Tomfoolery Brewing Releases Fit 4 Life IPA

July 31, 2019 by Dow Scoggins

HAMMONTON, N.J. — Just in time for the hottest month of summer, Tomfoolery Brewing Company of Hammonton, New Jersey has released a low calorie IPA.

Owner and Head Brewer Shawn Grigus noted a lack of low calorie options for beer drinkers in Southern New Jersey. With the popularity of many other low calorie food and beverage options, a local craft beer option is long overdue.

At 101 calories per 12 oz. serving, Fit 4 Life was brewed to capture all the flavor of a traditional IPA, without the calories. The IPA is packed with aroma and flavor from Citra and Mosaic Hops.

Fit 4 Life IPA will be available at the Tomfoolery tasting room through the remainder of July and August. Ask for it in your local bar and keep an eye out for cans at your local liquor store.

Tomfoolery Brewing Company. Silly Name. Serious Beers.

Deschutes Brewery and Travel Oregon Collaborate on Slightly Exaggerated IPA

July 31, 2019 by Dow Scoggins

BEND, Ore. — Deschutes Brewery launches Slightly Exaggerated IPA celebrating Oregon’s breath-taking beauty, a collaboration with Travel Oregon’s Only Slightly (More) Exaggerated campaign.

“We love the Only Slightly (More) Exaggerated campaign— the artwork is so whimsical and fun,” says Veronica Vega, director of product development for Deschutes. “We’ve paired the campaign with our newest seasonal, inspired by that same sense of magic.”

Slightly Exaggerated IPA was created using the profound Sabro hop, grown in the Northwest, that has a unique quality that gives the beer an exceptional “slightly exaggerated” flavor combination of bourbon barrel, coconut and tropical notes.  “It’s surprising that a hop could bring these characteristics to a beer,” said Vega. “We paired up the unique coconut character of Sabro with tropical hops to create something distinct from our other citrus led IPAs.”

The collaboration was born at the brewery’s original Public House in downtown Bend, Oregon in 2017 with Travel Oregon’s first “Slightly Exaggerated” campaign. “We’re thrilled to see this collaboration come to fruition. What started as a limited-run beer to celebrate the launch of a new campaign, will now be available to IPA-lovers in 32 states,” said Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon. “It’s all about getting in front of potential visitors—we want them to fall in love with Oregon products and know that these products taste even better at the source.”

“A lot of creativity and experimentation went into perfecting this IPA and it became extremely popular at the pub.” said Robin Johnson, assistant brewmaster at the Bend pub. “An abundance of hops was used on the hot side of the brewing process and the beer was dry hopped as well for the giant Sabro character.” Slightly Exaggerated IPA is the perfect addition to the brewery’s seasonal lineup and will be available for a limited time in August, following Twilight, through the release of Jubelale in October.

Slightly Exaggerated IPA is 6.0% ABV with 50 IBUs and is available in 12-ounce, 6 and 12 pack bottles and draft. This beer is currently shipping to wholesalers across Deschutes Brewery’s full distribution footprint and will be available at retail in early August.

Karl Strauss and Russian River Collaborate on New California IPA

July 31, 2019 by Dow Scoggins

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — California brewery icons Russian River Brewing Company and Karl Strauss Brewing Company proudly introduce their collaboration beer, New California IPA. This modern India Pale Ale is the first collaboration between these storied institutions of California craft beer.

Santa Rosa’s Russian River and San Diego’s Karl Strauss set out to brew a beer that pays homage to craft beer’s most adored beer style, the India Pale Ale. The two breweries used their collective knowledge gained over the past 30+ years in the craft brewing industry to brew a new, refined IPA. Some India Pale Ales are extremely bitter, while others overly focus on aroma and flavor with no bite, but New California IPA strikes that “Goldilocks” balance between the two.

This beer focuses on each critical stage of hop addition: bittering, flavor, aroma, and dry-hopping. The star of this India Pale Ale is a rather new cultivar: the Pahto hop. It is a high-alpha hop that lends a palatable bitterness throughout the beer, while an all-star lineup of Strata, Ekuanot, Amarillo, and Idaho 7 hops deliver wildly diverse layers of flavors, from bright citrus to tropical fruit to resinous pine.

