Alaskan Brewing Launches Mixed Pack

January 31, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Alaskan Brewing JUNEAU, Alaska – Alaskan Brewing Company today announced its newest mixed pack designed to tickle the taste buds of every beer drinker with four unique flavor profiles that are as bold as the Alaskan wilderness.

Anchored by the original, award-winning Alaskan Amber and the extremely popular Alaskan Icy Bay IPA, this exciting mixed pack also includes Alaskan Lo-IPA – a specialty option for beer drinkers who prefer lower calories and lower alcohol content with all the balance and complexity of a traditional IPA.

“Mosaic and Citra hops bring a refreshing mango and tangerine aroma to Alaskan Lo-IPA, giving it a crisp, clean finish that appeals to many different palates,” said Rob Day, brewing manager for Alaskan Brewing Co.

The newest entry to the mixed pack – Alaskan Citrus Wheat – is specially brewed to usher in mild spring and summer days with its unique notes of fresh orange, grapefruit, and lemon peel. Slightly hazy with a light golden color, Alaskan Citrus Wheat delivers exactly what you would expect from a refreshing warm-weather ale…slightly tart at the start and then followed by a light toasted wheat character and hop bitterness to tie it all together.

“This beer is one of our most exciting offerings to date,” said Merv Boyce, director of sales & marketing for Alaskan Brewing Co. “One sip and you are transported to the West Glacier Trail in late summer, ready for a well-earned beverage after a rigorous hike. And with its lower alcohol content, Alaskan Citrus Wheat is perfect for enjoying as part of an active lifestyle.”

All four varieties in the new Alaskan Mixed Pack are brewed with Alaskan glacier-fed water and are conveniently packaged in 12-ounce aluminum cans. The mixed pack will be available in stores nationwide beginning in March.

January 31, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Yardley Brothers BrewingHONG KONG – Yardley Brothers have partnered with Open Book Extracts (OBX) Asia to release its first CBD infused beer. Lo/Hi Mango Cheesecake CBD Sour is the first installment in a range of CBD beers planned by Hong Kong’s most creative craft brewery.

In partnering with OBX, Yardley Brothers can utilize OBX ingredients produced from organically grown hemp from family-owned, U.S.-based farms by farmers with generations of experience. The OBX network of hand-selected farmers have pioneered hemp cultivation, production, and agricultural technology with environmentally friendly, Good Agricultural Practices-compliant growing methods.

“I’ve long been a fan of Yardley Brothers’ craft beers and am excited to work with them on their newest creative venture,” said Laurie Goldberg, CEO of OBX Asia.

Temperance Beer Company Releases Beer Benefiting Evanston Reparations

January 30, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Temperance Beer CompanyEVANSTON, Ill. — Evanston’s Temperance Beer Co is releasing a unique new beer that celebrates and supports an Evanston first: The City of Evanston Reparations Fund. The City of Evanston recently created the forward-thinking fund to address, in part, wealth and opportunity gaps that Black Americans experience as a result of historical racism and discrimination.

Thanks to the leadership of 5th Ward Alderman Robin Rue Simmons, the City Council, and the Evanston community, Evanston, Illinois is the first municipality in the country — and the world — to have created a reparations fund for its Black residents. “We took the first step towards repair in the Black community by passing our reparations policy with dedicated funding,” says Simmons. “As our community works to develop remedy policies, it is important that we grow our fund to meet the goals for our Black community.” In addition to funding provided by a 3% tax on local marijuana sales, individuals and organizations may donate to the fund.

“I am so proud of the leadership that the City Council has shown with the fund,” Temperance Beer Co.’s founder and Evanston native Josh Gilbert explains. “It’s just a start, but it’s an important start, and we wanted to lend our voice and financial support in a way that will hopefully inspire others.”

Alderman Simmons responds, “Good leadership demonstrated by Temperance Beer is an example of the collective new direction in our City.”

The beer is called Where I’m From, an homage to the Digable Planets’ song of the same name. “Evanstonians have fierce hometown pride,” says Gilbert, “so we are proudly proclaiming where we’re from — and where we’re going — through this beer,” a hazy India Pale Ale with vanilla, tangerine, and orange peel. While Temperance Beer Co. had originally intended to contribute 13% of the proceeds to the fund, it recently decided to increase the amount to 100%.

“Temperance Beer has always been a thoughtful ally showcasing Black culture. I was not surprised to learn the owner, Josh Gilbert, was not only in support, but ready to take action,” states Alderman Simmons, “and commissioned the incredible talent of Maia Faith for the artwork.”

