Alaskan Brewing’s Ice-Shattering New Release

January 27, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

JUNEAU, Alaska – As we ring in the new year, the Alaskan Brewing Company breaks the ice with their announcement of the new Chillin’ Cold IPA.

With all these new styles of IPA, you may scratch your head at the mention of a so-called “Cold IPA”. A Cold IPA is a brew fermented at temperatures lower than what is normally used to ferment ale-style beers. This cold fermentation perfectly complements the in-house yeast strain of Alaskan Brewing, which ferments naturally at a colder temperature while still providing all the benefits of a higher temperature fermentation. Colder fermentation temperatures are nothing new to Alaskan Brewing, in fact breweries in Alaska have been using colder fermentation since the gold rush days when for a constant temperature, some relied on mine shafts for cooler and more stable temperature control. This makes Alaskan Brewing’s yeast particularly suited for the Cold IPA style. Alaskan Brewing has been cold fermenting since its inception in 1986, making it a world-class producer of this style. But, we’ll let the drinkers decide that.

This pale gold brew is a hop forward ale that presents crisp, clean, and easy drinking. With notes of grapefruit, as is traditional with West Coast IPAs, and undertone layers of strawberries on the nose. The Chillin Cold IPA is a bright and refreshing beer that goes back to basics with the strong use of Cascade and Centennial Hops in balance with Pilsen and Wheat malts.

Coming in at a cool 6% ABV with 55 IBUs, the Chillin Cold IPA will be hitting shelves in early January and can be found anywhere you can find Alaskan Brewing’s Limited Release Series.

Sip Sip Hooray! MadTree Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

January 26, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cheers to ten years. MadTree, Ohio’s first craft brewery to can their beer is officially a decade old and has become so much more than craft beer. Over its history, MadTree has moved into a new facility in Oakley, branched out and launched a vodka soda line, Sway by MadTree, and opened Alcove kitchen + bar in historic Over-The-Rhine. They have also joined 1% for the Planet, giving back 1% of all sales to local environmentally sustainable nonprofits, achieved LEED Gold certification at their Alcove location, and applied for B-corp certification.

“Fifty percent of small businesses fail within five years,” says Co-owner Kenny McNutt, “To be at a point where we’re double that mark along with all the new innovation and different areas of business we’ve tapped into is a testament to our community’s support and our employees’ commitment to the brand.”

It started as friends brewing together in a garage who took the leap to start a business doing something they actually enjoy. Now, it’s a company that is driven to produce the best products around while giving back to the community and connecting people to nature and each other.

“We’re so proud of how far we’ve come as both a company and as people,” says Co-owner Brady Duncan. “It’s been a whirlwind of ups and downs, but we’ve never been more focused and aligned than where we are now. The next ten years and beyond are going to be really exciting as we continue to build a brand that we want our kids and future generations to be proud of.”

MadTree is also bringing back their anniversary party, Bonanza, for the first time since 2020 on February 25th, 2023. Featuring a brunch bingo, cake baking contest with Cincinnati Magazine, rare beers from guest breweries, a DANCEFIX performance, live music, karaoke, food trucks, and more, this is going to be their best birthday bash yet.

“This is one of our favorite traditions here at MadTree,” says McNutt, “And it’s so nice to say that it’s finally back. Bonanza epitomizes everything we love to celebrate including our community, friends, local partners & businesses as well as other breweries.”

Like every purchase you make, 1% of all sales during Bonanza will be donated back to local nonprofits like Cincinnati Parks Foundation, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Adventure Crew, and Groundwork ORV.

“It’s important to support these clubs and the local music community,” says John Cimperman, 42 North’s Founder. “In talking to a number of the club owners over the past few months, they are still looking to return to pre-pandemic attendance numbers. It’s also important to note that these venues also support 42 North and the local craft beer.”

Jason Hall from Sportsmens Tavern adds, “Local music, local clubs, and local beer go together. As a matter of fact, when bands come into town, they want to know what’s local on tap. So it’s important for us to represent Buffalo’s craft breweries.”

WeldWerks Announces Beer Release Calendar and More Beer Out of State in 2023

January 24, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

GREELEY, Colorado— Once a brewery selling the majority of its volume through the taproom, WeldWerks Brewing Co. has since become a nationally recognized beer-maker in its nearly eight-year span. The brewery has grown in production, nearly tripling its barrelage annually, created more than 100 beer brands per year since 2018, established Colorado as a significant player in the Hazy IPA beer category with Juicy Bits, and has garnered impressive acclaim with its Medianoche Barrel-Aged Stout program.

As WeldWerks matures, the brewery is continuing to pour its passion and dedication into its craft while leveling up its business plan. This year WeldWerks will increase its focus and reach in the following states: California, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.

“Expanding our distribution footprint is a natural evolution for WeldWerks,” says WeldWerks Co-Founder and Co-Owner Neil Fisher. “Colorado will always be our home and our primary market, but over the years we have been humbled and overwhelmed by our popularity beyond the Colorado borders. As we continue to grow as a brand, we want to make sure our beers are accessible to all customers.”

