New Realm Brewing Company Becomes the Official Craft Beer Partner of Kennesaw State University

October 2, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

ATLANTA, GA – Just in time for the start of the fall college sports season, award-winning craft brewer New Realm Brewing Company has been named the Official Craft Beer partner of Kennesaw State University (KSU), which includes the full portfolio of the craft brewer’s products.

Both the brewer and university are based in Georgia. KSU features campuses in Kennesaw and Marietta, and New Realm welcomes guests to its flagship founding craft brewery, distillery and locally sourced scratch restaurant in Atlanta. The first collaboration as part of the local partnership is the release of OWL IN American Lager, an homage to the Kennesaw State Owls, with packaging highlighting the university’s signature black and gold color palette and the signature Owls emblem front and center.

“Crafted for refreshment, OWL IN is made with a smooth hop bill featuring Magnum, Hersbrucker and lemondrop hops. The result is a 4% ABV lager with a straw-gold color, 115 calories and 9 carbs. Available in select markets year-round, the beer will be available in 12-ounce 6-packs, 16-ounce singles and draft packages,” explained Mitch Steele, NRBC Brewmaster. A product locator can be found here.

“We’re proud of our new partnership as the Official Craft Beer of KSU,” said Jeff Chassner, Chief Sales Officer at New Realm Brewing Company. “I’m excited about every product in our portfolio, but as an alumnus of KSU, launching OWL IN has been a passion project for me. We’re thrilled to introduce this new beer during such a fun time of year for college sports fans.”

Kennesaw State University officially became a member of Conference USA in June. The evolution of the university’s sports competition at the Division I level mirrors its growth as the third-largest university in Georgia.

“Our goal has always been to create moments of happiness for our patrons and support the communities in which we live, brew, and play. We are excited to welcome the KSU community into the New Realm family,” stated Carey Falcone, CEO of New Realm Brewing Company.

Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. 25th Anniversary Celebration to Begin October 1st A Week-Month of Festivities to Celebrate 25 Years!

September 13, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

LEXINGTON, Ky., September 12, 2024— Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., the only brewery and distillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®, announces early preparations for its upcoming 25th Anniversary Celebration in October 2024. As Bourbon Heritage Month winds down at the end of September, we’re excited to keep the festivities going and extend the celebration into October for our anniversary. Join us for a month filled with special events and activities designed to continue the excitement and honor our rich history.

Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co.

October marks the anniversary month for the modern-day Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., which has been proudly and independently owned and operated by the Lyons family since 1999, when the operation was acquired.

The first era of Lexington Brewing Co. began in the 1890s and ended during Prohibition, with the brewery changing ownership several times in the decades that followed. When Pearse Lyons and his son, Mark, explored the brewery in 1999, it was still in operation but required significant improvement and modernization. Pearse, a visionary and entrepreneur, recognized its potential due to its iconic past. Fueled by a passion for brewing and distilling that runs through the Lyons family’s lineage of Irish coopers, Pearse revived Lexington Brewing Co. and restored a craft beer tradition dating back to the 1700s. Brewing resumed immediately, and by 2006, the first freshly decanted bourbon barrels were filled with Kentucky Ale®, paving the way for what is now one of the largest barrel-aged beer facilities in the world and the creators of the renowned Kentucky® Bourbon Barrel Ale. Upcycling fresh bourbon barrels to produce barrel-aged beer quickly became a hallmark of Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co.

Pearse’s vision naturally extended to distilling, given his background in fermentation, his family’s heritage, and Kentucky’s bourbon tradition. In the spring of 2008, two copper pot stills commissioned from Scotland arrived in Lexington, and distillation began that autumn. Four years later, in autumn 2012, the ribbon was cut on Town Branch Distillery, located across from the brewery. This marked the opening of the first new distillery in Lexington, Kentucky, in over 100 years and officially made it the 7th member of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Those gleaming copper pot stills now stand as a testament to timeless traditions and the bold imagination of Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. as it prepares to celebrate a milestone of 25 years.

A Week-Month of Festivities to Celebrate 25 Years

Join us in October for a weeklong celebration of Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co.’s 25th anniversary, where we’re pulling out all the stops to mark this milestone in style! From October 1st to October 5th, the Visitor Center will be the epicenter of festivities, featuring exclusive tastings, unique releases, and vibrant events that highlight our rich tradition and innovation.

