San Juan Seltzer Meets Fundraising Goal for Restaurant Workers Coronavirus Fund

August 18, 2020 by Andrew Innes

San Juan Seltzer Meets Fundraising Goal for Restaurant Workers Coronavirus Fund

SEATTLE– The Pacific Northwest’s San Juan Seltzer is pleased to announce they exceeded their goal of raising $20,000 for the Restaurant Workers Coronavirus Fund. This could not have happened without the support of their local retail partners such as Safeway/Albertsons, Fred Meyer, QFC, Whole Foods, and more. The Company also turns industry heads as it establishes itself as one of the highest velocity spiked seltzer brands in the US.

With restaurants being forced to close during mandated shutdowns in early March, San Juan Seltzer still saw a +400% rise in their total Pacific Northwest off-premise spiked seltzer sales. During this same period, San Juan Seltzer’s position as “a brand to watch” jumped as its total US sales velocities in multi-unit grocery stores (source: Spins 4-week data ending June 14, 2020) leaped to the #4 Hard Seltzer Category position overall and #1 craft-style brand, exceeding all other spiked seltzer brands except for White Claw, Truly and Bud Light. Contributing to its acceleration in sales and sales velocities, market leading retailers Safeway, Fred Meyer, QFC, Whole Foods and others authorized their newest PNW flavors, Peach Rosé and Dry Rosé. Driven by rapid growth, San Juan Seltzer added 4 full-time people plus 6 seasonal production workers and merchandisers to their already small, 13-person staff; purchased new production and packaging equipment allowing production capacity to triple; and added nearly 4,000 SQFT of new warehouse space needed to house finished products to meet customer demand..

Earlier this year, San Juan Seltzer announced plans to create the PNW Clean Fund, designed to support PNW resources. Because of the COVID-19 impact on PNW food service workers, the Company elected to support a very specific type of resource – human resources – PNW food service workers – with a goal of raising $20,000. The program ran 13 weeks ending on June 30, 2020.

“With the rapid growth of our off premise sales, we wanted to do our part and share the success we were fortunate to have during a time that jeopardized the livelihood of our friends in the industry,” says CEO, Ron Lloyd. “Our restaurant and bar community was there for us when we started, and we wanted to do everything we could to be there for them during this difficult period. We could not be more appreciative of the support we received from our retail partners – small and large.”

Knowing the importance of local brands supporting and helping people, San Juan Seltzer unveiled the Sip and Support program, and is glad that their PNW community rose to the challenge with over 37 different retail chains and independents participating to help them reach their $20K goal. Proceeds came from case sales of San Juan Seltzer’s participating products: 12ct PNW Variety Pack and 12ct PNW Rosé Variety Pack. $1.00 was raised per qualifying case sold to any/all Pacific Northwest retailers such as Safeway, QFC, Fred Meyer, Metropolitan Market, Bartell Drug, Bevmo and more, without any limits on the number of cases each store could take. The final count ended with 1,130 participating/qualifying deliveries and $20,749 raised.

The PNW Clean Fund will donate 100% of funds directly to the Restaurant Workers Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Crisis Relief Fund. The fund provides direct relief to individual restaurant workers, non-profit organizations serving restaurant workers, and zero-interest loans for restaurants struggling to stay open.

For more information on the Company or the Sip & Support Program, please feel free to reach out. The PNW Clean fund, Sip & Support program results, and a list of participating retailers, are viewable on San Juan Seltzer’s site.

Mango Road will be available locally at the Cascade Brewing Barrel House at 939 SE Belmont St., The Lodge at Cascade Brewing at 7424 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy, and online at CascadeBrewing.shop for local pickup only. It will also be made available through the brewery’s distribution network.

The brewery also brews a broad range of non-sour styles with the same level of quality and creativity that has become synonymous with the Cascade Brewing brand.

Bootstrap Brewing Releases Hard Seltzer and Craft Beer Mixed Pack

August 17, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Bootstrap Brewing Releases Hard Seltzer and Craft Beer Mixed Pack

LONGMONT, Colo.— Craft beer? Or hard seltzer? With Bootstrap Brewing’s revolutionary new Party Pack, there’s no need to choose — there’s a little something for everyone. Earlier this year, as the effects of COVID-19 began causing uncertainty in the craft beer industry, the Longmont-based brewery quietly released the 12-can party pack featuring five award-winning craft beers and the widely popular Sparkalicious hard seltzer.

