–  Brewer’s Notes: “When I copied the famous Even More Jesus, I had to ask myself as an artist, why am I doing this? I didn’t honestly know. It was just an instinct about beer as pure form… in a sense this stout is like a metaphor for freedom – the sum of all the beauty that surrounds me and my perfect contemporary existence.”

Other Perfect Beers to Gift on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about sharing love, and what better way to do that than with a thoughtfully chosen beer? Whether your partner is a craft beer enthusiast or just enjoys a good brew, selecting the right beer can make the day extra special. From romantic stouts to fruity sours, here’s a guide to the best types of beers to gift on Valentine’s Day, inspired by the spirit of the 1996 World Beer Cup’s celebration of diverse brewing styles.

Chocolate Stouts for Romance
Nothing says Valentine’s Day like chocolate, and chocolate stouts deliver that rich, indulgent flavor in liquid form. These dark, velvety beers often have notes of cocoa, coffee, and roasted malt, making them perfect for sipping by candlelight. Look for a Chocolate Stout or an Imperial Stout with cacao nibs, like Founders Breakfast Stout or Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout. Their dessert-like qualities pair beautifully with a box of chocolates or a romantic dinner, evoking the robust stouts that shone at the 1996 World Beer Cup.

Why it works: The deep, complex flavors mirror the depth of your feelings, and the slightly sweet finish is perfect for sharing.

Fruity Sours for a Playful Vibe
If your Valentine loves vibrant, tangy flavors, a fruity sour beer is a great choice. These beers, often brewed with berries, cherries, or passionfruit, have a tart, refreshing profile that’s both fun and flirtatious. Try a Kriek Lambic (cherry sour) like Lindemans Kriek or a modern Gose with raspberry, such as Anderson Valley’s Briney Melon Gose. The pinkish-red hues of berry-infused sours scream Valentine’s Day, and their lively acidity pairs well with light desserts like fruit tarts.

Why it works: Sours are bold and exciting, just like new love, and their colorful appearance adds a festive touch.

Rosé-Inspired Beers for Elegance
For a sophisticated yet trendy option, consider a rosé-inspired beer. These brews blend the crispness of beer with the delicate fruit and floral notes of rosé wine, making them a romantic choice. Look for beers like Dogfish Head’s Romantic Chemistry, a fruit-infused IPA with raspberries and peaches, or a Bière Brut aged in wine barrels for a champagne-like effervescence. These beers are perfect for toasting to your relationship, especially if your partner loves wine but you want to keep it in the beer realm.

Why it works: The elegance of rosé beers elevates the occasion, and their hybrid nature appeals to both beer and wine lovers.

Belgian Dubbels for Timeless Love
Belgian Dubbels are a classic choice for a Valentine’s Day gift, with their rich, malty sweetness and hints of dark fruit, caramel, and spice. Beers like Westmalle Dubbel or Chimay Red have a warm, comforting profile that’s ideal for cozying up with your loved one. These beers, rooted in centuries-old brewing traditions, echo the global craft excellence celebrated at the 1996 World Beer Cup. Pair them with a cheese board or chocolate truffles for a luxurious experience.

Why it works: The smooth, balanced flavors of a Dubbel symbolize a mature, enduring relationship, perfect for long-term partners.

Hoppy IPAs with a Twist for Adventurous Couples
If your Valentine craves bold, hoppy beers, surprise them with an IPA that has a romantic twist. Look for Hazy IPAs or Fruit-Infused IPAs with tropical notes like mango, peach, or guava, such as Sierra Nevada’s Hazy Little Thing or a local brewery’s seasonal offering. The hoppy bitterness paired with juicy fruitiness reflects the balance of passion and playfulness in a relationship. The 1996 World Beer Cup saw hoppy ales rise in popularity, and this style remains a craft beer favorite.
