Allagash Brewing Company Expands Two Lights Distribution to Full Footprint

August 4, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Allagash Brewing Company Expands Two Lights Distribution to Full Footprint

PORTLAND, Maine — Award-winning Allagash Brewing Company today announced that fan-favorite Two Lights will be released across the brewery’s full distribution footprint.* This spritzy blend of lager and sauvignon blanc grapes at 6.7% ABV is an ode to two of summer’s most refreshing drinks: cold beer and sparkling wine.

*Two Lights will initially be found in: ME, NH, VT, RI, MA, CT, NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, CA

Two Lights originated from Allagash’s pilot system, a program that allows any employee at Allagash to submit a concept for a beer. Since its inception in 2007, the pilot system has led to the release of countless well-loved Allagash beers .

“Innovation is fueled by the entire staff at Allagash. Instead of just relying on our 17 brewers for beer concepts, the Allagash pilot system allows us to draw from all 140-plus employees to develop creative ideas for new beers,” said Rob Tod, Founder, Allagash. “Two Lights is a terrific example of how listening to and encouraging our employees to be a part of the brewing process can result in something great.”

To create its crisp and dry profile, sauvignon blanc must—the freshly pressed juice of the grapes—is added and fermented with both lager and champagne yeast. The finished beer’s aromas of pear, grape, and light hops pair with a flavor profile that’s a mix of tropical fruit and the snappy spritz of a freshly picked grape.

“In keeping with the Belgian brewing tradition, we are constantly experimenting with unexpected ingredients in our beers,” said Jason Perkins, Brewmaster, Allagash. “The addition of sauvignon blanc grape must brings out a hint of fresh-picked grape aroma, the seasonal fruit making Two Lights a perfectly refreshing beer to enjoy throughout the summer and beyond.”

Two Lights will be available in 4 packs of 16 ounce cans throughout the brewery’s entire distribution footprint beginning in August. To learn more or to locate Allagash beer, visitallagash.com. Images are available for download and use here.

Flying Dog Brewery Launches First Major Sour Beer, Vicious Hook

Flying Dog Brewery Launches First Major Sour Beer, Vicious Hook

FREDERICK, Md. – Flying Dog Brewery today announced the launch of the brewery’s first major sour release, Vicious Hook. Vicious Hook is a one-two combo of sweet and tart that stuns you with a pucker punch. This extremely approachable sour begins shipping to distributors the week of August 3, 2020 in 6 x 12 oz. bottles.

Pitched as a part of the company’s Brewhouse Rarities program, Vicious Hook started off as a mere twinkle in the eye of a Flying Dog employee. Once developed, those lucky enough to try early samples begged for more. Vicious Hook delivers on its fruit punch promise, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness with a 5.3% ABV.

“I think we all grew up drinking fruit punch in the summer, hiding in the shade, trying not to melt. Well, we made a delicious adult version of that and gave it a little extra oomph,” said James Maravetz, VP of Marketing for Flying Dog Brewery. “This punch definitely earned its name.”

When paired with a meal, Vicious Hook’s crisp, fruity bite will refresh the palate and brighten dishes. Of all the contenders out there, Flying Dog suggests going one-on-one with chicken tenders or dry-rubbed wings, grilled shrimp, anything covered in ranch dressing and peanut butter cookies – it’ll be like a 21+ peanut butter and tropical jelly sandwich.

The name Vicious Hook is a boxing term, referencing the beer’s sweet start that finishes with a savage jolt of sourness and hits like a heavyweight. Flying Dog Brewery’s first major sour release begins shipping to distributors Monday, August 3, 2020 in 6 x 12oz. bottles.

Tröegs Adds Lucky Holler Hazy IPA to its Hop Cycle Series

Tröegs Adds Lucky Holler Hazy IPA to its Hop Cycle Series

HERSHEY, Pa. — Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the release of its new hazy IPA for fall, Lucky Holler. The beer joins the brewery’s popular Hop Cycle line-up of seasonally rotating IPAs.

Lucky Holler is inspired by the brewery’s annual pilgrimage to the Pacific Northwest for hop selection. Brewers walk row after row of hops, inspecting the bines, crushing the flowers in their hands and rubbing them until their oils fill the air.