Kick off the week with a series of exciting whiskey and beer releases, featuring a 5-year aged and barrel-proof beer, the oldest Kentucky Single Malt Whiskey ever bottled-in-bond, and two new whiskey releases showcasing our freshly matured wheated bourbon mash bill. Enjoy music, delicious food, and craft cocktails designed to complement these special releases throughout the week. We’ll also host lively parties, including a finish line bash for the Ragnar Bourbon Chase, complete with a DJ, food trucks, and a Kentucky Bourbon Trail tasting area. Stay tuned for additional festivities throughout October as we continue to celebrate our 25th Anniversary.

This is more than just a celebration—it’s a tribute to the passion and dedication that have defined our 25 years. We invite you to raise a glass with us, explore our special releases, and experience the spirit of Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. during this unforgettable week of festivities.

Censored Munky Launches Inaugural Beer in Partnership With White Lion Brewery

July 5, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

CHICOPEE, Massachusettes— Censored Munky Brewing Company announces the launch of its inaugural beer “Freee Speeech!!!”. Based in Chicopee, Censored Munky is in partnership with White Lion Brewing Company out of Springfield to contract brew and distribute the inaugural beer, with forthcoming plans for Censored Munky to have a brewing operation and tasting room in Chicopee, an effort that will employ 3-5 people initially.

Two of the founders have over 100 years of family roots in Chicopee. “There was no better place to start our company than in Chicopee, where there is a working-class culture, and our French/Irish family roots are from the area. This all speaks to our passion for great beer, to have fun, and to have lively conversations”, says Rick Roque, area investment banker and Co-Founder.

Freee Speeech!!! is an American IPA that has a mild hop profile with hints of tropical fruit and citrus that is smooth and clear. Censored Munky pairs its beer with design concepts to illustrate political satire in this heavily politicized climate. The company intends to launch an assortment of beers to make fun of political parties, elected officials, conspiracies, and anything else the Munky desires.

“We made Freee Speeech!!! our flagship beer and first design because of the importance of the First Amendment”, says John Phillips, Chicopee resident, Chief Munky and Co-Founder. “It was a revolutionary concept and freedom that was won in the days of old. It took power away from those who controlled information. We should always strive for truth, dialogue, and laughter”.

Tommy Reynolds, Co-Founder, states “Our t-shirts, merchandise, can designs and messaging bring a fresh perspective on the world we live in with humor, wit, sarcasm and satire. By combining visual aids, a paired unique taste, and a thirst for laughter, we aim to bring people together via a shared vision; we realized censorship sucks.”

Freee Speeech!!! will be available at liquor stores, bars, and restaurants across Massachusetts starting April 20, 2024. It will be on tap at White Lion Brewing Company in both Springfield MA and Amherst MA, and at Massie’s American Bistro in Chicopee MA beginning on April 20th.

Earth Month at Allagash: Beer Collab With Patagonia Provisions, Beach Clean-Up and More

April 11, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

PORTLAND, Maine— With their year-round commitment to reducing their environmental footprint, every day is Earth Day at B Corp-certified Allagash Brewing Company. And for the month of April, nationally known as Earth Month, the Portland-based beer brand is unveiling a full suite of initiatives and events for both the general public and their dedicated staff.

On Saturday, April 20th, Allagash is hosting an Earth Month Event at their Tasting Room (50 Industrial Way, Portland) and will release the first canned version of their collaboration beer with Patagonia Provisions, the food and beverage business of outdoor apparel company Patagonia. First brewed in June 2023, and only available on draft that first year, the Kernza Lager stars all organic ingredients and Regenerative Organic Certified Kernza perennial grain – a deeply-rooted regenerative perennial grain that has numerous environmental benefits, including stabilizing soil, increasing soil organic matter, and requires minimal tilling.

Patagonia is playing a part in Allagash’s Earth Month festivities in more ways than one: the April 20th Tasting Room event will feature:
A sidewalk sale of Allagash-branded gear
Sampling of Patagonia Provisions including responsibly-sourced tinned mussels and Organic Crackers made from regeneratively grown wheat
Patagonia Worn Wear Pop-Up offering expert quick fixes and non-sewn repairs to revive your damaged gear. Swing by to discuss gear repair, patch-up your holes, and refresh your zipper sliders. Gear must be laundered. All brands accepted.

The brewery’s ability to give back is largely due to their committed and passionate employees. That’s why Allagash is also celebrating Earth Month internally with various staff team-building sustainability-minded activities throughout April, including: a clean-up of Portland’s East End beach, a Portland Trails Clean Up at Riverton Trolley Park, not to mention an earth-friendly barbecue.

Allagash’s environmental initiatives are ongoing: in 2023 they increased their Maine-grown grain usage by 25.9% over the prior year to 1.89 million pounds. The brewery also continues to reduce their water consumption per gallon of beer, now down to 3.1 gallons of water per gallon of beer, which is half the industry average. Plus, they directed more funds in philanthropy to their community than ever before—$600,000 in 2023 alone.

