Dogfish Head Releases Campfire Amplifier S’mores-Centric Milk Stout

October 14, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Dogfish Head Releases Campfire Amplifier S’mores-Centric Milk Stout

MILTON, Del. – Break out those s’mores fixin’s … everyone’s favorite fireside treat is about to get a liquid companion! Dogfish Head Craft Brewery introduces Campfire Amplifier, a 6.5% ABV milk stout brewed with real marshmallows, graham crackers, coca nibs, cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla beans and a pinch of smoked malt. Inspired by fall nights around the campfire, this chilly-weather-warmer boasts delectable aromas of chocolate, vanilla, graham cracker, light roast and subtle smoke. Rich with memory-inducing notes of milk chocolate, vanilla and of course, s’mores, Campfire Amplifier is NOW available on taps and shelves nationwide.

“We started testing the idea and recipe for a s’mores-centric stout at our MiltonTasting Room & Kitchen sometime last year,” said Dogfish Head Founder & Brewer, Sam Calagione. “In fact, I specifically remember our Brewmaster, Mark, roasting countless marshmallows over the open flame of ourKitchen’s outdoor, wood-fired grill to use during our first brewday. The resulting beer was a big hit among both our co-workers and guests. Afterall, there’s really nothing better than a gooey s’mores sandwich … except maybe a s’mores beer!”

Campfire Amplifier is not only the newest addition toDogfish Head’s portfolio of offbeat ales, but it offers a sneak peek at the collaborating artist for the brewery’s 2021Off-Centered Art Series. An annual collection of limited-edition beers that personify the creative expression at the intersection of art and ales,Dogfish Head’s 2021 Off-Centered Art Series lineup will feature label artwork by Ryan Besch. Hailing from Buffalo, New York, Besch has been designing posters and vinyl art for more than 20 years, and has worked with a wealth of well-known groups, including Phish, The Black Keys, O.A.R. and many more.

“It may have been his awesome gig posters that first caught our eye, but after seeing his visual interpretation of Campfire Amplifier, it’s safe to say that Ryan’s comics-like, collage-centric design aesthetic is a perfect match forDogfish Head’s unique and eccentric beers,” said Calagione. “The intricate details within his artwork forCampfire Amplifier have me beyond excited to see what he comes up with for the rest ofArt Series lineup.”

Campfire Amplifier’s illustration-based artwork features a colorful group of misfit characters congregating around a campfire. A figure with a marshmallow head, whose melting face suggests he is hanging out a little too close to the flames, plays campfire songs on a ukulele. As a group of only three, the characters quickly realize there is no need to amplify their tunes. So, they throw their Dogfish Head-branded speaker into the fire and watch it burn as a full moon looms in the star-studded sky above.

For more information about Dogfish Head’s 2021 Off-Centered Art Series or to track down a case of Campfire Amplifier, please visit www.dogfish.com.

As is tradition for Ecliptic, the brewery will release a special anniversary beer- Seventh Orbit: Raspberry Golden Ale with Chocolate – on October 16th.

Says Ecliptic Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris, “It’s been a wild year, but here we are celebrating another anniversary. I’m really thankful for that.” In regards to the latest beer in the lineup, Raspberry Golden Ale with Chocolate, Harris has always had an affinity for brewing fruit beers, as he was one of the first to do so. “Raspberry was the first fruit I ever brewed with, and this is only the second raspberry beer to be brewed here at Ecliptic,” says John.

Brewed with real raspberries and a touch of chocolate, this golden ale gets an extra flavor punch from complementing berry-forward Enigma and Ariana hops. “Who doesn’t like raspberry on desserts?! This beer has a nice malt base, lots of lively hops from dry hopping, and a balanced raspberry character,” says Harris.

Seventh Orbit: Raspberry Golden Ale with Chocolate will first be released in Ecliptic’s restaurant on October 16th in 16-ounce cans and draft. It will soon follow throughout Ecliptic’s distribution network.