“We go to Yakima to select hops for the beers that everybody knows and loves,” says Tröegs brewmaster and cofounding brother John Trogner. “Beers like Perpetual IPA, Nimble Giant and Nugget Nectar. And we’re also open to discovering new hops or combinations that might inspire us, an ‘a-ha’ moment where a new recipe starts taking shape.”

To learn more about Lucky Holler, including how the haze affects its flavor, please read the full story on our blog. You can also click here for a virtual tasting of the beer.

The Bruery and ‘Top Chef’ Winner Collaborate on a Trio of New Beers

August 4, 2020 by Andrew Innes

The Bruery and ‘Top Chef’ Winner Collaborate on a Trio of New Beers

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — Fresh off a win from Food Network’s “Tournament of Champions” this spring, Los Angeles chef and restaurateur Brooke Williamson, is teaming up yet again with the creative minds at The Bruery for a second round of collaborations. Their first collaboration included two beers. The first was Girl Grey— which featured the cool character of a Belgian-style ale, with sweet ribbons of almond flavors balanced by the piquant qualities of Earl Grey tea. The second was Kyuri Dragon— a refreshing, bright, tropical collaboration featuring The Bruery’s oak-aged sour blonde ale with cucumbers, dragon fruit, rambutan, kaffir lime leaf, and lychee. Those beers were such a hit they just had to team up again to create another palate-pleasing collaboration designed to pair seamlessly with food.

The Bruery’s Director of Production, Jeremy Grinkey, explains the inspiration behind the new concepts for the collaboration— Provisions with Chef Brooke Williamson, “We are inspired by nearly everything— food, wine, gardening, sunset dinners, long walks on the beach, etc.. For this collaboration with our friend, Chef Brooke, we focused on a trio of beers that would highlight some of our common inspirations, and the beautiful way that beer interacts with food.”

Provisions with Chef Brooke Williamson is a collection that begins with The Vine, a beer-wine hybrid with one of Chef Brooke’s oldest inspirers, Andrew Murray, of Andrew Murray Vineyards. Next is The Berry, a huckleberry fruited tripel, inspired by their mutual love of tripels and Chef Brooke’s favorite berry, the huckleberry. Finally, we have The Spice, a thyme-spiced imperial stout that showcases Chef Brooke’s love of gardening and growing her own herbs with The Bruery’s love of brewing stouts. In fact, the thyme used in this beer was sourced directly from Chef Brooke’s home herb garden. As Jeremy Grinkey further explains, “We want these Provisions with Chef Brooke to bookend and complement that special dinner shared with good company.”

The Bruery’s Innovation Manager, Andrew Bell, shares the experience of working with Chef Brooke on this collaboration, “Brooke was great to work with— she is an absolute master of her craft. We are fortunate enough to occasionally get to work with some of the top people in other industries, be it chefs, wine makers, or ice cream makers, and it is always both fascinating as well as a great learning experience for us. Having Brooke’s perspective and input on both ingredients and flavor profiles definitely shows through on these delicious beers.”

This trio of beers launched to the public on Thursday, July 16, on TheBruery.com and at all three of The Bruery locations, including The Bruery Tasting Room in Placentia, CA, The Bruery- Terreux Tasting Room in Anaheim, CA, and The Bruery Store located at Union Market in Washington D.C. The Bruery also delivers throughout California and parts of Nevada through express shipping and local delivery options. The full Provisions lineup will also be available later this summer at Chef Brooke’s restaurant, Playa Provisions in Playa Del Rey, CA, both in-restaurant and bottles to-go. The Vine will be hitting full distribution across the nation on August 1, 2020. The Berry and The Spice will see limited distribution. You can locate this incredible trio of beers by using The Bruery’s beer finder at TheBruery.com.

XTECA Releases More Bounce Hoppy Lager

August 3, 2020 by Andrew Innes

XTECA Releases More Bounce Hoppy Lager

SAN DIEGO — Brewed in San Diego, California, More Bounce takes XTECA’s classic Mexican Lager recipe and hits the switch on the hops for a dank, hoppy brew that is still sessionable at an ABV of 5.4%.

More Bounce comes packed with Mosaic, CTC, Idaho 7 and Admiral hops for a well-rounded hop flavor and amazing aroma. Craft beer lovers know the taste range of these hops due to their popularity among brewers and their use in IPAs.

