Highland Debuts New Spring Seasonal – Berryful Fruited Ale

February 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina – North Carolina’s largest native brewer is announcing the release of Berryful – a fruited ale with tart blueberries. It is the latest addition to Highland brewery’s seasonal lineup and is available now in 6-packs across Highland’s Southeastern distribution footprint.

Shane Cummings, Highland’s Innovation Brewing Manager said, “Berryful is a clean and tart blueberry fruited ale. We highlight this beer with an abundance of blueberries to saturate the palate with ripe blueberry notes. Wine-like and succinct.”

At 5% ABV, Berryful is refreshing for spring with a bright and fruity flavor. The beer was made with pilsner malt, white wheat, and Apollo hops. These ingredients create a foundation for the blueberry flavor and color to shine.

Highland’s seasonal lineup features four rotating beers including classics like Clawhammer Oktoberfest and two new additions that will be announced later this year.

Berryful is available at the brewery and at retail stores throughout the Southeast until June.

ABOUT HIGHLAND BREWING

Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s now booming craft beer industry. Proudly regional, Highland’s beers are distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Highland is committed to quality and sustainability, boasting the sixth-largest solar array in an American craft brewery. Today, the company is led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and serves as the largest independent, family-owned, and operated brewery native to the Southeast. Located in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility in East Asheville, the brewery affords space for visitors to enjoy limited-release beers, walking trails, volleyball courts, and live music.

Full Circle Brewing and Sonoma Cider Partner with ByBlack

February 17, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

FRESNO, California –– Full Circle Brewing and Sonoma Cider are excited to partner with ByBlack, powered by U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC) to release a beer and cider under its Sonoma Cider brand in celebration of Black History Month.

The partnership hopes to increase the visibility of Black-owned breweries and address the under-representation of Blacks in the craft beer and cider industry, which is less than 1% Black-owned.

The new brew and cider will be available February 1st at Full Circle Brewing in Fresno, CA and at national retailers Costco, Safeway, Raleys, Bevmo, and TotalWine. You can also purchase online at www.fullcirclebrewing.com. The ByBlack x Full Circle Brewing Black History Month special edition will be named Juicy Vibes Hazy Pale Ale and The Sickle Pineapple Cider.

“Our goal is not only to support our community but also spread awareness about Black businesses and how we can build together through collaboration,” said Alicea Gay, VP of External Affairs at ByBlack. “We are excited about this partnership and look forward to seeing what else comes from it.”

This marks the third year of special releases from Full Circle celebrating Black History Month, and the most exciting partnership yet with ByBlack and USBC, two premier organizations helping to promote the growth and economic agenda for Black-Owned businesses throughout the nation.

Full Circle Brewing Co. CEO Arthur Moye explains “This partnership is about charting a path for success for other minority owned breweries who have historically been underrepresented, representing less than 1% of the nearly 9,000 breweries in the country. We strongly believe representation matters and are proud to be officially certified as a ByBlack Black-owned business.”

Of the 1% of Black Owned Breweries many are small and local, few are able to make the jump to full scale production breweries servicing Big Box Retailers. This gap is due to historical issues of Access to Capital in the Black Community. Full Circle Brewing Co. and Sonoma Cider have bridged that gap by leveraging Crowd Equity, and encouraging others to follow suit.

This collaborative beer marks a milestone for Fresno’s longest running brewery in their mission to spread the spirit of authenticity by building a network of real people with positive vibes and positive tribes that push away the negativity that too frequently guides people in this world.

This release marks the start of more innovative collaborations celebrating Black breweries planned for 2023 from Full Circle Brewing.

Questions about the collaboration and release can be directed to Adam Band at adam@fullcirclebrewing.com.

Bale Breaker Brewing’s Frenz Collaboration Series: Bigger and Better Than Ever in 2023

February 16, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

Yakima, Washington – Bale Breaker Brewing Company, a family-owned brewery located in the beautiful Yakima Valley, is excited to announce the lineup for 2023’s Frenz Collaboration Series. First up, releasing on February 10th, is a collaboration with long-time friends and mentors, Georgetown Brewing.

