Von Ebert Brewing Celebrates 8th Anniversary with Two Collaboration Beers with Other Half Brewing

April 15, 2026 by Dustin Scoggins

image-01Portland, Ore. — Von Ebert Brewing is celebrating its 8th anniversary this month with two new collaboration beers brewed with renowned Brooklyn brewery Other Half Brewing Company.

The special releases include an 8th Anniversary Pilsner and an 8th Anniversary Hazy IPA, honoring the brewery’s signature focus on Pilsners and IPAs.
“While we make award-winning beer in many styles, it made sense for us to stick with what we’re most known for—Pilsners and IPAs,” said Sam Pecoraro, brewmaster of Von Ebert Brewing. “Von Ebert Brewing is always looking to produce beers ‘where tradition meets evolution,’ and these collaborations are a perfect way to celebrate eight years of doing exactly that.”

The Anniversary Collaboration Beers

8th Anniversary Pilsner – 5.0% ABV with bright notes of strawberry, passionfruit, and noble hops
8th Anniversary Hazy IPA – 7.0% ABV bursting with mango, peach, and grapefruit flavors

Both beers are now available in 16 oz cans and on draft at all Von Ebert Brewing locations in Portland, as well as at select retailers, restaurants, and bars across the Northwest.

“Known for our Hazy IPAs, we were very excited to partner with Von Ebert Brewing to exchange ideas,” said Sam Richardson, co-owner of Other Half Brewing Company. “And it’s fitting two Sams who swapped coasts would come up with some delicious beers that we hope everyone enjoys.”

Current Deals and Offerings at Von Ebert

Visitors to Von Ebert Brewing can enjoy several ongoing specials:

$3 20-ounce steins of gold medal-winning Clubhaus Lager all day, every day at all locations
$5 Volatile Substance NW IPA from noon to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the N. Mississippi location
Food from Tehuana Mexican Cuisine available daily at the N. Mississippi taproom (825 N. Cook St.), plus HarBQ on weekends

The brewery has also expanded its non-alcohol options with hop sparkling waters and hard seltzers, with hard teas and hard punches planned for later this year.

Growth and Expansion

The new brewing facility on N. Mississippi has dramatically increased production capacity — from 4,000 barrels to up to 20,000 barrels per year. Von Ebert Brewing has significantly grown its canned beer offerings and now distributes across Oregon, Washington, Colorado, California, and Japan.

About Von Ebert Brewing

Founded in 2018 by Tom M. Cook and Tom S. Cook in Portland, Oregon, Von Ebert Brewing is named after the family matriarch, “Grandma Ebert.” An immigrant from Germany who arrived via Ellis Island, Grandma Ebert embodied grit and determination that the brewery continues to honor today.
“Von Ebert” loosely translates to “House of the Boar.” The brewery has earned multiple World Beer Cup medals, including:

2025 Gold – American Light Lager (Clubhaus)
2023 Gold – German-Style Pilsner (Pils)
2024 Bronze – Vienna Lager

New Riff Distilling and Rhinegeist Brewing Release DUET American Whiskey: A Barley-Focused Collaboration

April 15, 2026 by Dustin Scoggins

image-01

Newport, KY — Two beloved Greater Cincinnati-area beverage makers have teamed up to create DUET American Whiskey, a unique collaboration between New Riff Distilling (Newport, KY) and Rhinegeist Brewing (Cincinnati, OH).

Highlighting barley — a key grain in both whiskey and beer — this special-release whiskey blends Kentucky’s distilling heritage with Cincinnati’s rich brewing tradition.

A Natural Collaboration Between Brewers and Distillers

New Riff Master Distiller Brian Sprance, a former brewer himself, partnered with the Rhinegeist team on the project.
“This collaboration wasn’t intended to recreate something that already exists,” said Sprance. “Brewers work with an incredible range of grains, malts, and yeast strains, and with our shared background in brewing, that creative overlap felt very natural. The result is a whiskey that’s a little unexpected for Kentucky, and a great reflection of what can happen when distillers and brewers who’ve known each other for years come together to create something new.”

Unique Mashbill and Aging Process

DUET American Whiskey features an uncommon mashbill of 57% malted barley, 37% raw barley, and 6% rye.
It undergoes a distinctive aging regimen: the majority rested in new American oak barrels, with select portions in Spanish oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. The final blend was married in a massive foeder previously used for beer maturation at Rhinegeist, then re-barreled into used American oak barrels to harmonize flavors.

