SingleCut Releases Limited Edition IPA That May Improve Your Guitar Skills

July 2, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

SingleCutASTORIA, NY – SingleCut Beersmiths, one of Queens’ original microbreweries, announced the launch of a limited edition DDH IPA: NOTES.

NOTES IPA (7% ABV) is the apex of SingleCut’s love of music and beer. The juice drenched DDH IPA is brewed with hand selected hop buds, added in multiple stages, to give an intense tropical citrus aroma of fresh orange slices, warm sweet mango, tangy white grapes, resinous citrus rind, and a long gentle linger of tangerine.

“NOTES isn’t just a beer. It’s a beer that’ll actually teach you how to play guitar,” said Rich Buceta, founder of SingleCut. “I always say, beer is my passion, but music is my life – and Notes is a culmination of just that. So not only are you going to be able to enjoy an amazing beer, but we also designed the can to be functional. Just scan the code on the can, and in between sips, our Notes AR filter will show you how to play some of the key chords in Rock music. It’s bringing a whole new dimension to #DrinkLoud.”

The uniquely designed can label is a “made to (junior) scale” fretboard of a guitar that enables practicing finger placement for chords right on the can itself. Collector’s packages include custom canisters that fit all four 16-ounce cans ($18 MSRP) and include fully functional guitar picks.

NOTES IPA is available in select retailers throughout the New York and New Jersey region. The limited-edition special packaging canisters ($24) are exclusively available at SingleCut’s taprooms in Astoria and Clifton Park, NY.

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. Announces Third Taproom in Elk Grove, CA

July 1, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Dust Bowl BrewingELK GROVE, California – Dust Bowl Brewing Co. announced plansfor a third taproom located in Elk Grove, California. The company has chosen to expand in the resurging Old Town Historic District, about an hour north of its brewery in the Central Valley community of Turlock. The new taproom will be located at 9676 Railroad Street and is expected to open in the fall this year.

As Sacramento County’s second largest city, Elk Grove has a population of 178,000 residents. The City along with developer D & S Development have invested millions in recent years to rehabilitate the infrastructure supporting the revitalization of the Old Town area. The new taproom is located within walking distance of the City’s new open-air pavilion where farmer’s markets, food trucks and outdoor concerts are planned.

“We are excited to welcome Dust Bowl Brewing Company to Elk Grove,” said Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. “We believe they are a great fit for the historic building and the community. The City showed tremendous leadership,” the Mayor continued, “when we purchased these properties, envisioned this kind of project, partnered with D & S, and invested in the public infrastructure necessary for a project like this. Without the City’s vision and investment, we would not be here today,” she said. “Having a brewery of Dust Bowl’s stature will be a wonderful addition to the atmosphere and vibrancy we are trying to create in Elk Grove. It will be fun for locals to have another great craft brewery experience, and certainly an attraction for visitors as well.”

Estimated to be over 100 years old, the future taproom building is primarily made of exposed brick. The space was historically used as a warehouse for storing wine grapes being transported by rail in the early 1900s. Dust Bowl was drawn to the building because of its historical charm and relevance to its Dust Bowl-era brand roots. The growth and development in the area also weighed heavily in the decision to expand in Elk Grove.

The overall interior area measures just under 6,000 square feet, with approximately 3,000 square feet of customer space. The inside will offer 30 taps featuring Dust Bowl beers and seltzers, banquette and lounge seating, bar rails and some traditional bar seating. Additionally, there is an enclosed private event space that will be available for rent. It will be well appointed for special occasion bookings. There will also be several outdoor settings for patrons. The covered patio will offer comfortable couch vignettes, overhead fans for warm days and heaters for cooler weather. Communal picnic table seating, fire pits and a turf area for corn hole will extend out to the open-air section, which is surrounded by railroad tie fencing. A separate 30 tap tower will service outdoor guests. The patio and open-air space measure nearly 7,000 square feet, making it one of Elk Grove’s largest outdoor options. Televisions will be located inside and out. The décor and furnishings will resemble the brand personality established at Dust Bowl’s other taprooms in Turlock and Monterey, California. Beer fans can expect oversized images from the Dust Bowl era, mixed finishes of wood and metal, and ample seating options all working together to create a cool experience. To-go beer and retail items, such as tees, hats and glassware, will also be available.

