21st Amendment Partners with Pink Boots Society for Release of Moon Boots IPA

April 22, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

21st Amendment San Francisco, Calif. — Though the craft beer industry’s demographics and workforce are evolving away from beer bellies and beards, there’s still much room for change to reflect the growing diversity of the craft beer consumer. 21st Amendment Brewery advocates for the advancement of exceptionally talented women in partnership with the Pink Boots Society for the limited-edition release of Moon Boots IPA. Coinciding with the nationwide release of Moon Boots IPA in April 2021, 21st Amendment Brewery is funding three Certified Cicerone Level-Two Course & Exam Scholarships and one “Women In Leadership” Certificate Scholarship at eCornell University exclusively for Pink Boots Members to apply for.

Moon Boots IPA was designed and created by an all-woman team at 21st Amendment Brewery. The project was spearheaded by Sarah Swafford (National Sales Manager), who says, “21A has been incredibly supportive of Pink Boots Society for many years and has participated in several Pink Boots beers. Moon Boots IPA was initially a small batch beer that we called Pink Brüts! and was brewed at 21st Amendment’s downtown San Francisco brewpub for International Women’s Day (2019). We developed the recipe and concept using the Pink Boots hop blend. When it was released, it was so well received at the pub, taproom, and participating accounts we knew it would be a great candidate for one of our nationwide limited-edition releases.”

Swafford has a long time connection to Pink Boots Society. “When I moved to the Bay Area, I joined my local Pink Boots chapter to connect with other women in the industry. It was such a great opportunity to support and learn from other women who worked in all facets of the industry: brewers, bar owners, bartenders, beer buyers, lab, etc. I found that Pink Boots offered me a great community and friends while enhancing my beer education that’s led to me elevating my career.”

“The women team members at 21st Amendment are an essential and vibrant part of our company and culture,” says Shaun O’Sullivan (Co-Founder & Brewmaster, 21st Amendment Brewery). “What’s a better way to celebrate this excellent group than with a beer uniquely designed by them. Releasing Moon Boots IPA on a national level is an opportunity to shine a big bright light on the important work of the Pink Boots Society and highlight the immense talent of the women on our team. At 21st Amendment Brewery, we want to be an agent of change in supporting Pink Boots’ members with four scholarships in 2021.”

21st Amendment Brewery funds three Certified Cicerone Level-Two Course & Exam Scholarships and one “Women In Leadership” Certificate Scholarship with eCornell University exclusively for Pink Boots Members to apply for. Swafford herself was a recipient of a Pink Boots Society scholarship.

The otherworldly packaging artwork for Moon Boots IPA was commissioned by renowned Los Angeles-based animation artist Robin Eisenberg (Instagram). Her portfolio revolves around celebrating sexuality and the diversity of women. The packaging for Moon Boots IPA features the creators envisioned as otherworldly beings.

Robin Eisenberg comments, “I’ve always loved celebrating women in my work, and working with 21st Amendment on this was so much fun! I think it’s amazing that Moon Boots IPA is not only recognizing women in brewing, but it’s also helping to create more opportunities for future women in the industry. So happy I could be a part of the project!”

Moon Boots IPA is clean, crisp, and brewed with pilsner malts, toasted rice, and strawberries. Hopped with Citra Cryo, Azacca, and Mosaic hops, Moon Boots IPA blasts beer lovers to another planetary dimension with its soft aromatics and refreshing strawberry notes making this a beer for stargazers.

About Pink Boots Society

The Pink Boots Society was created to assist, inspire and encourage women in the alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education. We support all women of the industry, from those that own breweries, those that package the beer, that design beers, serve beers, write about beer, and everything in between. Most importantly, we teach each other what we know through our own seminar programs, and we help each other advance our beer careers by raising money for educational scholarships. Pabst Brewing Releases Rainier Huckleberry, Apple, and Lemon Seltzer

April 22, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Pabst BrewingThis Spring, the Rainier Center for Discovery has made yet another transformative discovery for drinkers and nature enthusiasts of the Pacific NorthWest, for only the second time in over 140 years, a new species of mythic Wild Rainiers has been discovered. Their findings confidently suggest that there are now three lively Seltzer breeds of Rainier; Huckleberry, Apple and Lemon, swimming in cold PNW waters and roaming the alpine mountains of Cascadia.