Aged at least 6 years and bottled at 111.2 proof (55.6% ABV), DUET offers:

Nose: Fresh barley and bright grain, with notes of green melon, tangerine, orchard fruit, dark fruit, and leathery sherry.
Palate: Traditional grain flavors with delicate savory notes, cracker malt, citrus, and rich sherry influence.
Finish: Lingering sherry and tangerine notes.

Bottle Design and Community Ties

The collaboration extends to the bottle artwork, created by graphic designers Jared Wagner (New Riff) and Chloe Rethman (Rhinegeist), who met while working at FC Cincinnati and were married last May.

“We’re thrilled to add another layer of meaning to Spirit of the Rhine when limited quantities of DUET are released across Ohio and Kentucky in concert with our friends across the river at New Riff Distilling,” said Rhinegeist CEO Adam Bankovich. “The project was inspired by the mutual appreciation our teams have for each other, and it is no surprise the past year of collaboration has been so harmonious.”

Availability

DUET American Whiskey goes on sale Friday, April 10, 2026, for $79.99 per 750ml bottle at New Riff’s gift shop and select retailers in Ohio and Kentucky.
It is also available by the pour in The Aquifer Tasting Room at New Riff Distilling and at Rhinegeist’s Tap Room.
This marks the latest in New Riff’s series of local collaborations, following previous partnerships with Cincinnati brands and Graeter’s ice cream in 2025.

About New Riff Distilling

Fiercely independent and innovative, New Riff Distilling was founded in 2014 in Newport, Kentucky. The distillery uses time-honored sour mash methods and bottled-in-bond standards while creating fresh riffs on tradition. It produces award-winning bourbon, rye, single malt whiskey, and gin. Its flagship Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was named the World’s Best Bourbon at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards. New Riff sources pristine water from a private aquifer well and offers a popular private barrel selection program. Public spaces include the Riff Shop and The Aquifer Tasting Room, featuring cocktails, flights, and rare releases.

About Rhinegeist Brewery

Founded in 2013 in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, Rhinegeist Brewery (“Spirit of the Rhine”) operates in a pre-Prohibition bottling plant. Ranked as Ohio’s largest craft brewery by volume and 16th largest in the U.S. (2024 Brewers Association report), Rhinegeist crafts beers with spirit and community focus.

About Sloop Brewing Co.
Sloop Brewing Co. first set sail in 2011 when friends Adam Watson and second-generation brewer Justin Taylor turned a modest garage in Poughkeepsie, New York, into their launching pad for craft beer dreams. Inspired by the historic sloops that once gracefully navigated the Hudson River, the duo began by pouring their hearts into small-batch brews and selling them at local farmers’ markets while hand-delivering kegs across the Hudson Valley. What started as a passionate side project quickly caught wind, leading to a post-and-beam barn facility in Elizaville and, in 2018, the grand opening of their expansive “The Factory” brewery and taproom on a former IBM campus in East Fishkill. Today, Sloop Brewing Co. proudly stands as one of the fastest-growing craft breweries in the country, blending deep roots in brewing tradition with an adventurous spirit that keeps the good times flowing.

At the heart of Sloop’s fleet is the legendary Juice Bomb, a hazy, golden New England-style IPA that explodes with vibrant tropical citrus, juicy stone fruit, and piney hop notes while staying refreshingly approachable at 6.5% ABV. This unfiltered favorite, which dominates production, has earned a loyal following for delivering big hop flavor without the heavy bitterness, making it a go-to for beer lovers of all stripes. The lineup stays fun and flavorful with standout offerings like the crushably smooth Super Soft hazy IPA, crisp lagers, and an ever-rotating cast of creative limited releases that keep enthusiasts coming back for more. Whether raising a glass at the vibrant Factory taproom or cracking open a can at home, Sloop Brewing Co. delivers pure craft beer joy with every pour.  Learn more at sloopbrewing.com.

Von Ebert + Shred Beer = Super Shredder

October 3, 2025 by Spencer Mapes

PORTLAND, Oregon — Von Ebert Brewing releases its collaboration “Super Shredder”, a West Coast IPA brewed with Shred Beer Co. from Rocklin, California.

“Shred Beer Co. is small but mighty, making a great name for themselves by winning Great American Beer Festival’s small brewery of the year and collecting several World Beer Cup Gold medals for their IPAs,” said Sam Pecoraro, brewmaster of Von Ebert Brewing. “Last year, we had so much fun working with Amy and Zack on ‘Concentrated Substance,’ a spinoff of ‘Volatile Substance NW IPA,’ that we wanted to build off that project and continue to bounce ideas off close friends.”

