4 Hands Brewing’s Madagascar to Release February 12

February 11, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

4 Hands BrewingST. LOUIS, Missouri – 4 Hands Brewing Co, has announced that its 2022 Madagascar release will be available for public sale beginning on February 12 at 10AM exclusively through an online pre-sale.

Madagascar, their most highly coveted barrel-aged release, is an inky black, sticky imperial milk stout aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels with whole Madagascar vanilla beans.

In discussing the origin and tradition of Madagascar, Kevin Lemp, 4 Hands Brewing Co. founder, said, “Brewed since 2014, the original Madagascar release was a small batch, single barrel collaboration with Schnucks Markets Des Peres to celebrate their 75th anniversary. The process that we used in 2014 for that release is still used today. We source the very best vanilla in the world and hand cut every bean to maximize the intense flavor imparted by the Madagascar vanilla.”

4 Hands will also offer six variants of the Madagascar release for purchase, including the fifth installment of 4 Hands’ Double Barrel series – Madagascar aged in Withered Oak orange bitters barrels. Withered Oak is 4 Hands Brewing Company’s new thoughtful and innovative line of oak-aged spirits that are artfully blended, uniquely finished and bottled with care within their brewery. Madagascar variants that will be available include re-releases of Madagascar Cobbler, Madagascar Tahitian and Madagascar Triple Chocolate (available in 22oz bottles and 16oz cans for the first time) as well as brand new releases for 2022 including Madagascar Blueberry Maple and Madagascar Echo Base Coffee in collaboration with Sump Coffee.

Due to high demand for Madagascar and its variants, all releases have per person limits that will be strictly enforced. “Pickups will be scheduled across four days, February 17 through February 20, and each day will see variants added to the draft lineup when the tasting room opens exclusively to Madagascar release ticket holders at 10am,” said Chris Trunk, 4 Hands Brewing’s hospitality director.

About Pizza Port Brewing Company

In March of 1987 Gina and Vince Marsaglia, a pair of siblings in their 20′s, bought a struggling pizza place in the sleepy coastal town of Solana Beach, just north of San Diego. Early on, Vince took advantage of free space in the restaurant’s storage area to dabble with home brewing. The hobby took off and at the urging of friends and fans, Vince and Gina decided to go into the brewpub business. Pizza Port offered its first craft-brewed beers to patrons in 1992 and quickly gained a reputation in San Diego’s growing craft beer scene. Following their success at the Solana Beach location the company has been steadily expanding. Location #2 opened in 1997 in Carlsbad. Location #3 opened in 2003 in San Clemente. In 2008 a premium bottle shop was added adjacent to the Carlsbad location, which offers hundreds of options from other breweries in the craft beer community. Pizza Port location #4 opened in 2010 in Ocean Beach. And, most recently, location #5 opened in 2013 in the Bressi Ranch community of Carlsbad and introduced a canning line to allow Pizza Port beers to find their home on store shelves across San Diego County!

Firestone Walker Releases Parabola Barrel-Aged Stout Includes Limited “Paraboloid” Spinoff

February 10, 2022 by Dow Scoggins

Firestone Walker Parabola Barrel-Aged Stout and Paraboloid
Paso Robles, California
–Firestone Walker’s iconic Parabola barrel-aged stout is back with a few new twists for 2022, including a new limited “Paraboloid” spinoff.

Parabola: Vintage 2022
The story begins with the latest vintage of Parabola, which was aged for a year in 12-year-old Heaven Hill bourbon barrels for the first time ever.

“Historically, we’ve aged Parabola in six to eight-year-old bourbon barrels, but this time we seized the opportunity to age it in older barrels,” said Barrel Program Manager Eric Ponce. “It adds a new dimension to what people have come to know and love about Parabola.”

According to Ponce, the older-stock barrels accentuated Parabola’s signature flavors of black cherry, dark chocolate and vanilla with vintage-specific notes of stone fruit, fudge and tobacco. “You get extra layers of complexity that make the drinking experience all the more edifying,” Ponce said.

Parabola 2022 is rolling out to all Firestone Walker markets in individually boxed 12-ounce bottles, and is available at all Firestone Walker locations and online at FirestoneBeer.com.

