Grey Sail Brewing Celebrates 10 Years of Captain’s Daughter

October 7, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

WESTERLY, R.I. – Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island is raising a glass to its fan-favorite, Captain’s Daughter Double IPA, to celebrate the beer’s 10th anniversary. Since its release in 2014, Captain’s Daughter has become a staple for craft beer enthusiasts, known for its bold hop character and vibrant tropical and citrus flavors.

“After finalizing the recipe for Captain’s Daughter and tasting the first batch, I thought we might have something special,” said Grey Sail co-founder and owner Alan Brinton. “Over the past decade, it’s been incredible to see how our Double IPA has resonated with beer lovers and become a flagship product for Grey Sail. It’s a testament to our team’s dedication and passion for brewing.”

Captain’s Daughter Double IPA is a robust brew at 8.5% ABV. It features an explosive combination of Chinook, Citra, and Mosaic hops, delivering a delightful burst of tropical and citrus flavors. Originally available in 12-ounce cans and draft, it is now also offered in 16-ounce and 19.2-ounce cans, as well as on draft, ensuring fans can enjoy it in their preferred format.

To celebrate this milestone, Grey Sail is giving Captain’s Daughter a special new look. The limited-edition cans feature a gold lid, and the iconic green label displays fireworks with the number 10 at the center, marking 10 years of the double IPA.

“Captain’s Daughter has played a crucial role in Grey Sail’s success, not only putting us on the map in the beer community but also enabling us to give back, especially within our own community,” said Grey Sail co-founder and owner Jen Brinton. “Thanks to this success, Grey Sail has been able to support phenomenal non-profits in our region, benefiting our business community, our veterans, our neighbors, pets needing homes, the arts, and the environment. Our IPA fans empower us to give back.”

In addition to the special edition can, Grey Sail is hosting a weekend full of fun events from Friday, November 8, to Sunday, November 10, at Grey Sail’s Taproom. Attendees can enjoy various activities celebrating a decade of Captain’s Daughter and savor a pint or two of the delicious brew.

Captain’s Daughter 10th Anniversary Weekend

Friday, Nov. 8: “Taste of Captain’s Daughter” – ticketed event includes a specialty glass and sampling from local food and drink vendors. Time: 4-7 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 9: Special limited glass release; axe throwing from 1-4 p.m.; live music from James Harris from 1-4 p.m.; Vetrano’s Wood Fired from 12-8 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 10: “Veterans Beverages Are on Us!” – Veteran’s Cup release and extra Veteran’s Day discounts; live music from Ben Boisclair from 1-4 p.m.; Vetrano’s Wood Fired from noon to 6 p.m.
“When Captain’s Daughter first hit the market, Grey Sail couldn’t keep up with the demand from distributors,” said Carey Niekrash Beralderi, Grey Sail’s director of sales. “The response was overwhelming, and it quickly became clear that this beer was going to be a game-changer for Grey Sail. It’s been amazing to watch it grow and evolve over the years.”

Captain’s Daughter is available year-round in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

New Realm Brewing Company Becomes the Official Craft Beer Partner of Kennesaw State University

October 2, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

ATLANTA, GA – Just in time for the start of the fall college sports season, award-winning craft brewer New Realm Brewing Company has been named the Official Craft Beer partner of Kennesaw State University (KSU), which includes the full portfolio of the craft brewer’s products.

Both the brewer and university are based in Georgia. KSU features campuses in Kennesaw and Marietta, and New Realm welcomes guests to its flagship founding craft brewery, distillery and locally sourced scratch restaurant in Atlanta. The first collaboration as part of the local partnership is the release of OWL IN American Lager, an homage to the Kennesaw State Owls, with packaging highlighting the university’s signature black and gold color palette and the signature Owls emblem front and center.

“Crafted for refreshment, OWL IN is made with a smooth hop bill featuring Magnum, Hersbrucker and lemondrop hops. The result is a 4% ABV lager with a straw-gold color, 115 calories and 9 carbs. Available in select markets year-round, the beer will be available in 12-ounce 6-packs, 16-ounce singles and draft packages,” explained Mitch Steele, NRBC Brewmaster. A product locator can be found here.

“We’re proud of our new partnership as the Official Craft Beer of KSU,” said Jeff Chassner, Chief Sales Officer at New Realm Brewing Company. “I’m excited about every product in our portfolio, but as an alumnus of KSU, launching OWL IN has been a passion project for me. We’re thrilled to introduce this new beer during such a fun time of year for college sports fans.”

Kennesaw State University officially became a member of Conference USA in June. The evolution of the university’s sports competition at the Division I level mirrors its growth as the third-largest university in Georgia.

“Our goal has always been to create moments of happiness for our patrons and support the communities in which we live, brew, and play. We are excited to welcome the KSU community into the New Realm family,” stated Carey Falcone, CEO of New Realm Brewing Company.
