Bell’s Brewery Introduces Rind Over Matter Wheat Series

August 28, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Bell's BreweryCOMSTOCK, Michigan – The sun is starting to set on this year’s Oberon season, but fans of it and wheat beers will have a brand-new beer to add to their regular lineup.

Rind Over Matter, the first official release in Bell’s Brewery’s new branded Wheat Series will debut this month in bottles, cans, and on draft across Bell’s distribution footprint.

“The first thing you are going to notice is this beautiful light color followed by very expressive notes of lemon and orange. People are going to love this, especially those looking for an alternative while Oberon is away for the winter,” Andy Farrell, Brewing Innovation Manager, said.

Rind Over Matter is a bright and refreshing American Wheat Ale, brewed with fresh lemon and orange zest, and a 5% ABV. It is easy-drinking, aromatic, and has a lighter malt profile than Oberon that allows those citrus notes to really shine. It will be available through October, while supplies last.

“One of the things we do really well is wheat beers,” Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s said.

“People have always been drawn to that style, they are very popular and approachable. It made sense for us to lean into that more and give our fans and customers a wide range of choices throughout the year,” he said.

Following Rind Over Matter, fans can enjoy Bell’s Belgian-inspired Wheat, Bright White, in November. In mid to late December, a brand-new low-calorie option will follow in this series before Oberon returns in March 2022.

Additional details on that new beer will be shared soon.

Those who don’t want Oberon season to end just yet can still find it on store shelves while supplies last. No new shipments will be heading out from the brewery until next year though (except for those destined for Florida and Arizona where Oberon is available year-round).

One more big wheat announcement:

For the first time ever, Uberon, a bourbon barrel-aged version of Oberon will ship in 12 oz bottles, packaged in 4-packs. At 11.3% ABV, it is the perfect beer for a special summer moment or for those long winter nights when you’re longing for the return of Oberon. Uberon will start hitting store shelves and coolers around the beginning of September. It will debut at the Bell’s General Store and Eccentric Café on Sept. 1.

About Bell’s Brewery

Bell’s Brewery, Inc. began in 1985 with a quest for better beer and a 15-gallon soup kettle. Since then, we’ve grown into a regional craft brewery that distributes to 43 states, in addition to Puerto Rico and Washington DC. Virginia Beer Co. Celebrates Women’s Equality Day with 39 Words Can Release

August 28, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Virginia Beer CompanyWILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – Every August, the Women of VBC (along with Brewer Brad Adams) gather together to brew 39 Words. The idea for this beer was originally conceived in 2019 to celebrate Women’s Equality Day (commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment, starting the process of giving women the Constitutional right to vote).

“It has quickly become one of our favorite brew days each year,” exclaims Virginia Beer Co. Operations Manager Luci Legaspi.

The third annual release of 39 Words — named after the number of words in the 19th Amendment, certified to the U.S. Constitution on August 26th, 1920 — is a Blonde Ale brewed with Lemongrass and Sabro hops. Designed and brewed by the Women of VBC, 2021’s recipe is light, crisp, and refreshing with a hint of tropical coconut (aka, Summer In A Can).

This year’s limited edition release features an updated label design showcasing the 39 words that make up the 19th Amendment, one of the first major milestones on the road to women’s suffrage. This beer is released each year in late August for Women’s Equality Day, an important release reflecting the brewery’s Beer · People · Purpose mantra and The Virginia Beer Company’s year round celebration of Women in Craft Beer.

“The entire VBC team looks forward to this year’s can release in celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and beer brewed for all in honor of Women’s Equality Day 2021,” cheers Virginia Beer Co. Cellarperson Morgan Taylor.

East Brother Beer Release Oktoberfest Offering Festbier Early

August 28, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

East Brother Beer RICHMOND, California – Although Oktoberfest is on hold again this year, we honor tradition with the release of our Festbier on August 28th – because honoring classics is at the heart of what we do here at East Brother Beer. Figuring we’re all in need of a mug of cheer, we’re releasing our world-class Festbier a little earlier this year. So dust of your lederhosen, grab your stein, and let’s get this party started!

