Threes Brewing Releases Cold IPA

November 5, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Threes BrewingBrooklyn, N.Y. – Threes Brewing has just released The Current Thing Cold IPA. Clean and snappy, with notes of white grapefruit, ripe kiwi, and huckleberry gummies, it’s Threes’ take on a style gaining increased interest.

Cold IPAs could be considered very similar to West Coast IPAs, thanks to their bitterness and clarity. However, instead of pitching with Chico yeast (typical for West Coast IPAs), Threes used their house Lager yeast, which underwent fermentation at cooler temperatures. It is standard for Cold IPA to be brewed with adjuncts, like corn or rice, to lighten the body. In this case, Threes opted for puffed jasmine rice to make the beer extra crisp. New Zealand Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin hops provide bold expressions that complement one another well and help to balance out the bitterness, resulting in notes of gooseberry followed by a crisp, clean, snappy finish.

A crisp everyday beer that is pleasantly hoppy, The Current Thing follows on the heels of some recent West-Coast-inspired releases from Threes, including Slippery Slope: a new Hazy West Coast Simcoe IPA, and Good Bad News: a new West Coast IPA.

Breckenridge Distillery Announces Ultimate Whiskey and Beer Collaboration With Breckenridge Brewery

November 5, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Breckenridge BreweryBRECKENRIDGE — Breckenridge Distillery, the ‘World’s Highest Distillery,’ and Breckenridge Brewery return this season for the second ever Buddy Pass, a unique barrel-exchange program to create a limited-edition Imperial Stout Cask Finish Whiskey and a Whiskey Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout Beer. After selling out last year’s inaugural limited release in Colorado, Buddy Pass has expanded nationwide, entering 10 new markets and will hit retailers starting Oct. 24.

Buddy Pass is a unique collaboration between two iconic Colorado brands that allows you to sip the best of barrel-aged beer and beer-aged whiskey. The collaboration begins with Breckenridge Brewery’s Imperial Oatmeal Stout beer aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon barrels to imbue boozy flavors from the whiskey barrel. After the beer is sufficiently aged, the barrels are returned to Breckenridge Distillery where they are filled once again with the distillery’s award-winning whiskey and aged again for about a year.

The whiskey, Breckenridge Distillery’s Imperial Stout Cask Finish Whiskey, highlights notes from the Imperial Oatmeal Stout resulting in a 114.7 proof spirit dark and sultry with notes of cinnamon and oak and a light background of fresh orange zest and chocolate. Smooth abundant caramel and dark chocolate hit the palate first as a dry matured oak and bold cinnamon spice follow and ride out for a long dry, spicy finish. The whiskey has an ABV of 57.35% and an MSRP ranging from $49-$60, depending on the market.

The beer, Breckenridge Brewery’s barrel-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, is a quintessential “big beer.” With a velvety mouthfeel, this beer is meant to be sipped, not slammed. The Imperial Oatmeal Stout imparts notes of dark chocolate-covered cherries, espresso, and toffee; its time in the Breckenridge Distillery’s high-rye bourbon barrels imparts hints of caramel sweetness that take it to the next level.

Buddy Pass is a bold, boozy brew that is meant to be shared. The subsequent spirits and suds are a perfect marriage between the two treasured craft brands that both beer and whiskey lovers alike will enjoy.

Buddy Pass 2022 will be available in Colorado, Chicago, Southern California, Texas (Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio), New York City, South Florida, Upstate New York, Arizona, New Jersey, Atlanta, and the greater Washington D.C./Maryland/Delaware area. When both products are purchased together in the following markets, buyers can receive a $10 rebate: Southern Florida, Southern California, Arizona, Chicago, New Jersey, Maryland, and New York.

About Breckenridge Distillery

Founded in 2008, Breckenridge Distillery is the “World’s Highest Distillery” widely known for its award-winning blended bourbon whiskey, a high-rye mash American-style whiskey. As one of the most highly awarded craft bourbons in the U.S., Breckenridge Bourbon is proudly a 3x Icons of Whisky and 5x winner of Best American Blended winner at the World Whiskies Awards by Whisky Magazine and a 4x winner of Colorado Distillery of the Year by the New York International Spirits Competition. Most recently, Breckenridge Gin and PX Sherry Cask Finish Whiskey received Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In 2021, Breckenridge Gin was named the World’s Best Compound Gin at the World Gin Awards by Gin Magazine.

The Breckenridge Distillery is more than award-winning spirits, offering an immersive guest experience. Dine at their award-winning restaurant, enjoy show-stopping cocktails, learn about their highly awarded spirits with an in-depth tasting, and get an inside look at their active production facility. New to the distillery, guests have the opportunity to blend their own whiskey as they learn the inner workings of whiskey production.

Sycamore Brewing Releases Rising Hope Hazy IPA to Help Fund Pediatric Cancer Research

November 5, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Sycamore BrewingCharlotte, N.C. – Sycamore Brewing, a family-owned, award-winning craft brewery in Charlotte, announced the release of its third rendition of Rising Hope beer in partnership with National Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s Brewing Funds the Cure initiative. This year’s Rising Hope Hazy IPA (6.5% ABV) incorporates white peach and is available for purchase at local Charlotte grocery stores such as Harris Teeter. One hundred percent of the beer’s proceeds will be donated to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation to help fund pediatric cancer research.

