Molson Coors to Release Atwater Brewery Light Citrus Blond

February 21, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Molson CoorsDETROIT — Atwater Brewery, Detroit’s hometown brewer, announced that an entirely new brew is being added to its 2021 release calendar.

Light Citrus Blond (ABV: 4.0) is scheduled to hit store shelves just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The low-calorie (100 calories) wheat ale includes delicate notes of citrus to create its clean, crisp and refreshing taste. It will be packaged in sleek 12 ounce cans.

“Light Citrus Blond will be our most significant product line update of the year,” Atwater President Mark Rieth said. “We believe Light Citrus Ale will have a similar market impact as POG-O-LICIOUS had last year, when it was immediately embraced by retailers and our customers.”

Light Citrus Blond was modeled to complement Atwater’s flagship Dirty Blond in the brewer’s wheat ale category.”Atwater has had success with our wheat ales, so it made sense for us to extend that into a lighter, easy drinking alternative,” Rieth said.

Since 1997, Atwater has created beers that are “Born in Detroit. Raised Everywhere.” and pay homage to the German brewing heritage. Light Citrus Blond is entirely consistent with that goal by effortlessly combining unique tastes in a smooth, drinkable and refreshing ale.

Ferment Brewing Releases Three New Canned Beers in its Ferment Series

February 21, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Ferment Brewing CompanyHOOD RIVER, Ore. — Ferment Brewing Co. has released three new canned offerings: Nitro Dry Stout and Something Like… join the brewery’s Top Ferment Series, while Pils Bernina is a new addition to the Bottom Ferment Series. The Top and Bottom Ferment Series both feature 16-ounce cans filled with experimental, one-off and seasonal ales and lagers, respectively.

Nitro Dry Stout embodies the spirit of the midnight-black ales of Dublin. A pale mash and unique black sparge technique imparts a gentle acidity to the beer along with a clean, delicate roast character in this surprisingly refreshing dark ale that’s canned with nitrogen (4.5% ABV). This marks the first time the brewery has canned this popular beer.

“Ever since its inception, we have looked forward to the day when we could package our Nitro Dry Stout,” said Dan Peterson, Ferment Brewing Brewmaster. “Now we get to release it alongside a fun take on a Pilsner style and a bold, hoppy, tropical hazy pale ale.”

Something Like… is a hazy pale ale brewed with Ekuanot and Strata hops (6% ABV). The beer is similar to Something Like Mind Control, Ferment’s collaboration with Moonraker Brewing Co. in Auburn, California. Pils Bernina is Ferment’s take on an Italian-style Pilsner—it’s bright and boldly loaded with Noble hops (6% ABV).

Ferment Brewing Co.’s tasting room is now open for limited and safe distance dining indoors at 403 Portway Avenue in Hood River. Hours are 12-9 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The brewery is thrilled to be able to carefully curate a healthy experience for people to escape from the cold. Ferment Brewing beers are available in local bottle shops in the Portland and Hood River areas.

About Ferment Brewing Co.

Widmer Brothers Partners with Artist Mike Bennett to Launch Hazy Jack Pale Ale

February 21, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Widmer Brothers BrewingPORTLAND, Ore. – To jumpstart 2021 in grand fashion, Widmer Brothers is launching Hazy Jack Pale Ale, a modern take on Widmer Brothers’ 2001 classic Hop Jack Pale Ale. To celebrate the launch of Hazy Jack Pale Ale, its cans adorned with an aviator-wearing jackalope, Widmer Brothers is teaming up with local artist Mike Bennett on a scavenger hunt that will feature three distinct Bennett artistic cutouts of the mythical jackrabbit-antelope hybrid that lives in the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest.

On three separate occasions in February, Bennett – voted best visual artist of 2020 for his Crypto Zoo work during the COVID pandemic – will post a clue on his popular Instagram feed that will direct followers to a spot in Portland where participants will have a chance to win one of Bennett’s Jackalope cutouts. Widmer Brothers will also set up a social distancing tent with samples of Hazy Jack Pale Ale for those 21+ as well as other swag from the longtime Portland brewery.

“We’re thrilled to partner with such a local, beloved artist,” said Widmer Brothers Brand Manager Jake Neilson. “The whimsical jackalope caricature on our Hazy Jack cans seemed to be made for this sort of partnership given Mike’s great talent. We are also excited to announce that we’ll be donating a portion of the March sales of Hazy Jack to Meals on Wheels.”

Hazy Jack Pale Ale was brought to life for modern palates, while still maintaining the citrusy and piney characteristics and mellow finish of the original.