About East Brother Beer’s Festbier:

First pioneered by Paulaner in the early twentieth century, Festbier quickly became the beer of choice for brewers participating in Munich’s annual Oktoberfest. Festbier was such a hit with festival goers and brewers alike that by the 1990s it had replaced Marzen as the official Oktoberfest beer, and it still is to this day. East Brother Beer is committed to brewing classic styles with precision, and Festbier is no exception. In order to make this style shine, we turned to our friends at Admiral Maltings. Their world-class malts, paired with our refined brewing skills, afforded the first iteration of our Festbier the “World Class” title by The Beer Connoisseur Magazine. And it has only gotten better since then.

Festbier Tasting Notes:

Festbier’s appearance is a deep golden color with a bright white head. The aroma is honey and sweet bready malt character, lightly floral with subtle stone fruit. The taste is light to medium body and easy drinking, with some earthy bitterness from the noble hops cleansing the palate.

Availability:

An East Brother Beer fan favorite, our Festbier will only be available while supply lasts. Grab a pint and commemorative glass at East Brother Beer’s taproom or check out our Beer Finder to find it in your favorite bar or restaurant, and our iconic cans in your local grocery store or bottle shop.

Von Ebert Brewing Releases Latest Heritage Beer

August 27, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Von Ebert BrewingPORTLAND, Ore. – Von Ebert Brewing, winner of the 2021 Oregon Beer Awards’ Medium Size Brewery of the Year, on Friday will release the latest addition to its Heritage Beer collection, a mixed fermentation oak-aged gruit named Wermut.

Inspired by the tastes and characteristics of herbal Vermouth, Wermut is a beer more than two years in the making.

“We set out to make a beer that would pay tribute to the lovely vermouths and amaros of Europe, really striving to deliver the herbal characteristics you see in those spirits,” explained Jason Hansen, Lead Brewer and Blender, Von Ebert Glendoveer. “The final product is an extremely unique beer that delivers an exceptional drinking experience.”

The Von Ebert Brewing team combined several different fermentation traditions to construct the beer.

“We used Belgian Tripels as a model for our fermentation, a process that included making our own Candi syrup,” explained Hansen. “Strong Belgian beers are typically made with Candi syrup, an invert sugar that’s been converted from sucrose to a mixture of fructose and glucose. It’s more fermentable than the malt sugars used in other styles of beers, producing beers that are lighter bodied, yet relatively high in alcohol content.”

Like the gruits of old, no hops were used in Wermut. Instead, a variety of herbs and spices were used to add bitterness and flavor components on the hot side.

“Both vermouth and amaro are very herbal, so we felt like the best way to capture similar characteristics was to actually use herbs,” added Hansen.

After extensive oak-aging and blending, further aromatic herbal components were added to the beer prior to packaging.

The 8.9% ABV beer contains flavors of lime candy and honey lemon Riccola, with an enveloping feeling of oak warmth.

Wermut will be available on Friday, August 27, at both Von Ebert pub locations, Glendoveer and the Pearl, on draft and in 500ml bottles.

About Von Ebert Brewing

Von Ebert Brewing, winner of Brewery of the Year, Medium Size, at the 2021 Oregon Beer Awards, sits at the crossroads where storied traditions meet bold new ideas in brewing. Independently owned and operated, the Portland, OR-based brewery produces award-winning beers in a variety of styles. Von Ebert beers have received medals at numerous competitions, world-class ratings from top blind tasting panels, and recognition as one of the top 20 beers in the world over the past year. In addition to modern IPAs and crisp lagers, the oak-aged, bottle-conditioned Heritage beer program sets the brewery apart. All of the beers pair perfectly with the elevated American pub cuisine served at both brewpub locations.

Tröegs Releases Hop Cyclone Hazy Double IPA

August 26, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

HERSEY, Pennsylvania – Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the release of its Once-A-Year hazy double IPA, Hop Cyclone.

Hop Cyclone’s haze starts with a grain bill of pilsner malt, Vienna malt and wheat, which helps prop up hop oils that would normally fall out during fermentation. The hop combination of Citra, Sabro, Simcoe and Sultana evokes notes of ripe pineapple, soft citrus and juicy peach, while London 3 yeast does the hard work of fermenting this big Double IPA while boosting its tropical notes.

Hop Cyclone takes its name from a dry-hopping system Tröegs has employed for close to a decade, which circulates hops thoroughly throughout each batch, ensuring the hop oils hit every last drop of beer.

The art for Hop Cyclone was conjured up by Art of Tröegs alum Devin Watson. “For the Hop Cyclone label,” said Devin, “I imagined these groovy 60’s hop graphics and seeing them swirl all around the can.”