Throughout October, “Super Shredder” WC IPA will be available on draft at all Von Ebert Brewing locations as well as in 4-pack 16-ounce cans to-go and in West Coast bars, bottleshops and grocery stores.

“Von Ebert Brewing’s commitment to constantly evolving while honoring tradition makes for a fun collaborative experience with friends where nothing is sacred if it means delivering the best beer possible,” said Zack Frasher and Amy Heller, co-owners and brewers of Shred Beer Co. “In the ‘Super Shredder’ West Coast IPA, we used five types of hops to give tasting notes of diesel, dank, raspberry and passionfruit on this 7.5% ABV beer.”

In 2025, Von Ebert Brewing will have made six collaboration beers with breweries in Oregon, California and the last one will be with Cloudburst Brewing in Seattle, Washington scheduled for December.

Von Ebert Brewing recently opened its new N. Mississippi location (825 N. Cook St., Portland) – home to Portland’s largest beer can – to expand production and distribution from 4,000 barrels per year to as much as 20,000 barrels per year. This has allowed Von Ebert Brewing to sell more of its offerings in 12-ounce cans including: Volatile Substance NW IPA, Sector 7 Hazy IPA, Pils a German-style Pilsner and Clubhaus Lager.

Von Ebert Brewing was founded in 2018 by Tom M. Cook and Tom S. Cook in Portland, Oregon. Von Ebert Brewing is named after the family matriarch lovingly refer to as “Grandma Ebert.” The quintessential immigrant story, Grandma Ebert came to America from Germany via Ellis Island and relied on her grit and determination to create a successful life for her family here in the states. In that vein, the brewery has displayed those same traits and gained success through numerous World Beer Cup medals: 2025 Gold American Light Lager with Clubhaus, 2023 Gold German-Style Pilsner with Pils and 2024 Bronze Vienna Lager. Our moniker celebrates Grandma’s tenacity and honors our heritage. Von Ebert translates loosely to “House of Ebert” or in full English, “House of the Boar.”

Cheers to 35 years of craft, community, and Kansas City pride – here’s to the next pour!

About Boulevard Brewing Company
Boulevard Brewing Company, Kansas City’s craft beer pioneer, kicked off its legacy on November 17, 1989, when founder John McDonald personally delivered the first keg of Boulevard Pale Ale to a local bar. What started in a modest brick warehouse with a single 35-barrel brewhouse has grown into the Midwest’s largest independent craft brewery, now boasting a 200-barrel system and distribution across 40+ states. From the hoppy, citrus-kissed Pale Ale that ignited the region’s craft revolution to iconic staples like Unfiltered Wheat Beer—a hazy, lemony crowd-pleaser—and Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, with its bold Belgian yeast and grapefruit zest, Boulevard blends tradition with fearless experimentation. Smokestack Series limited releases, such as bourbon barrel-aged quads and rye whiskey-finished stouts, showcase the brewery’s mastery of wood and time, earning medals at FoBAB and GABF alike.

Over 35 years, Boulevard has stayed true to its Kansas City roots while pushing boundaries—collaborating with local distillers like Holladay for barrel-aged gems, launching the 35th Anniversary Ale in 2024, and fostering community through tours, a sprawling Beer Hall, and sustainability initiatives like solar power and water reclamation. With a portfolio spanning crisp lagers, juicy IPAs, tart sours, and decadent imperial stouts, Boulevard remains a gateway for new drinkers and a benchmark for craft veterans. Every pour reflects McDonald’s original mantra: brew bold, drink local, celebrate together.

About Holladay Distillery
Nestled in the rolling hills of Weston, Missouri, Holladay Distillery stands as the oldest continuously operating distillery west of the Mississippi River, a living testament to American ingenuity since its founding in 1856 by the audacious brothers Ben and Major David Holladay. Inspired by a pristine limestone spring first charted by Lewis and Clark in 1804, the siblings transformed a former meat-packing site into a bourbon powerhouse, harnessing the mineral-rich water to distill their inaugural batch from a mash of corn, rye, wheat, and barley—sold in 1857 for a mere 35 cents per gallon. Ben, the “Stagecoach King” who built an empire spanning Wells Fargo lines and the Pony Express, became America’s largest private employer by 1864, yet it was this humble distillery that endured as his true legacy, weathering ownership changes, a 1957 fire, and a rebranding as McCormick Distilling Company in 1942 before a 1993 revival by local investors. Revitalized in 2016 to honor its roots, the site—listed on the National Register of Historic Places—underwent a $10 million renovation in 2015, resuming on-site bourbon production after decades away, now crafting Bottled-in-Bond expressions like the flagship Ben Holladay Missouri Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Soft Red Wheat, aged in historic ironclad rickhouses under Missouri’s dramatic seasonal swings for a depth of caramel, vanilla, and spice that whispers of 169 years of craft.