“This beer packs a ton of citrus and pine notes and has a beautiful hazy pour,” said Neilson. “We can’t wait for beer fans across the Pacific Northwest to try it.”

Hazy Jack will be available through September of this year in 6- and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans. For more information on Widmer Brothers Brewing, visit widmerbrothers.com or see what the brewery is up to on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

About Hazy Jack Pale Ale

Hazy Jack Pale Ale… Legend says that the greatest hops in the world grow from its antlers. Though many have tried, no one has found the animal and its elusive hops. We still believe it is out there, however. This hazy pale ale pays tribute to the legend of Hop Jack with bold piney and citrusy hops and soft malt notes. River North Brewery Celebrates with a Barrel Aged Coconut Imperial Stout

February 20, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

River North Brewery DENVER — River North Brewery didn’t imagine they would have opened three taprooms, produced thousands of barrels of beers and dealt with a pandemic all within nine years of being a small craft brewery in the RiNo neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. Three taproom openings, one taproom closure, and many pints later, River North Brewery is celebrating their ninth year in business on February 20th with a special release that will have you living that coconut kinda life!

The release of Anniversary 9, a whiskey barrel aged coconut imperial stout, will be the highlight of the celebration. This 12.5% imperial stout is meant for coconut lovers and stout lovers alike as it boasts bold flavors of whiskey, chocolate and so much coconut you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well all the flavors mesh together. “After nine years, we’re still having a blast brewing some serious stouts and aging them in fresh, local whiskey barrels. How could we pass up the opportunity to age an anniversary beer for nine months, with nine pounds of coconut per barrel, bottle 99 cases and release it on our 9th birthday?” Founder Hess said about the special release. Anniversary 9 will be on tap and in 375ml bottles at both taprooms starting Friday, February 19th.

Celebrating an anniversary when capacities are limited and social distancing is enforced is no easy task for any business, let alone a small craft brewery. Doing it safely (and somehow in a fun way) is key this year and with next year being a big decade old celebration makes it easy to play it low-key this time around for River North Brewery. During the anniversary weekend there will be specialty beer releases, coconut truffle pairings and more fun things to get you excited about making your way to the taprooms for a celebratory weekend. Follow the River North Brewery social media pages to see what will be released!

Both taprooms open at 12pm on weekends and will have food trucks for the anniversary day on Saturday. You can find a calendar of River North Brewery’s food truck schedule along with other beer releases and info on their website at www.rivernorthbrewery.com

Cape May Brewing Company Announces Cape May Hard Seltzer

February 20, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Cape May BrewingCape May, NJ — Cape May Brewing Company is pleased to announce their entry into craft hard seltzer with Cape May Hard Seltzer, packaged in a 12-ounce, 12-can variety pack featuring four incredible new flavors: grapefruit, black cherry, watermelon, and mango.

“Cape May Brewing Company’s entry into craft seltzer has been in development for several months as we searched for ways to ensure that our products stood out in an increasingly crowded marketplace,” says Cape May Brewing Company CEO Ryan Krill. “Now, between our choices of flavors, our use of fresh fruit juices, and our branding, drinkers throughout New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware will look to Cape May as their new go-to seltzer.”

As the growth from hard seltzer increases, Cape May Brewing Company searched for a product that would not only stand out on shelves but also stand out in consumers’ minds.

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past year or so, it’s that hard seltzer is here to stay,” says Director of Sales Bill Zaninelli, “so we wanted to throw our hat in the ring with a new, craft offering. Unlike others in the field, our seltzers are made using cane sugar and all-natural, fresh fruit juices, creating a flavor profile that you’re unlikely to find elsewhere — fresh, crisp, and ridiculously refreshing.”

Cape May’s focus throughout the development of their hard seltzers has remained focused on one thing: maintaining an intense fruit flavor above all else.

“It’s all about the flavor,” says Cape May Brewing Company’s Vice President of Brewing Operations Brandon Greenwood. “First and foremost, Cape May’s seltzer flavors are all-natural, bright, and true to character. Borrowing from Willy Wonka (and with a little artistic license), the mango tastes like juicy, ripe mango. Secondly, the proprietary process that we employ to make the seltzers leads to an easy-drinking, clean, and refreshing product where only the flavors that we want to showcase come through. No unpleasant fermentation by-products in these bad boys!”

Available in a 12-pack of 12-ounce cans, the branding for Cape May Hard Seltzers is strongly in line with the brewery’s overall branding, yet very much its own.

