Humboldt Chapter of Pink Boots Society to Release Collaboration Brew for International Women’s Day

February 19, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

PINK BOOTS SOCIETY PHILADELPHIA/FACEBOOK HUMBOLDT, Calif. — Ladies who are passionate about beer, this one’s for you.

The Humboldt Chapter of Pink Boots Society (PBS) has signed on to create a collaborative brew with local women of the craft beer community for PBS’s 2018 Collaboration Brew Day. The international event was created to raise the profile of women’s roles in the beer industry and dovetails with International Women’s Day on March 8th.

Co-hosting the inaugural Brew Day are: PBS Humboldt Chair, Meredith Maier, Talia Nachshon Clare, co-owners of Six Rivers Brewery, PBS Humboldt Co-chair, Jen McFerrin, marketing coordinator at the brewery and Talvi Fried, Humboldt Homebrewers’ public relations officer.

“We hope our fellow industry ladies will join us. All women who make a portion of their living in the beer industry, or homebrew, are invited to collaborate, no experience required,” said McFerrin.

Six Rivers Brewery Head Brewer, Carlos “Los” Sanchez, will oversee the brewing process which will utilize Pink Boots Blend, a proprietary hops blend exclusively selected for PBS Brew Day. Each chapter of PBS around the world will create their recipe from these hops.

The PBS Humboldt Collaborative Brew Day planning meeting is at Humboldt Bay Provisions, Wednesday, February 21 at 6pm. The group will decide on style of beer they will be brewing for the Brew Day, Saturday, March 3, at Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville, CA.

“We are one of the few female-owned breweries in California so this event is close to my heart,” said Clare. “I love bringing women together to network, especially women in the beer industry to learn more about the brewing process, and most of all to have fun while uniting symbolically with women in craft beer around the world.”

The brew, which is yet to be named, will be available at Six Rivers Brewery and at Siren Song in Eureka mid-March. A portion of the brew’s proceeds will be donated to Pink Boots Society International for educational scholarships with the rest remaining for PBS Humboldt events.

About PBS Brew Day
During the 2017 Great American Beer Festival in Denver, the Pink Boots Hops Blend was released to commercial brewers to encourage them to work with PBS members to create their own celebratory brews. This year’s blend includes Palisade, Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra and Loral. Each year, a new hops blend will be chosen during the harvest season by members of the Pink Boots Society.
