Second Line Brewing New Orleans Hires Shalanda Jackson as Lead Brewer

July 3, 2026 by Dow Scoggins

Second Line Brewing

NEW ORLEANS, LA (June 17, 2026) — Second Line Brewing, the beloved Mid-City craft brewery and taproom known for its community focus and bold New Orleans-inspired beers, is excited to announce the hiring of Shalanda Jackson as its new Lead Brewer, effective July 1, 2026.

Jackson brings extensive brewing experience and a strong hospitality mindset to the role. She most recently brewed a diverse range of beers, seltzers, and THC beverages at Urban South Brewery in New Orleans, where she also supported quality lab testing and represented the brewery at festivals and events. Her background includes time as an assistant brewer at Village Brewing Company in New Jersey, where she managed raw materials, cellar operations, and quality control. Jackson holds a Brewing Science Certification from St. Joseph’s University and completed the World Brewing Academy’s Concise Course in Brewing Technology through the Siebel Institute.

A Passionate Advocate for Craft Beer and Community

Beyond her technical expertise, Jackson is a prominent voice in the craft beer industry. She helped curate Barrels on the Bayou, Louisiana’s first Black beer festival, and has served as a panelist at the Craft Professional Brewers Conference and upcoming ESSENCE Festival “Let’s Toast” panel. She is a recipient of the Michael James Jackson Foundation brewing scholarship and an active member of the Pink Boots Society.

In her new position at Second Line Brewing, Jackson will work closely with Head Brewer Gar Hatcher on day-to-day brewhouse operations while contributing to the brewery’s growing lineup of creative beers. She will also gain valuable business-side experience under the mentorship of Managing Partner Karen Logan.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Shalanda to the Second Line family,” said Hatcher. “Her brewing experience, passion for the craft, and commitment to community make her a fantastic addition to our team.”

Logan added, “Shalanda brings energy, talent, and a real commitment to growth. We’re excited to invest in her development as both a brewer and a future leader.”
This strategic hire reinforces Second Line Brewing’s dedication to building a talented team and delivering exceptional beer and hospitality to the New Orleans community.
