Seedstock Brewery Claims Third Best Beer of 2018 by Beer Connoisseur

January 18, 2019 by Rick Roberts

Seedstock Brewery’s Dusseldorf Alt was named the third best beer on Beer Connoisseur’s Top 100 Beers of 2018 list, while the brewery’s Oktoberfest was named as the 33rd best beer of 2018. The old-world brewery was the only Denver-based brewery to grace the list, which includes domestic and international breweries.

“From the day we opened our doors, our goal has been to bring our family’s old-world recipes to craft beer drinkers and non-craft beer drinkers alike,” said Seedstock Owner Ron Abbott. “It’s a honor to win two such high accolades for traditional German-style beers. We’re so very humbled and excited to continue to share our recipes with the world.”

In celebration of the honor, Seedstock Brewery will be re-releasing the Dusseldorf Alt on Jan. 25. At 5.0-percent ABV, this German-style beer has a clean, malty aroma with a very slight hint of fruitiness. It is assertive in its hop bitterness and balanced by a clean, bready malt character. The long-lasting, dry finish makes it a very sessionable beer.

According to Beer Connessiour’s Michael Bury review of the Dusseldorf Alt, “It’s a shame that currently you can only get the beer in the immediate Colorado area. However, this supports the notion of patronizing your local brewery, and anyone in the Denver area would be more than satisfied by a visit.”

Seedstock’s Oktoberfest is a traditional Marzen-style that has been served at Oktoberfest celebrations since 1872. The Seedstock Oktoberfest is a malty, amber German-style lager with a rich, toasty and bready flavor. It has a soft bitterness and a clean, dry finish with a 6.1-percent ABV.

Seedstock’s Dusseldorf Atl scored a 97 from reviewers and the Oktoberfest scored a 95. A review of 100-96 is considered “World Class” and 95-91 is considered “Exceptional.”
