Western Mutant West Coast Style IPA Launches Oskar Blues Brewery’s New Rotating IPA Series

January 28, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Western Mutant IPALONGMONT, Colorado – Oskar Blues Brewery announces the release of Western Mutant West Coast Style IPA (7.0% ABV), a freakishly hoppy beer that presents the latest evolution of flavors in the West Coast IPA style. Western Mutant is the first in a new series of Mutant IPAs, all of which will showcase the latest mutations in hops and hop technology from the hop-obsessed at Oskar Blues. Western Mutant West Coast Style IPA is now available nationwide on draft and in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans.

IPAs were not born in the West, but they did evolve there in the 90’s with new American hop flavors of citrus and pine. West Coast IPAs featured an invigorating bitterness and a crystal clear appearance (imagine that). These vanguard IPAs soon traveled east, conquering the whole country and evolving along the way. With Western Mutant, Oskar Blues set out to mutate IPAs back, while pushing the style forward with new, freaked-out hops. Western Mutant West Coast IPA, featuring spicy Akoya, zesty Saphir, citrusy, piney Simcoe and tropical, white-wine-like Nelson Sauvin hops, digs deep to find IPA’s roots while reaching new heights of hopped-up weirdness.

“Hops are life at OB. When your flagship is the voluminously hopped Dale’s Pale Ale, you better bring it when you’re developing a new IPA” said Juice Drapeau, senior head brewer at Oskar Blues Brewery’s Lyons, Colo. pilot brewery. “Western Mutant takes West Coast IPAs to another level with cutting-edge hop varieties taking you on an epic flavor journey with bitterness and balance.”

Western Mutant West Coast IPA is a new-school take on an old-school style. Its zesty bitterness, clarity, and flavors of grapefruit and pine will seem familiar to West Coast IPA fans, but deeper aromas of papaya, gooseberry and peach may surprise. These tropical notes are balanced with a honey-like malt sweetness that finishes clean with a clear crispness.

Change is the only constant in IPAs, so seek out the Western Mutant before it evolves again.  Find it near you via the beerfinder. New Mutant IPAs will be arriving soon.

Urban South Brewery Releases New Low Calorie Offering, Paradise Park IPA

January 27, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Urban South BreweryNEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Urban South Brewery has introduced a brand new beer to its year-round lineup: Paradise Park IPA. A hazy, juicy IPA sitting at 4% ABV and just 120 calories, Paradise Park IPA is part of Urban South’s growing Paradise Park brand family. The new lo-cal IPA will be available on draft, six-packs and 15-packs throughout Urban South’s full distribution footprint (currently Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee).

“As COVID restrictions loosen, events come back online and the world continues to open back up, we wanted to bring our consumers an approachable IPA that is easy on the wallet,” said Kyle Huling, Co-Founder of Urban South Brewery. “At this lower price point and lower ABV, Paradise Park IPA is the perfect New Orleans party beer. Whether it’s a backyard barbecue, a Mardi Gras parade or catching up with old friends, this is your go-to IPA for those days when you’re looking for a sessionable beer option that will help keep things light.”

Paradise Park IPA is an easy-drinking, budget-friendly IPA brewed with Citra and Centennial hops. Unlike many other low-calorie IPAs, Paradise Park still boasts the hazy, juicy sip expected from a well-crafted IPA without all of the calories. Urban South’s flagship Holy Roller IPA sits at 6.3% ABV and retails for $10.99 per six-pack, while Paradise Park IPA clocks in at 4% ABV and will retail for $7.99 per six-pack.

The Paradise Park brand family was designed to create a local value option in the larger, more domestic-driven categories of light lagers, hard seltzers and now, IPAs. All offerings are driven equally by quality and value, using real ingredients and providing customers with a lighter beverage option under 125 calories. Urban South plans to continue adding new varieties to the Paradise Park brand family over time.