“We’re thrilled with the branding concept for Cape May Hard Seltzer,” says Cape May Brewing Company Marketing Director Alicia Grasso. “Unmistakably Cape May, the Hard Seltzer Variety Pack builds off of our beers’ branding and communicates freshness, flavor, and refreshment. And, with that totally rad octopus taking center stage, the design is in keeping with all of Cape May’s nautical branding.”

Ultimately, Cape May Brewing Company hopes that it’s the flavors that keep their fans coming back to Cape May Hard Seltzer.

“Cape May Brewing Company’s seltzers are a cut above the rest and a perfect match for a day down the shore,” Greenwood says. “But don’t take my word for it, try one for yourself. You won’t regret it!”

Craft Hard Seltzers from Cape May Brewing Company will be available in a 12 ounce 12 pack throughout New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware beginning March 1st.

For more information on Cape May Brewing Company, please visit capemaybrewery.com or call (609) 849-9933.

Beer Kulture and Athletic Brewing Collaborate on Soul Sour Non-Alcoholic Beer

February 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Beer Kulture Athletic BrewingSTRATFORD, Conn. and SAN DIEGO — Beer Kulture, the nonprofit organization working to increase diversity and inclusion in the craft beer industry, announced a partnership with Athletic Brewing Company, America’s leading nonalcoholic brewer. The partners will brew and distribute a new, limited-release beer, “Soul Sour,” a refreshing and slightly sour brew for craft beer lovers committed to social change.

Beer Kulture partners with companies and organizations in the beverage industry to increase diversity, inclusion, and equity through humanitarian assistance, educational programs, and compassionate community services. “We’re grateful to partner with Athletic Brewing on our first nonalcoholic beer,” said Latiesha Cook, CEO, and President, Beer Kulture. “Financial support like our Soul Sour collaboration directly enables our efforts to expand diversity, equity, and inclusion within the beer industry through scholarships, internships, and beyond. Soul Sour, and all the people behind it, perfectly embody the Beer Kulture movement and we are excited to release it to Athletic’s community of fans and craft beer lovers everywhere.”

Soul Sour is anchored by the flavors of Blueberry, Lemon, and Mango (BLM). It has a sweet nose and is crisply refreshing, yet the slightly sour finish makes it both vibrant and bright, as well as smooth and tart. Soul Sour features Amarillo, Citra and Mosaic hops along with lemon peel. It is available starting Tuesday (16), to ship direct to consumers nationwide via athleticbrewing.com.

While most Athletic brewing recipes originate on the brewing floor, Soul Sour was inspired by conversations with Athletic team members who wanted to celebrate the beauty of community and Black culture.

“We wanted to create something that made change for the better in the world we live in today, especially for those who are underrepresented in the craft beer and Black communities,” said Dontrel Flathers. “It’s a chance to not only give soul to the craft beer community, but to emphasize there will always be unity, inclusion, and respect here. That’s the power of soul, and it’s within everyone.”

Athletic partnered with two Portland-based artists, Rachel Gloria and Ryan Adams, who brought Black textile motifs and lettering reminiscent of signage from Southern Soul Food restaurants to create vibrant packaging rooted in Black history.

“When we were approached to work on this beer, we were given a statement that explained the purpose and inspiration behind it. It touched on the lack of representation of Black people in the world of craft brewing, and with us being Mainers and heavily involved in the craft beer community, it really hit home,” said Ryan.

For Rachel, the nod to Soul Food and the commemoration of Black History Month served as catalysts for the creative process. “I pulled my inspiration for the label’s graphics from African mud cloths and Black American quilts. The idea of patchworking motifs together to create harmony is part of my artistic practice and it felt like the right fit for this project.”

“I love the label and creativity from Ryan and Rachel, and it’s been great working with Athletic. I look forward to building on our relationship in the future,” added Latiesha.

Hairless Dog Brewing Company Expands Distribution to Colorado

February 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Hairless Dog Brewing

MINNEAPOLIS – Hairless Dog Brewing Company is expanding its footprint to include Colorado after announcing partnerships with Culture Beverage. The company recently announced the additions of Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee to its map.

Consumers who want to avoid alcohol without compromising flavor seek out non alcoholic beers, but some brews contain as much as 0.5% alcohol. Unlike category competitors who brew their NA beers with alcohol and then boil it off (a process which leaves some alcohol behind but also changes the flavor of the beer in the process), Hairless Dog Brewing Company invented an innovative brewing process in which alcohol is never introduced, making them the first 0.0% ABV craft NA beer in the county.

