New Holland Brewing Company Releases Dragon’s Milk Solera

July 8, 2020 by Andrew Innes

New Holland Brewing Company Dragon’s Milk Solera

HOLLAND, Mich. — New Holland Brewing Company has announced the next member of the Dragon’s Milk family, Dragon’s Milk Solera, a 10% ABV foeder-aged ale that emphasizes the passage of time. By implementing a method where a flow of fresh beer influences the base solera, Dragon’s Milk Solera achieves a drinking experience that’s simultaneously consistent and ever-changing.

The solera aging method could best be described as fractional blending. Beginning with a master batch, New Holland ages Dragon’s Milk Solera in massive oak foeders and gradually pulls down the line until reaching the final foeder, blending a pool of beer from different generations. The beer’s average age will increase before hitting an eventual equilibrium, becoming more layered and complex. Each pull from the solera will contain a small bit of the original batch, allowing Dragon’s Milk fans to follow this beer as it evolves.

“We plan to label each batch with the pull number so drinkers can join us on the journey,” Brand Manager Dominic Berquist said. “The aging and blending brings our brewers and cellarman a new set of challenges, but they have more than risen to the occasion and we’re very excited by the results.”

In a glass, Dragon’s Milk Solera presents a gorgeous mahogany hue. An oaky and subtly sweet nose draws the drinker in for a sip where beguiling flavors of caramel, toffee and fig coalesce into a beer best savored amongst good company. Crack open a couple with friends and watch the Dragon’s Milk legend unfold.

“We’ve researched the history and lore behind the term ‘Dragon’s Milk’ and have actually found references to it as early as the mid-1500s in England,” Bergquist said. “Dragon’s Milk was used to describe a wide variety of potent ales and elixirs that were worthy of celebration, and Solera absolutely lives up to that expectation. It’s an exciting new chapter in the legend of Dragon’s Milk and we can’t wait for our fans to try this brew.”

Dragon’s Milk Solera will be available year round in four-pack 12 oz bottles and on draft in select states beginning in August. A limited amount of this beer will be available for online pre-order starting at 11am on July 18. The release coincides with another New Holland brand, Hazy River, a one hundred percent Citra-hopped New England Style IPA with a huge citrus aroma and taste.

Pick up will take place at the Knickerbocker and New Holland production facility on Saturday, August 1 from 11-6pm. For more information on Dragon’s Milk Solera and the pre-order, please visit www.dragonsmilk.com.

Oskar Blues Releases Death by Affogato Porter

July 7, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Oskar Blues Death by Affogato Porter

LONGMONT, Colo. — Oskar Blues Brewery announces the debut of Death By Affogato Porter, the second decadent entry in their series of extravagant Death By porters inspired by cult classic Death By Coconut Irish Porter. Death By Affogato is available nationwide in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans now.

Arriving on the heels of Death By King Cake White Porter, Death By Affogato was inspired by a dessert that some may call a little bit “extra.” Affogato is a classic Italian dessert of two simple ingredients brought together to create an exorbitant amount of flavor: vanilla gelato topped with a freshly pulled shot of espresso. With a name that translates directly to “drowning,” this indulgent post-meal treat was the perfect muse for Oskar Blues brewers seeking a formidable flavor profile for the upcoming Death By porter in the series.

“We like to think of ourselves as proudly unpretentious foodies here at Oskar Blues,” said Head Brewer Juice Drapeau. “In a beer like Death By Affogato, we’ve taken inspiration directly from the culinary world. ‘Affogato’ is a fancy name, but forget about that. All you need to know is that ice cream and coffee are a legendary pair.”

Death By Affogato begins with a rich, dark porter brewed with chocolate malt and malted oats to complement roasty coffee and creamy vanilla. Using Spinbot 5000 technology, this malty porter is infused with cacao nibs, hand-split Ugandan and Madagascar vanilla beans and coffee from Colorado’s own Traction Coffee Roasters. The result is a hedonistic beer drowning in flavors of milk and dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla and caramel. Surprising notes of caramelized sugar, toasted marshmallows and breakfast cereal round out a porter appropriate for an aperitivo or a late-night snack.

