Capital Brewery in Middleton, Wisconsin Releases 2018 Fishin’ in the Dark

May 3, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

Middleton, Wisconsin – Just in time for the opening day of the fishing season – and the start of Madison Craft Beer Week – Capital Brewery is releasing Fishin’ in the Dark.

The celebration starts this Friday May 4th at 3pm in the Capital Brewery Bier Garten. At 4pm Chef Jason from Adamah Neighborhood Table will be sampling a very limited amount of his special burger creation, which will be paired with Fishin’ in the Dark for the REAP Food Group Burgers & Brews on June 2nd & 3rd at Capital Brewery. At 5:30pm learn how flys are tied, see a master caster, and dream about what kind of lunker you could catch (if you got lucky), with Kyle Zemple of Black Earth Angling Company. Enjoy live music by Antonio Salerno from 6 to 9pm.

Fishin’ in the Dark was created by Capital Brewery’s Brewmaster, Ashley Kinart, almost a year before taking charge of the brewing operations. “When I was first asked to come up with my own beer, I thought I was just being rewarded for working hard and doing a good job. In retrospect, I think they were testing me out before my promotion,” she said.

Kinart had a variety of inspirations that went into the creation of this beer. “I knew I wanted to do a Schwarzbier because they are so crisp and clean but pack a ton of flavor. With a lighter bodied dark lager, I wanted to show that you can drink dark beers year-round. After coming up with a style, the name quickly followed. I wanted the beer to convey the feeling of having fun with someone you love – outdoors – at night – like Fishin’ in the Dark. It was also pretty challenging to find a German lager style Capital hadn’t done before,” said the brewmaster with a smile.

In its fifth year of availability, Fishin’ in the Dark has become one of the crowd favorites at numerous beer festivals. This Platinum Award-Winning beer clocks in at 7.5% ABV and finishes silky smooth. The current release of this small batch brew will be available in 12 ounce bottles and on draught. Although one of the newer additions to the Capital portfolio, it continues to be one of the most sought-after beers – so get it while you can.

Founded on March 14, 1984, Capital brewed its first batch of beer in the spring of 1986. The company has received over 240 major awards in both domestic and international competitions in over 20 categories, and Capital Wisconsin Amber beer has been available in cans since 1999. Capital was named ‘America’s #1 Rated Brewery’ by the Beverage Testing Institute at the World Beer Championships in 1998, and Grand National Champion in the 2013 US Open Beer Championship.
