Ecliptic and Boneyard Create Mashup IPA for Next Cosmic Collaboration Release

February 21, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

PORTLAND, Oregon— Portland’s Ecliptic Brewing and Boneyard Beer of Bend, Oregon are collaborating on a mashup IPA to release on February 22. The beer, named STARPM IPA, will ship in 16-ounce cans and draft and will be the second beer in Ecliptic’s 2023 Cosmic Collaboration series.

STARPM IPA is a mashup recipe of Ecliptic’s Starburst IPA and Boneyard’s RPM IPA – both companies’ flagship beers. Both of the original beers are heavily hopped, and the mashup is no exception, featuring Citra, Simcoe, Centennial, Azacca and Amarillo hops for a citrusy and tropical flavor. The beer features a classic malt profile and clocks in at a solid 7.2% ABV.

Says Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris, “I used to work with Tony Lawrence [Boneyard’s founder] back at Deschutes- in fact, I hired him! It has been fun being able to work together again to blend our recipes into a new creation and decide on a name, which is also a mashup. I am pleased with how it’s turning out.”

STARPM IPA will be released in 16-ounce cans and draft throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network on February 22nd. Visit Ecliptic’s website for up-to-date details on this release and potential release events (tentatively planned for early March).

Ecliptic + Boneyard STARPM IPA

Our John Harris and Boneyard’s Founder and Brewmaster Tony Lawrence have a friendship that goes back many years – starting when John brought Tony into the beer universe hiring him as a brewer at Deschutes Brewery. This beer honors John and Tony’s long-lasting student/teacher friendship. For this latest reunion they chose to combine the incredible hop prowess of their beloved Starburst and RPM IPAs. The result? A unified force of citrusy and tropical hop aromas from Citra, Simcoe, Centennial, Azacca and Amarillo Hops–all against a classic malt profile with a dry finish.

ABV: 7.2%

IBU: 50

Avery Brewing Releases New Hop Freaks Exploration IPA Series: Brewed by Hop Freaks, For Hop Freaks

February 21, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

BOULDER, Colorado – After months of innovation and taproom trials, Avery Brewing Co. is launching a new series of IPAs brewed for crusaders of curiosity. As the first brewery to package an “India Pale Ale” in Colorado, Avery Brewing Co. has a long and storied love for all things hops. Nearly 30 years later, the brewing company is continuing to push boundaries in the limitless world of craft beer with their Hop Freaks Exploration Series. Joining the company’s core lineup are two IPAs: Clear Horizons and Nomadic Dreamer, with additional releases planned for later in the year. Capturing the spirit of continuous exploration, adventure and discovery, the Hop Freaks Exploration Series unleashes the inner vagabond inside each of us.

Set out for Clear Horizons, an IPA unlike any before it. This crisp, bright IPA boasts brilliant clarity with a vibrant blend of tropical hop flavor. Prepare for a cascade of citrus hop aromas, and a balanced bitterness that delights the palate. Awaken the Nomadic Dreamer inside of you with a deeply hazy, New England-style IPA that is illuminated with the aromas and flavors of orange and mango. Expect waves of juicy hop flavor and a tranquil finish that will leave you wanting more.

“Back when we developed Avery IPA in 1996, the India Pale Ale beer style was typically too bitter for many craft beer lovers. Times have certainly changed, and for the better!” said Adam Avery, Founder of Avery Brewing Company. “Using our new pilot system, we were able to experiment with new styles, unique hops, different yeast strains, and innovative brewing techniques to develop IPAs that are unlike any that we’ve brewed before. I’m very proud of where we’ve landed with these new IPAs, and we hope Avery fans agree.”

“The Hop Freaks Exploration Series was a fun new challenge for the brewing team at Avery,” shared Josh Rapp, Brewing Manager at Avery Brewing Company. “We were very intentional in developing the recipes for these beers, and wanted this series to follow the mantra ‘Brewed by Hop Freaks, for Hop Freaks’. We’re excited to see how Clear Horizons, Nomadic Dreamer, and future releases resonate with our fans. Hop Freaks Unite!”

Clear Horizons and Nomadic Dreamer will be joining Avery’s year-round core lineup in February and March 2023. These IPAs will be distributed across Avery’s retail footprint on draft, in six-packs of 12oz cans, and in the Avery Tap Room and to-go cooler. Visit the company’s Brew Finder to find it near you at averybrewing.com/brewfinder. The Hop Freaks Exploration Series: Brewed by Hop Freaks, for Hop Freaks.

Bootstrap Brewing Announces Medal AF Mosaic IPA

February 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

LONGMONT, Colorado – Bootstrap Brewing announced that its Medal AF Mosaic IPA will begin hitting store shelves in March through distribution partners in Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Utah, Missouri, and Idaho.

“While brainstorming new recipe ideas for our next can release over beers in the taproom, we came up with a really fun concept”, explained owner/brewer Steve Kaczeus. “What if we took the best ingredients and attributes of our two most medaled beers, Wreak Havoc and Stick’s, and created a new beer?”

