Ecliptic + Russian River Pinot Noir Barrel-Aged Belgian-Style Golden Ale Coming this October

Portland, Oregon. Earth. — Ecliptic Brewing is excited to launch their next Cosmic Collaboration: Ecliptic + Russian River Pinot Noir Barrel-Aged Belgian-Style Golden Ale. Due to release October 22nd in 500ml bottles and draft, the original beer was brewed in 2019 with Santa Rosa’s Russian River Brewing Company as part of Ecliptic’s “5 Years/5 Beers” series.

After a successful first launch last October, Ecliptic and Russian River agreed to rest some of the collaboration beer in Pinot Noir barrels. With the addition of Brettanomyces and 11 months in hibernation, the result is slightly tart, fruity yet wild, wine forward beer.

Says John Harris, Ecliptic Brewing Owner and Brewmaster, “We sent a sample of our 12 barrels down to Vinnie and Natalie [Russian River’s Owners] to taste. We compared notes and have come up with a blending plan for the beer. We’re excited to release a new barrel-aged project this year; it’s definitely something to look forward to.”

The Pinot Noir Barrel-Aged Belgian-Style Golden Ale will be released in both draft and 500ml bottles throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network. The company will be hosting a short Virtual Release Party on October 22nd with John Harris and Vinnie Cilurzo. Event details are on Ecliptic’s Facebook page.

Baerlic Brewing Co. Releases Keep Oregon Green IPA for Wildfire Relief

October 16, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Baerlic Brewing Co. Releases Keep Oregon Green IPA for Wildfire Relief

PORTLAND, Ore. — Keep Oregon Green™ IPA is a collaboration between Baerlic Brewing Co. and Keep Oregon Green™ with 100% of sales going to wildfire relief and prevention. Since 1941, Keep Oregon Green™ has been promoting healthy landscapes and safe communities by educating the public of our shared responsibility to prevent human-caused wildfires.

80% of the proceeds of this beer will go to Oregon’s 2020 Community Rebuilding Fund working on the ground in Oregon helping those most in need right now. The remaining 20% of proceeds will go directly to Keep Oregon Green™ to help them carry on in the mission of preventing human caused wildfires in Oregon through education and engagement.

“Witnessing the complete destruction of entire towns by the Riverside Fire not 30 miles from my own home was so beyond belief…and to think that it was human caused made it all that much more terrible. That’s when I reached out to Kristin at Keep Oregon Green™ and we came up with Keep Oregon Green IPA—a 100% Oregon grown beer where ALL proceeds will go toward not only helping those most in need right now, but also to help prevent this from happening in the future,” said Ben Parsons, Baerlic Brewing Co

“Over 70% of Oregon’s wildfires are started by people. The power and responsibility of wildfire is squarely in our hands. Whether at home, on the job, or out having fun, predict the outcome of any outdoor activity that could possibly spark a wildfire. Predictable is preventable. As our population continues to grow, urban boundaries expand, and wildfires increase in frequency, intensity and cost, Keep Oregon Green’s message is more important than ever,” said Kristin Babbs, Keep Oregon Green™

THE CHALLENGE:
Inspired by Sierra Nevada’s Resilience IPA program, we hope that we can get as many Oregon breweries as possible to follow along and brew their own Keep Oregon Green IPA and commit to donating 100% of proceeds toward wildfire relief and prevention in Oregon. Oregon brewers are a very giving community and we hope that they will rise to the challenge to help our fellow Oregonians most impacted by these recent fires. And while the smoke has cleared, the path of destruction remains. Email beer@baerlicbrewing.com for more info on how to be a part.

ABOUT THE BEER:
Keep Oregon Green™ IPA is brewed with Oregon grown malted barley and Oregon-grown Centennial hops from Crosby Hop Farm and Oregon-grown Strata hops from Indie Hops.

Thanks to our wonderful trade partners who have donated the ingredients and supplies needed to get this beer out in the world: Thanks to Crosby Hops, Indie Hops, Craft Canning and Innovative Labeling Solutions for their contributions to this cause.