The Party Pack features two 12-ounce cans of each of the following six Bootstrap offerings, all of which are gluten reduced brews:

Insane Rush IPA — A perfect balance of Cascade and Simcoe hops give this India Pale Ale a unique blend of citrus and pine aromas and flavors. Winner of a silver medal at the 2014 U.S. Beer Open Championship, the 2015 Denver International Beer Competition, and the 2018 and 2019 USA Beer Ratings. 7.6% ABV | 51 IBUs

Lush Puppy Juicy IPA — Made with massive amounts of Galaxy, Mosaic, and Citra hops, the Lush Puppy is a bold Juicy IPA packed with tropical and citrusy notes. 6.3% ABV | 40 IBUs

Chillax Pineapple Gold — An easy-drinking Golden Ale brewed with a refreshing blend of Noble hops and Pilsner Malt, and infused with real pineapple, giving this beer a tangy, sweet and subtle taste of the tropics. Winner of a bronze medal at the 2018 and 2019 Beer Ratings, and the 2016 North American Beer Awards. 4.5% ABV | 10 IBUs

Stick’s Pale Ale — A nice, citrusy American Pale Ale dry hopped with Mosaic hops for a smooth, delicious finish. Gluten reduced. Winner of a gold medal at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival for American Pale, gold and silver in the 2016 & 2017 U.S. Open Beer Competition among others. 5.5% ABV | 36 IBUs

Wreak Havoc Imperial Red Ale — A delicious, smooth, massively hopped Imperial Red Ale featuring seven hop additions, and a dash of Crystal Malt to give this beer its beautiful reddish hue. Winner of a bronze and silver medal at 2016 Great American Beer Festival, a bronze medal at the 2016 and 2018 World Beer Cup, a bronze and silver medal at 2015 U.S. Open Beer Championship, and a gold medal at the 2019 North American Beer Awards. 8.5% ABV | 88 IBUs

Sparkalicious Hard Seltzer — New to Bootstrap’s line-up, the Sparkalicious Hard Seltzer line up is made with real fruit and inspired by classic cocktail recipes — a rotating selection of their three seltzer flavors are included in every party pack.

“We wanted to do something very different from what other breweries were doing,” said Leslie Kaczeus, co-owner of Bootstrap Brewing alongside husband Steve. “We created the Party Pack so that customers, new and longtime Bootstrap drinkers, would have the chance to try more of our beer styles. The Sparkalicious launch happened to coincide with the Party Park launch, so we threw two of those in as well!”

Hard Seltzers are having a moment in the craft beer industry. Hard seltzers are light, refreshing, low calorie, low in ABV, gluten-free, and are expected to become a $2.5 billion beverage category by 2021. They’re also a go-to drink for the Kaczeus’ who currently offer three Sparkalicious flavors (4.5% ABV | 0 IBUs), all made with real fruit and inspired by classic cocktails.

The Sparkalicious Greyhound, the Sunrise, and the Cosmo are also sold in a special Sparkalicious mixed Party Pack. Unlike many hard seltzers on the market that use oils, resins, or extracts derived from natural sources to impart flavor to the beverage, Bootstrap’s hard seltzers are all made with real fruit, creating a more concentrated flavor and vibrant coloring.

“When we decided to make Sparkalicious, we wanted a hard seltzer we would enjoy drinking ourselves, and we wanted to use real fruit,” said Kaczeus. “We then decided to create flavors based on cocktails we like to drink.”

Both the Party Pack and Sparkalicious Party Pack are sold at the brewery’s 30-bbl brewery in Longmont, CO, and at select retail stores along the Colorado Front Range and I-70 Corridor that carry quality craft beer.

About Bootstrap Brewing Company

Tolago Hard Seltzer Launches in California

August 14, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Tolago Hard Seltzer Launches in California

LOS ANGELES– It is not news that the hard seltzer category is on fire, nor that many major beverage brands are adding their logo to a version of the same liquid that made the category explode two years ago. Conversely, Tolago is “building from within our communities’ culture,” explains Tolago Hard Seltzer CEO, Nicholas Greeninger. “We took a page out of the hard kombucha playbook when creating the product by using the highest quality, real ingredients,” he says. “To us, every 50-year-old corporate beverage logo on a hard seltzer can is lazy and a bit opportunistic. Until now, not one hard seltzer brand had listened to consumers or pushed the category in the right direction.”

Tolago is based on all-natural ingredients, including ethically sourced fresh fruit juices, purées, and natural botanicals from Southern California, as well as fair-trade certified 100% organic agave nectar from Mexico. Clean of chemical taste, gluten-free, and 5% ABV, the flavors include Ginger Pear, Guava Mango, Cherry Rose, and Agave Lime. Available only in fully-recyclable printed standard cans from Ball, the seltzers are premium priced and come in 6-, 12-, and 24-can cartons, with SRPs of $12.99, $24.99, and $49.99 respectively, or $1.99 per single.

The talent collective behind the brand includes fine artist and Creative Director Matt McCormick, who created the logo and package design. Brand Director Stevie Dreher is known for discovering and nurturing some of America’s top electronic musicians. Others within the 28-member owners’ collective include photographer Sandy Kim; skateboarder Louie Lopez; singer Omar Apollo; surfer Mitch Coleborn; and 2x Winter Olympian snowboarder ElenaHight. Each member of the group is using his or her talent, outlook, and network to facilitate unique collaborations and opportunities that will be executed across the three tiers.