About Urban South Brewery

Founded in 2016, Urban South Brewery inspires community and fellowship through the gospel of good beer. With deep roots in Louisiana and a new satellite location in Texas, Urban South – HTX, the award-winning brewery is making its mark in the beer industry. Creature Comforts Launches Get Comfortable 2022 and Partners with Bell’s Brewery

January 27, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Creature ComfortsATHENS, Georgia – Creature Comforts Brewing Company’s flagship community giving program, Get Comfortable, launches its 2022 season on February 8. Creature Comforts will partner with Bell’s Brewery for the 2022 Get Comfortable season. Bell’s serves as the fourth brewery partner following previous collaborators Sierra Nevada, Allagash, and Russian River. A champion of sustainability, diversity, and the arts, Bell’s made a natural fit for the brewery’s next Get Comfortable brewery partner.

In 2022, Creature Comforts will collaborate with Bell’s to brew a Cold IPA. The beer is brewed with locally grown Carolina Gold rice and features Centennial hops from Bell’s selected lots as well as Simcoe, Cascade, Strata, Amarillo, and Mosaic to create a layered hop profile that is classic and contemporary. Hoppy, crisp, and dry, the Get Comfortable Cold IPA presents a tropical, citrusy, and dank hop character with a unique balance, which is the hallmark of the Cold IPA style.?100-percent?of the profits from this release will go directly into the?Get Comfortable Fund. “It has been an absolute honor to work with this world-class brewing team and I had a blast helping bring this beer to life,” said Andy Farrell, Bell’s Brewing Innovation Manager. “This is an incredible, community-driven initiative that will have an enormous impact on so many. This style has really taken off and I am looking forward to sharing our take on it.”

With its core belief that good companies are good citizens, Creature Comforts created Get Comfortable in 2015 in order to make serving simple for its customers and business peers. The program’s mission is to channel the generosity of many toward Athens’ greatest local need, which is why, in addition to 100-percent of the profits from the collaboration beer sales, Get Comfortable merchandise also contributes to this work, as well as the contributions of local business and private foundations.

In keeping with the company’s core value of “Make It Better,” Creature Comforts undertook a new approach to its flagship philanthropic program in 2022. In preparation for this year’s program launch, Creature Comforts approached the?Get Comfortable Advisory Council?and tasked them with identifying a singular area of focus for a multi-year commitment. Under the guidance of this group, the brewery selected literacy, specifically third-grade reading proficiency, as the multi-year impact area for the Get Comfortable campaign in Athens. The program’s funded agencies will work to increase third-grade reading proficiency from 20-percent to 60-percent within the Clarke County School District.

“Literacy is more than just an educational issue,” said Matt Stevens, Creature Comforts’ Senior Director of Strategic Impact. “Studies show that the prevalence of early literacy has either positive or negative long-term effects: contributing to increased employment and economic development on the one hand, or predictive of poverty and incarceration on the other. While Get Comfortable has historically focused its efforts on local relief programs, our Advisory Council and focus group this year encouraged us to shift our energies further upstream—to development and prevention initiatives—in the hopes that an earlier, hyper-focused intervention would produce more lasting effects.”

The 2022 Get Comfortable season kicks off with a panel discussion hosted by UGA’s Willson Center?featuring Creature Comforts and Bell’s on February 8 at 3:30 PM at??UGA’s Delta Innovation Hub. Immediately following the panel, Creature Comforts will host a launch celebration in its downtown Athens taproom at 5:00 PM. Additionally, on February 19 at 2:00 PM as a part of the Songs for Humans event at the brewery’s taproom, Creature Comforts VP of Culture, Fenwick Broyard, will host a series of introductory up-close-and-personal interviews with the Executive Directors of the 2022 Get Comfortable agency partners.

About Creature Comforts Brewing Company

Since opening its doors in April 2014, Creature Comforts has aspired to foster human connection and help people navigate the beautiful, complex world of craft beer. The brewery has made an imprint in the craft beer community for its award-winning year-round and limited release beers, as well as for its commitment to local communities through its Get Comfortable programs. The company is a certified B Corporation and will open a brewery and taproom in Los Angeles in 2022.