University of Maryland and Flying Dog Brewery Release 2020 Field Notes Pale Ale

October 16, 2020 by Andrew Innes

University of Maryland and Flying Dog Brewery Release 2020 Field Notes Pale Ale

FREDERICK, Md. – Flying Dog Brewery today announced the 2020 release of Field Notes Pale Ale, a beer created in partnership with the University of Maryland (UMD) College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Flying Dog and UMD have been working hand-in-hand for the past 5 years on the future of beer-centric agriculture in the State of Maryland.

Field Notes, brewed using hops grown at UMD’s Western Maryland Research and Education Center in Keedysville, MD, is a crisp and delicious 5.6% pale ale with fruity and citrus hop notes dominating both the aroma and flavor profile. The hops used – Lyon, Glacier and Southern Cross – were chosen after three rounds of blind sensory analysis on the hop varieties harvested by UMD this year.

“There’s no better way to evaluate hops than putting them in a beer, which is exactly why experimental projects like Field Notes are vital to our work with the University of Maryland,” said James Maravetz, VP of Marketing, Flying Dog. “There are no pilot or test brews for this beer, it is a one-time shot to see what notes shine through.”

UMD and Maryland’s largest independent craft brewery have been growing hops in Maryland since the organizations’ partnership began in 2015. At that time, UMD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources partnered with Flying Dog to study hop production in the State of Maryland. The goal of the study was to gather research and lay the groundwork for a commercially viable hop producing industry in Maryland that mirrors the success of hop growing ventures in the Pacific Northwest.

“Over the past five years we have battled various obstacles, both environmental and manmade, and it is evident that we can produce hops in Maryland,” said Bryan Butler, Extension Agent, UMD College of AGNR. “The question that remains however is, can a consistent, high quality, profitable crop be produced? We look forward to continuing our work to determine the ultimate answer to that question.”

24 hop varietals have been studied to try to identify the strains best suited for production in Maryland’s climate, and to determine the potential challenges Maryland growers may encounter along the entire production chain – from growing to harvesting to processing.

Looking ahead to the next phase of the project, the team will narrow their focus to the 6 most promising strains of hops, work on genotyping a hop that may be native to Maryland, and launch a new course of study at the University of Maryland focused on fermentation.

Field Notes began shipping to Maryland distributors Monday, October 12, 2020 in 4-packs of 16 oz cans. To locate the beer, visit Flying Dog’s Beer Finder (website).

Cape May Brewing Company to Release Cape May Coffee Stout

October 16, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Cape May Brewing Company to Release Cape May Coffee Stout

CAPE MAY, N.J. — Cape May Brewing Company is pleased to announce the latest in their lineup of winter seasonals: Cape May Coffee Stout, a dark, roasty, and slightly malty stout conditioned on a medium-bodied Latin American and Indonesian coffee blend. Available throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, Cape May Coffee Stout will be distributed beginning October 26th.

“We’ve been brewing outstanding coffee stouts for years,” says Cape May Brewing Company CEO Ryan Krill, “and our fans have always gone crazy for them. Using locally-roasted coffee, Cape May Coffee Stout is the latest — and best — of these brews, with a lineage tracing back to our very first days as a brewery.”

Conditioned on a locally-roasted custom blend of medium-bodied Latin American and Indonesian coffee, Cape May Coffee Stout is sure to be another fan favorite as the weather begins turning colder.

“Smooth, roasty, and with a delicious coffee and chocolatey aroma, Cape May Coffee Stout is a delectable fall entry into our seasonal lineup that’ll really stand out against the sea of spiced seasonals (our beloved Mop Water included),” says Cape May Brewing Company Production Planning and Special Projects Manager Brian Hink. “We’ve done plenty of coffee beers over the years, but this is definitely our crowning achievement. As the fall months turn into the winter, Cape May Coffee Stout will still be drinking very seasonally appropriate, so I’m looking forward to sipping on this one for the next couple of months — if it lasts that long.”

Cape May Coffee Stout replaces one of Cape May’s longtime packaged offerings, King Porter Stomp, a chocolate porter originally brewed in conjunction with the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.

“New Jersey beer drinkers are looking for a local-brewed coffee stout, so it only made sense for us to bring Cape May Coffee Stout to our fans,” says Cape May Brewing Company Director of Sales Bill Zaninelli. “Our coffee stouts have always been well-received as a draft offering, so, as we began searching for a suitable replacement for King Porter Stomp, Cape May Coffee Stout made sense.”