Death By Affogato Porter is the second offering in the Death By Porter Series. Find it on shelves nationwide in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans. Superfans of the eponymous Death By Coconut can expect the return of the cult classic this fall.

About Oskar Blues Brewery
Founded by Dale Katechis in 1997 in Lyons, Colorado, Oskar Blues Brewery launched the craft-beer-in-a-can apocalypse with their hand-canned flagship brew, Dale’s Pale Ale. Today, Oskar Blues operates breweries in Colorado, North Carolina and Texas featuring Dale’s Pale Ale as the nation’s #3 top-selling craft can six-pack at U.S. supermarkets. Oskar Blues is available nationwide in the US and in over 20 countries. Oskar Blues Brewery is a proud member of CANarchy, a disruptive collective of like-minded craft brewers dedicated to bringing high-quality, innovative flavors to drinkers in the name of independent craft beer.

Hi-Wire Brewing Announces July Beer Releases

July 7, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Hi-Wire Brewing Announces July Beer Releases

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The summer season is about to get a big dose of new sunshine sippers out of Hi-Wire Brewing with a berry-packed sour smoothie, a decocted golden lager, an innovative IPA, a hopped-up imperial tropical ale, and a crushable fruited sour all dropping in the summer of 2020.

The fourth edition in Hi-Wire’s Sour Smoothie Series received a ridiculous amount of raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry to create an over-the-top fruited sour beer with a balanced sourness and refreshing finish. Very Berry Sour Smoothie (5.5%) will be released July 10 and will see limited distribution throughout Hi-Wire’s footprint, but 4-packs of 16-ounce cans will be available across all four Hi-Wire Brewing Taprooms – starting in Asheville followed by Durham and Knoxville soon after – as well as online at shop.hiwirebrewing.com.

In a collaborative effort with Asheville neighbor Zillicoah Beer Company, Hi-Wire Brewing conceived a decocted lager to unlock the full spectrum of malt flavors resulting in a crisp, clean, “ocean-worthy glugger” to assist in navigating these wild times. Releasing July 7, Lifeboat Golden Lager (5.5%) pairs well with excellent sunshine and friendship from a distance, and 4-packs of 16-ounce cans will be distributed throughout Hi-Wire Brewing’s market in addition to being available at Hi-Wire taprooms and in Hi-Wire’s online beer shop.

Utilizing pioneering technology from Yakima Chief Hops, Hi-Wire combined Cascade Cryo Hops pellets with traditional Citra hops to brew the innovative Cryo Double IPA (9%) releasing on July 17. Cryo Hops are “the concentrated lupulin of whole-leaf hops” and are “designed to provide intense hop flavor and aroma… without introducing astringent flavors or vegetative material,” according to Yakima Chief Hops. The resulting IPA embraces dank and citrusy hop notes with the firm bitterness one needs to back up distinctive floral, citrus, and grapefruit flavors. This surprisingly clean and endlessly satisfying new brew will see full distribution throughout Hi-Wire’s footprint in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans, and it will be available in all Hi-Wire taprooms and at shop.hiwirebrewing.com.

Heavy-handed portions of mango and pineapple were added to Tropi-WOW! Imperial Tropical Golden Ale during secondary fermentation to create a super-duper tropical beer bursting with flavors from fresh fruit and super bright Citra hops. At 11.3%, this dank sunshine sipper is primed for hammock hangs. Shipping on July 17 in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans, Tropi-WOW! Imperial Tropical Golden Ale will receive full distribution and hit Hi-Wire’s taprooms and online shop as well.

