This Top Ten Barrel Aged Stouts list is from the results of the U.S. Open Beer Championship, Great American Beer Festival, and the World Beer Cup. A barrel-aged strong stout is any of the traditional stronger stout styles that have been aged for a period of time in a wooden barrel. Barrel-aged strong stouts will be characteristically dark. These stouts are aged with the intention of imparting the particularly unique character of the barrel. Used sherry, bourbon, scotch, port, wine, and other barrels are often used, imparting complexity and uniqueness to beer. ABV: 7%-18%.