While Cape May Coffee Stout and its predecessor beers have long been available in Cape May Brewing Company’s draft variety, this is the first time the beer has been packaged in 12-ounce cans.

“This can design is warm and inviting,” says Cape May Brewing Company Director of Marketing Alicia Grasso. “The dark greens and light browns are evocative of a rich and aromatic mug of coffee, and the design is unmistakably Cape May. As the weather turns colder, I could see our fans snuggling up under a blanket by a warm fire with this can, and I expect that they will.”

Cape May Coffee Stout will be available in their Tasting Room at 1288 Hornet Road in the Cape May Airport beginning October 23rd and throughout New Jersey beginning October 26. It will be distributed throughout the nine easternmost counties of Pennsylvania and as part of Cape May Brewing Company’s expansion into Delaware beginning November 2nd.

For more information on Cape May Brewing Company, including their complete lineup of core brands, seasonals, limited-edition, and specialty brews, call (609) 849-9933 or see their website at www.capemaybrewery.com.

About Cape May Brewing Company
CMBC started in 2011, with three guys making one beer in a 1,500 square-foot space. Now, they’ve got over 32,000 square feet of space at the Cape May Airport and several hundred flagship, seasonal, and small-batch brews under their umbrella, distributed throughout all of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Their original space is now dedicated to experimental brewing and their award-winning Tasting Room, with a separate, industrial brewing facility across the street. Blue Norther Hard Seltzer Expands Distribution to Houston

October 15, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Blue Norther Hard Seltzer Expands Distribution to Houston

AUSTIN, Texas — Blue Norther (BN), the new, Austin-based hard seltzer, is expanding to Houston following successful launches in Austin and San Antonio. Named for the fast-moving cold front that can blow through Texas (also called a Texas Norther), BN is brewed in Austin and currently available in three, Texas-inspired flavors: Wild Blackberry, Agave Lime, and the newly released Prickly Pear, which launched in October in partnership with the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC). The BCRC helps nearly 2,000 women and their families throughout Texas in their battles against breast cancer. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, a portion of the sales will be donated to the BCRC with the purchase of all BN products.

The seltzer was created by father-son duo, Austin T. and Austin M. Pittman. Its original blend of Texas-inspired flavors and quality ingredients has put Blue Norther at the top of taste tests in a crowded hard seltzer market. The Pittmans are working with Houston distributor, Silver Eagle, to get the products into Houston-area retailers including H-E-B and Spec’s, with more locations being added daily. Clickhere to find the latest lineup of retailers (note that online finder is subject to some delay).

“We’ve had a fantastic reception in Austin and San Antonio, where we continue to expand our footprint, so we’re excited to introduce Blue Norther to the great folks in Houston,” said Austin T., CEO of Blue Norther. “October is a huge month for us with a new flavor, a new market and the partnership with BCRC, contributing to a cause that’s near and dear to our hearts.”

Blue Norther’s hard seltzers are crafted with pure ingredients, including real fruit juice and organic agave, to create bold flavors inspired by Texas fruits. The concept was born after the Pittmans wrapped up a hard day’s work at their family ranch in Harwood, Texas with a hard seltzer that fell flat in flavor. Realizing that no one was offering great taste and exceptional quality in the fast-growing hard seltzer market, the men decided to create their own, in true Texas fashion.

Prior to founding Blue Norther, Austin T. (father) was CEO of OptumCare, where he helped to build one of the largest integrated care delivery organizations in America. He brings this experience, plus more than 25 years of executive leadership in the healthcare industry, to Blue Norther. Austin M. is experienced in healthcare consulting, cloud software, tech sales, and marine biology. He has played a crucial role in defining Blue Norther’s brand, product direction, marketing and personnel. The company is owned and operated by the Pittmans along with a small group of investors, Blue Partners.

About Blue Norther
Founded in 2019 as Austin’s own brand of hard seltzer, Blue Norther was developed by a native Texan, father-son team to deliver a superior tasting beverage made with high-quality ingredients loyal to Texas’ heritage. Named for the fast-moving cold front also called a Texas Norther, this all-natural seltzer is made with real fruit juice and organic agave to create bold flavors inspired by Texas fruits. Gluten-free, well-balanced and refreshing, Blue Norther is available at retailers throughout Austin and San Antonio, including HEB, Total Wine, Whole Foods, Spec’s, Bread Basket, Royal Blue Grocery, and Wheatsville Co-Op, to name a few. They’re available for online orders through GoPuff and other delivery services. The company is currently expanding into other Texas metro markets and eventually plans to move nationwide. Blue Norther is an independent brewer owned and operated by Austin T. and Austin M. Pittman. For more information, including where to buy, visit website. Follow Blue Norther on Facebook and Instagram.