2023 is a big year for the Yakima Valley brewery: 10 years ago, they opened their doors for the first time. With a big year of releases ahead of them in their anniversary year, they knew they had to go big with their Frenz series. 2023’s Frenz series is extremely special to the brewery: all three collaborations planned for 2023 will be collaborations with longtime heroes of the brand – these are the breweries that acted as mentors when Bale Breaker was first starting out, and have since grown into lifelong friendships.

This year’s Frenz cans will have a new look that nods to the fact that this year’s partnerships feature the brewery’s heroes. The collaborations you can look forward to ahead:

  • Frenz with Georgetown, Releasing February 10th, 2023
  • Frenz with Sierra Nevada, Releasing June 2023
  • Frenz with Russian River, Releasing Fall 2023

The Georgetown collaboration is particularly special: back in 2016, the very first Frenz collaboration brewed was a draft-only beer made with Georgetown. The artwork may have changed (check out the original tap handle magnet from 2016) but the sentiment remains the same: these beers are made with Frenz, to be enjoyed with Frenz.

Frenz with Georgetown is releasing Friday, February 10th, at both their Yakima and Seattle taprooms, as well as receiving larger distribution throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho later in the month. The Seattle release party will have crew from Bale Breaker and Georgetown Brewing on site, while the Yakima release party will feature prizes from both Bale Breaker and Georgetown Brewing raffled off throughout the night. Both taprooms will have food trucks on site during the release party. To find the beer outside of the taprooms, check out Bale Breaker’s online beer finder later in the month. Washington customers can also order the beer to be shipped directly to them from Bale Breaker via their online store.

About Frenz with Georgetown IPA:
We’re celebrating 10 years of Bale Breaker in 2023 by supersizing our Frenz Collaboration Series, brewing with our beer industry heroes. First up: Georgetown Brewing, who we brewed the very first batch of Frenz with back in 2016. This IPA brings big citrus energy with juicy fruit and pine notes. Hopped with Mosaic®, Citra®, Sabro™, and HBC 735 for grapefruit, pine, and pineapple notes.

About Bale Breaker
Crafting fresh-off-the-farm brews from the middle of a hop field, Bale Breaker Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery located in the beautiful Yakima Valley. With a 30-barrel brewhouse at a 27,000 square foot facility, Bale Breaker crafts seven year-round canned beers, including the widely celebrated Topcutter IPA, and a diverse offering of seasonal beers in cans and on draft. They have two taprooms: one onsite at the Yakima brewery; and another in Seattle’s Ballard Brewing District. Eight Beers for Eight Years: WeldWerks Celebrates 8-Years March 3-5

February 15, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

GREELEY, Colorado – WeldWerks Brewing Co. will be celebrating eight years of slinging beers Friday, March 3 – Sunday, March 5. The weekend-long bash includes eight anniversary beer releases to commemorate the occasion, specialty tappings, and a Sunday WeldWerks Anniversary Beer Brunch on March 5.

“It’s really wild to step back and realize that 8 years have passed! When we first began we were hoping that we might have a little success as a small, local watering hole,” says WeldWerks Director of Events and Experience Kristin Popcheff. “Now, to see how we’ve grown, from our staff and facility, relationships with breweries that we’ve long admired, and fanbase growing to a national level, has been incredibly humbling and exciting.”

