Detroit Entrepreneur Mark Rieth Reacquires Atwater Brewery, Returning Iconic Craft Brewer to Local Ownership

June 27, 2026 by Dow Scoggins

Mark Rieth

DETROIT, Mich. (June 4, 2026) — In a full-circle moment for Detroit business and craft beer, Mark Rieth — the entrepreneur who owned and operated Atwater Brewery from 2005 to 2020 — has entered into a definitive agreement to reacquire the historic Detroit craft brewery. The deal returns Atwater to local ownership after it was sold to Molson Coors’ Tenth and Blake division in 2020 and later acquired by Tilray Brands in 2023.

Rieth, a longtime champion of Detroit-made products, is excited to bring the brewery back under independent local control. “My heart has always been with Atwater, and I’m thrilled to have the brewery back in my hands,” said Rieth. “I appreciate the stewardship of both Tenth and Blake and Tilray over the past five years. What I hope to bring is the deeper connection to the community that only a local owner/operator can truly provide.”

Strengthening Community Roots and Detroit Legacy

Atwater Brewery has been a cornerstone of Michigan’s craft beer scene for more than three decades. Founded in Detroit’s historic Rivertown district, the brewery is known for award-winning beers including flagship favorites Dirty Blonde Ale and Vanilla Java Porter, along with a diverse lineup of German-inspired lagers and distinctive craft ales distributed across Michigan and multiple states nationwide.

“Atwater has always been more than just a brewery. It’s a hometown brand that has shown up for Detroit through community events, civic organizations, and neighborhood partnerships,” Rieth added. “I’m excited to build on that legacy, strengthen those connections, and continue producing world-class beer.”

Expanding a Detroit Portfolio

Since selling Atwater in 2020, Rieth founded FÜL Beverages, a company focused on locally produced non-alcoholic and functional beverages. In 2025, he acquired the nearly century-old Velvet Peanut Butter brand — another iconic Detroit original. As part of the Atwater reacquisition, Velvet Peanut Butter’s offices and distribution will move into the Rivertown complex, and Rieth plans to open “Velvet House,” a brand immersion experience and retail center.

Rieth also owns Lansing Brewing Company and intends to create stronger collaboration between his breweries. The transaction, which includes the Atwater brands, equipment, and intellectual property (while Rieth had retained the historic real estate), is expected to close in summer 2026.

This homecoming reinforces the motto “Born in Detroit. Raised Everywhere.” and signals a bright future for one of Michigan’s pioneering craft breweries under dedicated local leadership.

Lone Tree Brewing Co.

PARKER, CO — June 2026 — Lone Tree Brewing Company is resurrecting a fan-favorite twist on its cult-classic Hop Zombie with the return of Summer Hop Zombie (also known as Summer Solstice Imperial Juicy IPA). The high-octane summer seasonal launches on June 20, 2026 — perfectly timed for the summer solstice — and will be available for one day only at the brewery’s Parker location.

Bursting with bigger hops, intense tropical fruit aromas, and a potent 10% ABV bite, Summer Hop Zombie delivers hypnotic waves of passionfruit, mango, pineapple, and citrus backed by a juicy, resinous hop character. This limited Imperial Juicy IPA is designed for true hop lovers seeking bold summer vibes and big flavor.

Limited Release Details and Exclusive Merch

The beer will be available on draft and in 6-packs to-go at Lone Tree Brewing Parker — but supplies won’t last long. The first ten people in line on June 20 will score a free glass.

“Surf’s up. Cans down. This one’s for the legends.”

The 14-Year Hop Zombie Legacy

Hop Zombie has been a cornerstone of Lone Tree Brewing’s lineup for over 14 years. The original is a bold Imperial Red IPA known for its deep red color, rich malt backbone, and massive hop presence (typically around 9% ABV and 90 IBUs). The Summer Solstice version transforms the classic into a hazy, juicy summer powerhouse while keeping the legendary attitude intact. This marks the second annual return of the summer edition.

A full Zombie Day celebration at Lone Tree Brewing’s original Lone Tree location is scheduled for later this fall.