About Breast Cancer Resource Center
The Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) was founded in 1995 by two women in Austin who noticed there was little help available to those who, like them, were battling breast cancer. What started as a helpline and a support group has grown into a staff of trained professionals – all of whom are breast cancer survivors – and experts in providing guidance, resources and support to women and their families through every stage of the process. The BCRC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

BCRC services are free of charge to anyone affected by breast cancer regardless of income, ethnicity, education, sexual orientation, or social support. For more information, visit website. Follow BCRC on Facebook and Instagram.

Evil Genius and Miller High Life Collaborate on Brunch So Hard Orange and Mango IPA

October 15, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Evil Genius and Miller High Life Collaborate on Brunch So Hard Orange and Mango IPA

PHILADELPHIA — Evil Genius Beer Company and Miller High Life announce they have teamed up to release a brand-new collaboration brew, Brunch So Hard Orange and Mango IPA. The brew is an Orange and Mango IPA that is inspired by the Champagne of Beers, playing on the boozy brunch favorite, the Mimosa, and carving out its own niche as the new Mimosa of Beers.

This new collaboration brew is a limited edition that was driven by the creative minds at EvilGenius Beer Company. It combines the components of both High Life and Evil Genius beers.Brunch So Hard will be available for a limited time in stores throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey starting on October 12th. It will also be available at the Evil Genius tap room “The Lab” in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia at 1727 Front Street. Brunch So Hardwill be available for $10.99 on shelves at The Lab for a four pack of 16 ounce cans. Prices may vary by location throughout the three states.

Raise a toast to the Mimosa of beers. Brunch So Hard Orange and Mango IPA is the perfect brew whether you’re grabbing brunch with friends, having a cookout or lounging outside in sweater weather this fall. Brunch So Hard has 6.5% ABV, 45 IBUs, SRM of 8 and comes in 4pks of 16 oz cans. The beer is brewed with Warrior, Galena, Citra, Azacca and Hallertau hops.

Miller High Life and Evil Genius have a general admiration for one another, driving an earned interest between the brands to collaborate on a beer that pays homage to both brewers’ specialties.

This unique collaboration started when Evil Genius Co-Founder Luke Bowen found himself at aJustin Timberlake concert in State College, PA, of all places. He said, “I randomly met some awesome people there from Molson Coors and Miller High Life. They then reached out to us and asked to work with them on a unique brew, taking elements of High Life and creating an IPA that pushed the boundaries of brewing. As a beer drinker, I am a huge fan of High Life, so it was an instant yes when they asked! And the entire collaboration process was really amazing. We got to look under the hood and see how a big company creates a brand and goes to market. We definitely learned a ton.”

“Both Miller High Life and Evil Genius focus on nostalgia and good vibes,” said Evil Genius Co-Founder Trevor Hayward. “We had so much in common when we sat down and really discussed how this collaboration would work. Both teams just clicked, and we knew that we could create a beer that paid homage to both brands equally.”

For Miller High Life, this partnership presents their largest collaboration to date by geography with beer launching in three primary states.

“Miller High Life is widely loved by the craft beer industry, which has given the brand the opportunity to collaborate with talented craft brewers in the past,” said Miller High Life Associate Brand Manager Stephanie Petropoulos. “As we thought of our next collaboration we wanted to partner with a brewery that not only made great beer, but was a fan of High Life themselves. After reaching out to our network it became clear that Evil Genius was the perfect partner to collaborate with given their ability to make amazing beers which has triggered their growth. The fact that they’re also huge High Life fans was icing on the cake.”

Following the success of Miller High Life’s collaboration brews with Off Color Brewing andTerrapin Beer Co., Miller High Life once again is committed to partnering and supporting a well-respected and local craft brewing company with an affinity for High Life.