Bottle releases: (all bottle releases available in person)

  • Born in the Drop (collaboration with Equilibrium Brewery): Born in the Drop started as an Imperial Stout aged 29 months in 8-year Blanton’s bourbon barrels. This decadent beer is a blend of base recipes for WeldWerks’ beloved Medianoche and Equilibrium’s Imperial Barrel-Aged Stout. After the aging process, the beer was conditioned on marshmallow cream, chopped walnuts, cacao nibs, and a touch of maple syrup.
  • EH Taylor Medianoche: EHT Medianoche features a blend of WeldWerks’ flagship Imperial Stout aged in barrels that were used to produce the historic bourbon named after Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr., who is considered by many to be the “Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry.” The barrels for this blend consisted exclusively of casks used to age E.H. Taylor bottled-in-bond bourbon for over six years. After resting Medianoche for nearly 27 months in these iconic E.H. Taylor bourbon casks, the final product expresses notes of caramel chocolate fudge, maple drizzled popcorn, cinnamon churros, and glazed apricots.
  • Caramel Vanilla Latte Medianoche: Caramel Vanilla Latte Medianoche started as a blend of Imperial Stouts aged 25-27 months in freshly-emptied 6-year E.H. Taylor Bourbon, 15-year Blanton’s Bourbon, and 10-year Eagle Rare Bourbon barrels. After aging, this blend was conditioned on Madagascar vanilla beans, caramel syrup, and cold-brewed espresso. Lending heavy notes of salted caramel, crème brûlée, rich coffee, and light macadamia nut, CVLM is truly reminiscent of your favorite iced Caramel Vanilla Latte

Specialty tapping/draft only:

  • Single Barrel Medianoche: Candy Bar Medianoche aged in a freshly emptied 15-year Sazerac Rye barrel for 30 months. After aging, the beer was conditioned on caramel, roasted peanuts, and milk chocolate to produce your favorite candy bar in liquid form

Collaboration beer releases:

  • Thunder Snacks (collaboration with Pinthouse Brewing): Hazy India Pale Ale brewed with the following hops: Mosaic, Simcoe, Cryo, Frozen Fresh Hop and Incognito.
  • Lumber Juice (collaboration with Great Notion Brewing): Hazy Double India Pale Ale brewed with extra oats and milk sugar.
  • This is a Pale Ale (collaboration with Our Mutual Friend Brewing): Old school clear Pale Ale

After a weekend of partying, join the crew for a WeldWerks Anniversary Beer Brunch on Sunday, March 5. This will be a limited seating, ticketed event via Eventbrite. More details to come!

“We’re thrilled to have made it to eight years and we’re already cooking up some fun plans for year ten!” says Popcheff.

Cheerwine and NoDa Brewing Company Introduce Cheerwine Ale

February 13, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

SALISBURY, North Carolina – Two of North Carolina’s most popular family-owned beverage companies are giving Carolinians something to ‘cheer’ about when Cheerwine Ale hits retailers’ shelves today.

Cheerwine, the iconic 106-year-old cherry soda from Salisbury, N.C., and popular Charlotte-based brewery NoDa Brewing Company’s Cheerwine Ale (5.2% ABV | 18 IBUs), is a crisp, refreshing wheat ale infused with the South’s favorite cherry soda.

“Cheerwine makes the perfect ingredient in food and beverages because its unique cherry flavor complements so many different tastes,” says Joy Ritchie Harper, vice-president of marketing for Cheerwine and fifth-generation founding family member. “For years, people have incorporated Cheerwine into barbecue sauces, cocktails, desserts and more, and now we’re adding beer to that list.”

Cheerwine Ale, which is great for craft beer novices and experts alike, is a smooth-drinking, well-balanced brew with a perfect amount of Cheerwine that doesn’t overpower the beer’s flavor. Cheerwine Ale will be part of NoDa Brewing Company’s year-round lineup.

“Cheerwine and NoDa are synonymous with North Carolina, and both our fan bases have fond memories of enjoying our beverages during their most cheerful times – from summer vacations to the holidays and all points in between,” says Jacob Virgil, director of strategic development for NoDa Brewing Company. “Similarly, Cheerwine Ale can be enjoyed year round – it’s an approachable craft beer perfect for all occasions. We’re excited to bring fans the perfect marriage of these two North Carolina staples.”

