Fiction Beer And Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii Create Cold Brew IPA

June 28, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Fiction Beer Fiction Beer Company and Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii are announcing the release of Talk-Song, a unique beer blending barrel-aged cold brewed coffee with an India Pale Ale instead of the more common pairing with a stout or a porter.

The creation of Talk-Song began months ago with tasting sessions of a variety of Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii’s single-origin Hawaiian coffees. Maui Red Catuai, known as the “cabernet of coffees,” was ultimately selected for its mild hint of spiciness and buttery, grapefruit subtleties that would pair well with the base IPA’s notes of citrus, chocolate and dark fruit.
Once selected, the green coffee beans were aged in bourbon barrels and rolled daily for several weeks to allow the flavors of the barrel to be absorbed before roasting. The beans were then roasted, cold brewed and added to the IPA just after fermentation. The aroma has notes of coffee and whiskey layered with citrus and the result is a complex blend of flavors with big earthy notes of citrus and vanilla, layers of chocolate and coconut with a refined coffee finish.

“When we get a chance to work with local companies that have as much passion as we do, special things can happen!” said Ryan Kilpatrick of Fiction Beer Company. “Our collab with Bad Ass Coffee is one of our most unique undertakings. Bringing together the complex characteristics of an IPA, coffee, and whiskey presented an exciting challenge. Together we were able to brew the right beer, roast the right beans, and impart just the right balance of whiskey flavor. You just have to try it; the beer is amazingly unique and tasty!”

Talk-Song will debut on Wednesday, June 30 at the Fiction Beer Company taproom at 7171 East Colfax Ave. in Denver. It will be available on draft, in 16-ounce 4 pack cans at select stores and as part of the online beer of the month subscription service called Beer Drop. People who stop by Fiction Beer Company through July 5 will have a chance to win one of several Bad Ass Coffee gift baskets featuring Maui Red Catuai and various Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii merchandise including shirts, hats and more.

Like all Fiction Beer Company brews, Talk-Song’s name has a strong connection to reading and storytelling. In this case, the name pays tribute to “Shark Dialogues,” a novel by Kiana Davenport. The book is considered a major contribution to the literature of the Pacific Rim.

“With Fiction Beer Company’s reputation as a badass brewer of nationally recognized and award-winning beers, we knew Fiction would be the perfect partner, especially when we started talking about releasing an IPA with our coffee,” said Chris Ruszkowski, vice president of marketing for Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii. “We are excited to collaborate with Fiction and show our commitment to our home market before we open our first Colorado locations.”

Under new ownership, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii relocated its headquarters from Salt Lake City to the Denver-area mid-2020. In addition to unique collaborations like the one with Fiction Beer Company, Bad Ass Coffee is pursuing an aggressive growth strategy for its franchises with plans to open 150 new coffee shops in five years.

Busch Re-Releases Busch Light Apple

June 27, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

BuschNew York – In 2020 Busch Light had a historic launch with the introduction of Busch Light Apple, the brand’s first ever flavor innovation. To celebrate the highly anticipated return this summer, the brand is delivering an epic product “drop” unlike any other. Busch is giving lucky fans access to Busch Light Apple before anyone else via Busch Light Apple airdrops. The first batch of Busch Light Apple will cascade from the clouds via a helicopter in the Northeast and Midwest at top-secret locations only accessible to the biggest Busch fans.

This refreshing-to-the-core apple flavored beer was only available for a limited time last year and it instantly became a must-buy for beer lovers and beyond, flying off shelves across the nation. Busch Light Apple’s flavor is one that transports drinkers to the place Busch fans love most, the great outdoors. So, this year Busch will be transporting the beer directly to some of those fans in outdoor locations via special airdrops. The airdrops will offer the perfect occasion for folks to enjoy their first Busch Light Apple of the season with friends in a picturesque setting right in the great outdoors.
“When we launched Busch’s first ever flavor innovation last year with Busch Light Apple, we were thrilled by the overwhelming consumer reaction. In fact, we completely sold out in just weeks,” said Daniel Blake, Group VP, Budweiser & Value at Anheuser-Busch “With hype continuing to grow around this year’s drop, we wanted to do something unforgettable that offered fans insider access like never before, and also give a few lucky fans a chance at the first batches of Apple just in time for the 4th of July.”