Introducing Paraboloid
This year, Parabola is joined by Paraboloid, a limited small-batch spinoff aged in an equal selection of rare older-stock barrels from premium spirits producers—specifically 14-year-old Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrels and 18-year-old Sazerac rye whiskey barrels.

These barrels complemented Parabola’s classic flavor profile by imparting hints of stone fruits, fudge, leather and peppery spice. Additionally, the beer was aged for a full two years prior to blending and bottling.

“The extra year of aging allowed all of the flavors to meld and create an incredibly smooth, mellow and prodigiously flavorful beer,” Ponce said.

Paraboloid is available at all Firestone Walker locations and online at FirestoneBeer.com.

Firestone Walker Brewing Company
Founded by brothers-in-law Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a California beer company with three innovative brewing facilities. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. Firestone Walker is also the brewery behind 805, one of the nation’s fastest-growing beers. Firestone Walker was recently named “Best American Brewery of the Decade” by Paste Magazine.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company Announces 2022 Release Calendar

February 10, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Anderson ValleyBOONVILLE, California – Celebrating its 35th year anniversary, Anderson Valley Brewing Company’s (AVBC) 2022 beer release calendar features a mix of the brewery’s beloved “beer flavored beer” offerings such as Boont Amber Ale, Boonville Gold, and Summer Solstice, as well as brand new products including the Rotational IPA series, a draft-only Peach Gose, and the Gose Variety Pack.

What’s New in 2022 From AVBC

New IPA Rotational Series – First to debut, the Crisp IPA

AVBC is proud to present the new fresh batches of IPA flavored IPA. If you’re new to AVBC you might be surprised to learn that we were once on the leading edge of crafting West Coast IPAs. We love drinking IPAs and our brewers love making them, so we thought it was the perfect time to introduce a new line up. All of the new IPAs have been informed by AVBC’s brewing history and reflect countless beers that have been tested and vetted at the Tap Room.  Each IPA features a new recipe and will be released on a rotating basis with the seasons.

Crisp IPA bright and snappy with a healthy touch of hops and works with the cold part of the season when the frost first starts to bite. (now available)

Double IPA in features a bigger helping of hops and a full fresh profile that’s bursting with life and ready to pair with the arrival of warmer weather in the spring. (April release)

Juicy Session IPA (July release) is a beer that you’ll keep coming back to again, and again…and again. Made for a laid back late summer day it won’t fill you up and pairs with sandy board shorts and picnics.  (July release)

West Coast IPA (October release) has come to define the contemporary IPA genre. From its classic hop profile and modern flavors it’ll warm you up as the temperatures start to dip in the fall. (October release)

Peach Gose – Draft Beer Offering

AVBC’s new Peach Gose is the latest in its catalog of Goses and has become a fast favorite. There are few things that make more sense than Peach Gose – the soft, juicy stone-fruit flavors are perfectly lifted by the tartness of the Gose souring and the combination is pure magic. It’s easy drinking, light, refreshing and full of flavor. Considering Brewmaster Fal Allen literally wrote the book on Gose and AVBC is widely credited for making Gose a “thing,” it’s surprising that it took so long to brew one. Aside from an obvious pairing with peach cobbler, pour alongside a triple-cream Brie, serve it in a snifter with grilled halibut, or pair a pint with shrimp scampi, fish and chips or crab cakes because anything from the briny depths #goeswithgose.

A Variation for Spring – The Gose Variety Pack

The Gose Variety 12-Pack features three cans each of Briney Melon Gose, Cherry Gose, Framboise Rose Gose, and Blood Orange Gose. It’s hard to decide which gose to grab when they are all full of deliciousness. Well, now you don’t have to decide. Our classic fruit brewed gose are now available in a variety pack, letting you enjoy them all!

Hi-Wire Brewing Announces Plans for Birmingham, Alabama Location

February 9, 2022 by Dow Scoggins

Hi-Wire Brewing Announces Plans for Birmingham ASHEVILLE, North Carolina — Hi-Wire Brewing has named Birmingham, Alabama, as the location of the previously teased third taproom that the Asheville-based brewery will open in 2022.

