Ecliptic Brewing, Remaining a Front Runner in the Ever Changing Portland Craft Brewing Industry by Austin Foster
As the craft brewing industry continues to explode in Portland, Oregon, Ecliptic Brewing remains a strong force in the movement. Founded by brewing legend John Harris in 2013, Ecliptic combines his two loves: craft beer and astronomy. “Space is so creative and different, and I wanted to push the limits in the brew house,” said Harris. Ecliptic has continued to be a brewery worth talking about in the never-ending surge of craft breweries springing up in Portland.
Entering the brewery you are greeted with a gigantic mural of a solar system on a two-story wall in the bar. They have done a great job making the brewery a family friendly restaurant on one side and a great spot for adults on the bar side.
John believes the brewery is thriving, not only because of their great brews, but because they offer stellar food to pair with their beers, thanks to Executive Chef Michael Molitor. Michael rotates the menu according to the old world calendar every six weeks. Ecliptic continues to raise the bar on pub food throughout Portland.
This year they are hitting the ground running with a pretty aggressive special release line up of beers, seasonals, Cosmic Collaborations, as well as the introduction of cans. You’ll have to stop in and check out Quasar Pale Ale, a new seasonal that has just been released in cans in time for summer. Quasar Pale Ale is low in alcohol and not overly bitter so you can throw back a few while taking in the sweet Pacific Northwest sunshine. Make sure to drop in to Ecliptic Brewing, they are definitely out of this world.
