June 25, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Harpoon BreweryBOSTON, Massachusetts – Only one thing beats crushing a 5K or winning the local rec. league championships: having that perfect can in hand to celebrate. That’s why Boston neighbors Harpoon Breweryand Reebok announce that they are coming together for a new collaboration: Harpoon Rec. League – The Reebok Edition, a co-branded release of the brewery’s low-cal, low-alcohol hoppy and hazy pale ale. The collaboration features the same recipe Harpoon fans know and love encased in a new fresh Reebok-inspired container, including cans sporting the Reebok logo and 12-pack packaging evoking the Reebok sneaker box design.

Sharing a common desire to celebrate human movement, the brands are uniting to raise funds for BOKS, a program dedicated to promoting life-long health and fitness. While supplies last a portion of sales for each purchase of the Harpoon Rec. League Reebok Edition 12-Pack, will go directly to BOKS to encourage movement in local youth communities.

“Rec. League was the first beer we created that both complements an active lifestyle and embodies our ‘love beer, love life’ moto,” said Dan Kenary, CEO and co-founder of Harpoon Brewery. “Partnering with Reebok, a brand dedicated to sports and fitness and the impact they have on peoples’ lives, made sense with them not only being our neighbor, but also their passion for giving back to our shared local community. We’re excited to be working with them and giving back to BOKS.”

“We are thrilled to support BOKS through this unique collaboration,” said Caroline Machen, VP of Global Marketing at Reebok Design Group. “We are excited to see the positive impact that this partnership will have on our community as Harpoon shares Reebok’s commitment of enhancing the lives of others.”

Coming in at 4.0% ABV and only 120 calories per 12 oz. serving, it provides flavor and drinkability that won’t slow you down.

The Reebok Edition of Harpoon Rec. League will be available in 4-packs ($8.99) and 12-packs ($14.99) starting in July. It will be available on tap at both the Boston and Windsor, VT Tap Rooms and wherever Harpoon beers are distributed.

Crux Fermentation Project Celebrates 10 Years of Community and Craft Beer

June 25, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Crux Fermentation Project BEND, Ore. — Crux Fermentation Project is celebrating ten years of community and craft beer in the Pacific Northwest this month. The Bend-based operation is a brewer-owned and operated craft community committed to producing beer, wine, cider and – most recently – whiskey of the highest quality. After a decade of pursuing brewing perfection and fermentative experimentation each and every day, Crux has cemented its position as a favorite of locals, visitors and craft beer enthusiasts alike.

Crux Fermentation Project will celebrate its tenth anniversary with its annual Cruxapalooza event on Saturday, June 25th. The official kickoff to the summer season, the day will be filled with live music, activities including tie-dye t-shirt station and a 5K fun run, and the best beers in town. Master Brewer Larry Sidor has created a special 10th Anniversary IPA that will be released at the event. An IPA that he himself would most enjoy, the Anniversary IPA is a combination of some of Larry’s all-time favorite hops, added three different ways at three different times throughout the brewing process. Cruxapalooza will see a number of additional new beer releases as part of the tasting room’s 25-beer tap list.

“Crux started out as a passion project for me, but even after ten years, we still operate with the same driving force,” said Larry Sidor, Founder and Master Brewer at Crux Fermentation Project. “Everything we endeavor to do is driven by our authentic passion for the craft and our commitment to quality. From rare yeast strains to whole leaf hops to experimental brewing methods, we’re going to do whatever it takes to make the next great beer. It’s hard to believe it’s already been ten years – I think we’re just getting started!”

In its ten years of operation, Crux Fermentation Project has built a one-of-a-kind brewery based on the love of beer. The brewery has successfully enhanced consumer knowledge of fermentation through beer and beyond. Some of Crux’s proudest accomplishments in the past ten years include:

To date, the brewery has 6,350 total brews in the books, resulting in the pilsners, IPAs, porters, saisons, stouts and sours you’ve seen on tap and in the market. Crux released its first wine in 2020 and its first whiskey in 2022. Consistently an early adopter of innovative brewing techniques and ingredients like the Southern Hemisphere Galaxy hop featured in Cast Out (originally named Outcast), crafting Crux Pilz before craft lagers and pilsners were widely popular, and experimenting with spontaneously fermented beers.Pioneered a non-alcoholic beer line, NØ MØ, to keep up with consumer demand and provide alternative options for taproom guests. The brewing team prides itself on using traditional craft brewing ingredients and techniques for its non-alcoholic line, resulting in a “near beer” that is still fermented with familiar flavors.

