Resolute Brewing Rebrands, Invests More In Local Malt, Shares Community Influence In 2022 Year In Review

March 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

CENTENNIAL, Colorado – For Resolute Brewing, community is everything. The brewery just reported numbers, philanthropic impact, a greater investment in local ingredients, and an ongoing rebrand.

Here is their 2022 Year In Review.

In 2022, Resolute embarked upon a rebrand to present a more refined aesthetic. They debuted their new logo, glassware, and merchandise in the fall, and have 2023 plans to integrate the new branding into the design of their taprooms.

Resolute Brewing produced around 1000 BBL of beer in 2022 by Head Brewer Kyle Larkin and Brewers Nico Cervantes and Ethan Munoz. Its original location in Centennial is the site of brewing operations, while the Arvada Tap & Cellar location is the home of the company’s barrel aging projects. Of note in 2022 was Resolute’s shift to Denver local Leopold Bros. as their primary base malt provider.

“Leopold Bros. is producing super high quality floor malted grain,” says Larkin. “Their Pilsner malt is in many of our mainstays, and we use as much of their other malt styles as we can. I love sourcing locally and we’re grateful to have such a strong connection with our maltster.”

Larkin and the whole Resolute team were overjoyed to receive the brewery’s first Great American Beer Festival® medal for their German-Style Doppelbock category for Execrator Doppelbock. Resolute was also awarded a gold medal at the 2022 Best of Craft Beer Awards for the Doinkinbonk Porter.

Throughout the year, Resolute hosted events for and donated more than $5000 to more than 20 local philanthropic organizations including; Hog Haven Farm, Special Olympics, Project Helping, Ray of Hope Cancer foundation, Rainbow Alley and Pawsitive Restoration.

Resolute is extremely proud to provide community spaces that, beyond serving as comfortable gathering places, also give back to their communities in Centennial and Arvada. These taprooms function under the leadership of General Manager Jamie Gibbs, Arvada Taproom Manager Ashley Nikel, and 13 rockstar bartenders committed to great hospitality. Resolute has 19 team members total, including Lucas Wattles who supports Resolute’s can distribution across Colorado’s Front Range.

Resolute is excited for the year ahead, with collaborations, new beers, and more community events underway. Stay tuned on their website and social media channels for updates.

Upland Brewing Unveils First Official Beer of IU Athletics

March 16, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Upland Brewing Company, a craft brewer with brewery, brewpub and tap house locations throughout Indiana, announces the first-ever Indiana University Athletics branded beer: Hoosier Gameday Lager. This beer, cultivated based on direct feedback from IU fans, will be a refreshing 4.7 alcohol by volume (ABV) lager in a can adorned with the cream and crimson candy stripes that have become ubiquitous with the IU name. This is Upland Brewing Company’s first brew that falls into the gameday beer category.

To create the new brew, Upland Brewing Company wanted to deploy an atypical approach to creating a craft beer, so they began a formal market research project last November. Surveys were provided to anyone aged 21 and over to provide input on the beer name, preferred flavor profiles, and beer can imagery and design. Survey respondents could pick attributes they thought would be best in the new IU-branded beer. In total, the company received more than 10,000 completed surveys, all of which were analyzed and considered.

“Hoosier Gameday Lager is the result of collaboration among thousands of passionate fans,” said Eddie DeSalle, President of Upland Brewing Company. “In that way, it’s uniquely representative of the university’s athletics program as a whole. Survey results showed some common threads from fans, and we incorporated those into this beer. The majority of people wanted stripes on the can design, the word “Hoosier” in the name, a brew that tasted refreshing, and a moderate ABV. We’re excited to give all that to them.”

A portion of Hoosier Gameday Lager sales will go toward IU student scholarships.

“Indiana University Licensing and Trademarks is delighted to partner with Upland Brewing Company on the launch of Indiana Athletics branded craft beer,” said Valerie Gill, Associate Vice President for Business Partnerships at Indiana University.

Hoosier Gameday Lager will be made available as a limited edition draft at all Upland Brewing Company locations starting today. In August, it will be available to purchase anywhere Upland Brewing Company beers are sold, including in bars, grocery stores, liquor stores and more.

ABOUT UPLAND BREWING COMPANY

Founded in 1998, Upland Brewing Company produces and sells quality craft beer made in Indiana. With three breweries, six brewpub and one tap house location throughout Indiana, Upland Brewing Company is the third largest brewer in Indiana, and the producer of the top-selling India pale ale in the state, Dragonfly. March 16, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

BRANFORD, Connecticut – Caius Farm Brewery, a new craft brewery, is excited to announce their highly anticipated launch with a grand public opening starting on Friday, March 10, 2023. Local entrepreneur and accredited brewer, Caius Mergy, presents his brewery in a newly constructed ~6,500 sq ft roman basilica style barn that houses both a 10–20-barrel brewhouse and an open-style taproom. Outdoors, the facility includes a 3-season heated German-style beer garden with ~3 acres of land that fronts the Branford River and ~1 acre of wetlands with lawns for seating and outdoor games. An enjoyable place for family and friends alike to gather.

