Silver City Brewery Announces Fresh Brand, Packaging, and Beers

February 7, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

BREMERTON, WASHINGTON — Silver City Brewery is proud to present a dynamic rebrand of its classic lineup and new offerings for 2024. As a mainstay in Western Washington since 1996, Silver City has become synonymous with independent, high-quality craft beer. Our new brand design reflects our enduring values: Quality, Craft, and Community. Brewed in the Northwest.

Working with craft centric design agency Blindtiger Design, Silver City has refreshed the full brand and packaging lineup to better match what’s inside the can – Choice beer brewed in the Northwest. Every beer in the 2024 Silver City lineup has a new look, with visuals that pay tribute to their legacy and give fans new artwork to enjoy as they sip. Tropic Haze IPA was updated with a laid-back illustration of its iconic palm tree, Ridgetop Red’s packaging now features a mountaintop fire-lookout, and Ride the Spiral Double IPA sports an abstract nod to the enigmatic and sometimes surreal wilderness of the Pacific Northwest.

There are also exciting new additions to the roster – available on draft now, with package hitting shelves in January 2024:

Range West IPA: A four-season beer, Range West is an approachable, light-bodied West coast style IPA. Moderate bitterness nods to the challenges of blazing new trails, balanced by aromas of citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and pine. Range West IPA was recently awarded Platinum in the Sip Magazine 2023 “Best of The Northwest Beer Awards”

• Silver City Pils: This crisp, cold Pilsner invites you to savor the simple pleasures of life. Grainy aromatics, subtle hints of water cracker and a touch of honey. Like old friends sharing stories by the fire, the sweetness and bitterness balance perfectly. Silver City Pils was awarded a Silver Medal in the recent Washington Beer Awards.
• A rotating 16oz IPA Series featuring different IPA styles and techniques with each release, starting with a Phantasm infused IPA and a Cold IPA in early 2024.
• A rotating 16oz Lager Series including new recipes and returning favorites, kicking off with a Helles and a
Vienna Style Lager in early 2024.
• Silver City Variety 12-Pack: Featuring new beers Silver City Pils and Range West IPA, along with Tropic Haze
IPA, and Ridgetop Red Ale for a balanced mix.
As the new look rolls out in the Bremerton taproom, and out across the Pacific Northwest, keep an eye out for
new releases, campaigns supporting Northwest non-profits, and limited releases of new Silver City gear.

Reuben’s Brews Set to Open New Taproom on Fremont Ave

August 29, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

SEATTLE, Washington— Reuben’s Brews is thrilled to announce that it’s introducing a new taproom location at 4401 Fremont Ave N. Work to update the space will begin immediately, and an opening date will be announced in the weeks ahead. When that time comes, beer lovers, locals, and visitors alike are invited to join in the celebration, which will include never-before-seen merch, a food special, and an exclusive beer release.

Drawing on more than a decade of experience in Ballard, the company plans to bring its same dedication to hospitality to the new space. The Reuben’s Brews – Fremont Ave Taproom aims to create a welcoming environment where friends and families can gather to enjoy exceptional craft beers, unique community events, and tasty casual fare by Reuben’s Eats. Filled with natural light and furnished with comfortable built-in benches, this inviting space is a place to relax with a close companion and cold pint.

“We are beyond excited to introduce our new neighbors to the Reuben’s experience,” says cofounder Adam Robbings. “And we’re passionate about using Fremont Avenue as another place to build community and share our love of great beer—and great food!”

The new taproom will feature more than a dozen taps, including a curated selection of the brewery’s everyday favorites and latest limited releases. In addition, Reuben’s Eats will serve an updated variety of delicious menu options. Open daily from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., the Fremont Ave Taproom will offer cozy, cafe-style indoor seating, an outdoor patio area, a to-go store, and parking on site. It’s also conveniently located near the 5, 16, 44, and E Seattle Transit bus lines.

“Fremont was one of the first neighborhoods we lived in after moving to Seattle, and it still holds a special place in our hearts,” says Grace Robbings, co-founder and head of the Reuben’s Brews Foundation. “Adam and I lived right down the street from this charming space for over 14 years, so when the chance came to expand Reuben’s Brews to this address, it felt like it was meant to be. And in the same way that we’ve forged connections with Ballard businesses and nonprofits, we look forward to building relationships with new community partners in Fremont.”

Since launching in 2012, Reuben’s Brews has gained a reputation for crafting unique brews that reflect a spirit of both tradition and innovation. At the same time, the brewery has worked hard to establish itself as a warm, welcoming environment for all. The opening of the new taproom at 4401 Fremont Ave N is another significant step in its journey to provide memorable experiences that encourage fans new and familiar to explore the world of beer.

