts – dessert and ice cream-inspired stouts really get us excited!” explains Elliott. “We’ve made small batch stouts in the past that have featured cocoa and almond and they were incredibly popular, so we felt it was natural to add marshmallow and make Rocky Road!”

Following the release of Rocky Road Ice Cream Stout, Wild Leap is introducing Alpha Abstraction Vol. 13. Brewed with Sabro hops, Vol. 13’s flavor profile has an unexpected twist. Unlike previous Alpha releases, Alpha Abstraction Vol. 13 boasts a bold coconut flavor with playfully subtle notes of tropical fruits, herbs and pine with a smooth mouthfeel.

“Exploring hop varieties is the reason we created the Alpha Abstraction Series. For every new Alpha, we experiment using a new and different style of hop,” explains Elliott. “From Vol 1. to Vol. 12, the Alpha Abstraction Series has featured 14 unique hop varieties. The introduction of Sabro hops in Vol. 13 will bring us to a total of 15 different hop varieties used throughout the Alpha series!”

Brewed for diets high in decadence and guilty pleasures, Rocky Road Ice Cream Stout hits shelves today. Announced yesterday, Alpha Abstraction Vol. 13 will be available for purchase next week. These limited releases will be available for purchase for a short time at the brewery and throughout Georgia starting today!

Flying Dog Releases Tropical Truth Imperial IPA

July 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Flying Dog Releases Tropical Truth Imperial IPA

FREDERICK, Md. – Flying Dog Brewery has announced the release of a new summer seasonal guaranteed to make you daydream of tans as golden as the drink in your hand, Tropical Truth. Hops and slight bitterness are perfectly balanced with mouth-watering tropical flavors in this new IPA with a summery spin.

After the success of Tropical Bitch (made from Flying Dog’s flagship IPA, Raging Bitch), Flying Dog’s team of innovators created a similar experiment with The Truth, the brewery’s hottest trending beer right now. Starting with everyone’s favorite imperial, mango and passionfruit were added to create Tropical Truth. With a big hop aroma and exotic tropical flavors, Tropical Truth will totally satisfy your senses.

“At Flying Dog, we like to have fun with our beers and continue evolving our recipes to surprise and delight our hardcore fans,” said James Maravetz, VP of Marketing at Flying Dog. “The Truth is a hugely popular beer for us year-round, so we gave it a tropical infusion perfect for the summertime.”

The balanced marriage of hops and fruit in Tropical Truth will convert any IPA drinker weary of fruit-filled brews. Adding fruit while maintaining the original beer’s ABV and hop profile was no small feat but our team of experts overcame the challenge with results that speak for themselves. In fact, some people say, those results speak The Truth. Tropical Truth carries an 8.7% ABV and can be found in stores starting this week.

Tropical Truth’s base beer, The Truth, was scientifically engineered to be a near-perfect IPA using knowledge from Flying Dog’s Single Hop Series. The Single Hop Series was a multi-year exploration into the flavor profile of single strains of hops, uncovering the subtleties of each strain and ultimately informing future recipes.

Tropical Truth can be found in stores starting this week and is available in 6 x 12oz. bottles.

TapRm Begins Selling Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery Beers in New York

July 23, 2020 by Andrew Innes

TapRm Begins Selling Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery Beers in New York

NEW YORK– TapRm is excited to announce the arrival of our newest exclusive brewery, Lickinghole Creek Brewing Company. Lead by the brewery’s inventive CEO and cofounder Lisa Pumphrey, LCCB creates exceptional beer with ingredients they mostly grow themselves on their 290 acre farm in Goochland County, Virginia.

Lickinghole Creek’s beers strike a rare balance: they’re creative, exciting, and envelope-pushing, but never gimmicky or for the sake of a trend. When asked where the inspiration for what Lickinghole Creek brews comes from, Pumphrey chuckles. “From the very beginning, it has everything to do with what I want to drink,” she reasons.

The brewery’s lineup never stops innovating, offering mainstay favorites alongside new, novel twists. This is due to a few factors: the creativity of Pumphrey and the brewing team, the modus operandi of taking classic styles and adding American flair, and the local ingredients Lickinghole Creek uses.

Many of those ingredients are grown right on the brewery’s farm. Lickinghole Creek grows its own hops (Cascade, Centennial, and Nugget, varieties that grow well in Virginia) and barley, wheat, and rye, along with the additions you might find in any of their beers, like watermelon, blackberries, sunflowers (for their saison), pumpkins, carrots, strawberries, and more. When the brewery needs to use different kinds of hops, grain, or other ingredients, they painstakingly source to be local, responsible, and sustainable. The end result gives beer the kind of terroir many associate with wine: these beer styles taste like the land of Virginia and all it has to offer.

That’s extra special when you consider the unique combination of, say, a Belgian style with those American ingredients. That equation — long-loved styles reinvented with American flavors and ingenuity — drives Lickinghole Creek beer. For example, Three Chopt Tripel Ale takes that classic Belgian style and, as Pumphrey puts it, “non-stop hops it,” using both New Zealand and American hops that add tropical notes. The Heir Apparent is an imperial stout with those style-defining flavors of roasty chocolate with caramel, but Lickinghole Creek adds Mexican peppers for some heat. Then there’s the Nuclear Nugget, an imperial IPA made with honey from the brewery’s own bees. Not only is this beer sustainable and local, but it’s a beautiful balance — Pumphrey describes the honey as giving this hop bomb a smooth swallow, adding a bit of sweet to the bitterness.

From the brewery’s crops and water to its philanthropic missions to its beer, there’s an incredible amount of thought, care, and planning behind Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery. As Pumphrey says, “Every beer has a story; there’s a full background to every beer we create.” Considering the farm-grown ingredients of each beer and the fact that each brew is fueling work to widen access to clean water, we think that story is pretty great.

To try all of Lickinghole Creek’s options in New York, head to website