Caius Farm Brewery’s tap room and public spaces are open Thursdays 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Fridays 2 p.m. – 10 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. The brewery will be closed to the public Monday through Wednesday when manufacturing will be underway.

Caius will offer an extensive variety of beers, spanning a wide selection of tastes, both seasonal and specialty ales, while specializing in German styles extensive variety of beers. In addition, there will be a focus on mixed fermentation sour beer as well as a “huge emphasis” on barrel aging. The brewery facility will also embrace a farmhouse atmosphere for its guests and the beer styles being produced.

For the younger crowd or those seeking a non-alcoholic option, Caius also has created a unique range of homemade flavored Italian sodas, called scriccio, that are created and mixed on-site as well.

There will be a range of food options, with a regular rotation of two food trucks. In the near future, Caius also plans to make available inside handcrafted charcuterie boards in cooperation with Fromage of Old Saybrook and tailored to be paired with Caius Farm beers – it will be a must try treat.

At Caius Farm Brewery, the unique and much anticipated range of craft beers collides with both local and global historical perspectives. Mergy reveals a tapestry of cultures through the flavors of his craft. With a master’s degree from the University of Oxford in Classical Archaeology, degrees from both the Master Brewer program at the Siebel Institute in Chicago, and the Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany, and professional brewing experience in California, Mergy combines his passions, expertise, and experiences, bringing back to his home state of Connecticut. Caius Farm Brewery is set to become part of the unique heart and soul of the Connecticut shoreline and destination for beer lovers in all of New England. While the area has so much to offer, there is nowhere else quite like it, it’s unprecedented. According to Mergy, “I just want to share the styles and my passion for the industry with the local community and keep it as a small family-oriented brewery. And I also want to make sure there’s always a style for everybody. That way, it’s a very welcoming place.”

The new, state of the art brewhouse sits on a historic site, where the David Baldwin house and farm once laid. Paying homage to Branford’s long respected farming community, Mergy maximizes the brewery’s connectivity to the landscape through the regeneration of a small hop yard, edible landscaping, fruit trees, and as a home to beehives to create a unique honey – all of which Mergy plans to use as ingredients. The brewery aims to limit waste by using sustainable practices and sourcing ingredients from local Connecticut farms and small businesses. Spent grain from the brewing process will also be provided to 3B Ranch in Northford, CT. Mergy is cultivating not just the land but a community as well.

“We can’t wait to explore the future of our beer with the local community, and we will keep to our slogan of: Body, Soul, Mind, Beer.” ©

Lone Tree Brewing Hefeweizen Returns For Spring

March 16, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

LONE TREE, Colorado – Lone Tree Brewing Company Hefeweizen is now available across Colorado and Kansas for the spring season.

After a successful launch of Lone Tree’s Hefeweizen in cans in 2022, the brewery is excited to bring back this seasonal offering both in 12 oz. 6-packs and on draft. It’s a classic German-style Hefeweizen recipe that Head Brewer Dennis O’Harrow designed to mimic the unfiltered wheat beers he enjoyed while traveling in Munich. Brewed with Noble hops and wheat, and fermented with Weihenstephan yeast, Lone Tree Hefeweizen has notes of banana, spice, and clove that blend seamlessly to make it an easy sipper with only 5.4% ABV, perfect for welcoming warmer days.

“It’s exciting when a time-honored style like this Hefeweizen made with traditional ingredients is top-performing in the modern-day Colorado craft beer market,” says Lone Tree Sales and Marketing Director Dennis Stack. “Consumers are asking for bright, easy drinking, low ABV beers in 2023— and this wheat ale is the answer.”

ABOUT LONE TREE BREWING CO.

Lone Tree Brewing Company was the first brewery to open in Lone Tree, Colorado in Denver’s South Metro area in 2011, and has remained a local staple for a decade. Lone Tree creates community around a stylistically diverse lineup of flagship, seasonal, and limited release beers that are sold in cans and on draft across Colorado, and in select locations in Kansas.

Gone Trippin’ is now available nationally year-round on draft and in 6-packs and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans.

Gone Trippin’ (7% alcohol by volume (ABV)) is assertively hopped with Cascade, Centennial, Crystal, Chinook and Citra varieties. Gone Trippin’ is now flowing at SweetWater’s flagship taprooms in Atlanta and Fort Collins, Colorado. It’s also available in cans across Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia at select retailers, including Total Wine & More, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Ingles, Publix, and Lowes Food. The Virginia Beer Co. Announces Brand Refresh/Portfolio Realignment

March 10, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia— This week, The Virginia Beer Company formally announced a brand refresh that has been over a year in the making. The effort culminated with the official introduction of a new addition to its year-round lineup: Gorgeous, a 100% Citra IPA.

Gorgeous has been available in limited quantities in the past, but due to its overwhelming popularity, the Virginia Beer Co. team is excited to elevate it to the brewery’s core lineup going forward.

