Temperance Beer Co. Releases First Ever Non-Alcoholic ‘Near Tears’ Double-Dry Hopped Near Beer

January 8, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Temperance BeerEVANSTON, Illinois – Temperance Beer Co. is excited to announce the release of its first non-alcoholic brew just in time for dry January. Near Tears is a near beer double dry-hopped with Amarillo and Mosaic hops. It pours a hazy pale straw color with a foamy white head. Though its notable flavors are reminiscent of a saison, Near Tears clocks in at just 0.3% ABV.

“Near Tears is the brew Temperance was meant to make—it’s the ultimate ‘temperance beer,’” said Temperance’s founder Josh Gilbert. “Our brewers are always up for a challenge, so this fall we talked about creating an N/A recipe for dry January. Last January was a rough go, sales-wise, so we wanted to be able to offer a flavorful brew that would not only give our dry-January friends a reason to leave the house, but also would be delicious enough for anyone to drink.”

“I’ve never had a non-alcoholic brew as tasty as Near Tears,” explained Gilbert. “The aromas are enticing, the body is light but firm,” he continued, “possessing a tang and brightness, and it finishes perfectly dry. It’s the antidote to the darkest month of the year.”
“Near Tears” double dry-hopped near beer will be available on Friday, January 6 on tap, only at the brewery.

About Temperance Beer Co.

As Evanston’s first and oldest brewery, they’ve never wanted to “keep up with the Joneses.” Through its award-winning yet accessible beers and investment in the community, they are creating a whole new neighborhood. The brewery has been featured in numerous media such as TimeOut Chicago, ABC-TV, Zagat, Crain’s Chicago Business, Red Eye, WCIU-TV, WBEZ-FM, the New York Times, WTTW News, and the Chicago Reader, among others. In its first competition, at just over a year old, Temperance took home a Silver Medal from the 2014 Great American Beer Festival® for Gatecrasher, its English-style IPA. Gatecrasher followed up with GABF gold two years later. Temperance Beers are available throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and Colorado.

SECOND CHANCE BEER RELEASES TOMORROW WEST COAST IPA

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Second Chance BeerSAN DIEGO, CA – Second Chance Beer Company will begin serving Tomorrow West Coast IPA on Friday, a limited release that is available on tap and in four packs of 16-oz cans at the brewery’s Carmel Mountain and North Park tasting rooms, as well as retailers Trader Joe’s and Total Wine & More.

Tomorrow West Coast IPA, which sold out its inaugural release in January 2022, is 7.2% alcohol by volume (ABV) and contains a blend of Strata and Idaho 7 hops. It tastes tropical, dank, and piney, and finishes dry and crisp.

“The new year reminds us that ‘tomorrow’ – literally and figuratively – is always a second chance,” said Co-founder and CEO Virginia Morrison. “We hope this beer reminds everyone that in every moment we have a chance to start again, and not just on January first. For Second Chance Beer Company, we are looking forward to seizing more pints and saving more pups in 2023.”

Suggested pairings for Tomorrow are chicken wings, spicy calzones, Thai basil, and lemon meringue pie.

Second Chance, the “Seize a Pint, Save a Pup” brewery, is profiled in the current issue of Dogster Magazine. Since its founding in 2015, Morrison and her co-founder and husband Marty Mendiola have donated more than $275,000 to dog rescue organizations such as Second Chance Dog Rescue and The Animal Pad. More than one hundred dogs have been adopted through brewery events, and Morrison and Mendiola got their 11th foster dog adopted in December.

One percent of all sales from year-round beers Buddy Lager and New Day West Coast IPA go toward dog rescue organizations in San Diego and Arizona.

The Carmel Mountain brewery and tasting room is located at 15378 Avenue of Science. The North Park taproom is at 4045 30th Street.

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Shiner BeersSHINER, Texas – Excited to share that the independent, family-owned makers of the iconic Shiner Bock, have just released Trail Ale, originally part of Shiner’s Bonfire Brewski variety pack.

