Miami’s Wynwood Brewing to Release Lock On Lager Year-Round

March 7, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

MIAMI, Florida — Wynwood Brewing Co. is proud to introduce Lock On, a dry hopped lager which clocks at 5.1% ABV and 41 IBUs, to its core beer portfolio. Aimed to compliment Wynwood’s year-round beers with best-of-both-worlds lightness and hoppiness, this refreshing lager delivers a floral hop aroma with a smooth body that will pair excellently with Miami’s weather all year.

Beginning in mid-January, Wynwood will be offering Lock On Lager in their taproom and at bars and restaurants around South Florida in draught, as well as hosting unique events to introduce beer enthusiasts to the newest member of its beer family.

The name Lock On references a genre of street art where artists create installations by attaching sculptures to public furniture using lengths of chain and old bike locks. As an homage to this art form, Wynwood Brewing took an unassuming lager brewed with Pilsner and Vienna malts and locked on heavy doses of Citra hops, dry hopping it with a pound per barrel. The result is a clean crisp lager with big citrus and floral hop aroma. You’ll need a bolt cutter to remove these hop flavors from your palate!

Luis Brignoni, founder of Wynwood Brewing Co., shares the story behind the beer, “We wanted to brew a beer that was light and hoppy and not limited ‘to style.’ Like most of our beers, we brewed what we wanted to drink, combining what we do great — lagers and hops. Our brewmaster Nik has a passion for creating amazing lagers and a serious love of hops, so we added some vibrant american hops to this beer. That’s how we came up with Lock On.”

Wynwood Brewing’s brewmaster Nik Mebane commented: “Lock On Lager was an idea that we were throwing around when the summer months were starting to kick in. It was prime beach season, and the heat was getting to us so we wanted to make something refreshing and light bodied but still have the juicy flavor we love in our dry-hopped pale ales and IPAs. We wanted to make a beer that you could drink throughout the day in the sun, on the beach, by the pool, but that still has a nice hoppy character.”

In regards to the name, Mebane added, “I got the inspiration for the name from our neighborhood. It’s impossible to walk anywhere in Wynwood without seeing some type of street art so I wanted to pay homage to that.”
