Bent Water Brewing Announces New 12 Packs of Three Flagship Beers

February 13, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

LYNN, Massachusetts— Bent Water Brewing Company, the award-winning craft brewery from Lynn, Massachusetts, announced the release of brand new 12 packs of three of their best-selling flagship beers. With a big football weekend on the horizon, the timing for many is ideal.

“The last game of the football season is right around the corner, and for most people that means a big party with friends, family, food – and beer,” commented Drew Yeager, Head Brewer and COO of Bent Water Brewing. “So timing-wise this release couldn’t be better, but ultimately this is the culmination of something we’ve discussed and planned for over two years. It’s awesome to see it come to fruition.”

Twelve packs of 12 oz. cans of Thunder Funk IPA, Premium Lager, and the most recent entry to the Bent Water flagship portfolio, The Shaka West Coast Style Pale Ale, have already started appearing on shelves and store floors and will continue to pop up throughout the Greater Boston/North Shore area of Massachusetts in the coming weeks.

While no plans currently exist to extend the 12 pack presence deeper into one of the brewery’s eight additional distribution territories, the decision is not off the table.

“We’ve seen consumers all over the country gravitate towards buying their favorites in larger quantities and based on the occasion, looking for 12 oz. cans, as well,” continued Yeager. “It’s still fairly rare in the craft beer market for a brewery with our production capacity to balance limited offerings with something at this scale, but we always try to stay ahead of the curve.”

Bent Water Brewing Company Releases Primordial Haze, a Tropical IPA With Phantasm Powder

October 25, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

LYNN, Massachusetts— Bent Water Brewing Company, the award-winning craft brewery from Lynn, Massachusetts, announced the release of Primordial Haze, a hazy tropical IPA brewed with Phantasm Powder and featuring a trio of the brewery’s iconic gorillas on the label.

Primordial Haze was first released in a limited capacity last fall. Based on consumer response, the brewery decided to increase the barrelage in 2023. According to Aaron Reames, co-founder and president of Bent Water Brewing, Primordial Haze is a great example of the brewery’s ongoing commitment to innovation and execution of the highest quality beers.

“Phantasm Powder is still relatively new to many breweries; we were actually one of the first to use it on the East Coast when we brewed Primordial last year,” said Reames. “Phantasm Powder is an extraction made from Marlborough New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc grape skins. When added correctly to the fermentation process, it can really help unlock strong tropical fruit aromas. I’ve been making and enjoying beers for decades – Primordial Haze might have the biggest nose of any beer I’ve ever tasted!”

In addition to the liquid, Reames and his team agree that the label, created by co-founder and creative director Michael Shaugnessy, is among the brewery’s most dynamic.

“If you know anything about Bent Water Brewing, you’ve probably noticed we have a thing for gorillas,” joked Shaugnessy, whose extensive experience includes a prior role as art director at Hill Holiday. “But the gorillas on our labels actually tell a pretty good story and are completely intentional. Our first Double IPA, Double Thunder Funk, made me think of two gorillas colliding head-on, which became the inspiration for that label. With the use of Phantasm Powder and a slew of hops in Primordial Haze, I thought about a mad scientist’s experiment that wound up producing a third gorilla – and that’s how it showed up on the label.”

The brewery’s gorilla-craze extends beyond the visual branding on beer cans. For the past year, two costumed gorillas – affectionately referred to by the team as Thunder and Funk – have been spotted everywhere from the brewery taproom to ski slopes in New Hampshire and, most recently, to the crowded, Halloween-festive streets and taverns of Salem, Massachusetts.

Primordial Haze will be available exclusively in the Bent Water taproom on draught and to go starting on Friday, October 20th. It will be rolled out into select distribution regions by the end of the month.

Bent Water Brewing Releases Common Hope for Parkinson’s Awareness Month

April 11, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

LYNN, Massachusetts— Bent Water Brewing Company, the award-winning brewery from Lynn, Massachusetts, this week will release Common Hope, a dry-hopped pilsner created to raise funds and awareness for research dedicated to ending Parkinson’s Disease.

The initiative, first launched in 2022 by Bent Water, was conceived as a nationwide collaboration that drew breweries from all over the country to participate, many of them with personal stories about Parkinson’s.

“Common Hope is incredibly important to us,” explained Aaron Reames, Co-founder and President, Bent Water Brewing. “Parkinson’s has affected multiple family members and friends of the brewery, including some people I’m very close with. Several of us have always spent our own time and money to help aid Parkinson’s awareness and research, but Common Hope has become a way for us to take a bigger, more formalized, step towards fighting this disease.”

This is the second year that Bent Water has committed to brewing Common Hope and donating a portion of proceeds from the sale of the beer to benefit Team Fox, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) grassroots fundraising community. It is a partnership between like-minded organizations that both sides are proud to continue.

“Our community of Team Fox supporters continuously inspire us with the many ways they creatively aid in Parkinson’s research,” said Maci Hanson, Associate Director of Team Fox at MJFF. “Today we’re getting closer than ever before to better treatments and cures that people and families urgently need. None of this is possible without the active support of our community, including our friends at Bent Water Brewing who share our common goal and hope for a world without Parkinson’s disease.”

Although Common Hope is a joint effort led by Bent Water Brewing and Team Fox, several of the breweries that participated in last year’s collaboration have already indicated that they will be brewing the beer again in 2023, increasing the amount of good that the beer will be able to do.