The Center reports that the three new breeds of Wild Rainiers travel together in packs of 12. While slim in size, they weigh 12oz and are able to pounce at 4.6% ABV, though lower in sugar and calories than other comparable species. With only 90 calories, 0g of sugar and 1g of carb, the new Wild Rainiers are a majestic sight to behold, with wonderfully fresh fruitful aromas.

“And to think, we’d almost lost hope of ever finding the Rainier Seltzers. We always knew something big was out there. Now it’s finally here.” – Ron Yaier, Lead Scientist at the Rainier Center for Discovery

Since the first encounter of a Rainier species was made in 1878, there were no substantial discoveries made for over 140 years until the famed Mountain Fresh Gin was identified in September 2020. The Rainier Center for Discovery suggests the new Wild Rainiers have evolved in part due to the demands of a rapidly changing world, the new Rainiers certainly point to a rich and evolving species.

Findings conclude that Huckleberry, Apple and Lemon Wild Rainiers can be spotted in stores concentrated across Washington and Oregon, and are likely to begin appearing in volume in April. For more information please visit https://pabst.com/

Los Angeles Women of Beer Announce 2021 Collaboration Brews

April 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Los Angeles Women of BeerLos Angeles, CA – Pink Boots Society’s Los Angeles Chapter announces their 2021 Collaboration Brews, an annual event spotlighting women in the brewing industry and in partnership with local breweries to create and release a beer supporting the nonprofit, which focuses on developing educational programs and fundraising for scholarships to assist women (those who identify as female, cis, trans, and non-binary individuals) further their careers in the alcohol industry. For the fourth year in a row, starting in March on International Women’s Day, women in the brewing industry around the globe come together, collaborate and release beers in support of the Pink Boots Society while using Yakima Chief Hops’ special Pink Boots Hop Blend. A percentage of proceeds from each release is donated to the local chapter to fundraise for educational events and scholarships.

The Pink Boots Yakima Chief Hop Blend includes Cashmere, Ahtanum®, Citra®, Loral® and Sabro® hops and purchases from each sale are donated to the nonprofit. Malt was also donated to two of the participating breweries – Trademark Brewing and Highland Park Brewery – by Admiral Maltings out of Alameda, CA.

This year, Trademark Brewing in Long Beach was the host brewery and brewed a Hoppy Pale Ale titled “All Dolled Up,” which is now available for purchase at the taproom. The artwork was also designed by Pink Boots LA Cabinet Member Kelly Erickson of Craft Media Solutions. Due to Covid, Pink Boots Los Angeles livestreamed the event on Instagram versus hosting an in-person event so all members were able to be part of it virtually.

In regards to the “All Dolled Up” Pale Ale, “The inspiration for the beer came from my own personal experience being a brewer, says Trademark’s Head Brewer Valerie Hicks. “As a female brewer, I often get stereotyped for my appearance given it’s physical labor every single day and I have certain attire for safety reasons like overalls, boots and so on. I wanted to bring light to the assumption that just because I may have a job and wear certain attire that most may assume is more ‘male-centric’ doesn’t mean I’m not feminine nor like to dress up for the occasion. I hope this helps challenge those gender norms vs. having that initial assumption and judgement based on how we may look. Because women brew delicious beer and who says a female brewer can’t get all dolled up?!”

This week, Golden Road Brewing also premiered their Pink Boots beer, “All Pale the Queen,” a refreshing pale ale with pineapple, ginger and lime, which will be available at Golden Road pubs.