About Reuben’s Brews

Adam and Grace Robbings opened Reuben’s Brews in 2012, after an award-winning homebrewing career, naming it after their first child, Reuben. At their family brewery they brew from the glass backwards: designing each beer with intention, unbound by constraints. They know that making that extra effort is worth it. From everyday favorites to innovative new releases, they want to share a love of discovery. Reuben’s Brews. Beer Unbound.

Bavarian IPA is New Name for Chuckanut New World Ale

April 13, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

BURLINGTON, Washington – Once Chuckanut Brewery heard about the growing trend in the German craft brewing scene to use the name Bavarian IPA (BIPA) there was a realization that Chuckanut New World Hop Ale was just that. Using new world hops and malts from the Bavaria region in Germany Chuckanut’s New World has been renamed as Chuckanut Bavarian IPA (or BPA for short). The new German varietals, Calista and Ariana, hops are blended with Weyermann Pilsner & Barke Munich Malts to create an easy-drinking, aromatic IPA style of ale. Most traditional IPA styles were started in England and the USA but this new style comes out of Germany!

Bavarian IPA is a more subtle IPA than other IPA’s due to the use of German hops and the terroir that it imparts on the IPA style. The bitterness level is slight but the hops impart a citrusy flavor and aroma. BIPA is great with slow-roasted pork, bratwurst, veal or a fresh salad! Blonde in color, with a sessionable 5.1% ABV, Bavarian IPA is a great any-time of-day beer. Find it now at both Chuckanut locations and selected accounts in the NW on tap or in cans.

Chuckanut Brewery brews award winning Lagers and Ales and has won Large Brewery of the Year at WA BeerAwards 2017, 2019 and 2021 and Small Brewery at the GABF 2011. The production facility and Tap Room is in Skagit Valley at 11937 Higgins Airport Way, Burlington, WA. Chuckanut Brewery’s P. Nut Beer Hall is at 920 SE Caruthers St, Portland. Both locations welcome guests of all ages and have indoor and outdoor seating!

Backwoods Brewing to Open 19-Acre Resort Property Party Acres

March 9, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

CARSON, Washington— Backwoods Brewing releases Party Acres Hazy IPA ahead of opening their 19-acre resort property Party Acres, a playground for lovers of the Gorge.

“We bought the property in 2020,” says owner and CEO Steve Waters, “and have been drawing multiple designs in the sandbox ever since.” They finally landed on a site plan, with Phase 1 being cabins hidden away in the woods in Carson, Washington. The cabins will open this spring, and Phase 2 of Party Acres will be bringing Backwoods’ existing pub and brewery operations on site as well.

Alongside these plans, Backwoods has other fun ideas in the works with an estimated time frame to be decided, including a disc golf course, zip line and potentially an amphitheater for live entertainment.

“We’ve got plans in motion, and are leaving space to dream up exciting ideas for the property and our cozy cabins. With all the activities in the area we are excited to give people more reasons to love coming to play and stay in the Columbia River Gorge.” says owner Debbie Waters.

Party Acres, the beer, is a Hazy IPA made with lush, tropical hops, and is light enough to be enjoyed on any outdoor adventure. Backwoods has been playing with the recipe on draft for over a year, and is finally ready to take it to prime time in 12 ounce cans. It will take their hazy slot, previously occupied by Hazy in the Gorge.

“When it came time to name the beer, we thought about it for 5 seconds before thinking, ‘Why don’t we name it after the property?’” said Tom Waters, COO and owner of Backwoods, “Party Acres has been a dream of my dad’s (fellow owner Jim Waters) since before I was born.”

“When I was a kid, my buddies and I always wanted a place we could go to get away,” says Jim.

The fabled earthly paradise would be called Party Acres. “It’s pretty exciting to be making that dream a reality. But what we’re doing here is going to be a little bit more classy than what me and my buddies had in mind back then.” Born from the vision of a collective place for family and friends to celebrate the good times, Party Acres will be a resort with something for everyone.

“And in the spirit of Backwoods, we’re aiming for the blend we always try to strike of woodsy and adventurous, while also laid-back and comfortable,” says Steve Waters. “We want to be the place you think of when you want to get away.”

Look for the Party Acres beer in stores and on tap at the Backwoods pubs right now – and plan to book a night or two at the Party Acres cabins beginning in May 2023.

About Backwoods Brewing Company

Backwoods Brewing is located in the heart of the Columbia Gorge, in the small town of Carson, WA. It was founded by the Waters family in 2012, as a single-barrel brewpub. They now operate on a 20-barrel system in their Stevenson production facility, kegging, canning and bottling beer for the WA, OR, and ID markets. They
have also operated a thriving satellite pub in Portland’s Pearl District since July of 2018. Their focus is on balanced beers and comfortable pub settings.