“We tend to treat every month like it’s Earth Month here, but April is a great time to take stock of how we can continue to strive to do even more to give back to both the environment and our Maine community,” said Zoe Malia, Sustainability Manager, Allagash.

Finalists will be invited to the annual Crafting Dreams Beer Bash, which comes home to Boston this year, for the chance to share their best brews and personal stories with Samuel Adams representatives, media, and select public beer lovers.

“It has been an incredible journey thus far welcoming Funkytown Brewery into our Experienceship Hall of Fame. They are the epitome of what our program is all about – passionate and hard-working craft business owners with unbelievable ambition,” said Jennifer Glanville Love, Director of Partnerships & Collaborations at Boston Beer Company. “We look forward to continuing our support of their successful journey as we open up our family once again this year to identify a new brewer who is just as deserving.”

Batson River Brewing Releases Backcountry Kölsch

April 2, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

WELLS, Maine— Batson River Brewing & Distilling, an independent Maine craft brewery, announced the spring release of their Backcountry Kölsch. The seasonal 5.5% German light ale is fermented cool and then cold-conditioned creating a lager-like crispness.

Operations Manager Jon Quade feels the release timing is perfect: “As things start to warm up here in Maine, the mindset shifts to getting outdoors, walking in the woods and enjoying nature. And to us, that also means bringing a light and refreshing beer along for the ride. I think spring beers are finally getting the recognition they deserve and we’re excited to offer Backcountry Kölsch to consumers looking for that flavor profile.”

Backcountry Kölsch 4-packs and draft are available at Batson River locations and distributed throughout southern Maine by Nappi Distributors in Gotham, ME.

TailGate Brewery Taps Murfreesboro for Eighth Location

March 29, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – TailGate Brewery, a Nashville-based craft brewery with distribution across Tennessee, is bringing its imaginative craft beer and pizza to Murfreesboro. As the brewery’s eighth taproom, TailGate Brewery Murfreesboro will open this summer.

Independently owned and one of Tennessee’s largest craft breweries, TailGate Brewery’s diverse craft beer lineup includes everything from German Reinheitsgebot-inspired lagers to heavily fruited sours and IPAs. The brewery offers a fresh rotation of styles at its taprooms across Tennessee, and its core lineup of brews are available at retail across the state.

“Murfreesboro has been the top-requested future location by fans of TailGate Brewery, so we’ve been working on finding the perfect taproom here for years,” said Wesley Keegan, TailGate Brewery’s sole owner and original founder. “To everyone who’s been asking for us: we’ve been working on it! Excited to finally share our plans with craft beer fans in Murfreesboro.”

TailGate Brewery will renovate its new 5,000 sq. ft. Murfreesboro home at 210 Stones River Mall Blvd, formerly home to Coconut Bay Cafe, into an experience that will be familiar to fans of the brewery: a full food menu featuring its fan-favorite Detroit Style pies, 30 eclectic craft beers on draft, and an outdoor seating area overlooking Stones River.

“Every TailGate Brewery taproom is unique to the neighborhood it’s in, and we expect this one to evolve to what the community says it should be. We’re excited for this to be a long-term investment in Murfreesboro. But it doesn’t matter what I think, it matters what the people of Murfreesboro enjoy in a craft brewery,” Keegan said. “It’s just up to us to be great stewards to the community.”

The team behind TailGate Brewery and its flagship TailGate Orange recently voted the brewery, which is heavily involved in the community and supports a number of rotating nonprofits every year, a 2023 Top Workplace. As TailGate Brewery expands, it maintains its commitment to its growing team, who enjoy 100% company-sponsored health benefits, industry-best wages, and a host of other benefits. According to Reginald Small, director of taproom operations, TailGate Brewery expects to welcome 30 team members with the opening of the Murfreesboro taproom.

“You can tell people you appreciate them as much as you want, but we know that businesses can best show that appreciation by paying people great,” said Keegan. “It’s important that our guests know they’re supporting great wages, and a great workplace, with every TailGate beer they enjoy anywhere in Tennessee.”

While construction continues on the Murfreesboro location, fans can experience TailGate at seven other taprooms across Tennessee: Headquarters, Music Row, East Nashville, Germantown, South Nashville, Hendersonville and Chattanooga, as well as many bars, restaurants and retailers across the state.

“We always say the best place to enjoy a TailGate beer is wherever you find TailGate beer,” Keegan adds. “Whether that’s a taproom, your local bar or restaurant, or package store – wherever you drink your TailGate beer, thank you for supporting us!”
