Yazoo Brewing Brings Back Its Hop Project Series, With a Twist

April 17, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – To celebrate its 20th year of brewing in Nashville, Yazoo Brewing is bringing back a crowd favorite, its ever-evolving Hop Project series of IPAs, but with a new twist. The “Impy Hop Project” series will again focus on new trends and innovations in the world of hops, but at a higher abv of 7 %, and only on draft and in large-format 19.2 oz “stovepipe” cans.

“We ended our original Hop Project series when we decided we had found the perfect blend of hops, retiring it after eighty-six different variations over ten years”, said Linus Hall, co-owner of Yazoo Brewing. “But the world of hops has continued to evolve, with new varieties from all over the world – not only Oregon and Washington in the U.S., or Germany, or England, but places as far-flung as Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Plus, new developments in yeast selections can bring amazing new flavors from traditional hops. We had so many new ideas that we decided to bring back the Hop Project series.”

But why in the 19.2 oz “stovepipe” cans? “We were getting a lot of interest in a locally-brewed, higher-abv IPA in 19.2 oz cans from our retail partners, who are seeing a growing demand for single-serve cans”, said Linus. “For now, that’s the package size we are going with. It’s a great package to pick up and share with a friend or two, without having to commit to buying a whole six-pack.”

Impy Hop Project, as Yazoo is calling the new series, will soon be available everywhere Yazoo is sold, but is initially rolling out in middle Tennessee area Kroger’s. Each batch will be a unique beer, with a QR code on the label leading to a description of the special blend of hops, or the novel process or ingredients that went into the creation.

Tennessee Brew Works is Coming to Memphis

March 1, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – On the eve of their 10-year anniversary, micro-brewery Tennessee Brew Works has announced distribution of their beers throughout Memphis, Tennessee.

Tennessee Brew Works will be featuring their lineup of Tennessee-inspired beers including the popular Hippies & Cowboys IPA, State Park Blonde ale that is brewed in collaboration with the Tennessee State Parks, River Drifter Hazy IPA, Urban Hiker Tennessee Lager, Southern Wit Belgian White, and more.

The brewery has partnered with Eagle Distributing of Memphis for distribution of their craft beers. Releases will begin the week of February 20, 2023, and be available at area bars, restaurants, grocery, and convenience stores over the coming weeks.

Tennessee Brew Works is an award-winning brewery that more recently won a coveted Great American Beer Festival competition medal for the Farmer’s Beat farmhouse ale, a collaboration between the brewery and Delvin Farms, the largest Community Support Agriculture (“CSA”) farm in the state.

They make considerable efforts to be good stewards of the land and community by sourcing raw materials from local Tennessee farmers including grains used in some of their top selling beers. They introduced the Tennessee Grain Initiative, with ambitions of establishing barley as a new cash crop for the state. They officially created the state’s first All-Tennessee grain beers in 2018, partnering with Batey Farms (Murfreesboro, TN), the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and Tennessee State Parks. The all-Tennessee grain State Park Blonde ale is notably the official beer of the Tennessee State Parks and benefits the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy for the preservation of the state’s 57 State Parks. They have since partnered with Willis Farms (Hillsboro, TN) as a major grain supplier.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to share our Tennessee borne creations with Memphis,” said Christian Spears, founder and president of Tennessee Brew Works. “We look forward to growing our relationship with the community and enjoying some beers together along the way.”

About Tennessee Brew Works

Tennessee Brew Works is an independently owned and operated craft brewery that opened in 2013 with a mission to create high quality craft beer that pays homage to the land, traditions, and culture of Tennessee.

Tennessee Brew Works proudly introduced the state’s first All-Tennessee grain beers in 2018 with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. Our all-Tennessee grain State Park Blonde Ale is the official beer of the Tennessee State Parks and benefits the TSP Conservancy for the preservation of the state’s 57 State Parks.

We brew beers with integrity, using only quality natural ingredients and source them from local farms whenever possible. We cater to those that appreciate the difference. Tennessee Brew Works is owned and operated by folks in Tennessee. Our motto: “We work hard to create high quality craft beer that makes Tennessee proud. Our culture places importance on family, friends, and community, and we hope you’ll be a part of it.”

Tennessee Brew Works Releases Their Wildwood Flower Seasonal Beer

February 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Tennessee Brew Works, a Nashville-based craft brewery, is thrilled to announce the release of its highly regarded Belgian-style Honey Blonde seasonal beer, Wildwood Flower®. This annual Tennessee Brew Works offering is a classic Belgian-style blonde, brewed with locally sourced barley and honey.

Wildwood Flower, ABV 6.8%, IBU 22. The Belgian Abbey yeast provides spicy and complex aromatics. Tennessee Brew Works commingled this creation with a delicious blend of locally sourced wildflower and sourwood honey from their friends at Strange Honey Farms in Del Rio, Tennessee. The farm’s naturally managed mountain beehives are located along the French Broad River in the foothills of Tennessee’s Cherokee National Forest and brings a palatable sophistication to the Wildwood Flower. The local malted barley from Willis Farms in Hillsboro, Tennessee adds unique malt sweetness and compliments the other flavors and aromatics of the beer. Willis Farms is a multigenerational family owned and operated farm in southern-middle Tennessee, with a focus on using regenerative and sustainable methods on their land.