Stemming from the brand’s love of the outdoors, Shiner was inspired to create a trail mix inspired brew. Now back by popular demand, this time as a stand-alone brew, Shiner’s Trail Ale is a robust ale, brewed with nuts, dried fruit and chocolate for a sweet and savory finish.

STONE BREWING UNVEILS NEW STONE DELICIOUS IPA VARIANTS IN SIX PACK

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Stone BrewingEscondido, CA – Stone Brewing, among the world’s most renowned IPA breweries, introduces a family of year-round beers to accompany its hugely popular Stone Delicious IPA. The gluten-reduced West Coast Style IPA is now joined by Stone Delicious Double IPA and Stone Delicious Citrus IPA in a format hardly seen on shelves – a variety can six-pack.
The three beers of the Stone Delicious Six-Pack are individually unique recipes: The original, the sequel and the remix:

Stone Delicious IPA (7.7% ABV) packs a refreshing and hoppy lemon candy flavor that make it especially complementary to an array of foods and a superior standalone IPA.

Stone Delicious Double IPA (9.4% ABV!) stands out with a serious depth of flavor and explosive aroma of lemon and ripe fruit from Centennial and Amarillo hops. With less bitterness than a typical double IPA, this one is extra fruity, extra gratifying and extra Delicious.

Stone Delicious Citrus IPA (7.7% ABV) is brewed with Talus hops that impart vibrant citrus notes complemented by the addition of sweet orange peel. The result is especially bright and satisfyingly juicy.

Stone Delicious IPA is one of the fastest growing IPAs in the country.* Its bright, lemony-herbal intensity has made it a favorite among the most discerning craft IPA drinkers for years. It also happens to be gluten reduced, as are its two new companions. In fact, The Delicious family of beers clocks in below the FDA requirement for “gluten free” labeling (less than 20 parts per million). Since the beer is brewed with barley and the gluten is removed, Stone only gets to claim, “gluten reduced,” and that’s fine. IYKYK.

“Expanding our Stone Delicious family was a big ask for us brewers because not just any IPA can live up to this name,” explained Jeremy Moynier, Senior Manager of Brewing & Innovation. “Each of these beers share a bright, vibrant citrus-forward quality that plays out in three distinctly different ways. And that kind of variety is hard to find in a six-pack!”

The new variety six-pack is available nationwide at the same suggested retail price as a six-pack of the original Stone Delicious IPA: $11.99. That’s a delicious steal considering all that ABV and variety in one approachable six-pack. In addition, six-packs of Stone Delicious Double IPA are also now available nationwide with six-packs dedicated to Stone Delicious Citrus IPA rolling out in summer 2023.

Stone Delicious IPA is up +17.9% in Nielsen $ sales % change vs PY (last 13wks ending 10/22, Total US xAOC). Growth is coming from all pack sizes. In both Nielsen and Kroger IRI data, Delicious is among the fastest-growing IPAs in 6pks, 12pks, and 19.2oz cans.

About Stone Brewing

Founded in 1996, Stone pioneered the West Coast Style IPA, helping to fuel the modern craft beer revolution and inspire generations of hop fanatics. Today Stone operates breweries in Escondido, CA and Richmond, VA plus seven tap room and bistro locations. Stone offers a wide range of craft beers including its most popular Stone IPA, Stone Delicious IPA and Stone Buenaveza Salt & Lime Lager. The company’s long list of environmental efforts includes a LEED Silver Certification, world-class water reclamation and creative uses of spent grain. Stone has been called the “All-time Top Brewery on Planet Earth” by BeerAdvocate magazine twice.

OUR MUTUAL FRIEND BREWING COLLABS WITH COLOR DROP COFFEE ON BOUNDARY BEYOND

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Our Mutual FriendDENVER, CO — A couple of industry friends have teamed up to bring you arguably one of the best craft pairings: coffee and beer. Our Mutual Friend Brewing Co. (OMF) and brand new coffee roaster Color Drop Coffee will release Boundary Beyond, an Imperial Coffee Stout, as well as a dark roast coffee, on Saturday, November 19 at Our Mutual Friend Brewing (2810 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80205).