To round out this collection of summer suds, Blackberry Limeade Sour Session Ale (4.2%) marks the second addition to Hi-Wire Brewing’s Sour Session Series. This incredibly crushable and refreshing fruited sour beer was brewed with some classic summer ingredients to develop deep jammy flavors from blackberries balanced with just the right amount of citrus zip from lime. Hitting shelves in early August, this easy-drinker will also see full distribution across Hi-Wire’s footprint, Hi-Wire Brewing taprooms, and the Hi-Wire online beer shop.

About Hi-Wire Brewing
Hi-Wire Brewing is known for producing approachable and balanced lagers and ales, most notably Hi-Pitch Mosaic IPA, Lo-Pitch Juicy IPA, and Bed of Nails Brown, and it boasts an award-winning sour and wild ale program. Founded in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2013, Hi-Wire now has two locations in Asheville – the Big Top Production Facility, Taproom & Event Space and the South Slope Specialty Brewery & Taproom – along with a third taproom in Durham, North Carolina, and its first out-of-state taproom in Knoxville, Tennessee. Hi-Wire Brewing’s Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup award-winning beers can be found on draft and in cans across North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, and Virginia. Maryland Breweries “Brew for BAM”

July 6, 2020 by Dow Scoggins

Brew for BAMANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Breweries throughout Maryland are uniting to “Brew for BAM (Brewers Association of Maryland).” Each participating brewery is brewing a beer showcasing their brand’s unique approach to crafting recipes. Originally an idea from Mike Clements of Frederick’s Idiom Brewing Company, Brew for BAM has grown into an industry-wide effort that will raise funds to support the work of the state’s non-profit craft beer trade association.

“Following COVID-19, we saw that BAM was going lose a substantial amount of annual revenue from canceled consumer events,” said Clements. “We thought we’d help to soften the blow by brewing a wonderful beer and contributing a portion of the proceeds to the work being done by the Brewers Association of Maryland. A lot of people know about BAM’s events but we’d like beer drinkers to know how much the association does behind the scenes.”

There are currently eight Maryland breweries scheduled to release Brew for BAM beers. Expected on tap on Saturday, July 4, 2020, the team at Mully’s is excited to release the first Brew for BAM beer, an amber ale, and to get momentum behind this fundraiser.

“We wanted to participate in the Brew for BAM fundraiser because we directly benefit from the association’s dedication to promoting our industry and the work it does to advocate for our economic success,” says Cindy Mullikin, co-owner at Mully’s Brewery and former president of BAM.

Breweries currently participating in the Brew for BAM collaborative fundraiser include 1812 Brewery (Cumberland), Full Tilt Brewing (Baltimore), Hysteria Brewing Company (Columbia), Idiom Brewing Company (Frederick), Mully’s Brewery (Prince Frederick), Olde Mother Brewing Co. (Frederick), True Respite Brewing Company (Derwood), and Waredaca Brewing Company (Gaithersburg) and Clements expects additional breweries to sign on. Each brewery’s recipe and release date will be determined by that participating brewery.

President of the Brewers Association of Maryland and General Manager at Milkhouse Brewery, Sarah Healey, said, “On behalf of BAM and our board, we are humbled that our members continue to find ways to contribute to their association, even in the most trying times.”

For more information about the Brew for BAM collection of beers, please visit brewforbam.beer. For more information about the Brewers Association of Maryland, and for a full list of the association’s members, please visit marylandbeer.org. A special “thank you” is owed to Chris Sands, the Uncapped Podcast, for his work building and maintaining the Brew for BAM website.

ABOUT THE BREWERS ASSOCIATION OF MARYLAND

VIVE Hard Seltzer Refreshes Packaging

July 6, 2020 by Andrew Innes

VIVE Hard Seltzer Refreshes PackagingCOVINGTON, Ky. – VIVE Hard Seltzer, a widely-recognized regional velocity power player, introduces a carton refresh that accompanies the brand’s vast growth in the hard seltzer category. Offering such varieties as Lime, Dragon Fruit, Mango and Grapefruit, the updated packaging brings vibrant imagery to the all-natural adult refreshment. The redesign also comes at a time when VIVE has proven to be a major force within the category. Consumers can find the Original Variety Pack on shelf at Kroger, Meijer, and Walmart stores throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio at an SRP of $13.99 – $14.99.

