Indeed Brewing Company Releases Giant for a Day Double IPA

February 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Indeed Brewing MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – Indeed Brewing Company is introducing a new core beer to its lineup. Giant for a Day Double IPA is a limited release that will be available in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin in March and April.

In beer years, a double IPA is ancient. Older, wiser, and, dare we say, better, Giant for a Day Double IPA dips into the rosy depths of nostalgia to create a familiar, friendly beast of a beer— one to sip on while making tall tales even taller. Drawing from the magnificence of the mighty redwoods, which grow at a slow and stately pace but are constantly in upward motion, GFAD taps into the roots of craft brewing while launching us forward.

“When we first began talking about making a Double IPA, we all started reminiscing about the first time we tried our favorite DIPAs—Hopslam, Abrasive, Enjoy By, Pliny the Elder—and how much the DIPA nostalgia mirrored the time which we first fell in love with craft beer. I think a lot of us have moved to drinking more Pilsner and Pale Ales, but we got excited about making a DIPA again,” says Ryan Bandy, Sales Director, Indeed Brewing Company. “Giant for a Day is West Coast in style—bright and bitter, loaded with one of our favorite old-school hops (Simcoe) combined with a massive dry hop of new-school hops that we’ve been digging (Lotus and Idaho 7). We hope you grab a six-pack and reminisce about craft beer memories while drinking a fresh DIPA.”

Giant for a Day features artwork by local Minneapolis artist Chuck U. “We wanted the brand and can art to lend itself to how ‘big’ of a beer was inside all while being inviting and evoking charm and nostalgia at the same time,” says Andy Kiekhafer, Creative Director, Indeed Brewing Company. “Giant for a Day double IPA is our uplifting, friendly, reminder that life’s big moments are what matter most.”

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Debuts Fresh Rebrand, New Hazy IPA

February 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Debuts Fresh Rebrand, New Hazy IPABUELTON, California – For over 11 years, Figueroa Mountain Brewing has crafted world-class beers for drinkers throughout the Central Coast and beyond. Now, they’re kicking off 2022 with a fresh new redesign of their brand, and celebrating with a couple of new beer additions to their portfolio, including the much anticipated Hiker’s High Hazy IPA.

The brand redesign represents an evolution of Figueroa Mountain’s image to better highlight the graphic, art-driven style that has powered the brand and the beer since 2010. The team has once again partnered with the artists at Blindtiger Design to feature the icons of the Central Coast that make it feel like home.

Working with Blindtiger was important for the Fig team, as the two groups have collaborated since Jim and Jaime Dietenhofer started conceiving of the Buellton-based brewery. The father-son duo connected with Creative Director Oceania Eagan and her mother Laura Eagan to craft a visual identity for the brand, which included the hand-drawn art which graces their four taprooms throughout Southern California. Blindtiger’s work has been present on the beer packaging ever since, and with this new iteration the younger of each duo wanted to pay tribute to the history they’ve created with their parents while bringing the brand forward into a new era for Figueroa Mountain.

“It was important for us to show our Fig Fam that although our look has been updated, our values haven’t changed,” says Jaime Dietenhofer, Founder of Figueroa Mountain Brewery, “we’re still evolving, still pushing forward, and still independent.”

The bold new art includes references to local features that will connect drinkers to the region that gave birth to the beer, including the classic fruit crates that made the Central Coast famous 100 years ago, the California poppies that have become emblematic of the state, and the landmarks of Point Conception and Lizard’s Mouth that have helped local hikers build up a thirst for so many years.

And speaking of hikers, the most exciting new addition to the lineup is Hiker’s High Hazy IPA – a bright and tropical IPA that’s as hazy as those foggy mornings at the top of your favorite peak. The new 6.8% beer is now available in 6-packs of 12oz cans throughout the state, as well as at the Fig taprooms in Buellton, Los Olivos, Santa Barbara, and Westlake Village. It will join Lizard’s Mouth Imperial IPA, Point Conception California IPA, and the three-time GABF winning Hoppy Poppy IPA into the core lineup of canned styles.

Also being added to the lineup is a new variety pack of Santa Barbara shandies featuring local fruit, stemming from the success of Santa Barbara Citrus. The orange-tangerine shandy will be featured in a 12-pack of 12oz cans with new Watermelon, Mango Lemonade, and Hibiscus Lime flavors that are perfect  for those Santa Barbara summers.