Birds Barbershop Gets Crafty, Taps St. Elmo Brewing Co. as New Beer Partner

January 8, 2025 by Spencer Mapes

AUSTIN, TX – Today, Birds Barbershop proudly begins serving St. Elmo Brewing Co.’s signature brew Carl at the barbershop’s nine Austin locations. The partnership kicks off with a fun “Free Cuts for Carl” promotion, offering anyone named Carl – with proper I.D. and 21+ years of age – a complimentary haircut, along with St. Elmo’s flagship beer of the same name, the entire month of January.

“We’ve always dreamed of a partner like St. Elmo that taps into that same homegrown, Austin vibe,” said Birds Barbershop co-founder Michael Portman. “Our companies were founded down the street from each other in South Austin, and we both value our local communities above all else.”

Founded in 2016 at 440 E. St. Elmo Rd., St. Elmo Brewing was established by a group of passionate beer lovers with a vision to create high-quality craft beers in Austin. The company recently added a second brewery and taproom location at 8110 Springdale Road. The brewery hosts events, live music, and food trucks, making it a hotspot for locals, just like Birds Barbershop.

“When I moved to Austin, I got my first haircut at Birds Barbershop and received a free beer with my haircut,” said Bryan Winslow, co-founder of St. Elmo Brewing Company. “It is beyond cool to now be the brew of choice at all Birds’ locations, and we already have plans for more fun collaborations to come.”

In addition to St. Elmo Carl, Birds Barbershop will feature St. Elmo Hazy IPA and, for those embracing Dry January, St. Elmo Hop Water. Each following month, the lineup will spotlight St. Elmo Carl alongside rotating seasonal favorites, including award-winning brews like St. Elmo Amber Lager and St. Elmo West IPA. These beverages will be available year-round at all Birds Barbershop locations for clients aged 21 and up. For more information or to book a haircut, color or style service, visit birdsbarbershop.com.

About Birds Barbershop

In 2006, childhood friends Michael Portman and Jayson Rapaport found themselves living in Austin, TX, with nowhere to get an affordable, high-quality haircut. Together, they created a salon for men and women, took out all the fuss, and added free beer to the experience. An addiction to old school arcade games developed. Birds Barbershop has been named six consecutive times to ELLE Magazine’s list of the 100 best salons in America and by the Austin Chronicle as Best Haircut every year since opening. Today, Birds Barbershop serves upwards of 20,000 people monthly and employs more than 150 people in nine locations across Austin.

About St. Elmo Brewing

Since opening in 2016, St. Elmo Brewing has become a staple in Austin’s vibrant craft beer scene. Known for crafting approachable beers that cater to all types of drinkers, St. Elmo offers a wide range of styles from hazy IPAs to traditional German lagers. These beers can be enjoyed onsite at the brewery’s two Austin locations or found on menus and retail shelves throughout the city. Recognized as one of Condé Nast Traveler’s Best Breweries in Austin, and with multiple gold medals from the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) and U.S. Beer Open, they recently expanded to a larger second location in East Austin. True to its roots, St. Elmo continues to be a hub for the community by regularly hosting programming and events like the popular Grassy Thursdays and weekly trivia nights. The brewery also fosters creative collaboration through partnerships with local artists and designers with their influence seen not only in the design of the brewery’s space but also in the artwork featured on the cans, including those for the flagship Carl Kölsch, St. Elmo Amber, St. Elmo Hazy, St. Elmo West, and Hop Water. U.S. Open Beer Championship Announces the Best Kokua Project IPAs

November 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

U.S. Open Beer Championship Announces the Best Kokua Project IPAsOXFORD, Ohio – The U.S. Open Beer Championship, one of the top three beer competitions in the United States, is giving back to The Kokua Project and including the initiative’s Kokua IPAs for evaluation in its annual U.S. Open Cider Championship.