While the company will not be hosting its annual anniversary party with live music in the parking lot, Ecliptic will still be celebrating with some fun, special promotions; visit Facebook event page for more details. Fretboard Brewing and Branch & Bone Artisan Ales Release Dark Throne Dark Czech Lager

October 13, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Fretboard Brewing and Branch & Bone Artisan Ales Release Dark Throne Dark Czech Lager

BLUE ASH, Ohio — Fretboard Brewing Company (Blue Ash, OH) isn’t known for their collaborations with other breweries. Over the course of their 3 year history, they’ve partnered with musicians like Bootsy Collins and The Cliftones, to foundations like ArtsWave, and even a bread company (Klosterman Baking), but they’ve never released a product brewed in partnership with another brewery. Until now. Today, Fretboard is proud to announce the release of “Dark Throne” Dark Czech Lager, a collaboration with one the country’s rising small breweries, Branch & Bone Artisan Ales (Dayton, OH).

Making a name for themselves since opening in 2018, Branch & Bone was quickly recognized by USA Today as a “10 Best” Small Brewery in the country. Fretboard’s Director of Operations, Kevin Moreland, has a storied history with breweries in Cincinnati and had been paying close attention to the incredible liquid being brewed by Brett Smith, co-founder and head brewer of Branch & Bone. The two met in February this year at the Ohio Craft Brewers Conference in Dayton and the brainstorming for a collaboration quickly took ahold. Both Kevin & Brett share a love for lager beer, and brewing traditional styles not commonly found in the market. After a months-long hiatus in communication, as both breweries managed business under new guidelines, the two saw Fall approaching and landed on a beer neither had ever brewed; a dark Czech lager.

On brew day, Smith sat down with Moreland for an episode of Fretboard’s interview show, FretboardTV, and explained how they landed on the name, “Dark Throne”. Inspired by a Norwegian black metal band by the same name, Smith went on to add, “We do like heavy metal a lot in our brewery. It gets us through the work day sometimes. Buckles us in.” Both sides agreed that a dark beer deserved a dark name, and with a release in October, it only amplified the spooky theme.

“Dark Throne” is a full-bodied lager, with notes of caramel, toffee, dates, and bread. The perfect transition from Marzen and Festbier for cool Fall nights. Craft beer fans can expect to find this limited release on draft and in 6-packs throughout greater Cincinnati, and in select stores in Dayton. Those who live in Ohio, but outside of the distribution range, can order the beer online (website) to be shipped directly to their door.

Stay up to date with Fretboard Brewing and Branch & Bone by following them on Instagram. More big things on the way before this crazy year comes to an end!

Montauk Brewing Company to Release Winter Seasonal: Cold Day IPA

October 13, 2020 by Andrew Innes

MONTAUK, N.Y. – Montauk Brewing Company stayed focused on innovation through the summer by adding limited batch can releases and gauging fan response. After over six months of trial and recipe enhancements, the fans spoke – and we listened!

We’ve been hyper focused on deliberate innovation through the pandemic and developed a beer that the fans have been raving about. Cold Day IPA is coming next month and will be available through March.

Cold Day IPA clocks in at 6.7% ABV and combines Strata and Amarillo hops to offer abundant tropical aromas. We’ve never had a seasonal to backfill the popular Montauk Pumpkin Ale and carry us on shelves through the winter months, something our retailers have been asking for, so this is really exciting for the company.

Our wholesalers, Boening Brothers on Long Island and S.K.I. Beer in New York City think Cold Day IPA will really deliver.

Available November through March.

About the beer: Winters at The End are not for the faint of heart. Icy winds and frosty waters replace the sunny skies and warm sand. With a slight haze and crisp juicy notes, Cold Day IPA is the perfect beer to warm the spirit and help remind you that even the freezing days are beautiful ones.