New California IPA will be available on draft and in 16oz can 4-packs beginning on August 1st (which is not-so-coincidentally IPA Day!) This IPA can be enjoyed at Karl Strauss’ Tasting Room, Brewpubs, and at craft accounts throughout California.

For more information on New California IPA, contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.

About Karl Strauss Brewing Company
Karl Strauss Brewing Company has been proudly independent since 1989, pioneering the craft beer scene with innovative and award-winning beer releases like Aurora Hoppyalis IPA, Queen of Tarts Dark Sour, and Boat Shoes Hazy IPA. July 29, 2019 by Dow Scoggins

LONGMONT, Colo. — Oskar Blues Brewery has announced the nationwide release of Rosé for Daze, a crisp rosé-style ale that’s perfect for summer sipping at 6% ABV. The new brew is available on draft and in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans.

“We chose ingredients with big, fresh flavor and combined them at an approachable ABV,” said Tim Matthews, Oskar Blues head of brewery operations. “While rosé wines can range in sweetness, we were inspired by the crisp, dry end of the spectrum and focused on tart, floral notes. The result is a summery, balanced thirst-quencher perfect for patio season.”

Nantahala Brewing Hires Taylor Yates as Lead Brewer

July 29, 2019 by Dow Scoggins

BRYSON CITY, N.C. – Taylor Yates joined Nantahala Brewing Company as lead brewer. Yates will take over day-to-day production brewing and cellar oversight from Nantahala’s head brewer, Tom Walsh, who will retire this Fall. Founder, Joe Rowland and Brewmaster, John Stuart, began planning the transition with Walsh earlier this year with the goal of hiring an experienced production brewer with roots in Western North Carolina.

“We are excited to have Taylor on our team. We believe he is a great fit to quickly step into Tom’s role at our brewery. Tom has done an amazing job helping us overcome some big challenges and invested his time increasing the quality and consistency of our beer since he became our Head Brewer a few years ago. We will miss him dearly, but we know he’s excited to spend more time exploring the Great Smoky Mountains, traveling and spending more time with his wife and children,” Rowland said.

Born and raised in Georgia, Yates started his craft beer journey in college when a friend introduced him to craft beer. He was instantly hooked and soon began occupying his free time with home brewing and working at the local home brew shop. He began his professional brewing career with Burnt Hickory Brewing, Georgia’s first nanobrewery in 2012. From Atlanta be moved to Savannah and began brewing at Moon River Brewing, one of the oldest craft breweries in the Southeast. There Yates learned the science behind the process from acclaimed brewer/owner, John Pinkerton.

In 2016, he was offered a position as Brewmaster at start-up Currahee Brewing in Franklin, NC. There he managed all aspects of the brewery from recipe development, wort production and packaging. In 2017, Yates brewed Kawi Coffee Stout which took home a Bronze medal at that years Great American Beer Festival, adding to the Gold Medal he received in 2014 for a Dry Irish Stout at the World Beer Cup.

“Taylor had a great opportunity to work with John Pinkerton in Savannah and will continue to focus on learning more about the brewing process here at Nantahala. His knowledge and experience operating multiple brewhouse setups during his previous positions, should allow him to seamlessly begin operating our brewhouse and cellar with the assistance from our current production team. We anticipate him quickly learning our recipes and processes from Tom and me. We are working on some new products right now as well, which we are excited to have his input on,” Stuart said.

Outside of the brewing business, Yates spends his time in the outdoors of Western North Carolina fishing, hiking and paddling. He and his wife enjoy spending time in the garden, cooking and relaxing by the river.

A proud supporter of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Friends of the Smokies and Great Smoky Mountain Association, the brewery’s beer, culture and vision are defined by the park’s wild spaces and its untouched, natural water that flows from one of the purest, protected watersheds on the planet.