In 2020 Busch Light announced its Apple flavor with a clever keynote address, delivered by brand spokesperson, Busch Guy. The address introduced the new flavor and leaned into those iconic keynote tropes throughout, and the brand also reimagined its website with a sleek aesthetic. Busch even offered fans a special one-of-a-kind insurance program promotion on the new product, where lucky fans were awarded Busch Light Apple Beer Replacement Protection for their brew. This year’s Busch Light Apple airdrop is continuing with the same theme but bringing it to fans in a much bigger way.

LalBrew Farmhouse Releases Hybrid Saison-Style Yeast

June 25, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Lallemand BrewingCanada – LalBrew Farmhouse™ is a truly innovative hybrid beer yeast selected to make hassle free Saison beers and so much more. Eliminating the risk of cross contamination that comes with a diastatic yeast while retaining all characteristics that make Saison yeast so attractive: Flavor, aroma profile and high attenuation.

LalBrew Farmhouse™ is the result of the research and development work of Renaissance Yeast (Vancouver BC, Canada) and Lallemand Brewing first collaborative release. The Renaissance team used classical and non-GMO science to select a yeast which doesn’t have the STA1 gene, responsible for the diastatic activity of Saison yeasts resulting in a strain not being able to metabolize dextrins. Care was taken to retain normal brewing sugar utilization to produce dry Saison beer. Additionally, the patented technology from UC Davis (Davis CA, USA) ensures that the strain will not produce sulfurous off-flavors, therefore enhancing the Saison yeast aroma characteristics.

In line with the “We Brew With You®” concept, LalBrew Farmhouse™ represents a new addition to Lallemand Brewing’s portfolio of solutions to safely brew a wide variety of modern Saison and Farmhouse beer styles, and to give brewers opportunities to always create more diversity.

LalBrew Farmhouse™ is a pure culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae available in 500g and 11g sachets, with a recommended pitch rate of 50-100g per hL of wort, which is sufficient to achieve a minimum of 2.5-5 million viable cells/mL.

About Renaissance Yeast:
Renaissance Yeast (a subsidiary of Renaissance BioScience) is a brewer’s yeast technology company that is a world leader in the selective breeding of high-performing strains of brewer’s yeast to deliver the ideal characteristics for each distinct style of beer.

About Lallemand Brewing
Lallemand Brewing is a business unit of Lallemand Inc., a privately held Canadian company specializing in the research, development, production, marketing and distribution of yeast and bacteria. Lallemand Inc. has over 4000 employees located in more than 45 countries on 5 continents.

Epic Brewing Releases Rocky Mountain Chai

June 25, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Epic BrewingSALT LAKE CITY, Utah and DENVER, Color. – Come home to a beer you’ve never had before. Rocky Mountain Chai boasts uplifting spiced flavor with a cream ale finish that’s softer than a lullaby. This brew is the ideal sidekick for your next adventure down a country road or when you finally find yourself leaving on a jet plane again.

Our team wanted to create a beer as beautiful as the Rockies, so we mashed a mountain of malt bigger than Mount Elbert and boiled it down in dozens of camp kettles. The Carapils and Brewers malts bolster a transparent body that’s reminiscent of simpler times. Meanwhile, the Saaz and Nugget hops work in tandem to bring out a silky-smooth mouthfeel. To cap it off, an eruption of Chai in each sip might just make you feel born again.

Rocky Mountain Chai, a cream ale brewed with spices, will be poured into kegs, cans, and bottles, then distributed across America in June. The liquid will be found in kegs and 16oz cans nearly everywhere, but the 22oz bottles will be available exclusively in Utah. Rocky Mountain Chai will soon be available at finer beer and bottles shops near you.

Mother Earth Brewing Releases NITRO Barrel-aged Stout Under 4Seasons Label

June 24, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Mother Earth BrewingVista, CA & Nampa, ID – Mother Earth is welcoming summer by releasing one of its cult classics into a 16 oz can under its 4Seasons Barrel-aged program. ‘Quit Stalin’, as it’s cleverly called, is a Russian Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels that was formerly a draft-exclusive but is now making its way into package.

“Quit Stalin has been a customer favorite for a long time and we routinely get requests to make it more widely available in a can. Since our 4Seasons program is essentially built and fed off of Quit Stalin as a base (amongst other blending beers) it’s a natural marriage. This will give us the opportunity to see how well it stands on its own.”

– Kamron Khannakhjavani – Director of Marketing, Mother Earth Brew Co.

Consistent with what the brewery calls its “uber-premium” line of products, 4Seasons Summer arrives as a luscious NITRO variant; just the second in the 4S line to hold that distinction. Its NITRO creaminess further enhances a full body and the addition of brown sugar adds caramel sweetness to round out the roasted barley and coffee malt.