About Bell’s Brewery

Bell’s Brewery began in 1985 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with Larry Bell, a quest for better beer and a 15-gallon soup kettle. Since then, Bell’s has grown into one of the largest craft breweries in America, distributing to 43 states, in addition to Puerto Rico and Washington DC. The dedication to brewing flavorful, unfiltered, quality craft beers that started when Larry was a homebrewer continues today with iconic brands such as Oberon Ale and Two Hearted Ale, as well as Light Hearted Ale and Official Hazy IPA. Bell’s currently brews more than 20 beers for distribution out of its Comstock brewery as well as many small-batch beers that are served at the Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo. Over the years, Bell’s has become an industry leader in safety, quality, and human resources, paving the way for the hundreds of craft breweries across Michigan. Bell’s ongoing goal is to brew thoughtful, creative, and artistic ales, and strives to make craft beer welcoming and open to all.

Indeed Brewing Company Partners with Hohenstein’s to Distribute Beer in Twin Cities

January 26, 2022 by Mike Curme

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – Indeed Brewing Company is excited to announce its partnership with Hohenstein’s as its distribution partner in the Twin Cities metropolitan area of Minnesota.

Since 2012, Indeed Brewing has self-distributed its beer in the Twin Cities area; it has grown to be one of the largest self-distributing craft breweries in the country. As Indeed approaches its 10th year of business, the timing is right to transition its Twin Cities distribution to Hohenstein’s—a family-owned, independent business with a focus on craft beer.

“We are very proud of what we have built over the past 10 years. We sold and delivered more than 1 million cases of beer in the Twin Cities since we made our first delivery in August 2012. Each of those cases have been building blocks in the positive relationships we have with local retailers and the positive experiences consumers have come to expect when they buy Indeed beer,” says Tom Whisenand, Co-Founder and CEO, Indeed Brewing Company. “We’ve believed for a very long time that there would be no better distribution partner for Indeed in the Twin Cities than Hohenstein’s. This partnership will enable us to do even more for our retailers, customers, and community.”

Indeed embarks on this transition with a keen eye toward the future and innovation of its products with a renewed focus on what it hopes to do best: positively impact communities with quality beers, people, and experiences. It will retain a sales team to support its brand in the Twin Cities. Future plans include an increased capacity and quality in brewing and packaging and improved taproom spaces.

“We’re very excited about this partnership with Indeed. Their brands have been part of the fabric of the Twin Cities’s craft beer scene since they started brewing back in 2012,” says Karl Hohenstein, Owner, Hohenstein’s. “We’ve been distributing beers for over 70 years now, and Indeed is the perfect fit for what we look for in a brewing partner.”

Hohenstein’s began distributing Indeed beer on January 17, 2022. It will sell Indeed beer alongside other respected craft breweries in its portfolio, including Fulton Brewing, Bell’s Brewery, and Lagunitas Brewing Company.

About Indeed Brewing Company

At Indeed Brewing Company, we’re cultivating an artfully eclectic line-up of beers from the heart of Northeast Minneapolis and our new home in the Walker’s Point neighborhood of Milwaukee. Indeed’s diverse offerings are anchored by its flagship Day Tripper Pale Ale, driven by new hits like Flavorwave IPA and Pistachio Cream Ale, and elevated by its series of wild barrel-aged beer. Well-known as an engaged and community-oriented brewery, Indeed’s taprooms are warm, welcoming, and home to Indeed We Can, the company’s employee-driven charitable giving program, which donates 100% of taproom net profits to an employee-sponsored local nonprofit every Wednesday of the year. Indeed believes innovation isn’t just one thing—it’s a culture created around good people, good beers, and good experiences. Join them in the pursuit of what’s good.

About Hohenstein’s

Mighty Swell Pays Tribute To Its Austin Roots With The Launch Of Its Keep It Weird Line

January 26, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Mighty Swell

AUSTIN, Texas – Mighty Swell, the award-winning spiked seltzer brand that packs a juicy punch of natural flavor, is announcing the launch of its new Keep It Weird Variety Pack. The collection is the third variety pack from the nation’s #1 selling independent hard seltzer brand and features twelve 12-ounce, 100 calorie cans with 5% ABV and just three grams of carbs.

