JuneShine Launches New Seasonal Flavor, Cran Apple Cinnamon Kombucha

September 30, 2020 by Dow Scoggins

JuneShine Cran Apple Cinnamon KombuchaSAN DIEGO — The San-Diego based leading Hard Kombucha brand JuneShine revealed its latest, and highly-anticipated Fall flavor: JuneShine Cran Apple Cinnamon. Further solidifying JuneShine as a year-round beverage, the newest flavor mixes apples, cranberries and cinnamon into JuneShine’s signature formulation of green tea, cane sugar, honey, and a Jun kombucha base to create a crisp, unique profile that tastes like Autumn in a can – available for a limited time only.

JuneShine’s seasonal flavor was created in collaboration with nonprofit Protect Our Winters (POW) and Professional Skier, Artist and JuneShine Ambassador Chris Benchetler. POW was founded in 2007 by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones, on a mission to turn outdoor enthusiasts into climate activists by encouraging them to protect the places and lifestyles they love from climate change. 4 percent of all Cran Apple Cinnamon sales will go to POW, serving as a testament to JuneShine’s commitment to combating the climate crisis.

Chris Benchetler, professional backcountry skier, filmmaker, and JuneShine ambassador, also played an integral role in the creation of JuneShine’s latest flavor, not only as a POW athlete, but also designing the Cran Apple Cinnamon can art. “I care so much about the food I eat and where it’s coming from so to have a drink that reflects that, has good organic ingredients plus all my inspirations as an artist and as a skier—and it’s giving back to Protect Our Winters—is just like a perfect combination of all the things I care about,” said Benchleter.

The launch of JuneShine Cran Apple Cinnamon is just one of the many ways JuneShine has dedicated its business to helping further environmental initiatives. After becoming the country’s #1 selling brand family in the Hard Kombucha space, JuneShine is now on a mission to become the most sustainable brewery in the industry. Since the brand’s inception, JuneShine has made sustainability a key pillar of the company by powering the brewery with 100% renewable energy through SDG&E’s EcoChoice, donating 1% of all sales to 1% For The Planet, planting trees to replace those used in the production of JuneShine cartons, and using 100% organic ingredients across all products. In addition to JuneShine’s current eco-focused initiatives, the brand recently shared six key sustainability goals they have committed to by 2022. These goals include improving energy and water efficiency by 20 percent, improving direct and indirect sources of carbon emission by 20 percent, diverting 100 percent of solid waste from landfills, continuing to improve community health, and implementing an environmentally preferable purchasing (EPP) policy.

“The effects of climate change are evident to us on the West Coast. As I write this, the forests and mountains in our backyard are burning,” said Forrest Dein, CCO and Co-Founder of Juneshine. “We founded JuneShine to help reverse the effects of climate change—to brew honest alcohol for a healthier planet—through our business practices and through powerful collaborations like this one with Chris and Protect Our Winters.”

Available for $5.99 per single-serve 16oz can, Cran Apple Cinnamon will be available the first week of October in select retail locations across 25 states for a limited time as well as online via direct-to-consumer delivery. Consumers can visit JuneShine’s Store Locator to find where StoneShine is available in their city. To learn more about the brand, visit juneshine.com.

Perrin Brewing Company Releases Malted Milk Ball Imperial Porter & Anniversary Ale

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — Perrin Brewing Company is toasting their eighth anniversary with two specialty beers: Malted Milk Ball Imperial Porter and Anniversary Amber Ale. Both limited release beers are available at the Pub starting today.

Malted Milk Ball was the first beer brewed at Perrin in 2012. A classic treat deconstructed and brewed back together via vanilla, cacao nibs and lactose, Malted Milk Ball is barrel aged in oak bourbon barrels to a rich, mellow 12% ABV.

“Malted Milk Ball debuted at Perrin’s Grand Opening, and has since become a yearly anniversary favorite,” said Director of Brewing Operations Connor Klopcic. “It pairs well with any sort of chocolate dish, particularly malted milk ball candies.” Malted Milk Ball appears in 22 oz. bottles in the Pub, and for Michigan-wide distribution.

This year’s Anniversary Amber Ale (6% ABV) uses five unique specialty malts and German Ariana hops for a complex, malt-forward Amber, with notes of gooseberries, black currant and a pleasant hop aroma. Anniversary Ale is Perrin’s toast to liquid craftsmanship, and to craft beer lovers everywhere.

“It is always a great day when we can gather in Perrin’s backyard to celebrate our anniversary and end of summer. Not being able to do that this year is tough, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate,” said Klopcic. “Like all Perrin beers, Anniversary Amber Ale is meant to be enjoyed for good times, with good people. I hope folks enjoy it in their own backyards with friends and family.” Anniversary Amber Ale is available in 6-packs and on draft for a limited time, only at the Pub.