Color Drop Coffee is run by Erich Rosenberg, who has over 20 years of experience in specialty coffee roasting including quality assurance at one of the largest coffee importers in America, and Steve Kurowski, a 20+ year craft beer industry professional. OMF is Color Drop Coffee’s first brewery collaboration.

“The collaboration came about through my longtime friendship with Erich who was the head roaster at NOVO Roastery back when OMF was first opening up and Steve who I’ve known from the Colorado Brewers Guild,” says OMF Head Brewer Jan Chodkowski. “When we learned that they were starting their own coffee business, we jumped at the opportunity to combine our crafts.”

Boundary Beyond is a 13.5% ABV Imperial Coffee Stout brewed with Color Drop Coffee and Troubadour Malt. The combination of specialty malt and craft coffee provides big, bold flavors of fresh espresso, dark chocolate, and caramel. This limited-edition release will be available on draft at OMF, as well as in 12-ounce cans.

The coffee version of Boundary Beyond, Color Drop’s darkest roast yet, has a full body, notes of chocolate, a bit of nuttiness, and light red fruit on the finish. This super limited release will be available at OMF on the 19th in 12-ounce bags. The collaboration coffee will also be available in early December on Color Drop’s website.

“Coffee and beer go well together like grilled cheese and tomato soup,” says Rosenberg. “ If we dig into it, the roasted malts and the coffee are going to come together and create something greater than their parts, without the coffee dominating the beer. The coffee has to be good enough to not distract from the quality of the beer, while not being too noticeable that it takes away from the flavor profile. We think we have created the perfect balance between both with this collaboration!”

About Our Mutual Friend Brewing

Established in 2012, Our Mutual Friend is a relaxed brewery and taproom in Denver, CO whose goal is to create world-class beer using local ingredients whenever possible and serve as a gathering place for the Five Points neighborhood. This small but mighty brewery has earned acclaim and awards with a 2018 gold medal for Saison Trystero at World Beer Cup and six Great American Beer Festival medals, including a silver medal in the Mixed-Culture Brett Beer category for Biere Ovale and a gold medal for Inner Light in the Australian Pale Ale category in 2021.

About Color Drop Coffee

The core belief of Color Drop Coffee is the notion that there is a place for every coffee and a coffee for every place. Color Drop exists to be a source of simple and accessible coffee with a focus on quality, transparency, and community. With decades of coffee experience, we are convinced every coffee has a home, and much like music or art, if you like it, you like it.

WEST SIXTH BREWING COLLABS WITH BULLEIT FRONTIER WHISKEY ON RYE BARREL PORTER

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

West Sixth Brewing LEXINGTON, KY. – West Sixth Brewing, one of Kentucky’s largest craft breweries, has announced its third collaboration with Kentucky-based distillery, Bulleit Frontier Whiskey, on a unique barrel-aged beer for all to enjoy, just in time for the holidays.

Rye Barrel Porter is a 9.0% porter that has aged in Bulleit rye whiskey barrels. This beer features malty caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, and hints of toffee aromas. Notes of rye whiskey make Rye Barrel Porter a complex, yet quaffable, barrel-aged beer.

“After the success of our first two collaborations with Bulleit, we were excited to dive in for the third with something new,” said Kelly Hieronymus, Marketing and Creative Director, West Sixth Brewing. “Rye Barrel Porter and this partnership emphasizes West Sixth’s commitment to making new and innovative beers.”

Both West Sixth Brewing and Bulleit Frontier Whiskey are Kentucky-based brands that are passionate about creating high-quality beverages that positively impact their community. This is their third collaboration following the release of Bourbon Barrel Brownie in 2021, and a vanilla offering of the same beer in May of 2022.

“We are thrilled to continue working with West Sixth as part of our Bulleit & Beer Program,” said Sophie Kelly, SVP of North American Whiskeys. “Now in its third evolution, this partnership continues to pioneer Bulleit’s commitment to local collaborations that focus on positive environmental impact, and unique experiences for customers.”