As a part of The Kokua Project, which is led by Maui Brewing Company and inspired by Sierra Nevada’s 2018 Resilience project, more than 700 breweries across the US and internationally have pledged to brew Kokua and donate the beer’s proceeds to Maui relief efforts via the Global Empowerment Mission. Kokua is a Session IPA that delivers a refreshing wave of tropical hop aroma atop a delicate malt base.

“Judging these beers during the U.S. Open is a way to raise awareness around this disaster relief effort, and to celebrate the breweries across the country that are banding together to raise funds for those impacted by the tragic Maui wildfires,” said Dow Scoggins, founder of the U.S. Open Beer & Cider Championships. The U.S. Open donated $3,000 to Maui Beer Company Wildfire Fund as a part of The Kokua Project.

Each brewery that submits a Kokua IPA to the competition donated a $85 entry fee to Maui relief efforts. Kokua IPA was judged in its own category, alongside the wide array of cider entries the annual fall competition is known for. Tasting one beer recipe brewed by many different breweries from across the country is a unique, exciting prospect for judges.

“We are eager to taste and evaluate the Kokua Project beers from venerated breweries all over the country,” said Spencer Mapes, Director of the U.S. Open. “But it’s important to note that they were all brewed with helping hands and open hearts, meaning they are all winners at the end of the day.”

The judges’ favorite Kokua IPAs include:

Kokua Session IPA
GOLD – Twin Creeks Brewing – Virginia
SILVER – Aspire Brewing – New York
BRONZE – Shovel Town Brewery – Massachusetts

Kokua IPA
GOLD – HighGrain Brewing – Ohio
SILVER – Forbidden Peak Brewery – Alaska
BRONZE – Movement Brewing – California
BRONZE – Buck Wild Brewing – Texas

Beer lovers and those looking to support Maui’s relief efforts can find Kokua in many taprooms across every state. Donate directly to the Maui Beer Company Fire Fund online at mauibrewingco.com/mbcfire.

About the U.S. Open Beer Championship
The U.S. Open Beer Championship was founded in 2009 and judges more beer styles than any other competition in the world. The U.S. Open is also the only major beer competition to allow the gold medal winners of the AHA’s National Homebrew Competition to participate. The U.S. Open judging is held at the U.S. Open Event Center in Oxford, Ohio. The U.S. Open became the first beer competition to be held in its own venue, a 6,000-square-foot Amish pole barn on a small farm. The barn consists of a judging area, a serving area, two 450-square-foot coolers, an office, and a nano brewery. About the Kokua Project
The Kokua Project is one beer, brewed by many, to support our Maui ‘Ohana who have been affected by the tragic wildfires. More than 700 breweries across the US and internationally have volunteered to brew Kokua and pledged to donate the proceeds to the Global Empowerment Mission, the nonprofit organization that is facilitating the Maui Brewing Company Fire Fund. Kokua, translated as “extending help to others” in the Hawaiian language, is coordinated by Maui Brewing Company and inspired by Sierra Nevada’s Resilience project of 2018. Kokua is a Session IPA that delivers a refreshing wave of tropical hop aroma atop a delicate malt base. Beer lovers and those looking to support Maui’s relief efforts can find Kokua in many taprooms across every state.

AZ Wilderness Partners With Equality Maricopa to Make Arizona’s First LGBT License Plate a Reality

June 6, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

PHOENIX, Arizona – Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. announced the launch of Prism, a prickly pear lager that will raise funds to create Arizona’s first LGBTQIA+ license plate.

The beer is being released in collaboration with Equality Maricopa, a resource group that supports LGBTQIA+ students and employees of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges across the Valley. Last year, Equality Maricopa began the push for Arizona to create a specialty license plate, proceeds from which would fund the PRISM Scholarship—a scholarship for LGBTQIA+ students—in perpetuity. If the license plate is adopted, Arizona will become one of the first states with an LGBTQIA+-themed license plate design.

To get the license plate produced, the organization needs to provide the state with $32,000, and they’re over halfway toward that goal. A percentage of the sales of Prism (the beer) will be donated to help them get the rest of the way.

Speaking of the beer: Named for the PRISM Scholarship, Prism is a delightfully fruit-forward lager brewed with Arizona-grown prickly pear. The label on each can includes an illustration of the proposed design of the license plate. Each can also includes a QR code with a link to make a direct donation to the PRISM Scholarship fund.

To celebrate the beer’s launch, Equality Maricopa will be hosting a happy hour at Arizona Wilderness’ DTPHX beer garden from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, June 10. A dollar from every pint of beer sold during the event will be donated to the license plate creation fund.