“This year’s International Women’s Day brew day was definitely a little different than in years past,” Stephanie Gebhardt, Head Brewer at Golden Road Brewing. “We came together safely, mostly remotely, to plan and execute the brew and ended up with a really tropical beer, made with pineapple, ginger, and lime which really compliment the 2021 Pink Boots Hop blend.”

This past week, Frogtown Brewery released their Pink Boots brew, “All Places” Pale Ale, in honor of the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg in reference to her well-known quote, “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”

“It’s our third year brewing a Pink Boots Collaboration beer at Frogtown Brewery,” says Frogtown’s General Manager and Pink Boots LA Treasurer Mallory Jackson. “This year our team of six women decided to create a crushable, hop-forward tropical pale ale that we double dry hopped using the Pink Boots Blend. The name of the beer, ‘All Places,’ is inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s quote. When she passed away last year I felt the urge to do something to pay homage to the badass woman who helped pave the way for women everywhere to have a place at the table. It was also great working with graphic designer Kate Eglen to bring this idea to life with our label artwork.” – Mallory Jackson, General Manager at Frogtown Brewery.

Recently, Highland Park Brewery participated in their very first Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day led by Assistant General Manager and Pink Boots Board Director Blanca Quintero who worked with the brewery’s co-owner Tiffany Kunz on the recipe, design and name “Mas Chingona,” which is spanish for a badass woman who chooses to live her life by her own terms.

Quintero says, “‘Mas Chingona’ is a great representation of where our brewery is today.”

The women of Highland Park Brewery crack open a can of Mas Chingonas in celebration of the release!

There are now over 380 breweries worldwide registered for the Collaboration Brew Day. In Los Angeles, participating breweries also include: Brewjeria Company, Claremont Craft Ales, Feathered Serpent Brewery, Golden Road Brewing, Indie Brewing, Poseidon Brewing Co. and Tarantula Hill Brewing Co. Each brewery hosts their own brew day and releases a beer to the public with a portion of proceeds donated to the Los Angeles Chapter. Boulder Beer Releases Bubbly by Nature IPA

April 17, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Boulder Beer COLORADO – Boulder Beer Company, one of America’s oldest and most storied craft breweries, is excited to announce the release of Bubbly By Nature, the Bubbly IPA. Following its brand refresh at the beginning of the year, Boulder Beer Company has been intent on not only paying homage to its storied past, but also ushering in a more contemporary approach toward its beer program.

Tropical and fruit-forward like modern IPAs, crisp and easy drinking like a lager, and more fruit-forward and lively like a hard seltzer, Bubbly by Nature pushes the boundary of innovation by fusing elements from three of the most popular craft segments on the market. This unique union results in its own naturally bubbly style.

“We always try to look at style trend data, not to see what everyone else is brewing, but instead to identify an opportunity that everyone else is missing,” explains Greg Owsley, founder of The Storied Brand and brand strategist for Boulder Beer Company. “So we went: fruity, citrusy IPAs are hot, crushable lagers remain a go-to, and seltzers are atomic. Could Boulder Beer triangulate our own original “Bubbly” recipe that plays up the best of all three styles? It’s up to the drinkers to decide, but to me, I think the crew nailed a brew that delivers an entirely unique delicious pleasure.”

Still brewed with just water, barley, hops, and yeast, Bubbly by Nature utilizes an English ale yeast strain for a drier finish while still allowing the malt and hops to shine. Additionally, the use of Sabro, CTZ and Mandarina Bavaria hops help to showcase a tropical fruit-forward juicy profile, without employing any actual fruit. Additionally, in wanting to create a lighter, more effervescent profile, Bubbly by Nature is carbonated at higher levels for a truly bubbly mouthfeel.

“At 4.5% ABV, Bubbly is awesome because it drinks light and is low in calories, very much like a seltzer, but it’s a beer,” said Sleeping Giant head brewer, Mikey Abell. “It’s a tropical, hoppy crusher for anyone, anytime, and also feeds your need for bubbles.”