About Lone Tree Brewing Company

Lone Tree Brewing Company opened its doors in 2011 as the first brewery in Lone Tree, Colorado, helping establish the South Metro Denver area as a destination for quality craft beer. Founded by a passionate team with deep local roots, the brewery quickly earned a loyal following for its bold, flavorful beers that refuse to compromise on taste or quality. Raised Grain Brewing Company Launches LowDown Low Alcohol Beer: Full Craft Flavor at Just 2.5% ABV

June 22, 2026 by Dow Scoggins

Raised Grain Brewing Co.

Waukesha, WI — June 2026 — Raised Grain Brewing Company, known for its bold and expressive craft beers, has announced the launch of LowDown Low Alcohol Beer. This new lineup delivers full-flavored craft beer brewed to only 2.5% ABV, giving beer lovers great taste with more control over their day.
LowDown rolls out in June 2026 across the Milwaukee area through Beer Capitol Distributing. It will be available in convenient 6-pack 12 oz. cans, half barrels, and sixth barrels.

All the Flavor, a Fraction of the Alcohol

Raised Grain built its reputation on IPAs with real punch, complex Belgian styles, and lagers that stand on their own. LowDown maintains that same high standard after a full year of research and development. The result is a lineup of low-alcohol beers that taste like their full-strength counterparts.
“We spent a year developing this. Every batch, every tweak was aimed at one thing: can we lower the alcohol without the drinker noticing anything missing? The answer is yes,” says Dr. Scott Kelley, Owner and Brewmaster of Raised Grain Brewing Company. “LowDown drinks like a full craft beer because it is one. The only thing we took out was the alcohol.”

Designed for Real Craft Beer Drinkers

LowDown fills a growing need in the craft beer world. While non-alcoholic beers have increased in popularity, many lack the bold flavor serious craft drinkers expect. LowDown offers a better middle ground — intentionally low in alcohol but packed with authentic craft character.

Whether it’s a long afternoon on the patio, an all-day backyard party, or a game day that starts early, LowDown lets you enjoy real beer flavor while staying sharp.
“More and more, I see drinkers have one or two regular beers and then reach for something lighter — not because they don’t love beer, but because they want to stay sharp and keep enjoying themselves,” says Nick Reistad, Owner and COO of Raised Grain Brewing Company. “LowDown solves that. You get the bold, familiar craft flavor and you stay in control of where the night goes.”

LowDown Hazy (2.5% ABV | 115 Calories)

Soft, juicy, and refreshing with bright citrus and tropical notes. Delivers the hazy character craft fans crave in an easy-drinking package.
LowDown IPA (2.5% ABV | 90 Calories)

Bright citrus, pine, and a crisp bite with a clean, refreshing finish. All the hallmarks of a classic IPA, built for longer sessions.
LowDown Lager (2.5% ABV | 80 Calories)

Crisp, clean, and smooth. A straightforward lager that doesn’t hide behind simplicity — it delivers pure refreshment.

Availability

LowDown Low Alcohol Beer launches on June 1, 2026, in the Milwaukee area through Beer Capitol Distributing. Look for it in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans, half barrels, and sixth barrels at local retailers, bars, and restaurants.

About Raised Grain Brewing Co.

Raised Grain Brewing Co. was founded when two local doctors passionate about homebrewing connected with a professional cyclist and a local entrepreneur. Today, the brewery remains committed to boldly brewed beer — elevating the craft through passion, precision, and high-quality ingredients.

Flagstaff, AZ — Mother Road Brewing Company is continuing the statewide rollout of AZ250 Arizona Lager, the official beer of Arizona’s celebration of the United States Semiquincentennial (America 250).

Brewed in Flagstaff, this crisp, light, and refreshing American lager is designed for broad appeal across the state. It is now available in 12 oz. 6-packs and on draft at bars, restaurants, retail locations, Fry’s Food Stores, and other major grocery chains throughout Arizona.

Partnership with Arizona America250 Commission

AZ250 Arizona Lager was developed in partnership with Arizona’s America250 Commission and serves as the exclusive beer tied to the state’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The collaboration highlights Arizona’s role in American history while supporting statewide educational and community programming.
For every case equivalent sold, Mother Road Brewing Company donates $2.50 to fund educational initiatives and community events through the Arizona America250 effort.