The brewer’s first Alabama taproom, set to open in late summer, will join Hi-Wire’s roster of soon-to-be ten taprooms. With expansions underway at both its Biltmore Village Production and South Slope Specialty breweries in Asheville, two additional locations are scheduled to open this year – Charlotte, N.C., in the spring and Cincinnati near the end of 2022. Alabama marks the fourth state in which the award-winning brewery will have premises with six facilities in Hi-Wire’s home state of North Carolina along with out-of-state taprooms in Knoxville, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, and soon-to-be Cincinnati, Ohio. Hi-Wire Brewing has opened three new locations since December of 2020 in addition to expanding its distribution footprint to a ninth state, Virginia.

“Not at all,” said Hi-Wire Brewing co-owner, Chris Frosaker, when asked if he expected the company to expand so much when it first opened in 2013. “We’ve opened three taprooms since the start of the pandemic, and even despite those challenges, they’ve been really great for the brand,” Frosaker continued, “so we saw the opportunity in 2022 to double down and accelerate our taproom growth.”

Frosaker expressed that the decision to expand to Birmingham was spurred by the brewery’s “great relationship” with wholesaler, Alabama Crown, as well as an appreciation for the city and its exploding food and beverage scene. “Alabama is already a high-growth market for us, so we see a lot of potential to really keep it going,” Frosaker said. “Plus the city really is just blossoming, and we want to be part of it.”

Hi-Wire Brewing Birmingham will be the anchor tenant of the brand new mixed-use development Lakeview Green in the city’s Lakeview District – a vibrant, historic neighborhood full of dining and nightlife. Right across the street from Birmingham’s revered Automatic Seafood and Oysters, Lakeview Green’s more than one hundred apartments began leasing in July 2021, and beginning with the Hi-Wire taproom, restaurants and other upscale retail merchants will soon fill the property’s remaining retail space. Just one block up 29th Street from Lakeview Green is the well-curated retail and restaurant hub of Pepper Place, and a block west is TrimTab Brewing.

The Lakeview Green campus was engineered for sustainability and community access by LEED-accredited architect Tammy Cohen, president of CCR Architecture & Interiors, who will also be the architect for Hi-Wire’s taproom. The 8887-square-foot taproom will occupy one corner of the building enclosed by very efficient “low-emissivity” glass windows on three sides. Nestled within a residential oasis featuring a lazy river, koi pond, and green space with firepits, games like chess and bocce ball, and an herb garden, Hi-Wire Brewing Birmingham’s outdoor seating will open up into the green space by the stream.

Located on both a bike and city bus route as well as boasting ample parking, the taproom and the adjacent green space will be easily accessible from downtown for visitors and property residents alike. “The green space was designed for the neighborhood and the community – not just for people that live in the apartments,” said the architect of Lakeview Green, Tammy Cohen. “I think it’s just a perfect location to have the Hi-Wire taproom in a place where you can walk across the street to get some oysters at Automatic or go to the tequila bar for some tacos then come back for a beer and to hangout,” Cohen added.

Hi-Wire’s Alabama taproom will be no different from the brewery’s other locations in its mission to cultivate community and inspire fun. Frosaker said, “Our Louisville taproom was our first brand new mixed-use development building, and through it, we learned that we can make a new building feel warm and cozy.” Featuring a twenty-four tap bar, a mix of Hi-Wire’s own year-rounds, seasonals, specialties, sour and wild ales, one-offs, and undistributed releases will fill twenty-one taps while the remaining three taps will pour hard cider as well as red and white wine. The taproom, much like the beer, will be approachable and made for good times with friends. “It’ll be very bright with lots of artwork, lots of neon, and tons of communal seating with space for over 300 people,” according to Frosaker. An assortment of family-friendly games will round out the space, including soccer pool, table tennis, and foosball.

Hi-Wire has partnered with Birmingham’s CCR Architecture & Interiors for the design of the taproom. Formal announcements in regards to construction, hiring, and an official opening date will be released via Hi-Wire’s website and social media channels. For the most up-to-date information, visit hiwirebrewing.com

pFriem Family Brewers to Transition Seasonal & Limited 500ml Bottled Beers to 16 oz. Cans

February 9, 2022 by Dow Scoggins

pFriem Family Brewers HOOD RIVER, Oregon – Award winning pFriem Family Brewers officially announced that they will transition seasonal & limited 500ml bottled beers to 16oz/4pack cans. The brewery will roll out the new package starting with their Spring Seasonal and Limited Classics beginning in March and will distribute throughout Oregon and Washington. The core line-up of Pilsner, IPA, and Hazy IPA will remain in single serve 500ml bottles through late 2022 and 12oz/6pack cans beyond that.