Hollander and Pirner established the company after both deciding to opt for a life free of alcohol and their desire to make an NA beer that people wanted to drink for what it was rather than what it wasn’t. Hairless Dog Brewing currently has four styles of craft beer available, all of which are 0.0% ABV, including an IPA, Citra Lager, Coffee Stout, and Black Ale – with new flavors slated for release in early 2021.

Check out their recent mentions in Forbes, Shape Magazine,Popular Mechanics andThe Boston Globe.

Shipping to the lower 48 states, Hairless Dog’s brand new 4-can sampler packs are the perfect COVID-friendly gift for that family member, close friend, or indispensable coworker you want to treat (even if you can’t drink one with them).

Please let us know if you’d like to schedule a time to speak with Jeff or Paul about the “Sober Curious” movement and NA category at-large, their unique brewing process, or sample their delicious brews.

About Hairless Dog Brewing Company

Hairless Dog is the first domestic US 0.0% ABV craft beer brand, with truly alcohol-free products. Our brews are flavor-forward so you celebrate an active social life while making healthy choices. Our brews are for anyone. Whether you still enjoy traditional beers, but sometimes want the flavor profile without the alcohol, or you work from home, are pregnant, a first responder on call, or you’ve simply left alcohol behind for better health. Whatever your story, Hairless Dog is here for you to enjoy with 0% alcohol and 0.0% regrets. For more information, visit drinkhairlessdog.com.

Montavilla Brew Works Releases Lovin’ Oregon for Oregon’s 161st Birthday

February 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Montavilla Brew Works

PORTLAND, Ore. — Montavilla Brew Works (MBW) has announced the canning of a new West Coast IPA that celebrates living in Oregon and coincides with the state’s 161st birthday. Lovin’ Oregon was brewed in collaboration with Heart in Oregon, a Portland company whose sticker featuring a green heart in the center of the state is ubiquitous in the Northwest.

Lovin’ Oregon is a West Coast IPA brewed with pilsner and pale malts that support a medium-light body, easy drinkability and a dry finish. Falconer’s Flight hops impart tropical and fruity flavors while maintaining a restrained yet suitable bitterness. This IPA is dry hopped with Citra and Strata hops with aromas of grapefruit, lime, tropical fruit and dank herb. The beer comes in at 6.5% ABV.

“This collaboration between MBW and Heart in Oregon is what makes this job so rewarding,” said Michael Kora, MBW founder and head brewer. “We’ve always enjoyed partnering with other local businesses that share our vision of keeping things local, serving the community, and supporting each other in good times and bad. 2020 was an incredibly challenging year, particularly for small businesses like ours that had to pivot their business model to accommodate Covid-related safety protocols. It made sense to collaborate with Heart in Oregon, not only to celebrate Oregon’s 161st birthday but to celebrate surviving 2020 in the resilient state we live in.”

Chris Bucci, the founder of Heart in Oregon, explained that since February 14 is both Valentine’s Day and Oregon’s statehood birthday, he’s been looking for partnerships with Oregon-based companies whose products are a natural fit for release on that date.

“Teaming up with MBW made perfect sense—both our companies are headquartered in Portland’s Montavilla neighborhood and Michael and I both live nearby. And after the year we’ve all experienced, we’re excited to share a beer with our fellow Oregonians.”

Added Kora, “What’s exciting about this collaboration is that everyone recognizes Chris’ stickers—they’re everywhere, from vehicle bumpers to beer kegerators to bicycle helmets. Seeing his popular image on our cans of IPA and distributing them across the state is a real treat for us and reminds us of how fortunate we are to be in Oregon.”

Oregon’s official birthday is February 14, but one-off IPA Lovin’ Oregon will be available starting today until supplies run out. Prepay and pickup or home delivery orders can be placed online with touchless transactions available at the brewery.

About Montavilla Brew Works

Montavilla Brew Works was founded by Michael Kora in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, in the heart of the historic Stark Street business district. Located at 7805 SE Stark St., Montavilla Brew Works is a 10-barrel capacity brewery and taproom that utilizes high-quality brewing ingredients to produce time-honored yet exciting beer styles. The brewhouse and taproom are situated in a remodeled auto garage built in 1922, with an outdoor patio that’s a neighborhood summertime favorite. Spacious, yet remarkably intimate, the neighborhood haunt is full of lively locals and good conversation in a true pub atmosphere. A dynamic tap list consists of fresh focused Pacific Northwest-style ales, German-style lagers, wood-aged beers, and occasional Belgian-style brews.
