Reuben’s Brews Toasts 10 Years of Brewing with a Ballard Block Party on August 6

July 31, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Reuben BrewsSEATTLE, Washington – Adam and Grace Robbings didn’t know what to expect when they first rolled up the garage door at 1406 53rd Street NW. The couple had timed the opening of their new brewery with Seattle’s Seafair weekend and planned to offer five beers on tap. Four of which were dark beers. On a hot Saturday. In August. Despite the heat, drinkers flocked to the small industrial space in Ballard and just like that, Reuben’s Brews was on the map.

In the years that followed, the brewery’s growth outpaced the founders’ expectations, and its accomplishments attracted the attention of beer drinkers well beyond the neighborhood. And now, on the heels of winning a gold medal at the 2022 World Beer Cup for its Hazealicious IPA, Reuben’s Brews will celebrate its first decade of business, community, and glass backwards brewing with a day-long block party at its Taproom on Saturday, August 6th.

“Looking back, 2012 feels like both a lifetime ago and just yesterday!” says Adam Robbings. “So much has changed in Ballard and at Reuben’s over the past 10 years and we couldn’t have imagined where we would be at this point in our journey. We have so much gratitude for all of the support we’ve received since our opening weekend and we’re tremendously excited for the next 10 years.”

Reflecting on just how much the Reuben’s Brews story is intertwined with the story of Ballard, the Robbings realized that a block party with live music, food trucks, a kids activity area, and plenty of award-winning beer was the most fitting way to celebrate its anniversary. Because from starting in a garage as homebrewers, to helping lead the way in creating a Ballard Brewery District, to building three breweries in the neighborhood and becoming Washington’s most decorated brewery, Reuben’s has always worn its Ballard pride on its sleeve.

The festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a glassware giveaway and bagels available from Darling & Company. Then at noon, live music starts on the main stage on NW 51st Street. It’s going to be a fun-filled day for all ages on August 6th with highlights that include:

Free 10th anniversary glassware for the first 100 visitors

Bands performing throughout the day, beginning at 12 p.m.

All 10 beers in our 10th anniversary collaboration series

Robust Porter ice cream made by Full Tilt

A kids area with activities and balloons

6 food vendors selling burgers, bbq, tamales, and more

Limited edition 10th anniversary hats, T-shirts, and posters

The release of the final two beers in our collaboration series

“Our anniversary parties are always a fun way to catch up with our friends, neighbors, and industry partners,” says Grace Robbings. “It feels a bit like a family reunion. And this year is going to be that much more special. We’ve been looking forward to this event for months and can’t wait to swap stories, share memories, and raise a toast to Ballard, our favorite neighborhood in the world!”

About Reuben’s Brews

Adam and Grace Robbings opened Reuben’s Brews in 2012, after an award-winning homebrewing career, naming it after their first child, Reuben. At their family brewery they brew from the glass backwards: designing each beer with intention, unbound by constraints. They know that making that extra effort is worth it. From everyday favorites to innovative new releases, they want to share a love of discovery. Reuben’s Brews. Beer Unbound.

The Reuben’s Brews Taproom (5010 14th Ave. NW in Ballard) is open daily 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., featuring an expanded outdoor seating area and To-Go Store. They strictly adhere to all current state and local health precautions to keep their customers and team safe.

Jing-A Brewing Co. Celebrates 10th Anniversary

July 31, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Jing-A Brewing CompanyWe’re celebrating 10 years of experimenting with flavours, pushing the boundaries of Chinese craft beer, working with local artists and musicians, and partying with our fans in Beijing and beyond. We’re doing it Jing-A style: telling a Beijing story as old as time (and as young as us), and brewing a bold new beer!

As our name implies, we’re Beijing at heart – this city inspires us and gives us our drive. After a decade living and breathing all things Beijing, we asked ourselves, can we make a truly “Beijing” beer in honour of our 10th anniversary?

A Beer 10 Years in the Making

Our search for an indisputable piece of beer-ingredient worthy “Beijing-ness” started (unsurprisingly) with food… and ended with a 700,000 year old mummified man – an archeological find otherwise known as Peking Man.

“Lao Beijing Neolithic Barleywine” is a celebration of 10 years of Jing-A craft beer, and a tribute to the city that inspires us. A malt-forward Barleywine with notes of pine needle, walnuts and rose, inspired by the diet of the earliest known “Beijinger” – Peking Man.

“Peking Man” refers to the oldest population of humans (Homo erectus) who lived in Beijing 500,000 to 700,000 years ago. The cave site where the fossils and archeological remains were discovered a century ago are a UNESCO World Heritage site.

– Dr. Tom Stidham, Professor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Lao Beijing Neolithic Barleywine is only available in 750mL bottles. There are 1000 of them in existence. Each bottles features our 10th anniversary illustration by artist Luke Ramsey – a unique and playful homage to Jing-A’s history, featuring our team, beers and ingredients, community events, and the city of Beijing.

Jing-A Brewing Co.

Founded in 2012, Jing-A is a Beijing-based craft beer company. We’re obsessed with hunting down rare ingredients and unexpected  flavours to brew our beers, ranging from twists on classic styles to curious experiments and inspiring collaborations. “ Our goal is to make beer we’re damn proud of; beer that pushes the envelope, celebrates its roots, and changes perceptions of Chinese brewing worldwide.”

– Kris Li & Alex Acker, Jing-A Brewing Co. Founders

Boochcraft Launches 2022 Liquid Art Lab Series

July 10, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

BoochcraftSAN DIEGO, California – Boochcraft, the plant-based, organic hard kombucha company, has officially released the second of three flavors to come from their highly anticipated Liquid Art Lab series for 2022. The series is a celebration of simple pleasures and acts as an innovation playground for Boochcraft to add its own twist on delicious classics. The flavors featured in this limited release include Hibiscus Lemonade (launched in April), Peach Iced Tea (launched in June) and Cranberry Punch, to be released later this year.

The Liquid Art Lab was started as a way for Boochcraft to explore the artistry of flavor creation. The 2022 series consists of three new yet nostalgic flavor releases meant to remind consumers of simpler times while also featuring whole organic fruit sourced from local farms based on seasonality, live cultures and organic ingredients. Hibiscus Lemonade kicked off the series as a liquid love letter to San Diego and a shoutout to the city’s Spanish roots. Peach Iced Tea, launched in June, is a fun twist on a classic, inspired by long summer days filled with activities, warm sunshine and enjoying the moment. The series will finish later in the year with Cranberry Punch.

Kyle Oliver, R&D manager, spoke about the careful curation that went into Peach Iced Tea, stating, “Peach Iced Tea is a refreshing twist on a classic. Filled with the familiarity of fresh peaches, but with a tropical twist of sweet guava and beautiful herbal notes of white tea, this is our celebration of summer and all its simple pleasures. The peaches are sourced from Masumoto Farm in Fresno, California, in order to keep everything as fresh and local as possible. This flavor is meant to ground you in the moment, reminding you of the simplicity of warm sunshine, cold iced tea and the summer air.”

Each Liquid Art Lab can will consist of six illustrations by Andie Richardson depicting scenes from the many adventures a Boochcraft can sees in a year. Hibiscus Lemonade will showcase San Diego’s well-known sightseeing spots, while Peach Iced Tea highlights classic summer activities. Cranberry Punch illustrates being home to celebrate with friends and enjoy the holiday season. The series is an ode to simple pleasures, aiming to recall memories of happiness or the feelings of being around those you care about.