We’ve pushed the concept of what a seltzer can be, and I’m excited to continue to explore the space that we have opened.

he Keep It Weird Variety Pack pays tribute to the brand’s Austin heritage – a city known for its quirky personality and “Keep Austin Weird” slogan – and will feature packaging designed by local Austin artist Rex Hamilton. The collection will debut four unexpected flavors including:

Tiger’s Blood: Wild, weird, and a bit defiant. Brace yourself for an untamed fusion of all-natural strawberry, watermelon, and coconut. No tigers were harmed in the making of this beverage.

Rocket Pop: First astronauts, then billionaires, now our spiked seltzers are going to space. All-natural raspberry, pomegranate, and lime give this one small sip, one giant leap of taste.

Pink Colada: You don’t need a yacht to rock the boat. Find your own strange paradise with our natural riff on a juicy classic, where the pineapples dare to be pink and the coconuts set sail at midnight.

Purple Magic: Purple, mysterious, and multidimensional. Sip into a portal swirling with dark boysenberries, wild blueberries and juicy grapeness. In this reality, grape is a color and purple is a vibe.

“While we had been making award-winning hard seltzer for years, we had not pushed our limits in terms of unique flavor innovation. Keep it Weird is our response to an increasingly derivative category saturated with tea, lemonade, and now – margaritas. I asked our team to make what they wanted to drink, so long as no one else was making it. We collectively evolved the concept into something the whole team was enthusiastic about. Keep it Weird represents our culture.” said CEO Jeana Harrington.

“There’s no future in redundancy in the seltzer innovation cycle; either you are the trend, or it has already been done. With the appointment of our new CEO, we had leadership that believed in the Keep it Weird vision. We’ve pushed the concept of what a seltzer can be, and I’m excited to continue to explore the space that we have opened up.” said Mighty Swell Director of Brewing & Innovation, Andrea Clodfelter.

As part of the launch, Mighty Swell will roll out a new campaign including digital and out-of-home media in select markets. The release will also include a mural designed by Rex Hamilton overlooking I-35 in Austin being painted this February and an official launch party in March. The new collection hits store shelves on March 1st with a suggested retail price of $15.99 and will be available in 27 states at select retailers such as Kroger, H-E-B, Walgreens, COSTCO, Total Wine & More, Circle K and more.

Warped Wing Brewing Company to Release Collaboration Beer with Killer Brownie

January 25, 2022 by Dow Scoggins

Warped Wing Brewing's Killer Brownie Brown AleDAYTON, Ohio – Your shortcut to Deliciousville is now within reach. Introducing Killer Brownie® Brown Ale. A culinary meld of craft goodness. You will get aromas of deep, rich chocolate up front. Followed up with sips of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and molasses. It’s like a brownie in liquid form. And it’s killer.

The Killer Brownie Company is owned and operated by the same family as Dorothy Lane Market. What started as one unforgettable fudge-y, gooey, double-layered brownie nestled with pecans and velvety caramel—The Original—has grown into a robust offering of gourmet brownie flavors, including seasonal additions.

“Killer Brownie is a Dayton staple and we’ve always wanted to partner with them on a beer.” said Nick Bowman, VP/Sales & Marketing and Managing Partner at Warped Wing. “This project has been a few years in the making but here we are and I’m excited to bring forth into the world our liquid version of the famous Killer Brownie!”, said Bowman.

“The folks at Warped Wing are true masters of their craft.” said Jessica Uttinger, Director of Marketing and Creative Services at Killer Brownie®. “When we began discussing a collaboration in 2019, it was immediately clear—they would create a brew that mirrors the decadence Killer Brownie® is known for. Their commitment to quality is matched only by their love of community, which made them ideal partners to work with. Gathering people together to share joyful moments over food and drink is something they’ve long been known for, and it’s an honor to have the Killer Brownie® name on one of their cans.” said Uttinger. Killer Brownie Brown Ale will launch in the Dayton & Springboro Taprooms on Thursday, February 3rd – just ahead of Valentine’s Day. It will also be available at Warped Wing’s new Taproom location opening on Friday, February 4th in Mason, OH. The beer will be available on draught for on-site consumption and in 6-pack 12 oz. cans to go. Custom branded glasses will be available for purchase in the Warped Wing Taprooms (while supplies last) to make for an unforgettable and commemorative experience.