Stop by the Perrin Pub to pick up Malted Milk Ball Imperial Porter and Anniversary Amber Ale today.

Mother Earth Brewing Company Drops Newest Salted Caramel Stout as Part of 4Seasons Barrel-aged Program

September 30, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Mother Earth Brewing Company Drops Newest Salted Caramel Stout as Part of 4Seasons Barrel-aged Program

VISTA, Calif. and NAMPA, Idaho– Mother Earth is releasing a decadent new brew as part of their 4Seasons series. The Autumn ’20 vintage is a Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Salted Caramel Oatmeal Stout. The brewery admits it’s not just a mouthful to describe, the beer is both dinner AND desert.

At 11.2%, its base is a blend of various big stouts aged no less than 6 months and derived from their cleverly named year-round Russian Imperial Stout, ‘Quit Stalin’. Consistent with past vintages in the series, the flavored stout was no easy task to formulate.

“This was one of those recipes that was really fun to put together. Doing trials for salted caramel may sound like a dream come true, but it’s actually really difficult to find a product that can simulate those flavors without dumping 100 lbs. of Halloween candy into the brew. The take-home is that scalability is often the limiting factor when using adjuncts, but in this case I think we knocked it out of the park.”

-Chris Baker – Director of Brewing Operations, Mother Earth

C. Baker further describes the brew as jet black, full-bodied & creamy, with a rich caramel sweetness balanced by a salty finish & oaky undertones. The malt and caramel melanoidins are accompanied by burnt sugar, chocolate, and roasted coffee flavors, with dark fruit dancing in the background reminiscent of over-ripe figs and cherries.

Shipping began this week in 16oz cans and a very limited number of sixth bbl kegs. Customers looking for 4Seasons Autumn ’20 are able to search near them using Mother Earth’s interactive Beer Finder at findmotherearthbrewing.com.

Stay tuned for additional announcements from one of America’s finest independent craft breweries, Mother Earth Brewing Company.

Farmers Brewing Co. Releases Fall Harvest Oktoberfest

PRINCETON, Calif.– Fall Harvest, named after the busiest time of the year for farmers, will be released by Farmers Brewing Co. on Oct. 1. Fall Harvest is an Oktoberfest with an American twist to the traditional German-style beer and will be available in six-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft in Northern California where Farmers Brewing is currently sold.

Brewed with estate grown wheat and toasted rice from the family farm, Fall Harvest is unlike most Oktoberfests. While this beer is rich in malt flavor, the subtle sweet aromas of caramel and freshly baked goods signify the arrival of fall.

At 5.7% ABV and 23 IBU’s, Fall Harvest is light, easy to drink and embodies the Farmers Brewing Co. style. Fall Harvest is the first seasonal variety to be canned at FBCO.

“We have been waiting a long time to finally brew this beer on our new system and couldn’t be happier with the results,” said Bill Weller, founder of FBCO.

Eagle Rock Brewery and Norwalk Brew House Release Love Fights Back

September 29, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Eagle Rock Brewery and Norwalk Brew House Release Love Fights Back

LOS ANGELES – Eagle Rock Brewery (ERB) and Norwalk Brew House (NBH) team up with legendary LA hip-hop artist, 2Mex, to release Love Fights Back; a collaboration beer with proceeds to support LA-based non-profit Urban Peace Institute.

Love Fights Back — a delicious guava/mango blonde ale, accented with citrus zest. Perfect for the summertime weather; brewed to appeal to seasoned craft beer fans and casual drinkers alike. Love Fights Back will be available early October in 16 oz cans. 4-packs to-go will be available at Eagle Rock Brewery, as well as at select California retailers.

Love Fights Back brings together three Los Angeles brands, leveraging craft beer and music in an effort to make a positive contribution to the fight for social and racial equality. In the wake of the unjust murder of George Floyd, millions of Americans took to the streets in protest. Overwhelmed by the daily barrage of news coverage showing law enforcement unapologetically being violent against peaceful protesters; Norwalk Brew House founder, Ray Ricky Rivera, kept asking — “what can I do?”

Sharing his thoughts via email with ERB founders, Jeremy Raub and Ting Su, the two immediately reciprocated the sentiment and the idea to collaborate was born. ERB has long been established as a respected LA brewery whose dedication to community is at the company’s core. No stranger to supporting social causes, ERB’s values and high standards for consistently crafting quality beer makes them the perfect collaborator.

