Lakewood Brewing Releases Grim Shearer

February 6, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

DALLAS — Lakewood Brewing Company is excited to release Grim Shearer, the final of three unique, wood-aged beers in a miniseries within their limited Legendary Series, which has spanned over 16 months. The Legendary Series is LBC’s specially brewed beers inspired by both worldly and local myths and legends, each brewed only once with the intention of never being brewed again.

The tenth individual release in the Legendary Series, and third & final installment in the Three Fates miniseries, Grim Shearer is a Rye Whiskey barrel-aged Rye Wine clocking in at 11.4% alc/vol. Gracefully aged over 8 months in rye whiskey barrels, it lends flavors of sun-dried cherries, toffee, maple, and a subtle spice from the rye.
“We’re excited to complete this story and series of beers, showcasing the amazing qualities that come with varying malt bills to complement the different barrels,” said Wim Bens, Founder & President of Lakewood Brewing Company.

The Trilogy chosen for this project is based on the famous legend of the Three Fates –Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. The three sisters determined the fates of both Gods and mortals alike with their infamous thread of life. One sister spun the thread (birth), one sister measured the thread (life), and one sister cut the thread (death). You can pair Grim Shearer with the other two offerings previously released in the miniseries – Thread Spinner Bourbon barrel-aged Barleywine (released fall of 2016) and Grand Allowance Chardonnay barrel-agedWheat Wine (released spring of 2017) – for an epic vertical experience.

“We love seeing how the personality of each beer comes through, how the difference in age and cellar time influences each beer, and how they relate to each other when tried side-by-side,”said Bens. “It’s been a long project, but one we’ve really enjoyed.”

The brewery once again enlisted the artistic talents of illustrator Nathan Walker to create the visually dynamic bottle art for the series. “Nathan’s art is so rich and visually dynamic, and fans have loved the previous bottle art,” stated Bens. “Now you’re able to put all three bottles together for a beautiful, eye-catching triptych.” LBC has also used Walker’s illustrations for their Seduction Series and DFW collaboration brews.

Collectors and craft beer fans can enjoy Grim Shearer, now available in select craft retailers, both on draft and in 22oz bottles across DFW.