Food will be provided by Wedo’s Kitchen, owned by Chris Tringali and Cal Leidig. The duo also owns and operates Wedo’s Tacos, the resident food truck at Dust Bowl’s Monterey Tap Depot. The menu for Elk Grove will be unique to the site offering upscale pub food, such as rotating artisan flatbreads, hot agave chicken wings, gourmet burgers and elevated tacos.

“While we had hoped to open a new taproom in 2020, those plans were put on pause while we all weathered the impact of the pandemic,” shared Brett Honore, Owner, Dust Bowl Brewing Co. “We used the time wisely to conduct further research and are excited with our decision to expand in Elk Grove. It’s in close proximity to our brewery in Turlock, which makes delivering fresh beer on a regular basis easy to execute.”

“We’ve been selling our beer in the Sacramento region through the on- and off-premise channels for nearly 10 years, so there’s already consumer awareness of our brand in the area,” commented Brett Tate, Founder/Owner, Dust Bowl Brewing Co. “When we discovered the site opportunity, we knew the building was an ideal compliment to our branding and perfectly located in an up-and-coming area. Our goal is to create a social and comfortable atmosphere to enjoy our local craft beer.”

Dust Bowl Brewing Company’s portfolio currently features 14 year-round beers and 14 specialty rotating beers, along with an ever-changing array of draft-only releases ensuring there’s always something new and interesting to explore while visiting any of Dust Bowl’s taprooms. Some of the Central Valley brewery’s most well-known brands include Hops of Wrath IPA, Therapist Imperial IPA and Taco Truck Lager. Dust Bowl Brewing Co. moved into Regional Brewery status in 2020 with a record 16,500 barrels of beer produced for the year. The brewery now ranks among the top 2.4% of craft breweries in California, the most competitive state with 958 craft breweries. Beer fans can watch for progress and updates on the new taproom on Dust Bowl’s Instagram and Facebook platforms.

Barrel House Z Celebrates 5 Years with Special Release

July 1, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

WEYMOUTH, MA – Time flies when you’re having fun brewing beer! With over a thousand brew days—and one pandemic—under its belt, Barrel House Z of Weymouth, MA is proudly celebrating five years of brewing on June 26th.

Barrel House Z was founded by Russ Heissner, a California native whose love of craft beer runs deep. In 1986, Heissner came to Boston to be the first head brewer at Harpoon. In 2015, he recruited a small team to start a new adventure in Weymouth, MA. Taproom doors opened in 2016.

The brewery began with a love of barrel-aged brewing and has grown to include a vast array of styles as well as craft hard seltzer. Heissner notes, “Our team approaches beer and hard seltzer production with the same craft-focused mindset. Exceptional ideas and ingredients are our starting point—from there, we’re guided by rigorous technique.”

Barrel House Z’s head brewer Matt Wiley met Russ Heissner in 2018 and welcomed the opportunity to join the team earlier this year. Wiley loves the respect the brewery pays to founding releases like Sunny & 79° Pilsner and Bamboozled By Hops IPA, while constantly exploring new ideas. With a weekly four-barrel release, creativity is essential. Some ideas, like Bee Kind, an Extra Pale Ale brewed with local raw honey, proved so popular that it was scaled up for distribution. Curiosity is key, Wiley explains, “We’re always on the lookout for good ideas. Everyone is encouraged to keep their eyes, ears, and palates open. When someone discovers something exciting, we jump on it.”

In addition to innovation, community is also at the core of Barrel House Z’s DNA. BHZ embraces the call to “shop local” by collaborating frequently with neighboring start-ups. From Sunday doughnuts crafted by Weymouth’s The Doughnut Bar to an ongoing coffee beer collaboration with Cohasset’s Sea Bird Coffee, local partnerships are, and will continue to be, a Barrel House Z priority.

Barrel House Z Five-Year Anniversary Details:

Special Releases

In a nod to the Barrel House Z’s barrel-aged roots, and first beer, there will be a limited 750ml. bottle release of tequila-barrel aged Sunny & 79°. (BHZ email subscribers will have first access to this special offer.) BHZ’s love of new ideas will be represented by Orange Creamsicle Crush, a small-batch sour release.