Weighing in at 9% ABV, Hop Cyclone Hazy Double IPA is available on draft and in 16oz cans everywhere Tröegs beer is sold.

Run The Jewels Partner With Black Craft Breweries On New Beer Series

August 26, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Run The JewelsRun The Jewels, the lauded duo of Killer Mike and El-P, have announced plans to once again expand their infiltration of the beverage industry via a new series of collaborative beers slated for Fall of 2021.

In an effort to support and expand inclusivity within the craft beer community the duo have partnered with Black-owned craft breweries and events for a distinctive trio of offerings, with some slated to be debuted at festivals celebrating Black brewers and artists.

The new line of beers includes the just-released “Never Look Back,” a premium rice lager brewed in collaboration with nonprofit Beer Kulture at Green Bench Brewing Co in Florida, “All Due Respect,” a molasses and corn grits strong ale brewed in collaboration with Proximity Brewing and Spaceway Brewing that will be released at Black Brew Culture’s Blacktoberfest on October 8th in Durham, NC, and “Blockbuster Night, Pt. 1,” a danky IPA with terpenes brewed in collaboration with Brew Gentleman Brewery of Braddock, PA that is set to debut at Barrel and Flow Fest on September 10th and will also be available for sale online, as part of a Barrel and Flow set, as part of DigiFlow, the virtual coverage of the fest.

Putting money back into the communities where these beers were made is an important component for the duo: a portion of all proceeds from “Never Look Back” will benefit Beer Kulture, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting equitable hiring practices in the brewing industry, while a portion of proceeds from the sale of “All Due Respect” will support Blacktoberfest, and 50% of proceeds from “Blockbuster Night, Part 1” will benefit local Pittsburgh charities serving the children and the arts, including Steel City Arts Initiative.

The new slate of beers underscores the continued growth of Run The Jewels’ beverage ambitions, as they chart a course toward producing their first self-released beers in addition to other planned beer, spirit, and coffee collaborations. Among their other impending releases are a new IPA brewed in collaboration with Brooklyn’s Interboro Spirits & Ales (one of the duo’s early brewing collaborators, with whom they made the award-winning “Stay Gold” IPA), and a new collaboration with Cerveza Minerva in Mexico City slated for this November, the Oh Mama Juicy IPA. And for a very new kind of RTJ libation, they’ll soon be dropping The Ground Below, a cold brew coffee made in collaboration with Chicago’s Dark Matter Coffee that will be available at the Dark Matter booth at Riot Fest on September 17th and to be made available for nationwide shipping.

These all follow in the footsteps of their recent hard seltzer collaboration with Chicago’s City Water “Ooh La La” and last year’s ultra ambitious global collaboration “No Save Point” IPA, for which the duo teamed with 13 esteemed breweries from across the world.

About Beer Kulture

Through their work, Beer Kulture has advanced and created opportunities that foster diversity, equity and inclusion within the craft beverage space. Since 2017, Beer Kulture has been a community resource and has demonstrated commitment to the work necessary to advance the Kulture forward.

About Blacktoberfest

Blacktoberfest the event is a festival created by Mike Potter, Sheena Lester and Royce Shockley of Black Brew Culture, and in this second-year display of craft beer and culinary excellence, it spans two continents with over 100 Black-owned establishments coming together to spotlight their passions and talents. It’s an annual collection of curated activations mixed with traditional festival-style booths that hopes to serve as a new standard for combining entertainment, education and community economics. BBC’s 2021 celebration is about honoring the diaspora and welcoming the brilliance of Black people, across the globe, through the vehicle of craft beer.

About Black Brew Culture

Black Brew Culture, which was founded by Potter in 2015, aims to make the craft beer industry as diverse as its appreciative consumer audience by showcasing the genius and flavor Black brewers bring to it, in America and across the world. The group’s B.L.A.C.K. Beer Initiative is a unique initialized approach to the whats, wheres, hows and whys of helping the Blacks-in-craft-beer landscape expand.

About Barrel and Flow Fest

Why Barrel and Flow? “To honor what we see as interconnected and important sectors of Black arts. To celebrate Black arts and artists. And to express and share how collective art is greater together than the sum of their individual parts. Through the barrel flows this collective creativity of music, visual art, and culinary art. Our collaborations and aims of economic empowerment for the Black community continue, just as significant and necessary as ever, with global aspirations and national amplifications.”