Summer ‘21 is available in 16oz cans and very limited draft at Mother Earth’s Nampa, Idaho tap room and wherever independent craft beers are sold.

About Mother Earth

Mother Earth Brew Co. develops hand crafted artisanal ales in year-round, as well as seasonal and specialty offerings. With multi-state as well as international distribution serviced by breweries in Vista, CA and Nampa, ID; Mother Earth’s award-winning beers help define and maintain the standard of excellence expected of independent craft brewers.

Dogfish Head & Surf Bagel Brew DelaWeAre Collaboration Beer

June 24, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Dogfish HeadRehoboth, Del. – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s Rehoboth brewpub, Brewings & Eats, collaborates with Surf Bagel, an iconic Delaware bagel shop, to brew DelaWeAre, a limited-edition black IPA benefitting the Delaware Brewers Guild. Clocking in at 6.3% ABV, DelaWeAre is brewed with an array of locally-grown malt, caraway seeds, black pepper and chopped pumpernickel bagels from Surf Bagel. Medium-bodied with a long, bittersweet finish, DelaWeAre boasts complex flavors of citrus, black pepper, caramel, fennel and anise. Releasing fromBrewings & Eats at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, DelaWeAre will be available for $17 per 4pk/16oz cans, while supplies last. A portion of proceeds from sales ofDelaWeAre will be donated to the Delaware Brewers Guild.

“When deciding on what to brew for the DelaWeAre project, it was instinctual to include Surf Bagel bagels in our IPA recipe,” said Bryan Selders, Brewing Ambassador at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats. “They’ve fueled so many brew days, we thought it was natural for the bagels to provide fuel for our yeast as well! The flavor profile of pumpernickel bagels is a beautiful pairing with a black IPA and together in one beer, it’s pure Delaware magic.”

Chock full of Delaware pride, theDelaWeAre initiative is a collective effort by the state’s independently owned breweries to raise funds and awareness for theDelaware Brewers Guild and local craft beer community. The Delaware Brewers Guild developed the base recipe forDela-We-Are and challenged the area’s brewers to put their personal twists on this First State-inspired IPA. While not many stipulations were set, theDelaware Brewers Guild asked that participating breweries create a beer reminiscent of Delaware culture; by utilizing locally-grown ingredients, working with a local chef or collaborating with a local business.Dogfish Head first released its version of DelaWeAre on draft in March. After much excitement from drinkers, the brewpub decided to re-release the beer in 4pk/16oz cans.

“The pandemic and its subsequent state-wide restrictions immensely impacted entrepreneurial companies that make beautiful and fresh local products, like craft breweries and Surf Bagel,” said Dogfish Head Founder & Brewer, Sam Calagione. “While many of the statewide restrictions in Delaware have been lifted, we believe theDela-We-Are initiative should live on. By brewing a second batch of DelaWeAre and releasing it in cans, we are hoping to not only draw more attention to the local breweries that lost business during the pandemic, but to show the world that craft brewers are strong, resilient individuals that are supportive of one another and determined to succeed, regardless of what life throws our way.”

Folks that stop by Brewings & Eats on Saturday, July 3, can not only pick up a 4pk of DelaWeAre, but they can enjoy the beer on draft alongside a delicious breakfast-themed special. Created in collaboration withSurf Bagel, the “Pumpernickel Up the Jams” breakfast sandwich features a limited-edition “Doughfish” bagel created exclusively for Dogfish Head with many of the same ingredients found in DelaWeAre – brewing grains, caraway seeds, peppercorns and more. Topped with local scrapple,Fifer Farm apple butter, Cabot white cheddar cheese, a poached egg and bitter greens, this special is sure to go fast. Grab one before they are gone!

Surf Bagel owner Dave Vitella believes that Sam and his team have set an example for those who have built businesses in coastal Delaware. “Not just for the successDogfish Head has,” said Vitella, “but for their commitment and love for the people who live and visit here. For them, for us, people come first. It’s gratifying to provide something that folks really enjoy and that showcases local interests and talents.Dogfish Head and Surf Bagel have been doing that for many years now. This new collaboration is a cool way to show our appreciation for the people who have been loyal to us for so long.”

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery:

Dogfish Head has proudly focused on brewing beers with culinary ingredients outside the Reinheitsgebot since the day it opened as the smallest American craft brewery nearly 25 years ago.Dogfish Head has grown into a top-20 craft brewery and won numerous awards throughout the years, includingWine Enthusiast’s 2015 Brewery of the Year and the James Beard Foundation Award for 2017 Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional.