In addition to increased distribution outside of Colorado, WeldWerks has honed in on select core beers that will be available year-round and quarterly. While all of these beers will be available in WeldWerks’ target markets, the brewery will still have rotating beers throughout the year.

WeldWerks’ 2023 Beer Release Calendar, which includes Juicy Bits, Extra Extra Juicy Bits, and Weld Pilsner as year-round offerings, are a reflection of beers that have been received well by consumers and represent the brewery’s passion to produce with more frequency. The brewery will also release a quarterly sour ale, such as its immensely popular Bamm Bamm Rubble Rubble, and a quarterly Hazy IPA, like Evil Haze Factory, both available through March.

“As we grow, we’ve adapted our strategies,” says Fisher. “An annual release calendar helps implement more stability and predictability to our production planning as we continue to foster the culture of innovation that we value and have worked hard to establish and maintain.”

January 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

SALISBURY, North Carolina – New Sarum Brewing Company, the popular North Carolina brewery whose beers have won medals at the world’s two most prestigious competitions, will be joining beverage platform Bevana to grow its distribution and reach new customers across the country. Long a feature of the southern craft beer scene, the company will be placing its focus firmly on growth and on continuing the innovation that has led to it being one of the region’s most awarded producers.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be joining the Bevana Family! This partnership is built on quality, comradery and innovation, the same foundation that we built our company on from the very beginning,” said Andy Maben, founder of New Sarum. “Their vision and team of craft beer gurus are going to do wonders to bring our brand to a new audience of craft beer lovers. We’ve always taken pride in our high standards, while continuing to facilitate customer education and adapting to the ever-changing craft beverage market. This is the next step in our journey, and we’re excited to get going!”

Bevana will help to manage the distribution for New Sarum, giving the brewery the ability to focus its resources and efforts on continuing to foster the creativity and quality that earned it medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, the two most highly-regarded competitions in the industry. Its core lineup, anchored by Hurley Park Blood Orange Wheat Ale and Old Stone House IPA will be joined by new and returning entries in the popular Griffin series, including the standout People’s Elbow, a Hazy IPA brewed with Coconuts and Lactose. New creations will be available both in retail establishments and in their Salisbury, NC taproom on a regular basis, carrying on the tradition of exciting innovation that customers have come to associate with the company.

New Sarum will additionally see expanded distribution through Bevana’s platform, which is designed to help the industry’s most exciting breweries to cut through the complex and often contradictory wholesale landscape to put the focus back on the customers. With their help, New Sarum will be able to not only access new markets and retail outlets, but connect more directly with the craft beer drinkers that continue to seek the highest quality beers available.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to know the folks over at New Sarum for years, and they really are a craft beer drinker’s dream brewery in so many ways,” explained Aaron Gore, Bevana’s Senior Director of Business Development. “As the industry has gotten more competitive, however, breweries like New Sarum have been increasingly trapped between a rock and a hard place of trying to just get their beer into the hands of customers. We are excited to be able to help navigate the difficult waters of distribution alongside them, so that instead of everyone worrying about the logistics of how we get these things into peoples’ hands, they can just focus on making the best quality beer possible. That’s what this industry was always supposed to be about.”

New Sarum’s beers will also be offered through Bevana’s online shop, where all of the platform’s beverage partners may be ordered and shipped directly to customers’ homes or businesses. With the ability to deliver beer to customers in forty-two states, it helps beverage makers and drinkers cut through the noise and the barriers that stand in the way of enjoying the best drinks that the world has to offer, regardless of location.

January 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

TURLOCK, California – Dust Bowl Brewing Co. kicks off the new year with the release of The Gold 1 Blonde Ale in six pack / 12oz. cans. The packaged offering comes on the heals of the draft introduction in the fall of 2022.

At 4.5% ABV, the year-round, core beer adds another easy-drinking option to Dust Bowl’s extensive portfolio. Brewmaster, Don Oliver, shares, “This is a crisp beer for everyday drinking. It’s very approachable and great for social settings. The Gold 1 provides a great option for those that seek a lighter style craft beer.”

The packaging features a bold, simple approach to catch consumers’ attention. The beer name and colors embark on a California vibe in poppy gold and blue.

The brewery also operates three taprooms in California, including its flagship taproom adjacent to the brewery in Turlock, the Tap Depot in the popular destination of Monterey and its latest location, the Old Town Tap House in Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento. A fourth taproom is slated to open in the San Francisco East Bay city of Livermore later this year.

DENVER, Colorado – Every January, River North Brewery throws a party in celebration of stout connoisseurs everywhere. The brewery will be hosting Super Stout 2023 on January 28. This year’s celebration will feature TWELVE different stouts at its Washington Street taproom, as well as an additional half-dozen options at its RiNo taproom on Blake Street.