Both releases highlight some of River North Brewery’s quality ingredients used in two very distinct styles, you’ll want to give both of them a try when you stop by the taprooms over the weekend.

Harpoon and Dunkin’ Release Three New Fall Beers

August 25, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Harpoon Dunkin'Boston, MA – For the fourth year in a row, Harpoon Brewery and Dunkin’ are giving fans a fresh way to celebrate fall. Joining fan-favorite Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin Spiced Latte Ale, three new beers are hitting stores this September all made with coffee, donuts or matcha tea from Dunkin’: Harpoon Dunkin’ Blueberry Matcha IPA, Harpoon Dunkin’ Maple Crème Blonde Ale and Harpoon Dunkin’ Midnight American Porter.

To mark the occasion, the brands aren’t just stocking shelves with the new beers, but in Boston they’re creating the first-ever Dunkin’ Walk-Thru at Harpoon Brewery. Open for one day only –on August 30, 2021 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ET – the local pop-up experience will give fans a first taste of the new beers by ordering a pack to go.

As an added treat, at the Boston event, anyone who orders the new beers at the walk-thru will also receive a free Dunkin’ Harpoon IPA Donut filled with a Harpoon IPA jelly and topped with a candied malt crumble — made just for the occasion and the first Dunkin’ donut to be made with beer as an ingredient*. Attendees can also enjoy a cup of Dunkin’ coffee while waiting for their orders.

“Our collaborations with Dunkin’ are highly anticipated by our fans each fall, so this year we wanted to help them crack a cold one open just a little earlier. Our Dunkin’ Walk-Thru experience takes everything we love about ordering Dunkin’ at a traditional Drive-Thru with the addition of a first taste of our new beers,” said Dan Kenary, Harpoon CEO and co-founder.

The four beers available this season include:

· Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin Spiced Latte Ale | Our new fall favorite returns! Inspired by Dunkin’s Pumpkin Spiced Latte, this “Spiced Latte Ale” is brewed with Dunkin’ coffee, pumpkin puree, cinnamon, and lactose for a delightfully autumnal beer that’s equal parts creamy, roasty, pumpkin-y, and spiced. ABV: 5.2%.

· NEW Harpoon Dunkin’ Blueberry Matcha IPA | This hazy IPA is inspired by Dunkin’s Blueberry Matcha Latte. Brewed with blueberries, matcha, and a blend of traditional and modern hops, it’s both tea-like and tropical with bright, juicy notes of mixed berry. ABV: 6.6%.

· NEW Harpoon Dunkin’ Maple Crème Blonde Ale | Nothing says “fall in New England” quite like maple! Brewed with actual Dunkin’ donuts and maple syrup, this easy-drinking Blonde Ale combines everything we love about Dunkin’ Maple Crème donuts with a subtle, malty, not-too-sweet base. ABV: 5.5%.

· NEW Harpoon Dunkin’ Midnight American Porter | The beer that started it all just got even better! This riff on our classic Dunkin’ Coffee Porter is brewed with Dunkin’s new Midnight Roast coffee for some extra roasty aromatics, dark chocolate notes, and an espresso-like finish. ABV: 6%.

“We have elevated our collaboration with Harpoon this fall with three new beers, all made with Dunkin’s iconic coffee, donuts and matcha tea,” said Brian Gilbert, Vice President of Retail Business Development at Dunkin’. “Beer, matcha, coffee and donuts, we can’t think of a better combination.”

Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin will be available on draft and in bottled 6-packs as well as in the new Harpoon Dunkin’ Dozen mix pack, which features three cans of each seasonal beer flavor. These limited releases will be available everywhere Harpoon is sold beginning in September.

Buffalo Wild Wings in the Boston area will also exclusively serve all four Harpoon x Dunkin’ beers on draft starting in October.

*Harpoon Dunkin’ IPA Donuts may contain trace amounts of alcohol. Must be 21+ to purchase.

About the Harpoon Brewery

The Harpoon Brewery was founded in 1986 by beer lovers who wanted more and better beer options. When the Brewery was founded, Harpoon was issued Brewing Permit #001 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, since it was the first to brew commercially in Boston after a dormant period of about 25 years. Since then, it has expanded to a second brewery in Windsor, VT. Harpoon’s line of craft beer features its award-winning IPA and seasonal beers, along with special limited releases. In 2014, Harpoon became an employee-owned company.