Greeninger, the former branding and marketing power behind Saint Archer Brewing Company, which was acquired by MillerCoors, is the bridge from lifestyle to beverage. Other beverage sales and distribution experts include Doug Gudmundson (36 years in beer, most recently with Karl Strauss Brewing Company); Jason Schwenck (13 years with Red Bull America, and 12 years building numerous successful startup beverage companies); and Matthew Mitchell (25 years in wine & spirits, most recently with Jackson Family Wine Company). Tolago’s board of directors includes Circe Wallace (EVP, Wasserman), Henny Yegezu (Founder/CEO, EQT Recordings), and Robert Reynolds (Managing Partner, Seven Seas VC), all bringing their networks and specialized knowledge to the Tolago business.

In California, Tolago Hard Seltzer will be distributed by Young’s Market and reach retail shelves in September, just in time for the start of California’s true summer. Initial retail response has been positive – with particular enthusiasm for the better-for-you brand proposition, industry veterans, and high-profile advocates – and pre-orders from chain and independent accounts are underway. Tolago will also be sold via Amazon.com, Drizly, Postmates, Uber Eats, and Cloud Kitchens.

The brand’s robust marketing campaign includes in-store retail programming, point of sale materials, digital and out-of-home advertising, as well as an annual commitment to 1% for the Planet. Bryan Boeck, Senior Vice President of Young’s Market, enthuses: “We can’t wait to launch Tolago. The hard seltzer category is on fire, and we want only the best for our book of business. We don’t see many wine and spirits distributors going into the category, which excites us.” The Tolago executive team is in talks with other select distributors nationwide.

“Tolago is the only drink I keep at my house AND the studio. It’s a secret weapon for a pool day or late night recording. I never get caught without a case!” says co-owner and music producer Kenny Beats. Greeninger concludes: “When others settled, we simply would not. Taking real ingredients to create a better-tasting, better-for-you hard seltzer captures the spirit of the collective behind this business.”

Taft’s Brewing Co. to Introduce Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie Ale

CINCINNATI— Frisch’s Big Boy and Taft’s Brewing Co. are rustling up Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie Ale, an autumn beer in which cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg combine with vanilla for a smooth, creamy finish. The Ale will be available at all major and independent retailers in Greater Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Lexington and Louisville. Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie Ale (ABV: 6.0%, IBU: 30) will make its debut at an Aug. 12, 6 p.m. public event at Taft’s Ale House, 1429 Race Street, Downtown Cincinnati. The first 75 people to arrive at the Aug. 12 Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie Ale event will receive a commemorative pint glass. Members of the media will receive a sample of Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie Ale. The event will also feature a question and answer session with Ryan Blandford, Head Brewer of Taft’s and a 6:30 p.m. toast from Jason Vaughn, the CEO of Frisch’s Big Boy.

“Two of Cincinnati’s biggest boys have come together to create a full-bodied limited edition ale that celebrates Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie. It pairs well with a carryout Big Boy sandwich and crinkle cut fries,” said Mr. Vaughn.

“Taft’s has called up the national gourd – Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie. We all have great memories of this fall favorite, and we’re proud and excited to partner with Frisch’s Big Boy to prove that pumpkin isn’t just for latte anymore,” said Dave Kassling, managing partner of Taft’s Brewing Co.

In its continued effort to ensure the safety of the community, guests and employees, Taft’s Ale House is hosting multi-table reservations for group events. Tables are a minimum of six feet apart and guests will be asked to remain seated as much as possible. Face masks are required when not seated. More details are available at website. Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie Ale will not be available at Frisch’s Big Boy restaurants.

About Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie
Frisch’s famous pumpkin pie is made from a secret recipe that dates back more than 50 years, and each pie is made in Frisch’s Kitchen in Walnut Hills. Pies are assembled daily in small batches, so they are always fresh, never frozen, and feature a made-from-scratch crust and a blend of secret spices closely guarded by the kitchen’s loyal bakers. Over a million slices are served every year.

About Taft’s Brewing Co.
Taft’s Brewing Company was founded in 2015 through the creation of Taft’s Ale House. The founders of Taft’s partnered with the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp to create the brewery and restaurant located in Cincinnati’s Over-The-Rhine. The three-story Ale House resides in a renovated historic church originally built in 1850 and offers premium steak fare in a beautifully designed space. In 2017, the Taft’s team created a production brewery and tap room, Taft’s Brewpourium Cincinnati, located in Spring Grove Village. The 50,000-square- foot facility is home to high-volume brewing and beer kegging, canning and packaging. The Brewpourium Cincy tap room offers guests 12- 15 of Taft’s house-created brews and New Haven-style coal-fired pizza. Taft’s also opened a sizeable indoor/outdoor space in the Franklinton Columbus area that features homemade brews and the same New Haven-style pizza in a funky 80’s/90’s themed hotspot. Taft’s beers can also be found in bars, restaurants, grocery stores and other outlets across the region. www.taftsbeer.com About Frisch’s Big BoyFounded in 1947, the Frisch’s family consists of more than 100 units, comprised of company-owned and franchise partner locations, across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