“It is an honor to be the North Carolina-based brewery chosen for a third year to join Brewing Funds the Cure in the fight against pediatric cancer,” says Sycamore Brewing Co-Owner, Sarah Brigham. “We are proud to “brew our part” and grateful that our community supports the cause each year and is able to enjoy a deliciously flavored beer in the process.”

Each year for the creation of the Rising Hope beer, brew masters from Florida Avenue Brewing and Cigar City Brewing design a recipe that one chosen brewery from each state must use as a base, with this year’s flavor being white peaches. The ingredients are then provided to the breweries free of charge by Yakina Chief Hops, Country Malt Group and Amoretti Flavors and are then tweaked by each brewery to produce a Rising Hope beer that matches its unique style, philosophy and process. For the first time this year, Sycamore also designed its own label for the beer.

In addition to white peach, Sycamore’s take on the beer includes supporting flavors of Juicy Fruit bubblegum, citrus and tropical notes. Toasted wheat bread and cereal malt flavors combine with the fruitiness to create an overall crushable IPA with an unmistakable peach flavor. The mildly hazy beer presents a clean malt profile with a bronze appearance and crisp light-bodied feel.

About Sycamore Brewery

Sycamore Brewing, a Charlotte-based brewery, has been producing award-winning craft liquids since 2013 and is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team, Justin and Sarah Brigham. Sycamore has grown and expanded at whirlwind speed since opening their doors and has consequently quadrupled its total beer production since 2018. Sycamore operates a bustling taproom and beer garden complete with craft beer, live music, food trucks and more. Sycamore beer and BUBS 77-Calorie Hard Seltzer are available in NC, SC, VA, TN, KY, GA and OH, with additional states to be added this year.

November 4, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Stone BrewingESCONDIDO, CA – This holiday season Stone Brewing rolls out its third annual celebration of IPAs in one essential box. The case of holiday cheer includes 12 individual beers spanning rebrewed fan favorites, current best-sellers and never-before seen beers making their early debut. Given as a gift, or kept for yourself, beer drinkers can now explore a 12-day journey of IPAs from one of the world’s most celebrated IPA brewers.

“This isn’t just a box of beers dressed up for the holidays,” explained Maria Stipp, Stone Brewing CEO. “We asked our team members – our biggest Stone super fans – what they’d be most proud to bring to their holiday gatherings. Anchor Brewing Company Releases Highly Anticipated 48th Annual Christmas Ale

November 4, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Anchor Brewing CompanySAN FRANCISCO — Anchor Brewing Company announces the long-awaited return of its annual Christmas Ale, rolling out nationwide this October. First released in 1975, Christmas Ale is nationally recognized as one of the craft beer industry’s first hype beers and one of many ground-breaking brews that defined Anchor’s foundational role in the craft beer movement. Each year Anchor’s brewmasters craft a new secret recipe and bottle the limited-edition ale with a different festive hand-drawn tree label. Like last year, a portion of all sales benefit One Tree Planted, a non-profit dedicated to global reforestation planting millions of trees across 43 countries.

The 48th annual Christmas Ale showcases notes of orange, honeysuckle, toasted malts, and eucalyptus. Well-structured with botanicals and pleasantly herbaceous hops, this rye-forward brew finishes with a touch of spice like the warming bitter-sweet notes of Amaro, an Italian herbal liqueur often enjoyed as an after-dinner digestif. The 7.2% ale pairs well with hearty winter fare such as Roasted Achiote Chicken with Mole or a sweet treat like Chocolate Bundt Cake. Anchor Brewing’s recently retired Brewmaster Tom Riley drove the creative direction for the spiced red rye ale as the grand finale to his storied 38-year tenure at the iconic San Francisco brewery.

“Holidays at Anchor Brewing are always a special time to reflect on our history and the pioneering spirit that inspires our innovation,” says Anchor Brewing Company’s newly anointed Brewmaster Dane Volek. “Our incredible brewing team crafted a Christmas Ale that truly captures the essence of the holidays. We’re excited for fans to celebrate the season with us.”

This year’s hand-drawn label features a Blue Gum Eucalyptus tree, a nod to Mary Ellen Pleasant – a 19th-century San Francisco entrepreneur, financier, abolitionist, and civil rights activist. Pleasant, who is recognized as the “Mother of Civil Rights in California” for her impact during gold-rush San Francisco, planted Blue Gum Eucalyptus trees outside her Pacific Heights mansion shortly before her death in 1904. In 1974, the city of San Francisco designated the trees a Structure of Merit, recognizing them and their accompanying honorary plaque as Mary Ellen Pleasant Memorial Park.

Available through January 2023, Christmas Ale is offered in 12 oz bottles; signature, gold-foiled 50.7 oz magnums; and on draught at bars and restaurants across the country. Bay Area locals can enjoy Christmas Ale at Anchor Public Taps Taproom or visit the historic brewery in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood for festive Christmas Ale tours November through December.