In his song, “Love Fights Back,” 2Mex poetically raps; “when all else fails, love fights back, when ignorance prevails, love fights back.” A mainstay in the LA hip-hop scene, 2Mex has never shied away from voicing his opinion on racial injustice. His theme of Love Fights Back fully captures what ERB and NBH set out to do.

Beer buyers will be able to download “Let’s Take a Walk,” a free song via QR code on the can label. The song is produced by famed producer/musician, John Avila (Oingo Boingo, Reel Big Fish). The song discusses the idea of utilizing love as a vehicle for change. It features various musicians of color including: rapper Viva Mescal, singer Jimetta Rose, singer Scarlett Brais (Scarlett & the Fever), Grammy winning drummer Andy Mendoza (Ozomatli/Quetzal) and many others. Proceeds from this collaboration will support the Urban Peace Institute’s efforts to end systemic racism, re-imagine public safety, and promote community health. Label art designed by Fury Fellowship Creative Director, Jose Suaste.

About Eagle Rock Brewery
When Eagle Rock Brewery opened its doors in 2009, it became the first microbrewery in decades to base its operations in the city of Los Angeles. “It was an exciting challenge to craft a beer that would have Clayton’s name on it,” said Zislis. “As a legacy project for the Kershaw family, and one of the many ways they work to raise funds to help children who desperately need help, it had to be exceptional. And, it is.”

Kershaw was thoughtful in selecting Zislis, to develop Kershaw’s Wicked Curve. Baja Brewing Company Introduces La Surfa Lager

September 29, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Baja Brewing Company Introduces La Surfa Lager

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico — Baja Brewing Company (BBC), the original craft brewery in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, debuts La Surfa, the fourth beer style to be distributed in the US market.

Since its inception in 2007, BBC has been pushing the boundaries of Mexican beer with the mission of bringing a craft brewing culture to Mexico similar to that in Colorado where founder Jordan Gardenhire first began brewing beer. At the time of opening, mass produced lagers were the only beer style available in the region. Gardenhire enjoyed drinking ales and wanted to introduce something new to the market. Thirteen years later, Gardenhire decided it was time to add a lager to the BBC portfolio.

“The idea behind La Surfa was to create our version of a Mexican Lager with more hop character and less sweetness,” explains Gardenhire. “We wanted something with a hint of craft, but more than anything, it had to be super drinkable. We are not trying to recreate a nationally brewed beer here, but rather we are taking the style and making it our own. For instance, instead of adding corn to it, we keep with our craft of 100% malted barley.”

La Surfa is a crisp and easy-drinking pilsner-style lager made with hallertau and sterling hops resulting in an herbaceous aroma and a slightly bitter finish with only a 4.5% ABV. The vibrant can, designed by artist Maria Echevarría, is an homage to Mexico’s surfing culture and Baja Brewing Company’s beloved donkey.

La Surfa is currently available in cans and in kegs in California and Colorado with distribution in additional U.S. states coming soon. Other BBC styles available in the United States include Cabotella (blonde ale), Por Favor (Mexican IPA), and Escorpion Negro (black ale) which can be found in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Illinois.

Special customer programs are being developed such as a Barrel Club Reserve membership, which will allow members to get up-close, hands-on tour experiences, exclusive tastings and first offering purchases of extremely limited bottles. Warped Wing has won accolades for a series of their barrel-aged products such as “Whiskey Rebellion”. They continue to develop many other brands within their traditional beer and barrel-aged portfolio.

“Our barrel-aging program has propelled us into an interesting place” said Nick Bowman, co-founder and VP of Sales and Marketing. “My partner, Co-founder and Brewmaster John Haggerty has a wealth of knowledge and experience with brewing and barrel aging,” said Bowman. “He pushes the creativity of recipe development to another level. Barrel aging is an intimate and patient process. A lot of our beers rest in wood for up to a year or longer. We are excited to share this process and experience with our customers. The Warped Wing Barrel Room & Smokery will take beer to a new level and will change the way people perceive and interact with beer. That is what I’m most excited about” said Bowman.

“The pilot brewing system will give us endless opportunities to experiment with new beer styles and flavor profiles” said Bowman.

The new facility will not only offer bottled and draft barrel-aged beers but also a staple of its flagship beers such as IPA’s, stouts, lagers and other styles. There will also be an extensive bottle collection for patrons to choose from which will be available to drink on premise or purchased to go.

The Smokery, run by Culinary Director Erin O ‘Neill, will bring an innovative, eclectic menu to complement the robust beer selection. There will be a major focus on smoked meat/food items and many of the dishes will feature Warped Wing beers as ingredients. Other libations available will be hard cider, wine as well as a limited spirits menu focused on specialty cocktails and house made craft sodas.
