Founders Brewing Co. Announces Moon Rambler

October 21, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Founders Brewing Co. Announces Moon Rambler

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Founders Brewing Co. has announced that Moon Rambler IPA as the first release in the brewery’s 2021 seasonal lineup. Formerly known in the taprooms as Cow Jumped the Shark, Moon Rambler IPA (6.4%) touches down with a big dose of Azacca, Mosaic and Cascade hops that provide a blast of tropical fruitiness, assisted by a classic foundation of wheat and oats. Milk sugar is added to create a sweet yet slight creaminess, giving it a round mouthfeel, remarkably less bitter taste and a fuller body than your typical IPA.

“When it comes to beers, milk sugar has traditionally been used to sweeten up heavier offerings like stouts and porters,” said Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki. “With Moon Rambler IPA, we added some milk sugar to balance the bitterness and accentuate the fruity hop character. Brewed with oats, wheat and featuring Azacca, Cascade and Mosaic hops, Moon Rambler IPA is still a full-fledged IPA, just with a softer and sweeter side.”

Moon Rambler IPA will be available in 6-pack and 15-pack cans and on draft in the Grand Rapids and Detroit taprooms on November 4. It will available across the brewery’s 50-state distribution network from November 2020 through March 2021. Please note that Moon Rambler IPA will not be available on draft in Utah. Moon Rambler will havea taproom retail price of $9/6-pack and $18/15-pack and prices will vary by market outside of the taproom.

Moon Rambler IPA will kick off Founders’ 2021 seasonal lineup, with two seasonal releases yet to be announced. More information to come throughout the year on the yet-to-be-announced releases in Founders’ 2021 availability calendar.

Wine barrels from Stoller Family Estate in Oregon as well as gin barrels from Treaty Oak here in Texas will be home to the first round of aging brews. Meanwhile Brewing endorses the belief that no two barrels are the same; All barrels will be tasted and hand selected for blending. Nao Ohdera, Director of Operations, emphasizes the eccentric nature of the brewery: “No barrel has a predetermined beer in mind. It will all be based on how the barrel develops over the months and years to come,” says Ohdera. Meanwhile looks forward to expanding their barrel program and offerings of both clean and wild and sour barrel-aged beers. Look for everything from classic bourbon barrel-aged beers to experimental and funky beers showcasing the unique flavors of pinot noir, gin, chardonnay, vermouth and rum barrels.

Brewing Facility
The Brewing Facilityhouses a 15bbl 3-vessel brewhouse from ICC NW that can produce up to 3000 bbls a year with the current tank space, with opportunities to expand in the future. The building has a walk-in cooler with six serving tanks that feed directly to the taproom, administrative offices, a dedicated lab and a temperature controlled Barrel Room, where the walls will be lined with barrels aging a variety of limited release beers.

Design
Creative Agency Guerilla Suit, Architects OPA design studioand designers McCray & Co. worked collaboratively together on the Meanwhile Brewing project as brand creatives, architects and designers respectively. OPA is known for its artistry as architects, specifically in the realm of brewery design, and McCray is Austin’s go-to for exciting and inviting spaces with personality. Meanwhile’s design is informed by Guerilla Suit’s creative direction which they describe as a “Playful vision brought to us by Owner Will Jaquiss for an innovative brewery concept. We leaned into the laid back nature of the name and brought Meanwhile to life employing hand-drawn doodles as a backdrop for a multi-layered visual identity system that would be flexible enough to inform everything from merchandise to the taproom space,” says designer Hannah Young.

The Taproom
“The interior is a mashup of Austin meets Oxford. Many of the design moves in the tasting roomand the private roomwere based on pubs in Europe. There’s a certain formality in using brass and dark green tones – the trick was to keep it approachable. That’s the Austin part, “ says designer McCray. “We chose the live edge pecan slabs to represent the bar top and the brewer’s table because they come from this place, and they were milled, sanded, finished and installed with the same care that goes into brewing Meanwhile’s beer. We worked with many local craftspeople, like Summerwood Building, Ankor Studios,Mother Built, Kim Smith / Rayne Waresand Mend, to name a few, to create a one-of-a-kind space that feels humanscale, considerate, and cozy,” says McCray.

Beer may be the main act, but it shares the spotlight with a full coffee barfor when you need a perk and three food trucks when you need a bite. Parlor Coffeewill be bringing the buzz with their robust and artistic approach to the caffeinated brews.

The Grounds
Meanwhile Brewing Co. is situated on 3.7 acres and with a stagethat the Mohawk helped design and sourced equipment for, a soccer field, and a playground, there will be no shortage of activities and programming. Keep an eye on Meanwhile’s website for updates on live music, DJ sets, storytelling and movie nights. Central to the whole space is the covered area that is home to three food trucks, Craft Woodfire Pizza, serving Traditional Neapolitan pizza; Garbo’s, specializing in lobster and New England cuisine with an Austin twist; and Pueblo Viejo, that serves up delicious Mexican fare from street food to gordita and more. They will be open for breakfast during Meanwhile’s morning hours.

“We wanted a place that people felt equally at home bringing their laptop and having a cup of coffee in the morning as they would meeting friends for a fresh air lunch, or for a beer in the afternoon with their pup and maybe hanging around to see some live music in the evening,” says founder Will Jaquiss. “The recent pandemic has slowed our plans a bit, but we hope to roll out all of the full features of this place as soon as it is safe to do so,” Jaquiss adds.