Maia Faith, the Evanston artist who designed the label, says that she “felt honored that Temperance entrusted me with bringing the visual representation of reparations in Evanston to life.” With her suitable-for-framing design, she explains the two characters are “separate yet connected,” and “as Evanston moves forward together, we are turning over a new and necessary leaf. When focusing specifically on the Black community, the tree signifies roots (history) and strength.” She goes on to explain the background “pale yellow/beige color makes one think of something old (the past)” while the “lush green of the leaves stands out, showing the possibility of life.” She concludes, “the leaves are not static, but rustling in the wind — the wind of change.”

“On behalf of our City of Evanston and the ward where Temperance Beer Co. started, we stand with you as you take this historic step with our Local Reparations Fund,” says Evanston 2nd Ward Alderman Peter Braithwaite, adding, “you make me proud of where I am from.”

Beginning Friday, January, 29, Where I’m From will be available at the brewery, located at 2000 Dempster Street in Evanston. It will be available from local retailers in early February. Find more of Faith’s art on Instagram @happygolefty.

About the Evanston Reparations Fund

The City of Evanston’s reparations planning process began in June 2019 following the City Council’s adoption of a resolution affirming the City’s commitment to end structural racism and achieve racial equity. The City Council’s Equity and Empowerment Commission held two community meetings to gather public input on reparations in July, and summarized input and recommendations in a report to the City Council. In September, the Council accepted the Equity and Empowerment Commission’s report and authorized the creation of a City Council subcommittee to begin the planning process.

Pliny the Younger Sold Out Fast Leaving Many Disappointed

January 28, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Pliny the Younger Sold Out

Letter from Natalie, Vinnie and the entire RRBC Crew :

We understand that many of you may be very upset about not getting the Pliny the Younger mixed case. For that we are sincerely sorry. There were over 110,000 active users on the site trying to purchase the beer at the same time, which is extraordinary! We are very, very grateful that the entire site did not crash. Our IT Director had Shopify Support on the phone at 11 to troubleshoot any issues immediately, which thankfully there were none. We have also started the process of reviewing all orders in search of any evidence of BOTS, which we don’t suspect. But anything is possible.

Ecommerce platforms unfortunately don’t hold items in your cart until the transaction is complete, which many of us have experienced before when purchasing other things. With 110,000 people essentially “in line” to buy the same thing, we were bound to run out before everyone checked out.

Trying to release Pliny the Younger during a global pandemic with major restrictions to our business operations has posed many challenges for us as well. It is certainly not ideal but we are doing the best we can given the circumstances. We made as much Pliny the Younger as we can physically handle repacking and shipping from our brewery. It will take us 2 solid weeks to get all of these orders packed and shipped out! This was always intended to be a one-time only online Younger release. We plan to resume our normal in-person release next year along with draft distribution.

Again, we are very sorry that many of you are frustrated and disappointed about missing out out on this year’s Younger release. Thank you for all of your support especially during these challenging times. We look forward to getting back together again in person in 2022!

Thank you!

Natalie, Vinnie and the entire RRBC Crew

DC Brau Adds The Imperial DIPA to Flagship LineupWASHINGTON, D.C. — DC Brau is adding a new hoppy ale to its award-winning line-up of flagship craft beer this month with The Imperial, a hybrid Double IPA that crosses a New England-style Hazy IPA and a filtered American IPA for a unique drinking experience. The Imperial enters the market starting January 27th via the brewery’s online store and retail distribution.

“Imperial IPAs have been a favorite style of ours throughout the years — from On the Wings of Armageddon to Alpha Domina Mellis to Space Reaper, but they’ve always been seasonal offerings,” says Co-Founder & CEO Brandon Skall. “We’re excited to finally have a unique DIPA to stand alongside our flagships The Corruption, The Public, Joint Resolution, and Brau Pils all year long.”

“We’ve worked hard in the DC Brau innovation lab to create an Imperial IPA that plays to the discerning tastes and palates of the 21st century IPA and hop enthusiasts who want more aroma-forward offerings.” says Co-Founder & Brewmaster Jeff Hancock.

The Imperial (8% ABV) is brewed with copious amounts of malted oats and Mid-Atlantic wheat creating a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. Showcasing a mix of contemporary hops and advanced hop products, including El Dorado, Mosaic Incognito and Sabro Cryo, The Imperial provides a soft, balanced bitterness that IPA fans expect with complex bursts of tropical, stone fruit, tangerine/lime, sweet berry and vanilla cream flavors coupled with a subtle toasted coconut backbone and vibrant tropical fruit finish.

DC Brau’s new flagship DIPA will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce cans via the brewery’s website (dcbrau.com/order) for curbside pick-up and delivery within the District or through your favorite craft beer retailer and restaurants throughout the region starting Wednesday, January 27th. Firestone Walker Recasts Double Barrel Ale with Heritage Look for 25th Anniversary

January 28, 2021 by Dow Scoggins

Firestone Walker Recasts Double Barrel Ale with Heritage Look for 25th AnniversaryPASO ROBLES, California — In early 1996, two brothers-in-law launched their humble pursuit of the perfect beer. After acquiring a second-hand brewhouse from a junkyard in Los Angeles, they went to work in a converted shed on the back-forty of the family vineyard. Their first beer was Double Barrel Ale (DBA)—and the rest is history.

