Celis Brewery Releases Grand Cru Tripel Ale

November 24, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

AUSTIN, Texas  – Celis Brewery will be re-releasing its seasonal Grand Cru Tripel Ale. The highly regardedBelgian-style Tripel was brewed with the same recipe created by Pierre Celis in 1967 in Hoegaarden, Belgium. This fall and winter seasonal beer will be available on draft in bars and restaurants, and it will also be available for the first time in cans throughout Texas.

Celis Grand Cru Tripel was first released by the original Celis Brewery in Austin during Autumn of 1992 using the same recipe as Pierre Celis brewed in Hoegaarden. Grand Cru developed a strong following among beer lovers all over the world during in the 1990s. Celis Grand Cru Tripel won several awards including a Silver medal at the 1998 World Beer Cup and Gold medal at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival (GABF).

“We are excited to reintroduce Celis Grand Cru this season, both on tap and now in cans,” says Christine Celis, founder of Celis Brewery. “Celis Grand Cru was the second beer my father created back in 1967 at Celis Brouwerij in Hoegaarden, and now we are brewing it for the second time in the new Celis brewery. The higher alcohol content of Grand Cru makes it an excellent style to be savored on special occasions. It is the perfect ale to take to holiday parties to impress your friends.”

True to its original recipe, Celis Grand Cru Tripel Ale is brewed with pale barley malts, along with Saaz and Cascade hops, and the same proprietary yeast strain that has been used in Celis White since 1965. Grand Cru has a smooth, silky body, malt aroma and rich taste with fruity. It has complex fruity flavors with spicy accents and a delicate sweetness with a lingering dry finish. Despite its relatively high alcohol by volume at 8.6 percent, it is a well-balanced ale without a boozy burn.

Now in cans, the award-winning seasonal Celis Grand Cru is easy to enjoy while at winter sports games, around camp fires, at cookouts, and at holiday parties. This is a traditional Belgian-style Tripel Ale is an ideal beer choice for festive winter gatherings and indulging in with friends during the colder months of the year. Pair it with rich, fatty, or creamy foods, like short ribs, roasted pork loin, or grilled lamb with a festive meal. It’s excellent with soft cheeses triple crème and deserts such as ginger spice cake.

Celis Grand Cru Tripel Ale will be available on draft and in cans in Texas from November 2018 until March 2019, while supplies last.