In an increasingly competitive climate, it is important for craft breweries and distilleries to find distinct ways to stand out to consumers that are constantly seeking new flavor experiences. With this third limited collaboration under their belts, West Sixth and Bulleit are pioneering a standout experience for Kentucky consumers.

Rye Barrel Porter will be available starting Monday, November 14th in select distribution throughout the state of Kentucky, including on draft and to-go in the West Sixth taprooms in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort & Newport.

FIRESTONE WALKER WOOKEY JACK MAKES WIDESPREAD RETURN

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Firestone WalkerPaso Robles, CA –  For the first time in six years, Firestone Walker’s mythic Wookey Jack is back on the big stage with a new release for the winter season.

Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA is now rolling out to all Firestone Walker markets in six pack (12-ounce can) and draft formats, adding to the legend of this three-time gold medalist at the Great American Beer Festival. This is the first widespread release of Wookey Jack since the beer was originally retired in late 2016.

“The Wookey never dies—it just hibernates,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “We’ve produced periodic small-batch runs over the years, and people keep asking for more. It’s time to release it back into the wild.”

The latest edition of Wookey Jack (8.3% ABV) remains faithful to the original recipe, which includes loads of pearled dark malts with rye adding a rustic grain element. The hops are dank, sticky Citra and pungent Amarillo, both of which are incorporated into a massive dry-hop regimen.

Wookey Jack now reclaims its title Firestone Walker’s wildest and wooliest IPA, offering big, toasty malted rye flavors with a balanced bite on the finish. It is, in Brynildson’s words, “gnarly on the outside, yet refined on the inside.”

Wookey Evolved

Wookey Jack was first released by Firestone Walker in 2012, inspired by Brynildson’s quest to quiet the naysayers.

“At the time, there were a few beer geeks out there saying that Firestone Walker still had yet to really make a truly over-the-top hoppy IPA,” Brynildson recalled. “We took that as a challenge and Wookey Jack was going to be the answer. We dug into the hop closet and pulled out the stickiest and most pungent hops available. We found a blend that really popped and applied it liberally to the brew.”

Founded by brothers-in-law Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a California beer company with three innovative brewing facilities. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. Firestone Walker is also the brewery behind 805, one of the nation’s fastest-growing beers.

REVOLUTION BREWING UNVEILS LATEST LEAGUE OF HEROES PACK

January 7, 2023 by Dustin Scoggins

Revolution BrewingChicago – Revolution Brewing, the largest independent brewery in Illinois and pioneers of the IPA variety pack, are turning up the volume on hop innovation in the newest issue of the League of Heroes. Anti-Hero, as always, headlines a diverse lineup stacked top to bottom with nuanced, expressive IPAs. Each League of Heroes 12-pack follows a theme and changes both lineup and motif with each new rotating “issue.” In Issue 18, a longtime cult favorite style makes a triumphant return alongside two brand-new Hero IPAs that push further into global hop innovation.
Revolution Brewmaster Jim Cibak is excited to return the style to the League, calling it “almost radical to bring back” years after Black IPA’s moment of craft beer industry fame.“A hoppy dark beer can still be shocking to people, in a very welcome way,” Cibak said.

Soul-Hero makes its debut in this package, built around an intriguing German-bred hop called Solero that joins old-world growing practices to the fruit-forward expression of contemporary hops.

“We purposely created a very light body to let Solero hit the high notes we know it can. There are so many nice, delicate flavors that you wouldn’t want to cover up,” Cibak said. “It’s a very impactful dry hop, with Simcoe, Talus, and Cryo Mosaic singing backup.”

Fellow first-timer Hip Hop-Hero is a Hazy IPA that unspools an unmatched mixtape of the most compelling new-school Revolution brewers hit the dry hop with Nelson

Sauvin, Zappa, Nectaron, El Dorado, Citra, and Mosaic.

“We’ve used these very cool, sought-after hops before, but never together like this,” Cibak said. “The first thing that comes to mind is just a stellar dry hop.”