Despite using the best hop varieties, More Bounce doesn’t look to overwhelm with resin and pine flavors found in many IPAs. Coming in at 17 IBUs, it gives a nice bite of hop bitterness while letting its grain body come through. As shared by XTECA head brewer Carlos Appel, “Don’t let the low IBUs fool you, this brew has plenty of hops in it.”

Much like XTECA Mexican Lager, More Bounce is a reflection of who we are and what we like. Brewing out of San Diego, we love the hoppy West Coast style brews crafted in our home town, but we also can’t get enough of the classic Mexican beers our friends and family have consumed for generations. More Bounce is a fusion of these two traditions, it’s bold yet familiar, a perfect entry point for any new craft beer drinkers or something smoother for the hophead crowd.

As much as we like to make what we love to drink, XTECA team’s love for San Diego’s lowrider scene is also reflected in the artwork for More Bounce. The design created by XTECA co-owner Mario Lopez, “Mr.Hoppie hitting the switch” on a classic ‘61 Chevy is a reflection of what’s inside the can, More Bounce to the Ounce.

You can find More Bounce wherever you pick up the original XTECA Mexican Lager. Current distribution territories in California include San Diego, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Clara, Sacramento, San Francisco, Monterey and Imperial Counties.

Two Roads Brewing Co. and Rhythm Brewing Co. Team Up for Black Is Beautiful Collaboration

Two Roads Brewing Co. and Rhythm Brewing Co. Team Up for Black Is Beautiful Collaboration

STRATFORD, Conn. – Two Roads Brewing Co. and Rhythm Brewing Co. are standing with over 1,000 breweries across 19 countries in an attempt to bring global awareness to the injustices many of people of color face by taking part in the growing Black Is Beautiful beer campaign.

Black Is Beautiful is a world-wide collaboration that was originated by Marcus Baskerville, founder and head brewer at Weathered Souls Brewing in San Antonio. On it’s website, Bakersville said, “Our mission is to bridge the gap that’s been around for ages and provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color.”

Alisa Bowens-Mercado, owner and brewer at Rhythm Brewing Co. said of the collaboration, “The Black is Beautiful initiative is amazing on so many different levels. We get to raise a glass of awareness of social and racial Injustice and as a brewer, I get to brew next to people that I look up to in the industry.”

The collaboration between Two Roads and Rhythm Brewing came to fruition after Bowens-Mercado reached out to the Connecticut Craft Brewer’s Guild looking for resources on how to get involved. “They connected me with the wonderful folks at Two Roads and their team made the collaboration happen,” she added.

Two Roads Master Brewer Phil Markowski joined Alisa on the pilot brewery system from start to finish, stewarding the brew along. “It was delightful to spend the day brewing with Alisa. She is so energetic and fun. The coolest thing was that her mom and husband stopped by at different times during the brew. It was so enjoyable that at times I lost track of the underlying seriousness of our effort, to produce a beer that will help fund two very meaningful charities,” Markowski said.

The 8.9% ABV Black is Beautiful Imperial Stout will be released on July 31st in draft and 16 oz. 4-pack cans at noon at Two Roads’ Stratford, CT brewery. 100% of all proceeds will be split between a local charity of each brewery’s choice; Two Roads will be donating to the Stratford Education Foundation’s grant program to increase the school district’s Teaching Tolerance™ curriculum and Bowens-Mercado, a native of New Haven, picked The Boys and Girls Club of New Haven.

To celebrate the brewery-only collaboration release, Bowens-Mercado and Markowski will be on hand in the tasting room on July 31. Besides showcasing the Black is Beautiful collab, Two Roads will also pour Rhythm’s Blue Unfiltered Light Lager on draft. 100% of proceeds from each draft pour for both Black is Beautiful and Blue Unfiltered Light Lager will also go towards perspective charities.

Bowens-Mercado said, “The charities that we’re chosen will have a huge impact on our youth moving forward. This experience will be one in my brewing career I will never forget.”

About Two Roads Brewing Company
Two Roads opened its doors in December 2012 having earlier acquired and renovated a100-year-old vacant, brick factory building in Stratford, CT. Its name and philosophy are inspired by the Robert Frost Poem “The Road Not Taken”—a philosophy brought to life in the beers they create using the highest quality brewing and packaging equipment.