With the new branding and the additions to the lineup, the Fig Fam is excited for what 2022 has in store, including expanded distribution throughout LA county and the much anticipated return of the Lagerville festival on April 9th at the Buellton taproom.

About Figueroa Mountain Brewing
Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. was founded in 2010 by father and son team Jim and Jamie Dietenhofer. Through their passion for craft beer, they’ve sought to share the beauty and the spirit of the Santa Ynez Valley with beer lovers throughout the state. Their beer can be found in bars, restaurants, and grocery stores throughout California, as well as in their taprooms throughout the region.

About Blindtiger Design
Blindtiger Design is a Seattle-based creative, strategy & marketing agency specializing in the unique needs of the craft beer industry. After more than a decade in the on-premise side of the industry with Taphandles, Oceania Eagan founded Blindtiger in 2013 to further meet the full scope of breweries’ needs. Blindtiger has provided branding, packaging design, strategy, and sales and marketing support for hundreds of breweries.

A Mesmerizing Mouthful: Firestone Walker Introduces Hopnosis IPA

February 22, 2022 by Dow Scoggins

Hopnosis IPAPaso Robles, California  – Firestone Walker today introduced Hopnosis IPA—the culmination of the brewery’s 15-year quest to master the West Coast IPA style. Brewed with Mosaic Cryo Hops®, Hopnosis is a seamless, aromatic, and explosively tropical IPA. Hopnosis represents everything we’ve learned about hopping techniques over the years, all rolled into one beer,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “This is our ultimate new-school expression of the West Coast IPA.” Hopnosis is now rolling out to all Firestone Walker markets in 6-pack and 12-pack (12-ounce) cans; 19.2-ounce cans; and on draft.

Cryo Hops® Magic
The Firestone Walker brewing team has developed an arsenal of favorite new-age hops for IPA—all of which are featured in Hopnosis. These include hops from New Zealand and the Pacific Northwest, with a focus on Mosaic Cryo Hops® as well as Idaho 7 and Nelson.

Cryo Hops® are made by collecting the concentrated lupulin from whole-leaf hops, which contains the pure resins for bitterness and aromatic oils. “Mosaic Cryo Hops® are the centerpiece of Hopnosis,” Brynildson said. “They provide intense hop aroma and flavor with incredible integration, enabling us to make a hop-forward beer that is low in bitterness, super smooth, and delicious.”

Hopnosis is extravagantly double dry hopped, with nearly five pounds of hops used for every barrel brewed. The resulting beer is loaded with hop-derived flavors of mango, passionfruit, white grape, and lychee. The ABV of Hopnosis is 6.7 percent, providing an excellent balance of flavor and texture.

West Coast Wonder
The origins of Hopnosis date back to Firestone Walker’s original West Coast IPA—Union Jack, which was introduced in 2007. Hopnosis also reflects concepts learned while developing the Luponic Distortion revolving IPA series and the Mind Haze family of IPAs. Finally, it draws inspiration from numerous brewing collaborations here and abroad.

These experiences have yielded a variety of hop integration techniques that Brynildson and his team brought to bear in creating Hopnosis.

“This is where the West Coast style is headed,” Brynildson said. “Aromatic hops and new hopping techniques are driving the future. On top of that, Cryo Hops® are opening up fresh possibilities. Now you can get all of the ‘oomph’ of hop saturation that you want from a West Coast IPA, but with less of that classic bitterness, more of these new-age hop flavors, and a whole new level of balance and drinkability.”

Firestone Walker Brewing Company
Founded by brothers-in-law Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a California beer company with three innovative brewing facilities. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. Firestone Walker is also the brewery behind 805, one of the nation’s fastest-growing beers. Firestone Walker was recently named “Best American Brewery of the Decade” by Paste Magazine.