Oskar Blues Brewery Releases Thick Haze New England-Style IPA

October 13, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Oskar Blues Brewery Releases Thick Haze New England-Style IPA

LONGMONT, Colo. — Oskar Blues Brewery introduces Thick Haze New England-Style IPA to their lineup of innovative canned craft beers. This wicked hazy IPA was developed in Oskar Blues taprooms in Colorado and North Carolina, and is now ready to be unleashed on shelves nationwide. Thick Haze New England-Style IPA is available on draft and in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans starting today.

Thick Haze New England-Style IPA was born from pumping insane amounts of hops into an unfiltered, hand-crafted IPA. As it pours, a massively thick fog of hops fills the glass and you can see exactly what you’re getting yourself into. A giant hop-ness monster of a beer, Thick Haze IPA rolls onto the palate with intense flavors of pineapple, melon and mango. The big, tropical flavors emanate from Galaxy, Cashmere, Calypso and Eureka hops added during the dry-hopping process at an almost supernatural amplitude. Aftershocks of the hazy, hoppy hit to the face are citrus notes of grapefruit juice, tangerine and lemon peel.

Oskar Blues Head Brewer Juice Drapeau is no stranger to the New England IPA style, as he hails from Maine where immoderate use of hops is the norm (or as Juice would say, “Hawps”).

“We crafted Thick Haze to be the ultimate beast of a New England IPA – a full-blown freakout for hops,” said Drapeau. “We layered the hop profile to maximize all of the flavors we are diggin’ right now – tropical fruit, melon and citrus.”

Find Thick Haze New England-Style IPA on draft and in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans now. Please direct all media inquiries to Aaron Baker at aaron@oskarblues.com.

Founded in 1997 by Dale Katechis in Lyons, Colorado, Oskar Blues Brewery launched the craft-beer-in-a-can apocalypse with their hand-canned flagship brew, Dale’s Pale Ale. Ficks Beverage Co. Releases Mango Hard Seltzer Flavor

October 12, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Ficks Beverage Co. Releases Mango Hard Seltzer Flavor

SAN FRANCISCO– Ficks Beverage Co., the first hard seltzer flavored with real fruit juice, has just announced that their new mango flavor will hit shelves this week. The launch marks another refreshing choice to the brand’s existing lineup of celebrated hard seltzer flavors, including cranberry, lime, grapefruit, and blackberry.

After testing a variety of mangoes from different regions, Ficks’ founders Ron Alvarado and Mike Williamson landed on mangoes from Ecuador, which provided the purest, most robust mango flavor without the need for artificial additives. In line with the brand’s tradition of “zero added sugar,” the mango seltzer is made solely from Ecuadorean mango purée, pure lime juice, sparkling water, and a proprietary alcohol base made from fermented California oranges. The result is a smooth, sweet sip designed to transport customers to a tropical destination from the comfort of home.

“We’re committed to quality in both our use of actual fruit for flavoring, and our unique fermentation process inspired by the winemaking techniques used in our backyard of Sonoma County,” said Williamson. “When creating our mango flavor, we wanted it to stand out from other popular varieties on the market, so we experimented for a long time to find the most flavorful mangoes, and to ensure that this would stand out as an authentic-tasting alternative in the hard seltzer category.”

So far, 2020 has marked significant growth for the Bay Area-based Ficks, as the real fruit hard seltzer maker witnessed 300% growth in same-store revenue while outselling national brands in major chains. 2020 will also mark the first year in which Ficks exceeds $1 million in revenue.

Outside their home market of California, Ficks is distributed to popular retailers throughout Texas, Washington and Arizona and aims to continue expansion throughout the Western U.S. in 2021 through their relationship with Kroger and other chain retailers like Albertsons, Target, HEB, Whole Foods, and more. The company also partnered with Drizly to allow for direct delivery to customers this year.

Hard seltzer continues to dominate alcohol sales in the United States, and consumption is expected to more than triple by 2023. Ficks will continue to add new flavors, taking a measured, steady approach to ensure the best possible taste and highest possible quality, while remaining one of the only hard seltzers on the market that doesn’t use malt liquor, added sugar, or chemical preservatives.