Year to date, IRI data ending June 14th identified VIVE as a hard seltzer generating the second highest velocity among regional competitive counterparts in the Midwest. In competing with larger counterparts, VIVE still proved to be a hard seltzer generating the eleventh highest velocity since June to date, with 213 percent growth since the same time last year. This growth, paired with unprecedented growth in the hard seltzer category, overall, prompted the VIVE packaging refresh currently on retailer shelves.

“VIVE is an exciting brand that has the capacity to lead the way in the hard seltzer category,” shares Jake Rouse, Co-Founder and CEO at Braxton Brewing Company. “It’s made with all-natural flavors that make each sip as pure in flavor as possible. Now, introducing the packaging refresh, we’re excited to shed an even brighter light on this brand.”

Armed with the knowledge of VIVE’s consistent growth, the brand has continued to compete at the national level, with hard seltzer brands with deeper pockets, broader resources and more consumer recognition. In anticipating continued growth in the ready-to-drink category, the redesign also solidifies VIVE’s leadership and prepares it for an unprecedented summer.

About VIVE Hard Seltzer
VIVE Hard Seltzer began as a simple idea. An idea to create a beer-alternative that would inspire, motivate and stir a shift in the way we move. Something light, crisp, refreshing and not too heavy. After more than a year of experimentation, VIVE was born. Cincinnati’s first locally crafted hard seltzer comes in 8 refreshing flavors, is easy to drink, gluten free and all natural with only 100 calories and two grams of carbs, it’s the perfect drink to help you live it up. In 2020, VIVE was named as a key regional velocity power player by Nielsen, having dominated hard seltzer sales in Midwest, as compared to its competitive counterparts.

July 6, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. Kash Crop Orange Mango Ale

TURLOCK, Calif. — Dust Bowl Brewing Co. announces the release of Kash Crop Orange Mango Ale, the latest addition to the Northern California brewery’s year-round portfolio. The roll-out is just in time for consumers looking for a thirst-quenching summertime beer.

“This is a crisp refresher that comes in perfect time for the warmer weather,” comments Don Oliver, Brewmaster. “Beer fans can expect a light bodied beer with huge fruit aroma and an orange/mango finish that is slightly sweet.”

Kash Crop is easy-drinking at 4.5% ABV, with low bitterness at only 10 IBUs. The new beer is available in 12oz./6 pack cans, and 5.2 gallon and 15.5 gallon kegs. It is sold through Dust Bowl’s growing network of wholesalers servicing California and Nevada, and at Dust Bowl Brewing Co. taprooms located in Turlock and Monterey, California.

In signature Dust Bowl fashion, the Kash Crop label tells a unique story starting with the name. “Kash” once represented an ancient form of payment in beer, while the landscape is a nod to the brewery’s Central Valley location amidst orchards and crops as far as the eye can see.

Kash Crop joins an extensive line up of year-round beers for Dust Bowl Brewing Co., including the well-known flagship IPA, Hops of Wrath, Therapist Imperial IPA, Taco Truck Lager, Taco Truck Amber, Hobo Pilsner, Dirty ‘30s Pale Ale and another newcomer, Tomorrow’s Clear West Coast IPA.

Stone Brewing Changes Nothing About Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA

July 6, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Stone Brewing Changes Nothing About Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA

ESCONDIDO, CA – Today Stone Brewing announces what admittedly adds up to not a whole helluva lot. Amidst endless collaborations and steadfast innovation, Stone shares not all that much news about the ever-popular 2017 release, Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA. The tropical IPA is available year-round (still), packed with whole tangerine and pineapple (still), and kinda lightly murky (still). It does, however, feature flashy new packaging and an updated name, prompting some somewhat-needed clarifications about this popular beer.