“Beer brings people together, and nothing is more American than a cold beer with friends and family,” said Michael Marquess, CEO and Founder of Mother Road Brewing Company. “We are proud to brew the official beer for Arizona’s 250th anniversary and to contribute to programs that celebrate our shared history.”

Packaging and Design

The packaging draws inspiration from vintage Arizona travel memorabilia and prominently features the official Arizona America250 logo, which was selected through a statewide design contest. The artwork celebrates Arizona’s landscapes, industries, and cultural heritage while tying into Mother Road’s deep roots along historic Route 66.

Upcoming Events

Arizona’s America250 celebrations continue throughout 2026. One highlight is the Road to 250: Arizona Traveling Museum, an interactive history exhibit touring all 15 counties. The Flagstaff stop is scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Flagstaff Visitor Center (1 East Route 66).

Brief History of Mother Road Brewing Company

Mother Road Brewing Company was founded in 2011 in Flagstaff, Arizona, by Michael Marquess. The name “Mother Road” comes from John Steinbeck’s description of historic Route 66 in The Grapes of Wrath.

The brewery started small on the original 1926 alignment of Route 66 (Mike’s Pike) with an experimental taproom focused on innovative beers. In 2018, it expanded with a larger production facility and taproom on Butler Avenue. Today, Mother Road is a respected regional brewery known for quality lagers, IPAs (including the popular Tower Station IPA), and a commitment to sustainability. Its beers are distributed across Arizona (via Hensley Beverage Company), Southern Nevada, and New Mexico.

Both locations welcome guests for pints, conversation, games, and merchandise while the Butler Avenue site handles large-scale production for statewide distribution.

Urban South Brewery Rebrands Flagship THC Beverage as Stratus Spritz in New Orleans

April 15, 2026 by Dustin Scoggins

image-01

New Orleans, LA — Urban South Brewery has unveiled a refreshed brand identity for one of its flagship THC beverages. Formerly known as Stratus, the product is now reintroduced as Stratus Spritz, complete with a vibrant new look and elevated positioning.

The updated design features a brighter, more refined aesthetic with a crisp color palette and clean, modern elements that highlight a light, uplifting, and refreshing drinking experience.

Why the Rebrand?

Urban South originally launched Stratus as a THC seltzer. However, evolving market trends and Louisiana regulations (limiting THC beverages to 5 mg per serving) created an opportunity to reposition the product. With increasing competition in the seltzer category, the brewery shifted Stratus to a spritz — an elevated, flavor-forward, lifestyle-driven alternative that emphasizes drinkability and sophistication.

“This rebrand represents an important evolution for Stratus,” said Jacob Landry, Co-Founder of Urban South Brewery. “We saw an opportunity to refine both the product and its positioning to better meet the market, while still delivering a refreshing, enjoyable experience for our customers.”

Current Flavors and Availability

Stratus Spritz is currently available in two refreshing flavors:

Peach Spritz
Watermelon Spritz

A new tropical flavor is expected to launch soon.

Stratus Spritz comes in a variety of THC strengths tailored to meet different state-specific regulations. It is available throughout Urban South’s distribution network, with nationwide shipping offered where permitted. Fans can use the Urban South Beer Finder on the brewery’s website to locate the nearest retailer.

History of Urban South Brewery

Urban South Brewery was founded in 2016 in New Orleans by Jacob Landry (a Cajun from Southwest Louisiana) and Kyle Huling. What started as a small taproom in a historic warehouse on Tchoupitoulas Street has grown into one of the leading craft breweries in the South and the second-largest brewery by volume in Louisiana.

Known for blending European beer-making traditions with bold American craft styles, Urban South produces easy-drinking, high-quality beers perfect for the Southern climate. Flagship offerings include Holy Roller Hazy Juicy IPA and Paradise Park American Lager. The brewery has expanded into multiple states, recently acquired Perfect Plain Brewing Co. in Pensacola, Florida, and continues to celebrate its 10-year milestone in 2026 while staying rooted in community and authentic Southern hospitality.