“The Wildwood Flower is proudly brewed using locally sourced honey and grains, providing a proper Tennessee touch,” according to Tennessee Brew Works’ Head Brewer Matt Simpson, “This beer pairs well with smoky BBQ, pork, fish, poultry, and cheeses. The Wildwood Flower is one of the best food friendly beers in the market.”

Many of the Tennessee Brew Works beer labels feature the faces of real people who hold a special place with the organization. Wildwood Flower ale showcases one of Tennessee Brew Works’ original employees, Danielle Daniel. A native Tennessean, her entrepreneurial tenacity and dedication to the community helped develop the foundation for the successes Tennessee Brew Works enjoys today.

Wildwood Flower Blonde ale will initially be available Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Tennessee Brew Works Taproom, 809 Ewing Ave, Nashville, TN. Thereafter, it will be available at limited restaurants, bars, and grocery stores throughout middle and east Tennessee, including the Greater Nashville, Clarksville, Knoxville, Cookeville, Tullahoma, Chattanooga, and Tri-Cities areas. The beer will be available in draft and 12oz can 6-packs and cases.

WISEACRE Brewing Expands Distribution to Arizona

January 10, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – WISEACRE Brewing Company announces its plans to launch statewide distribution in Arizona beginning on January 9, 2023. Thanks to a partnership with Scout Distribution, three of the Memphis-based breweries’ year-round beers – Ananda IPA, Gotta Get Up to Get Down Coffee Milk Stout, and the Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal-winning Tiny Bomb Pilsner – will be available, along with Seasonal and Specialty Releases, at Arizona retailers like Sprouts Farmers Market, Total Wine and Whole Foods, among others.

Tiny Bomb has grown to become the #4 Craft Pilsner in the country, and Davin Bartosch, WISEACRE brewmaster and co-founder, anticipates that it will be a huge hit in the Grand Canyon State.

“My brother Kellan and I have spent a lot of time camping, hiking, and generally taking in the natural beauty of Arizona, and we think our refreshing Tiny Bomb is going to pair perfectly with the desert air,” Davin said. “Tiny Bomb marries Memphis’ near-perfect water – which has been called “the sweetest in the country” – with German pilsner malt and local wildflower honey. It has a super clean finish, ideal for a day spent hiking the North Rim or hitting the links in Scottsdale…or riding on one of the limited-edition WISEACRE bikes we made with Phoenix-based State Bicycle Co.”

“WISEACRE has a lot to offer Arizonans beer-wise, but leaning heavily into Tiny Bomb and its wide appeal is an obvious strategy for us as we enter the market,” said Kellan Bartosch, WISEACRE co-founder. “Tiny Bomb has seen 57% growth across WISEACRE’s footprint since 2021, and we anticipate those numbers will be even stronger in 2023 as demand for easy-drinking, lower ABV craft beers soars.”

Tiny Bomb and WISEACRE’s rapid growth has been fueled in part by the state-of-the-art production facility WISEACRE built in Downtown Memphis in 2020. Not only did the new facility quintuple the brewery’s previous capacity, but it also led to the development of new beers and the creation of new packaging options, which include 12oz, 16oz, and 19.2oz cans coming in 6-packs, 4-packs, 12-packs, Variety Packs, and single-serve. WISEACRE’s new facility ensures that WISEACRE is well-positioned to adapt to the fast-changing landscape of craft beer with those points, but also because the packaging equipment greatly increases shelf life compared to competition.

WISEACRE is currently sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington, D.C., so the expansion to Arizona means that WISEACRE fans in a total of 18 states and the District of Columbia will be able to buy their WISEACRE favorites closer to home.

WISEACRE will kick-off its Arizona launch with events throughout the week. Details for those events are as follows:

Monday, January 9: 6-8pm at Trevors (7340 E McDowell Rd, Scottsdale)
Tuesday, January 10:
5-6pm at Wayward Taphouse (1028 Grand Ave, Phoenix)
5-7pm at Vanilla Gorilla (14202 N Scottsdale Rd #165, Scottsdale)
5-7pm at Rift (431 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale)
4-6pm at Hoppy Vine (12125 N Oracle Rd, Oro Valley)

Wednesday, January 11:
5:30-7:30pm at Tipsy Cactus (2722 S Alma School Rd #1, Mesa)
5-6pm at The Whining Pig Downtown PHX (201 E Washington Street #104, Phoenix)
5-6pm at Raven Cafe (142 N Cortez St, Prescott)
5-6pm at Tap and Bottle (403 N 6th Ave, Tucson)

Thursday, January 12: 5-7pm at The Whining Pig Desert Ridge (21001 North Tatum Blvd, 1405 #46, Phoenix)

ABOUT WISEACRE

WISEACRE Brewing Company opened in Memphis, Tennessee in 2013 after brothers and Memphis natives Davin and Kellan Bartosch gained experience working in the brewing industry around the country and even overseas including Davin’s brewing studies at Doeman’s Academy in Germany. Since then, WISEACRE has grown to have two brewery and taproom locations, more than 60 employees and distribution in seventeen states, and has made more 170 beers ranging from German lagers, to hoppy American styles, complex and boozy Belgian beers, and barrel aging beers to boot.