Wreak Havoc Imperial Red and Stick’s Pale Ale have won 38 medals collectively including 3 at the highly competitive World Beer Cup and 4 at the Great American Beer Festival*

“Once we finalized the recipe, we turned our attention to the can design”, explained co-founder Leslie Kaczeus. “In line with our other animal themed can designs, we wanted to have a lot of fun with this can featuring a gorilla and other apes in a heavy metal scene for a play on words with ‘metal’ and ‘medal’. Moxie Sozo hit another home run by creating our main tattooed gorilla clutching a fist full of medals in his rock-n-roll hand surrounded by baboons, orangutans and chimpanzees smashing guitars, playing drums and of course our ever-present cowbell.”

The company will also donate a portion of beer sales proceeds to nonprofit groups with programs focused on the protection, conservation and education of apes. They have already started by adopting infant gorilla Uwacu from Dian Fossey’s Gorilla Fund based out of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Medal AF Mosaic IPA has a massive amount of Mosaic hops to provide a crisp finish with a pleasant lingering bitterness that encourages another sip. At 6.5% ABV and 53 IBUs, Medal AF will be available in 6 packs of 12-ounce cans and kegs for draft accounts.

*Wreak Havoc Imperial Red won:

  • Silver at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival in the Imperial Red Category
  • Bronze at the 2016, 2018, & 2022 World Beer Cup Competitions in the Imperial Red Category
  • Bronze at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival in the Imperial Red Category

Stick’s Pale Ale won

  • Gold at the 2016 and 2021 Great American Beer Festival in the American Pale Ale Category.

February 18, 2023 by Dow Scoggins

Knoxville, Tennessee – Yee-Haw Brewing Company opened its newest taproom location in North Knoxville at 745 N Broadway. The Brewing Company’s seventh taproom spans over 18,000 square feet of space, making it the second largest to date. Yee-Haw Knoxville includes an in-house brewery, 62 taps, a jumbotron, and a beer garden featuring an outdoor bar, shaded space, firepits, and an amphitheater equipped to host national touring acts and hold over seven hundred concertgoers.

“Jessi and I are thrilled to be able to bring our vision for Yee-Haw to Knoxville,” said Joe Baker, founder of Yee-Haw Brewing. “East Tennessee is home for both of us, and we’re excited to see the jobs and experiences that are going to come from our newest location.”

“We’re just so excited to welcome the community to this amazing new space and see how it comes to life,” says CEO of Yee-Haw Brewing, Jennifer Podhajsky. “It’s really the people that make our taprooms so special, and we can’t wait to see how Knoxville’s unique personality shines through. Whether you’re coming to a concert or just grabbing a beer with friends, we want this to be a place where good memories are made, surrounded by good people and great beer. That’s what Yee-Haw is all about.”

The North Knoxville taproom will expand Yee-Haw’s ongoing partnership with Prince’s Hot Chicken, the original hot chicken establishment in Nashville, TN, which began in a small house in 1936. “Our event planning team has pulled out all the stops for a celebratory series of events starting the week of February 27 that’ll really showcase what this space was intended for. Live music, watching the game on the jumbotron, community experiences, enjoying this massive outdoor space, and of course sharing a drink with friends. Full Circle Brewing and Sonoma Cider Partner with ByBlack

February 17, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

FRESNO, California –– Full Circle Brewing and Sonoma Cider are excited to partner with ByBlack, powered by U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC) to release a beer and cider under its Sonoma Cider brand in celebration of Black History Month.

The partnership hopes to increase the visibility of Black-owned breweries and address the under-representation of Blacks in the craft beer and cider industry, which is less than 1% Black-owned.

The new brew and cider will be available February 1st at Full Circle Brewing in Fresno, CA and at national retailers Costco, Safeway, Raleys, Bevmo, and TotalWine. You can also purchase online at www.fullcirclebrewing.com. The ByBlack x Full Circle Brewing Black History Month special edition will be named Juicy Vibes Hazy Pale Ale and The Sickle Pineapple Cider.

“Our goal is not only to support our community but also spread awareness about Black businesses and how we can build together through collaboration,” said Alicea Gay, VP of External Affairs at ByBlack. “We are excited about this partnership and look forward to seeing what else comes from it.”

This marks the third year of special releases from Full Circle celebrating Black History Month, and the most exciting partnership yet with ByBlack and USBC, two premier organizations helping to promote the growth and economic agenda for Black-Owned businesses throughout the nation.

Full Circle Brewing Co. CEO Arthur Moye explains “This partnership is about charting a path for success for other minority owned breweries who have historically been underrepresented, representing less than 1% of the nearly 9,000 breweries in the country. We strongly believe representation matters and are proud to be officially certified as a ByBlack Black-owned business.”

Of the 1% of Black Owned Breweries many are small and local, few are able to make the jump to full scale production breweries servicing Big Box Retailers. This gap is due to historical issues of Access to Capital in the Black Community. Full Circle Brewing Co. and Sonoma Cider have bridged that gap by leveraging Crowd Equity, and encouraging others to follow suit.

https://www.startengine.com/offering/fullcirclebrewing-cf-2

This collaborative beer marks a milestone for Fresno’s longest running brewery in their mission to spread the spirit of authenticity by building a network of real people with positive vibes and positive tribes that push away the negativity that too frequently guides people in this world.

This release marks the start of more innovative collaborations celebrating Black breweries planned for 2023 from Full Circle Brewing.

Questions about the collaboration and release can be directed to Adam Band at adam@fullcirclebrewing.com.

We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, developing everyday solutions to the generational problems of the Black economic agenda. Visit www.byblack.us for more information.