New Riff Distilling and Rhinegeist Brewing Release DUET American Whiskey: A Barley-Focused Collaboration

April 15, 2026 by Dustin Scoggins

image-01

Newport, KY — Two beloved Greater Cincinnati-area beverage makers have teamed up to create DUET American Whiskey, a unique collaboration between New Riff Distilling (Newport, KY) and Rhinegeist Brewing (Cincinnati, OH).

Highlighting barley — a key grain in both whiskey and beer — this special-release whiskey blends Kentucky’s distilling heritage with Cincinnati’s rich brewing tradition.

A Natural Collaboration Between Brewers and Distillers

New Riff Master Distiller Brian Sprance, a former brewer himself, partnered with the Rhinegeist team on the project.
“This collaboration wasn’t intended to recreate something that already exists,” said Sprance. “Brewers work with an incredible range of grains, malts, and yeast strains, and with our shared background in brewing, that creative overlap felt very natural. The result is a whiskey that’s a little unexpected for Kentucky, and a great reflection of what can happen when distillers and brewers who’ve known each other for years come together to create something new.”

Unique Mashbill and Aging Process

DUET American Whiskey features an uncommon mashbill of 57% malted barley, 37% raw barley, and 6% rye.
It undergoes a distinctive aging regimen: the majority rested in new American oak barrels, with select portions in Spanish oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. The final blend was married in a massive foeder previously used for beer maturation at Rhinegeist, then re-barreled into used American oak barrels to harmonize flavors.

Aged at least 6 years and bottled at 111.2 proof (55.6% ABV), DUET offers:

Nose: Fresh barley and bright grain, with notes of green melon, tangerine, orchard fruit, dark fruit, and leathery sherry.
Palate: Traditional grain flavors with delicate savory notes, cracker malt, citrus, and rich sherry influence.
Finish: Lingering sherry and tangerine notes.

Bottle Design and Community Ties

The collaboration extends to the bottle artwork, created by graphic designers Jared Wagner (New Riff) and Chloe Rethman (Rhinegeist), who met while working at FC Cincinnati and were married last May.

“We’re thrilled to add another layer of meaning to Spirit of the Rhine when limited quantities of DUET are released across Ohio and Kentucky in concert with our friends across the river at New Riff Distilling,” said Rhinegeist CEO Adam Bankovich. “The project was inspired by the mutual appreciation our teams have for each other, and it is no surprise the past year of collaboration has been so harmonious.”

Availability

DUET American Whiskey goes on sale Friday, April 10, 2026, for $79.99 per 750ml bottle at New Riff’s gift shop and select retailers in Ohio and Kentucky.
It is also available by the pour in The Aquifer Tasting Room at New Riff Distilling and at Rhinegeist’s Tap Room.
This marks the latest in New Riff’s series of local collaborations, following previous partnerships with Cincinnati brands and Graeter’s ice cream in 2025.

About New Riff Distilling

Fiercely independent and innovative, New Riff Distilling was founded in 2014 in Newport, Kentucky. The distillery uses time-honored sour mash methods and bottled-in-bond standards while creating fresh riffs on tradition. It produces award-winning bourbon, rye, single malt whiskey, and gin. Its flagship Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was named the World’s Best Bourbon at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards. New Riff sources pristine water from a private aquifer well and offers a popular private barrel selection program. Public spaces include the Riff Shop and The Aquifer Tasting Room, featuring cocktails, flights, and rare releases.

About Rhinegeist Brewery

Founded in 2013 in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, Rhinegeist Brewery (“Spirit of the Rhine”) operates in a pre-Prohibition bottling plant. Ranked as Ohio’s largest craft brewery by volume and 16th largest in the U.S. (2024 Brewers Association report), Rhinegeist crafts beers with spirit and community focus.

Pelican Brewing Company Launches Two New Spring Beers: Mr. Lager’s Neighborhood Collaboration Lager and Overboard Triple IPA

April 14, 2026 by Dustin Scoggins

Pacific City, Ore. — Just in time for spring, Pelican Brewing Company has released two exciting new special-release beers: Mr. Lager’s Neighborhood and Overboard Triple IPA.