About Anchor Brewing Company

Established in San Francisco in 1896, Anchor Brewing Company is America’s first craft brewery, a trailblazer and industry leader that has persevered through earthquakes, fires, and Prohibition. In 1965, Anchor’s new owner Fritz Maytag revived the brewery for a new era, charting a course that was foundational in the craft beer movement. During this time, Anchor reinvented its now classic Steam Beer, introduced the first American Pale Ale, and pioneered new brewing practices—such as dry-hopping—that are still used industry-wide today. As a proudly unionized brewery, Anchor’s dynamic portfolio of beers includes complex ales, refreshing IPAs, and iconic classics such as Anchor Steam, Liberty Ale, Anchor Porter, California Lager, and Christmas Ale. As always, Anchor Brewing remains committed to innovation while hand-crafting venerable beers that stand the test of time. Locals and Bay Area visitors can experience Anchor Brewing in-person at their iconic brewery and Public Taps taproom in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood.

Tennessee Brew Works Releases Seasonal King Chestnut

November 4, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Tennessee Brew WorksNASHVILLE, Tennessee – Tennessee Brew Works celebrates the “King of the Forest,” the American Chestnut, with the release of their seasonal beer King Chestnut, an American Brown Ale brewed with real American chestnuts, available this Friday, October 28, 2022.

KING CHESTNUT- STYLE: American Brown, ABV: 5.60%, IBU: 28

DESCRIPTION: A silky-smooth brown ale, rich with roasted nutty aromas and flavors from the real American chestnuts. It pairs wonderfully with braised or smoked meats, big pots of chili, and generous slices of pumpkin pie.

In the early 1900’s approximately 98% of the American chestnut trees were destroyed by a devastating blight. Prior to that, the American chestnut was considered the King of the Forest as it was the dominant tree in the Tennessee forest.  In the oak family, the wood looks like oak, but was soft and worked like pine. It was decay resistant and it was used to build cabins, barns, and fences.  As the mountains were settled, the tree became important for railroad ties, utility poles and furniture.  When it was cut, the tree replaced itself with dozens of sprouts, some which became trees again. Perhaps its most important role was producer of food for wildlife and humans, as it dropped tons of sweet, edible nuts every fall.

Tree researchers and plant pathologists have worked for over 100 years to bring the chestnut back to the Appalachian Mountains area. Research groups including foundations, universities and government agencies have worked together to provide unique opportunities for the return of the tree to its rightful place in the forest. Battling the chestnut blight, The American Chestnut Foundation has developed chestnut trees ready for testing in the forest.

Join Tennessee Brew Works in supporting the goals of the American Chestnut Foundation by helping provide research funds to battle the chestnut blight. A taste of King Chestnut Ale will serve as a reminder to help bring back the King of the Forest.

This beer will be available for release Friday, Oct 28, in draft and 12oz can 6-packs and cases at the Tennessee Brew Works Taproom, 809 Ewing Ave, Nashville, and throughout the greater- Nashville, Clarksville, Chattanooga, Cookeville, and Knoxville areas thereafter.

Firestone Walker Mocha Dolce Nitro Stout, an all-new seasonal beer made to warm your soul as the weather turns cold.Paso Robles, California – Firestone Walker today released Mocha Dolce Nitro Stout, an all-new seasonal beer made to warm your soul as the weather turns cold.

“We enhanced our classic nitro stout and took it to the next level with the addition of premium Madagascar vanilla beans, whole-roasted coffee beans and cocoa nibs—all of which meld perfectly with the beer’s rich, chocolaty character,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “The result is a smooth, creamy beer that reminds you of your favorite latte.”

Mocha Dolce Nitro Stout is a limited fall-winter seasonal that is rolling out to all Firestone Walker markets in six pack (12-ounce can) formats. Mocha Dolce is also available in draft in a non-nitro version for a limited time.

Curated Flavors
To create Mocha Dolce Nitro Stout, the brewing team partnered with three of their favorite local and California purveyors: HoneyCo Coffee Roasters in San Luis Obispo; Cooks Flavorings in Paso Robles; and TCHO Chocolate in Berkeley.

“For the coffee beans, we landed on HoneyCo’s single-origin Columbia Granadilla medium roast,” Brynildson said. “We tried a bunch of different coffees and ultimately landed on their Columbia Granadilla as a perfect complement to the beer with its nougat and spun caramel flavors.”

He added, “We don’t grind the beans at all—we circulate the beer through the whole beans. It’s a less efficient way to gain flavor, but it prevents any of the bitter qualities that you might get from over-extraction.”

The Madagascar vanilla beans were sourced from Cooks Flavorings, a third-generation family enterprise renowned worldwide for its vanilla and other spices. Finally, the cocoa nibs came from TCHO Chocolate, with whom Brynildson has worked for several years.

“These are all amazing ingredients that work really well together,” Brynildson said. “We never want any one flavor to stick out—we want them to work in concert together to create this seamless Mocha Dolce character.”