“We are incredibly excited to bring our diverse line up of limited and seasonal beers into 16oz/4packs of cans! These beers, whether a Lager or hop forward ale, are meant for casual drinking occasions and now will be easier to bring on your outdoor adventure, backyard hangout, or to your kitchen counter!” Josh Pfriem, Brewmaster/Co-Founder of pFriem Family Brewers.

Like many of pFriem’s creations, their 16oz can package is unique to the craft beer market.

“It was important to us that we translate the elegance and premium quality of our 500ml bottles to the branding on the 16oz cans. Though labeling the beers was logistically necessary due to the vast variety of styles we produce, we weren’t happy with other label examples out in the market. Just as we did with our 3 label, 500ml bottles back in 2015, we sought out an innovative look. The result was a smaller label wrap on a single printed matte black can. Fans will be able to easily identify their favorite pFriem beer with the bold pFriem badge as well as some new PNW inspired artwork on the can.”

pFriem has spent the last two years upgrading its facility and enhancing its infrastructure to make way for canning at larger volumes.

“Similar to what we did with the purchase and commissioning of our new GEA Craftstar 50 Hectoliter brewhouse, our goal was to increase throughput, boost efficiency, and most importantly to take our can beer quality to the next level.” said Josh Pfriem.

In order to achieve this, pFriem selected the Krones and Kosme Group’s 16 fill-valve Canto filler with a 4 head Krones seamer.

“Krones is a world class manufacturer of packing equipment. They are known for achieving some of the lowest oxygen pickups, consistent fills, and providing innovative filling technology,” explains Josh Pfriem. “What this means to the beer drinker is that pFriem continues to invest in quality in every form possible. This makes sure our canned beer has the highest integrity and the longest shelf life possible. It is still important to drink fresh beer that is stored cold, but our new canning line will keep that canned beer’s flavor and aroma as close as possible to the day it was packaged in the can.”

pFriem Lager Seasonals will retail at $2.99 16oz single serve can or $11.99 4-pack. pFriem IPA and Pale Seasonals as well as other Classic Limited will retail at $3.49 16oz single serve can or $13.99 4-pack.

Enigma hops take center stage within this hoppy brew, complete with hints of berry and stone fruit aromas. Paired with Cashmere’s fruity overtones and hints of citrus and coconut accents from Sabro hops, this juicy IPA is ready for the next beach run of your own!

“We’re stoked to partner with our pals at Pizza Port Brewing Company to release this hop forward West Coast-style IPA,” states Ryan Crisp, Head Brewer at AleSmith. “Teaming up with a brewery that shares our passion for hops always makes for a fun and exciting experience,” Crisp adds.

“Pizza Port is honored to be brewing this collab with our OG SD cousins at AleSmith,“ states Sean Farrell,  Director of Brewing Operation at Pizza Port Brewing. “Our two companies have been proudly carrying the IPA flag here in town for a while, going all the way back to their Irie Pirate Ale winning some hardware at our Strong Ale Fest. Excited how this clear, fruity IPA came out and even more pumped to share some pints with them,” Farrell notes.

Crack open a can, embrace the moment, and enjoy the journey with Beach Run, available at select distributors nationwide, plus on-draft at AleSmith’s tasting room in San Diego. Find the retailer nearest you by visiting AleSmith’s Beer Finder.

The Alementary Releases Road Trip West Coast Double IPA

February 9, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Alementary HACKENSACK, New Jersey – Road Trip is back on Friday, February 11th! Road Trip will transport you to the wide-open country roads: top down, sun on your face and wind in your hair. No maps allowed. Classically hop forward with notes of resinous pine, ripe citrus, and luscious tropical fruits, Road Trip sips an easy 8.5% ABV.  Available on draft and in 16 oz. four-packs in our taproom as well as select retail partner locations.

Road Trip is our take on the classic west coast style with citrus and pine from Pacific Northwest hops sitting on top of a clean North American malt foundation. The clean bitterness, typical of the style, comes from a combination of quality hops and careful management of our notably challenging North Jersey water profile. There’s a reason why this style needs no further introduction: it’s just plain delicious.