Partnerships and collaborations with companies like Miller High Life are an important part of EvilGenius’ growth, but especially during challenging times like in 2020. For Evil Genius, this collaboration follows other recent high profile partnerships with Jameson, Sheetz, and GIANT.

Bowen concluded with, “We wanted to make a statement that Evil Genius is the leader in innovation. And we’re honored to collaborate with a brand that we’ve always looked up to.”

Hayward added, “There are over 8,000 craft breweries in the country and we got chosen. That makes us very proud.”

ABOUT MILLER HIGH LIFE
Miller High Life is one of Molson Coors Beverage Company’s flagship and oldest brewed beer – first brewed in the United States of America as bottled beer in 1903. Consistent with founder Frederick Miller’s belief that the best things in life should be available to all, a crisp, refreshing, effervescent flagship beer nicknamed The Champagne of Beers was born. Miller High Life today is as it has always been, brewed with the same basic recipe, bottled in the same clear glass and widely available to all who seek it – The Champagne of Beers. Miller High Life is a promise kept since 1903, an invitation to celebrate the everyday moments, brewed with a proprietary blend of malted barley and galena hops, created with a champagne-like feel for that sparkling pour. An authentic, unpretentious beer rooted in a rich heritage and the belief that the best things in life should be available to all.

Springdale Beer Co. and Union Square Donuts Team Up for Limited-Edition Collaboration Beer and Donut

Framingham & Somerville, MA — Framingham-based Springdale Beer Co. and Somerville’s Union Square Donuts have teamed up to create a limited-edition collaboration beer and collaboration donut. The beer will be released Friday, October 9th at the Jack’s Abby Beer Hall, with accompanying events surrounding the release over the following week.

The Springdale x Union Square Donuts Malted Milk Ball Porter was made with 110 large boxes of Malted Milk Balls, chocolate malts and tapioca to land on this truly incredible decadent beer. We boiled our wort down to make a thick malt syrup that is being used in the accompanying collab donut, a Malt Glazed Chocolate Ganache Donut topped with Milk Chocolate Pearls.

“The donut tastes like a modernized ‘Whopper’ – the malt syrup made from Springdale malt, the smooth milk chocolate ganache, and the fun crispy pearls all play on this favorite candy we love to enjoy. The malt used in the glaze and the beer has complex notes of warmth and caramel that play against the creamy, rich milk chocolate. And what would a ‘Whopper’ be without the fun, crunchy pop we deliver with the milk chocolate pearls!” – Sarah Belisle, Head of Culinary Production at Union Square Donuts

“The deliciousness of donuts and beer were destined to be together. We feel the same way about Springdale and Union Square Donuts. We didn’t know it until we met, but our two companies were meant to collaborate on something to wow the world.” – Rob Day, Senior Director of Marketing at Springdale Beer Co.

“The way business is being done has changed overnight or maybe it’s really going back to a time where producers gathered together to support each other and celebrate each other’s goods. This partnership with our friends at Springdale Beer Co. is exactly that. We are two local businesses who are committed to our craft, driven by working with exceptional ingredients, honoring classic techniques and respecting tradition. We spent months together, telling stories, sharing ingredients, recipes, donuts and beers and we finally landed on beer and a donut that celebrated the flavor profile of the nostalgic malted milk ball.” – Josh Danoff, Co-Founder of Union Square Donuts & Chief Donut Officer

About Springdale Beer Co.
Springdale Beer Co. is the incredible result of what happens when brewers wonder “what if” and pursue that curiosity to the fullest. Based in Framingham, MA, Springdale was created to push the limits of fermentation and explore flavors with the hope of creating bold new beers to share with friends. That’s why Springdale launched with the largest barrel program in Massachusetts. Over 1,300 barrels currently sit in the space, working their slow magic on beautiful beers. But that wasn’t enough. Next the team dove into IPAs, traditional European beers with new twists, and fruit-forward kettle sours. All of these were created to explore fermentation forward beers and find new ways to share them with beer drinkers.

Springdale was created in a unique way as well. The brewers of Jack’s Abby had been cultivating award-winning craft lagers for years, but found themselves wanting to push the limits of beer far beyond their core, traditional lagers. That left them with only one choice – start a whole new brand. That curiosity and willingness to take risks is what launched Springdale. The quality and expertise in this brewery is what drives Springdale.