Mr. Lager’s Neighborhood: A Packaged Collaboration with Grand Fir Brewing

Pelican Brewing, an independent and locally owned Oregon brewery, has launched a new collaboration series to celebrate and support independent breweries across the craft beer community.

The first release, Mr. Lager’s Neighborhood, is a joint creation between Pelican brewmaster Darron Welch and Grand Fir Brewing brewmaster Whitney Burnside in Southeast Portland. The two share a longtime connection—Burnside trained under Welch at the original Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City and later won her first Great American Beer Festival medal there.

“We want to pay tribute to the hardworking brewers who are pursuing their passions every day and making great beers for their neighborhoods,” said Darron Welch. “Working with Whitney on this first release was such a fun way to honor our shared history and natural partnership. It was a true delight to create something together again and toast to the future of the industry as a team.”

Mr. Lager’s Neighborhood is a 5.7% ABV lager featuring bright Strata and Cashmere hops with tasting notes of honeydew, tangerine, and marionberry. It’s a friendly, approachable beer that reminds drinkers “it’s a beautiful day in the brewery.”

The beer is brewed and packaged at Pelican’s Tillamook production brewery. Both breweries are co-marketing the release and sharing revenue from the co-branded product.

Overboard Triple IPA: A Bold New Addition

Pelican Brewing has also introduced Overboard Triple IPA, a powerhouse 10.2% ABV beer inspired by the wild spirit of the Oregon Coast.
“Overboard is brewed for moments that match its adventurous spirit,” said brewmaster Darron Welch. “This beer is your companion for unforgettable coastal experiences—from watching waves crash against rugged cliffs, to sharing stories around a beach bonfire, to celebrating a hard-earned summit with friends.”
Packed with vibrant pine and citrus aromatics, intense hop character, and a clean Northwest finish, Overboard delivers bold depth while remaining smooth and drinkable.

Availability
Both new spring releases—Mr. Lager’s Neighborhood and Overboard Triple IPA—are now available on draft and in six-packs of 12-ounce cans at all Pelican Brewing locations and select retailers throughout the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, and Idaho).

About Pelican Brewing Company

Born at the beach in 1996, Pelican Brewing Company is celebrating 30 years as Oregon’s only beachfront brewpub and one of the state’s most award-winning breweries (with over 450 awards). Playful yet purposeful, Pelican brews with passion and respect for the craft.
The brewery operates coastal brewpubs in Pacific City, Cannon Beach, and Siletz Bay; a production facility and taproom in Tillamook; and a newly opened taproom in Rockaway Beach. Pelican beers are available at its locations and in stores across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

About Maui Brewing Co.
Maui Brewing Company kicked off its aloha-filled adventure in 2005 when founders Garrett Marrero and Melanie Oxley turned a small seven-barrel brewpub in Kahana, Maui, into a craft beer dream come true—starting with just 320 barrels that first year. What began as a humble spot with the original brewhouse still on proud display quickly swelled into Hawaii’s largest independent craft brewery, complete with a groundbreaking grid-independent production facility in Kihei that runs on solar power and a growing ‘ohana of restaurants across Maui and Oahu. From pioneering the first commercial coconut beer to embracing fiercely local ingredients and sustainable practices, Maui Brewing has grown into one of the top craft breweries in the U.S. while staying true to brewing authentic ales and lagers with pure island spirit.

Maui Brewing Company’s beers capture the laid-back magic of the islands in every sip, blending bold innovation with refreshing drinkability that keeps locals and visitors coming back for more. Flagship favorites like the crisp, golden Bikini Blonde Lager and the hop-forward Big Swell IPA deliver sunny vibes, while the tropical twist of Coconut Hiwa Porter brings rich, toasted coconut notes that taste like a beach day in a can. Adventurous drinkers love the hazy punch of OMG Hazy IPA, the easy-going Pau Hana Pilsner (perfect for after-work unwind), and lighter options like Maui Light and Da Hawaii Life Lite Lager—all brewed with aloha using premium ingredients. Whether you’re cracking open a cold one at the brewery or grabbing a six-pack to go, Maui Brewing’s lineup turns every occasion into a mini Hawaiian getaway.