“Like Cheerwine, NoDa is an iconic Carolina original. As one of Charlotte’s first craft breweries, it’s a classic brand led by passionate people and the perfect partner to produce a Cheerwine-infused beer,” says Harper.

Cheerwine Ale, which comes in 16 oz. four-pack cans, is now available at select North Carolina retailers. It’s also available on draft at a number of Charlotte and Triangle restaurants and bars, as well as the brewery’s Charlotte and Chapel Hill taprooms.

Over the coming weeks, Cheerwine Ale will roll out in additional North Carolina retailers and throughout South Carolina.

Cheerwine: Uniquely SouthernCreated in 1917 by L.D. Peeler, Cheerwine is a one-of-a-kind soft drink with a unique cherry flavor. It is an iconic brand from Salisbury, North Carolina. Stone Brewing and Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Announce Partnership

February 10, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

Bulleit Frontier Whiskey and Stone Brewing officially announce their partnership. The collaboration initially kicked off in December 2022 with the release of the highly exclusive Stone One Batch Dispatch: Gimme Yule Gimme Fire Barrel-Aged Bock. This limited time offer beer was aged in Bulleit Rye Whiskey barrels, and sold exclusively online and at Stone Brewing locations.

Through this partnership, Stone Brewing and Bulleit Frontier Whiskey showcase their most complementary offerings through the unique craft experience of beer and a shot. Following the Gimme Yule Gimme Fire Barrel-Aged Bock, Stone announced the release of two year-round beers to accompany its hugely popular Stone Delicious IPA. The gluten-reduced West Coast Style IPA is now joined by Stone Delicious Double IPA and Stone Delicious Citrus IPA in a format hardly seen on shelves – a variety can six-pack. Thanks to their distinct citrus personalities and balanced malt bill, all three beers make delicious accompaniments to a wide array of foods and whiskeys. Stone’s year-round beers can now be found merchandised alongside Bulleit Frontier Whiskey, providing the perfect pairing for a beer and a shot.

“Bulleit Frontier Whiskey is such a reputable and well-respected brand, we’re honored to offer our beers alongside their whiskeys,” stated Erin Smith, Stone Brewing VP of Marketing. “When we take on partnerships, it’s with brands that value their fans and commit to quality like we do. The experience of Stone and Bulleit together at the table is special, and we hope it enlightens a few new fans!”

Beyond the popularity of the whiskey and beer combination, the two partners celebrate a shared focus on sustainability. With a guiding tenet of replenishing and protecting natural resources, Bulleit’s Distilling Co. in Shelbyville, Kentucky, has pioneered processes that reduce carbon emissions, conserve water and manage waste during production. In its distillery in Lebanon, Kentucky, Bulleit does not consume any fossil fuels to produce its whiskeys. Additionally, Bulleit recently launched its commitment to improving Tree Equity in neighborhoods across the nation with a tree planting event in Houston, Texas. Stone Brewing is equally committed to minimizing its environmental impact through its world-class water reclamation, LEED Certification, creative uses of spent grain, philanthropic support, and more.

“We’re incredibly excited to extend our Bulleit & Beer program with Stone Brewing,” said Johannah Rogers, Global Brand Director at Diageo North America. “As a brand that places a unique focus on responsibly crafting delicious beers, Stone reflects Bulleit’s values of designing environmentally friendly initiatives to create the best products.”

Make sure to follow @Bulleit and @stonebrewing to stay updated.

Bulleit Frontier Whiskey and Stone Brewing remind consumers 21+ to drink responsibly, when choosing to drink.

About Bulleit Frontier Whiskey

Bulleit, founded in 1987, is one of the fastest-growing whiskeys in America. The brand attributes that growth to bartenders and cultural partners who have adopted it as their own. The Bulleit Frontier Whiskey portfolio is distilled and aged in the Bulleit family tradition, using a distinctive high rye recipe, which gives them a bold, spicy, yet distinctively smooth taste. The award-winning Kentucky whiskey most recently won a Double Gold medal for Bulleit 10 Year Old and Gold Medals for Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