Schlafly Beer Releases 30th Anniversary Mixed 12-Pack

February 22, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Schlafly BeerST. LOUIS, Missouri – Schlafly the original, independent craft brewery in St. Louis, announces the release of its new 30th anniversary sampler, Reelin’ in the Beers. The mixed 12-Pack has a line-up of fan favorite brews that represent the past, present and future of the acclaimed craft brewery: Pale Ale, the original Schlafly flagship beer; Kölsch, Schlafly’s World Beer Cup Gold Medal Beer; Just A Bit Hazy IPA, the brewery’s newest rising star–a year-round style that always sways hazy; and Low Cal IPA, a beer in a growing category of low ABV and low calorie. The pack also showcases Schlafly’s continuous focus on branding with two new can designs for both Kölsch and Low Cal IPA. The pack is the first opportunity to see the new design for the two styles. The 30th anniversary sampler pack is now available across the Schlafly distribution.

“We’re celebrating 30 years of brewing great beer in St. Louis, and the Reelin’ in the Beers mixed 12-pack represents our legacy and our future,” says CEO Fran Caradonna. “We get to appreciate our history while also looking forward to the incredible things to come in the future with this variety pack. Plus, this is a great way to welcome the can sampler back to our portfolio this year!”

The Reelin’ in the Beers mixed 12-pack features three cans of each of the four styles showcased, including:

Pale Ale (4.4% ABV): The original Schlafly flagship beer is a traditional English-inspired mildly-spiced session ale with a hint of fruitiness and a refined balance of hops and malt. An approachable classic.

Kölsch (4.8% ABV): This crisp, slightly dry and subtly malty brew has the delicate fruity aroma of an ale with the clean finish of a lager. Brewed with German Noble Hops for bitterness, this brew is the proud winner of the Gold Medal for Best German-style Kölsch at the World Beer Cup.

Just a Bit Hazy IPA (5% ABV): The brewery’s newest rising star combines a blend of hops for an IPA that’s packed with flavor but not too over-the-top. It accentuates the juicy flavors of the hops while staying refreshing and approachable with just a bit of haze.

Low Cal IPA (4% ABV): This is a lighter, juicy hop flavored IPA that only skimps out on the calories. IPA enthusiasts can enjoy the flavor profiles of the classic beer style while remaining low in calories and ABV.

Schlafly’s Reelin’ in the Beers Mixed 12-Pack can be purchased at Schlafly brewpubs (Schlafly Tap Room in downtown St. Louis, Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, Missouri, Schlafly Bankside in St. Charles, Missouri or Schlafly Highland Square in Highland, Illinois) or across the brewery’s distribution for $17.99. Ecliptic Brewing to Release Collaboration Beer with Reuben’s Brews

February 21, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Ecliptic BrewingPortland, Oregon. Earth. —  Portland’s Ecliptic Brewing has partnered with Seattle’s Reuben’s Brews to collaborate on a beer, launching at the end of February. Ecliptic + Reuben’s CRI-STAR IPA is a mashup of Ecliptic Starburst IPA and Rueben’s Crikey IPA, as part of Ecliptic’s Cosmic Collaboration Series, coming in 16-ounce can four-packs and draft.

Ecliptic Starburst IPA is the company’s flagship IPA, while Crikey IPA is Reuben’s first-ever American IPA, and also their flagship. Cri-Star IPA – whose name plays on the two original beer names – features Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, Azacca, Centennial, and Citra hops. Tropical notes, along with citrus and pine, round out this 6.8% brew.

Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris, says, “We have had a lot of fun with this beer. When Adam (Reuben’s Co-Owner) and I were brainstorming ideas, we thought, why not celebrate our two most popular beers? And we started working out a recipe for a mashup of the two.” Ecliptic’s design agency, Sasquatch, worked up an out-of-this-world label for the beer, too, which features astronauts covered in green octopus tentacles, drawing inspiration from Reuben’s fun mural artwork featured at their taprooms and on their website.

Ecliptic + Reuben’s Cri-Star IPA will be released on February 23rd in both draft and 16-ounce cans throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network. A release event is planned for March 8th at Reuben’s Taproom in Seattle, as well as in Portland at both of Ecliptic’s locations on March 16th. Visit Ecliptic’s website or Facebook page for up-to-date details on these events.

About Ecliptic + Reuben’s Cri-Star IPA
What’s a Cri-Star IPA you ask? Well it’s an IPA that mashes up the best parts of our friend’s Rueben’s Brews Crikey IPA and our own Starburst IPA- both of which happen to feature a similar blend of hops. The result is a tropically floral IPA with notes of citrus and pine.

ABV: 6.8%
IBU: 55