For those fans set a-kilter or confused by a certain four-letter word now seen on packaging, it is intended simply to make an honest point (as four-letter words often do). This beer has always been H-A-Z-Y, thanks in part to the whole fruit used in each batch. With its new name, “Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA” the company offers a better understanding of the beer inside. No actual changes have been made to accomplish this change, other than the addition of the word.

“We’ve been working really hard on Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA making it exactly the same as it was before,” explained Jeremy Moynier, Stone Brewing Senior Manager of Brewing & Innovation. “Our brewers have been painstakingly following the recipe with precision. Taste panel after taste panel, we continue our quest to change absolutely nothing about it. We’re confident that this not-new iteration is everything our fans have been looking for, mostly because they tell us they love it and look for it.”

To wit, Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA is one of Stone’s most highly demanded and widely available beers, with the third highest number of retail placements just behind Stone IPA and Stone Delicious IPA. It also ranked third highest in volume of all Stone’s core beers.

Rather than write up a new description for the beer, we’ll instead unabashedly quote ourselves from a prior press release:

Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA pours light golden in color with an aroma that’s bright, juicy and tropical. Stone’s brewers used whole tangerine puree to capture the essence of the bright flavors of the fruit with the addition of whole pineapple for a subtle, yet lingering tropical backnote. Neither the hops nor the fruit dominate, yet together they create several complex fruit layers, which can only be achieved by brewing with the entire fruit. Eight different hops give this beer its marked dankness overtones and refreshing bitterness.

Sounds as good as ever, doesn’t it?

QUICK FACTS
New Name: Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA
Stats: 6.7% ABV, 75 IBUs
Packaging: Now available nationwide in flashy new packaging including 22oz bottles, 12oz six-pack cans and draft
Web: website
Find Beer: website

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Light golden with slight haze.
Aroma: Bright, fresh fruit aromas of pineapple, tangerine, and tangelo combine with citrus and tropical aromas from the hops.
Taste: An explosion of fresh fruit and bright hops join together to create several complex fruit layers. Taste is both fruity and hoppy leading to a long finish.
Palate: Crisp, clean, and refreshingly bitter. There is a pithy quality similar to biting into fresh fruit along with the back-end bitterness one would expect from a Stone Brewing IPA.
Overall: Working with fruit can be amazing and using good quality fruit is key to achieving that wonderful freshness and avoiding artificial flavorings. The high-end pureed fruit used here blends exceptionally well with the aroma and flavors from the hops creating a multi-layered IPA that also has the dankness and bitterness that superbly rounds out this beer.

Migration Brewing Releases Infinite Riff IPA in Cans

July 6, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Migration Brewing Infinite Riff IPA in Cans

PORTLAND, Ore. – Migration Brewing is releasing their award-winning pub favorite, Infinite Riff, for the first time in cans on Friday July 3rd. Six packs will not only be available from their two Portland pubs, but will also be available in local grocery and convenience stores mid-July.

This classic IPA highlights Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo hops, with notes of marmalade, grapefruit rind and passionfruit. With a firm bitterness and crisp finish, Infinite Riff is an easy-drinking summer IPA. Infinite Riff clocks in at 6.2% ABV with 55 IBUs.

In the last year, Infinite Riff has brought home awards from the Oregon Beer Awards, Best of Craft Beer Awards, and U.S. Open Beer Championship.

“We are excited for this beer to be in cans for the first time,” says co-owner Eric Banzer-Lausberg. “It had previously only been available on draft and will now be distributed through Columbia Distribution for the summer.”

Migration Brewing started in 2010 when four friends came together over a passion for craft beer and a dream of opening a brewpub. With a lot of bootstrapping, and a little luck, they have since opened three pub locations within Portland. As an award-winning brewery, the Migration team takes great pride in producing world-class beers that embrace innovation while respecting classic styles.