“We’ve been steadily introducing the market to the new look and feel of the packaging on our core beers since last spring,” said Chris Smith, co-founder of The Virginia Beer Company. “Brand refreshes take a lot of planning but have started to become a little more common in the industry. We thought timing the official announcement of the refresh around the new year-round status of Gorgeous would give our customers something to get excited about.”

Soft, citrusy Gorgeous Citra IPA (5.7%) joins three other freshly rebranded flagship beers: Elbow Patches (6.2%), Virginia Beer Co.’s award-winning smooth, roasty Oatmeal Stout – Saving Daylight (4.9%), an anytime citrusy American Wheat – and Free Verse (6.8%), the brewery’s best-selling Hazy IPA.

The new packaging represents a cleaner, more modern take for the 7-year-old brewery, whose original aesthetic skewed towards more of a retro look. The bright packaging, coupled with the fresh flagship beer and recent expansion to the entire state (including availability in large regional & statewide retailers), positions the brewery well for a big year. But ultimately The Virginia Beer Company – referred to by their founders as a force for good in the form of a brewery – wants customers to know that the brand refresh was done for them.

“We want people to really understand that when we get feedback, we listen,” said Robby Willey, co-founder of The Virginia Beer Company. “This was a collaborative effort that included feedback from everyone in our brewery’s family: our distributors, retailers, loyal customers, and the ‘VBC’ team all gave feedback on the brand refresh. We’re an incredibly community-conscious brewery, and we really treated this process like a community event. And we are really excited how this new look & feel reflects not just the liquid in the cans, but our whole brand identity these 7 years after first opening our doors & taps in 2016.”

About The Virginia Beer Company

The Virginia Beer Company is a brewery, taproom, and beer garden located in Williamsburg, VA’s Edge District. The brewery was founded by two graduates of nearby William & Mary, who shared a passion for philanthropy, community, and great beer. VBC is proud to have their beer available throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as in New York and in multiple countries overseas including Japan and France. Since opening in 2016, VBC continues to be guided by the principles shared by its core of founding team members: Beer · People · Purpose.

Dragon’s Milk Announces Packaging Refresh, New Beers, RTS Cocktail

March 10, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

HOLLAND, Michigan – Dragon’s Milk announced a full flight of upgrades to its bourbon barrel-based brand family of beer and high-proof bourbon, including new packaging and new products.

First, fans of the #1 selling American-made stout will notice a completely new look on the shelves. The signature black-and-white packaging, along with the iconic dragon, have evolved to better showcase the attributes that consumers have come to expect from the Dragon’s Milk brand family; namely: bourbon barrel-aging and potent ABV in a 4-pack bottle format.

“We’re committed to providing a premium beer experience to our fans, and our new packaging more accurately reflects that goal. The new 4-pack carriers maximize visibility and readability on shelf, and create a beautiful billboard of brands when placed side-by-side. Increasing the height of the carriers is also better for the beer, protecting it from harmful light exposure. The dragon has never looked better and is truly ready to fly!” said Dominic Bergquist, Brand Manager for the Dragon’s Milk portfolio.

Coinciding with the launch of new packaging is the release of two new beers into the Dragon’s Milk brand family: Crimson Keep and Tales of Gold. Crimson Keep is a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Red Ale, and Tales of Gold is a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Golden Ale with Milk Sugar. Both brews tout superior drinkability at a potent 11% ABV, in-line with the signature stout. These new brands expand the Dragon’s Milk family into familiar style groups ripe for innovation. Both beers will see distribution across the brand’s footprint beginning in March.

Rounding out beer updates is the annual release of the highly touted Dragon’s Milk Triple Mash. Aged for one year in bourbon barrels, Triple Mash clocks in at 17% ABV. Also featuring exciting new packaging, this beer will release in New Holland Brewing Co.’s Holland and Grand Rapids, MI brewpubs on Saturday March 18, and will receive limited distribution in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin shortly after.

Finally, the Dragon’s Milk bourbon portfolio continues to grow. Following on the success of the first stouted-bourbon, Beer Barrel Bourbon, Dragon’s Milk Ready-to-Serve Old Fashioned cocktail will premiere in a 375ml bottle. The Old Fashioned is made with Beer Barrel Bourbon, house-made bitters, orange peel oil, and their signature Simple Syrup which is crafted by reducing down the flagship Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout into a syrup and adding sugar. The syrup adds an incredibly unique and delicious savory and sweet quality to the cocktail. The Old Fashioned will be available in late April and will be sold throughout Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Kentucky in Meijer stores and local retailers.

About Dragon’s Milk

Throughout the ages, Dragon’s Milk has been a term used to describe potent ales and elixirs worthy of a celebration, a reward at the end of the journey. New Holland Brewing Co. is proud to continue that tradition today with the Dragon’s Milk family of brands. What began as a single barrel of beer in 2001 has now become a full portfolio of legendary beverages, led by Dragon’s Milk Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout, the #1 selling American-made stout.
