Anchor Brewing Releases San Pancho Mexican Style Lager this Spring

April 11, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

SAN FRANCISCO, California— San Francisco’s trailblazing Anchor Brewing Co. continues its spirit of innovation with San Pancho, a craft Mexican Style Lager with Lime rolling out nationwide this spring. The super-refreshing brew is a celebration of the rich mural culture and arts tradition in the Bay Area. Bursting with zesty citrus, sweet corn, and light maltiness, San Pancho is crisp and approachable, ideal for easy drinking on sun-filled afternoons.

San Pancho takes inspiration from the Mission District, one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Francisco, and a notable center of the city’s Chicano community, long recognized for its bold murals, street art, revered taquerias, and rich nightlife. Anchor’s brew team crafted the 4.9% lager to capture that sense of place. San Pancho is brewed with lime, pale and flaked corn malts, and Saaz hops for its well-balanced flavor profile and aroma.

“Anchor Brewing Co. has been at the forefront of craft lagers. We were drawn to the idea of a fresh and bright lager that’s distinctively San Franciscan and captures all the flavor and character you find in Mexican Style Lagers,” says brewmaster Dane Volek. “The city’s Mission District pulses with energy and we aspired to capture that verve through San Pancho, a beer that is vibrant, chill and easy-to-love. Just like San Francisco.”

That vibrancy is also highlighted in San Pancho’s bold packaging. The artwork is inspired by the aesthetic and traditions of murals and paintings found throughout the Mission, and by historic works from renowned mural artists like Diego Rivera who created multiple pieces in San Francisco. San Pancho’s bold graphic illustrations laud the historic iconography of Anchor’s hometown. With roots dating back to the Gold Rush, Anchor continues to be a San Francisco stalwart that stands the test of time.

San Pancho Mexican Style Lager with Lime joins Anchor’s year-round portfolio of beers including classics like Anchor Steam Beer, California Lager, Anchor Porter, Crisp Pilsner, Tropical Hazy IPA and last year’s West Coast IPA. With the nationwide rollout this spring, fans can find San Pancho in Anchor Best Coast variety packs, and in six-packs and on draft throughout California. San Francisco locals can also experience the new brew on tap at Anchor Public Taps in Potrero Hill.

About Anchor Brewing Company

Established in San Francisco in 1896, Anchor Brewing Company is America’s first craft brewery, a trailblazer and industry leader that has persevered through earthquakes, fires, and Prohibition. In 1965, Anchor’s new owner Fritz Maytag revived the brewery for a new era, charting a course that was foundational in the craft beer movement. During this time, Anchor reinvented its now classic Steam Beer, introduced the first American Pale Ale, and pioneered new brewing practices—such as dry-hopping—that are still used industry-wide today. As a proudly unionized brewery, Anchor’s dynamic portfolio of beers includes complex ales, refreshing IPAs, and iconic classics such as Anchor Steam®, Liberty Ale, Anchor Porter, California Lager, and Christmas Ale. As always, Anchor Brewing remains committed to innovation while hand-crafting venerable beers that stand the test of time. Locals and Bay Area visitors can experience Anchor Brewing in-person at their iconic brewery and Public Taps taproom in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood.

Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers Unveils Renovated Taproom Following Addition of “Tradition Meets Tech” Pilot System

March 22, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

FRAMINGHAM, Massachusetts – Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers unveils a renovated taproom laser focused on the beer experience to complement an exciting lager program from their new, “Tradition Meets Tech” pilot system.

Jack’s Abby has operated their brewery and beer hall at the Clinton Street location in Framingham since 2015, and this is the first major renovation to the beer hall space since moving in. The previous T-Shaped Bar with dual-sided tap system has been replaced with a streamlined linear bar flanking a new copper draft system. The vacated area now features a much more flexible gathering area for guests to come and enjoy a fresh lager.

“After nearly 8 years in this space, we’ve learned a lot about what our guests are looking for and our hall needed some updates to deliver that experience. After completing our brand refresh, it made sense to tackle the beer hall and create more beautiful and functional space for our fans” – Sam Hendler Co-Founder

This renovation follows the recent addition of a new “Tradition Meets Tech” pilot system installed at the end of 2022. The new pilot system is a 7BBL Brew House with a combination of traditional and new tools to expertly brew technical and innovative lagers. The system includes capacity for decoction brewing, horizontal lagering tanks, open fermentation vessels and a first-ever Coolship. This will vastly increase the range and total number of new beer hall beers the brewery can make in a year.

“This is really a dream setup for a lager brewer, and I have been really energized to get on the deck and experiment with so many of the ideas I’ve had in my head that I couldn’t previously brew. We’re going to make some incredible and fun new beers this year.” – Jack Hendler Co-Founder/Brewmaster

The brewery has already started experimenting with concepts like Black Pils, Dry-Hopped Pale Lager and deeper cuts like the Coolship Fermented Polotmavý Czech amber lager. They have promised to bring back more throwback fan favorites as well. Cult-favorite Fire In The Ham will be making its return shortly along with classics like Mass Rising, Saxonator and Ratskeller. These beers will be exclusive to the beer hall, and the program officially kicks off on March 17.

Jack’s Abby commented that this is the beginning of a series of changes designed to deliver the most exceptional lager experience possible for guests. Some of the changes currently in the works include the tour program, music program, beer garden space, new serving vessels, and a lot more. “We look forward to new and existing fans stopping by to see the new space, and we hope to keep delivering fun surprises throughout the year” remarked Sam.

About Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers

Jack’s Abby is a proudly independent and family-owned brewery based in Framingham Massachusetts. The brewery was founded in 2011 by 3 brothers – Jack, Eric and Sam Hendler. The brewery is the first lager-only craft brewery in the country. Their mission is to create high-quality products that honor tradition and the spirit of inspired innovation. With an entrepreneurial heart and a passion for people, they take pride in learning from and contributing to their vibrant community.

Rupee Beer Expands East Coast Distribution

March 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

BOSTON, Massachusetts – Rupee Beer is on a mission to bring Indian craft beer to the world and today announces its expansion into two new markets to include distribution across Pennsylvania & Rhode Island.

Rupee Beer is specially brewed to pair with Indian, spicy and world cuisine by world renowned master beer brewer and Indian chef. It is the first Indian-inspired beer to bridge the gap between world cuisine and craft brewing, with placement at select Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco & Total Wine locations.

Rupee is growing the presence of its multi award winning lager at 4.75% ABV fast, with availability across ten states presently.

Brothers Van & Sumit Sharma, sons of Punjabi restaurateurs in the business internationally for over 45 years, found themselves continually frustrated they could not find any Indian beer in Maine – the least diverse state in America where their family immigrated to from the United Kingdom & Germany in the early 90’s.

They decided to not only create their own beer, but set out to game change the food & beverage industry in a bold and diverse way. The Sharma brothers strategically partnered with global craft brewing legend Alan Pugsley, 40+ year master beer brewer, lover of Indian food as a British expat, and creator of over 80+ global beer brands, to create Rupee Beer and re-write everything society understands about craft lager as it relates to spicy world cuisine.

“We are a mission driven organization who want to promote Indian culture via beer and rethink the way we pair alcohol with world flavors. Our continued expansion into new markets not only showcases demand but also highlights Rupee is aiming to elevate the voice for more representation within the American craft beer arena”

ABOUT RUPEE BEER

Brewed with pristine quality in mind and premium rice, maize, malt, and three types of hops, Rupee Beer dismantles the traditional lager experience by lowering levels of carbonation to allow for a more comfortable and enjoyable dining experience.