Due to COVID, the taproom will only be open for ordering at the bar and the brewing facility will be closed for tours until restrictions are lifted. Guests of Meanwhile can enjoy their expansive grounds with ample outdoor seating. All ages are welcome, but the playground and soccer field will be off-limits to keep people safe at this time.

Taps will be poured all days of the week—8 AM-10 PM Monday through Thursday, 8 AM-11 PM on Friday, Saturday 9-11 PM, and 9 AM-8 PM on Sunday.

River Horse Black is Beautiful Beer Funds 21 Computers for Trenton Students

River Horse Black is Beautiful Beer Funds 21 Computers for Trenton Students

EWING, N.J. — River Horse Brewing Co. chose TDI Connect – formerly the Trenton Digital Initiative (TDI) – as the beneficiary of funds raised from their take on the ‘Black is Beautiful’ beer. In turn, Sprout U School of the Arts in Trenton was selected as the recipient of the donation.

River Horse took part in an industry-wide initiative when brewing their rendition of the ‘Black is Beautiful’ beer. Weathered Souls Brewing of San Antonio, Texas created the Black is Beautiful campaign, a collaborative effort amongst brewers to enhance their local communities. All proceeds from River Horse’s Black is Beautiful Stout went to TDI Connect, who refurbishes donated computers and distributes them to students who need access to the internet.

“We love TDI Connect’s mission because it is tangible, simple, and empowering. Access to a computer and the power of the internet is easily taken for granted. Imagine not having it. Think of the feeling when your Wi-Fi goes out? Imagine that all the time. For roughly $160, our combined efforts can provide a computer and one year of internet access to a student.” said brewery owner, Chris Walsh.

Mark Iorio, Committee Chair of TDI Connect, carefully selected Sprout U School of the Arts in neighboring Trenton to receive River Horse’s donation. Iorio said “There is nothing better than seeing the expression on the students’ faces when they received the laptops” TDI has worked with Sprout U over the past several years. They do such a remarkable job, we couldn’t have chosen a better partner”

Twenty-one students from kindergarten through eleventh grade were gifted laptops and one year of internet connection, in conjunction with the Comcast Internet Essentials program. Dean of Students, Danielle Miller-Winrow, coordinated the selection and distribution of materials to students in need, stating “Thanks to this donation, our greenhouse can continue to sprout seeds of knowledge which leads to educational success.”

As of August 6, TDI has already given away over 720 PCs in 2020. TDI is an all-volunteer organization that is part of United Way of Greater Mercer County, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation (www.uwgmc.org)

River Horse Brewing Co. located in Ewing, NJ is one of New Jersey’s oldest and largest craft breweries.

Triceratops Brewing’s Mrs. Voorhees Imperial Peanut Butter Milk Stout Makes Its Return

October 19, 2020 by Andrew Innes

Triceratops Brewing’s Mrs. Voorhees Imperial Peanut Butter Milk Stout Makes Its Return

TUMWATER, Wash. — Triceratops Brewing, an award-winning brewery inWashington’s south sound region, is pleased to announce the return of Mrs. Voorhees, its Imperial Peanut Butter Milk Stout. Named after the murderous mother in the iconic “Friday the13th” film series, Mrs. Voorhees has been part of the brewery’s seasonal lineup for several years now, gradually winning over beer drinkers who take pleasure in a little dread and terror.

“‘Friday the 13th’ is a Halloween classic,” says co-owner and head brewer Rob Horn. “As a kid I used to camp at the campground where it was filmed. So when I thought about brewing a beer for the month of October, I knew I had to work in a reference to the movie series, and I knew I had to go for that quintessential candy flavor combo, salty peanut butter and sweet milk chocolate.”

Brewed with Pilsner malt from Skagit Valley Malting in Burlington, Mrs. Voorhees (8.1% ABV)arrives in time for the fall season and the single spookiest night of the year. But it’s the delicious combination of peanut butter and salted caramel that makes this Imperial Milk Stout such a treat. Meanwhile, selected specialty malts like oats, chocolate malt, and roasted barley give it depth and a rich, full body to balance the sweetness.

Quantities are limited, but Mrs. Voorhees will be available at select retailers throughout western Washington on draft and in four-packs of 16-ounce cans. Consumers can also purchase this beer to-go in four-packs, 32-ounce Crowlers, and 64-ounce growlers at the Triceratops tasting room in Tumwater. Alter Brewing Co. Releases Swedda Wedda Oatmeal Stout

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — Alter Brewing Company has released the fourth and final beer in our 2020 seasonal series, Swedda Wedda. This smooth and creamy oatmeal stout is the perfect beer to cozy up to on these cool fall and winter nights. It is currently available on tap and in 6-packs at both Alter locations, a well as at retail destinations throughout the Chicagoland area.

Why did we name our oatmeal stout as if we were speaking with a New England accent? Well, we love our friends to the northeast and as Chicagoans we know a couple two tree tings about speaking with a local accent. Plus, Swedda Wedda is much more fun to say than Sweater Weather!

Regardless of pronunciation this 7.5% oatmeal stout is as much fun to drink as the name is to say. As the cool air from the north heads our way, this seasonal will warm you just like your favorite sweater does. It’s Swedda Wedda time.

Swedda Wedda, along with the rest of Alter’s year-round and seasonal/limited offerings, can be found throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and suburbs. Distribution is through Lakeshore Beverage and Schamberger Brothers, Inc.