Now, 25 years later, Double Barrel Ale is being recast with a new “heritage” look that draws from the original design, reacquainting beer lovers with a British-style pale ale that Adam Firestone and David Walker have brewed continuously since day one. The new-look Double Barrel Ale is rolling out to Firestone Walker’s California markets this month.

To commemorate the brewery’s 25th anniversary, Firestone Walker has also launched an oral history series and look-back video, starting with the precarious first chapter of the brewery’s existence from 1996 through 2000. The video and initial oral history can be viewed at FirestoneBeer.com/stories.

Firestone Walker has also released a new short film highlighting its sustainability initiatives under the banner of Brewing for Tomorrow, all in the spirit of looking ahead to the next 25 years by addressing three key categories: clean energy, water conservation and waste elimination. The new short film and sustainability overview can be viewed at FirestoneBeer.com/brewing-for-tomorrow.

Firestone Walker’s sustainability initiatives have taken a massive step forward this year with the launch of the brewery’s new 9.7-acre solar array, which is one of the largest on-site solar arrays in the craft beer industry. This array ensures that the majority of Firestone Walker’s beer is now brewed with California sunshine, offsetting more than 3,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually, equal to the carbon sequestered by 4,220 acres of mature forestland.

“California’s Central Coast has been our home for a few generations— we have an affection for this place and feel an obligation to treat it as well as we possibly can,” Walker said. “Solar power gives us another reason to smile.”

Added Firestone, “Even after 25 years, we still believe that we can build a brewery of the future.”

Firestone Walker
Founded by brothers-in-law Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a California beer company with three innovative brewing facilities. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. Firestone Walker is also the brewery behind 805, one of the nation’s fastest-growing beers. Firestone Walker was recently named “Best American Brewery of the Decade” by Paste Magazine.

Pliny the Younger 2021 Final Thoughts, Tips and Tricks for Ordering!

January 27, 2021 by Dow Scoggins

Pliny the Younger 2021 Final Thoughts, Tips and Tricks for OrderingEveryone here at RRBC is busy getting ready for our Pliny the Younger 2021 online pre-sale release tomorrow, January 28th, at 11AM PST! This year’s merchandise has arrived and is for sale now online HERE and in both the Santa Rosa and Windsor Gift Shops, including a Pliny the Younger salami made locally by Journeyman Meats. Delicious! Here are some final thoughts, tips and tricks if you are planning to order the mixed case on Thursday:

Each non-customizable mixed case holds 12 510ml bottles including: 4 Pliny the Younger, 2 Pliny the Elder, 2 Happy Hops, 2 STS Pils, and 2 Funky Foeder Cherry Beer, which is a sour/tart foeder-aged cherry beer never before released!

If you have not purchased from our online store before, I recommend purchasing Younger merchandise or anything else in advance (even morning of) so that your information will be saved as a customer in our Shopify store. This will make checking out a much faster process for the mixed case.

I recommend buying just the mixed case in one transaction. You can then take your time to browse our other merchandise, if interested, and not worry about missing out on the mixed case. Beer and merchandise ship separately anyway, so there are no cost savings by putting it all in the same transaction.

Most, if not all, ecommerce platforms will not hold items in your cart until you have checked out. Make sure you hit “Checkout” to complete your order as soon as possible.

We are planning to review all orders once the pre-sale is over to check for anything that looks out of the ordinary or suspicious, such as a large number of cases shipping to one address. If we do find more than 4 or 5 cases shipping to the same address, we will likely be making some follow up inquiries. Our intention is to allow as many beer enthusiasts and Younger fans, like yourself, to have access to this year’s Pliny the Younger under these highly unusual circumstances!

Pliny the Younger will be bottled February 3rd and orders will start shipping out on February 8th!
Just a reminder that every bottle of Pliny the Younger this year will be leaving on the back of a GLS truck. No bottles will be available at either brewery until 2022!

Finally, Governor Newsom just lifted the statewide stay at home order which means we will be able to reopen for outdoor dining soon. We have decided to wait a couple of weeks to reopen due to inclement winter weather, pending the installation of our new tent for outdoor dining in Santa Rosa, and to help curtail large groups of people showing up the first Friday of February on the off chance they did not get the message about Younger!

Thank you, everyone, for your unwavering support through these unprecedented and unique times! We look forward to welcoming you and Pliny the Younger back to our pubs in person in 2022!

Cheers-

Natalie, Vinnie and the RRBC Crew