“It’s the perfect white space between lager, hard seltzer and IPA,” noted Sleeping Giant president and founder, Matthew Osterman. “We think this innovative new hybrid of styles will be the perfect combination of flavors and mouthfeel to become the ultimate summertime crusher.”

Epic Brewing Releases Armadillo Comet Imperial IPA

April 17, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Epic BrewingDENVER —Armadillo Comet is a West Coast-style Imperial IPA with an IBU rating that will launch you into space. This out-of-this-world beer falls from the stars today! Come try it on draft at our Denver taproom. Soon, it’ll start orbiting the front range in the form of 16oz satellites.

In honor of majestic animals and celestial artifacts, Epic Brewing Company presents: Armadillo Comet Imperial IPA. Nate Levi – Colorado native and Regional Sales Rep – had a lot to say about the name.

“Armadillo Comet? First thing that comes to mind is a group of people who are running out of ideas on what to name new beers. Second thing would be a strain of cannabis native to West Texas. Did a guy from Colorado make a weed joke? Yes.” Nate, however, isn’t just a connoisseur of Colorado chronic. He’s ecstatic about our new IPA.

“Honestly, I miss the IBU wars of the early 2010s. I love beer that’s crystal clear and the color of straw with piney & resinous aromas that are so aggressive that you can smell the beer when you hold your glass at arm’s length. I want the flavor to be so insanely bitter that sipping it peels a layer of enamel off your teeth and the finish so dry it’s like your tongue is covered in 220 grit sandpaper. The Epic Imperial IPA was always one of my favorites from us & I’m happy to see our brewers take a crack at this.”

Okay, so maybe a couple of you guessed it; Armadillo Comet was named after Amarillo and Comet hops, popular strains in West Coast-style IPAs and abundant in this brew. Naturally, our team went to work to launch a beer without the nebulous haze frequented by East Coast IPAs. With heaping mounds of hops added to lift the IBU rating to space, we guarantee Armadillo Comet has a bite that rivals any other beer in the Animalia kingdom.

Get ready to fill that black hole in your fridge because Armadillo Comet leaves Epic’s atmosphere to enter your orbit in April. This out of the world beer will first be available at our Denver and Salt Lake City locations, then it’ll hit our full distribution range. It’s part of our 16oz Tall Boy series, which means it’s only available for a limited time exclusively in 16oz cans – except for a handful of 22oz bombers in Utah.

April 16, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Widmer Brothers Brewing and the Portland Timbers are the longest standing craft beer partnership in the MLS, and the beer is an exciting collaboration that will bring the thrill of the match to Timbers fans wherever they are: at Providence Park, at home, or across the Pacific Northwest.

“With fans returning to the stadium, we loved the idea of a Timbers beer that can be enjoyed watching the match at Providence Park or at home,” said Portland Timbers President of Business Mike Golub. “It’s a great beer with a name inspired by the RCTID (Rose City Til I Die) chant,” he added.

IPA ‘Til I Die is a classic West Coast-style IPA. This clean, bright IPA with bold and citrusy hops is available now in four-packs of 16-ounce cans. Fans can find those cans — designed in iconic Timbers green and gold hues, an homage to the players’ jerseys — at stores throughout the Pacific Northwest during the Portland Timbers’ season.

To launch the beer in grand fashion, the Portland Timbers and Widmer Brothers are teaming up to give away deluxe at-home Timbers-Widmer watch kits to 11 lucky fans. Over the first two weeks of April, Widmer Brothers will post details to their social media channels for fans to enter to win one of the 11 at-home watch kits, and one lucky winner will get a grand prize delivered to their home by none other than Timber Joey.

“With limited capacity to kick-off the MLS season, we wanted to bring the stadium experience to people’s homes,” said Jake Neilson, Widmer Brothers Brand Manager. “These at-home watch kits will be a fun, unique way to introduce IPA ‘Til I Die and allow fans to enjoy the match wherever they may be.”

About IPA ‘Til I Die

Brewed to celebrate the Portland Timbers, IPA ‘Til I Die is an homage to the Green & Gold.