In addition to its original location, Crux opened a production brewery on the north side of Bend in 2015. In 2018, the brewery completed an extensive taproom expansion project featuring additional service counters, modern interior design updates, and increased indoor and outdoor seating. Launched the highly sought-after [BANISHED] Series, a limited series of barrel-aged imperial stouts and sour ales including Tough Love, Lost Love, Bramble Candy and Freakcake.Larry Sidor opened Crux Fermentation Project in 2012 with co-founders Paul Evers and Dave Wilson after renovating an old AAMCO Transmission shop. Sidor has spent more than 40 years in the Pacific Northwest beer industry, innovating and developing a huge variety of legendary recipes for names like Deschutes Brewery and Olympia Brewing Company. Beer is just the beginning for Crux – there will be much more to explore as the brewery continues its endless pursuit toward fermentation perfection.

All are invited to celebrate 10 years of Crux Fermentation Project at Cruxapalooza. To learn more, visit Cruxapalooza.com.

Karl Strauss and Boochcraft Spill the Tea on their Collaboration: A Grapefruit Hibiscus IPA

June 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Karl Strauss SAN DIEGO, California – Each quarter Karl Strauss Brewing Company debuts its latest release in its highly anticipated Collaboration Series. For this round, the company teamed up with fellow San Diego locals Boochcraft Organic Hard Kombucha to give both craft beer and Hard Kombucha fans something to fall in love with. Inspired by the infusion process frequently utilized in crafting Hard Kombucha, When Worlds Collide Grapefruit Hibiscus IPA makes its statewide debut on June 23rd.

With 30+ years of craft beer brewing expertise under their belts, the Karl Strauss team was eager to collaborate with the pros at Boochcraft, and explore a world familiar, yet wholly new: tea and botanicals.

“We have true masters of the craft on our brewing team, but one thing we’d never experimented with was infusing a beer with tea & botanicals. The Boochcraft team are absolute masters at this process, so our crew was excited to learn from them. We found that combining the right botanicals enhanced the hop characteristics of this IPA in a unique way, resulting in this beautiful hybrid-like beer that falls somewhere between a Hard Kombucha and a San Diego-style IPA.”

– Paul Segura, Brewmaster, Karl Strauss Brewing Company

“We could not be more thrilled to work with the legendary team at Karl Strauss Brewing Company. They brought an incredible depth of knowledge and mastery of the fermentation sciences to create a collaborative product the likes of which have not been seen before. Bringing together a familiar and exceptional San Diego style IPA with the Boochcraft botanical signature, we created an exceptional beer with enhanced depth in the aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel. Crisp, clean, refreshing, with just the right balance of fruit, hops, and botanicals; it is truly two worlds colliding in the best way!”

– Kyle Oliver, R&D Manager, Boochcraft

Although inspired by Hard Kombucha, the finished product is a beer through and through. When Worlds Collide is an India Pale Ale brewed with Citra, Cascade and Sequoia hops, as well as grapefruit, dried Hibiscus, black tea, and ginger. It’s delightfully citrusy, backed by a slight tartness and warming herbal notes. This IPA will release on Thursday, June 23rd in 16oz 4-packs and draft at all Karl Strauss brewpub locations, as well as finer craft beer establishments throughout California and Arizona.

About Karl Strauss Brewing Company

Karl Strauss Brewing Company has been proudly independent since 1989, pioneering the craft beer scene with innovative and award-winning releases. They have an ongoing collaboration series with some of the nation’s most well-respected breweries and are known for launching exciting new brands like their tangerine-inspired Tangible IPA, as well as cult classics like their Red Trolley Irish Red.

About Boochcraft

Almanac Beer Co. Releases New Year-Round West Coast Pale Ale ‘FLOW Pale Ale’

June 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Almanac Beer CompanyALAMEDA ISLAND, CalifORNIA – Northern California’s farm-to-barrel craft beer pioneers Almanac Beer Co. expands its year-round fresh beer portfolio with a new West Coast pale ale honoring a style that put California craft beer on the map. FLOW Pale Ale (5.5% ABV) fits right into the Almanac family of fresh beers available 12 months of the year along with fan-favorites LOVE Hazy IPA, LOUD! Hazy DIPA, and TRUE Kölsch. FLOW Pale Ale takes a classic West Coast style and brews it for the modern drinker who loves to kick back a cold one (or three!) after a day of kayaking, lazy river rafting, or hitting the mountain biking trails.

The Chevron mosaic label design of FLOW Pale Ale (pictured below) pops with just as much punch as when opening a 16 oz. can on the beach. The golden hour glow of a California sunset with hues of turquoise reflecting off of the ocean water composes the FLOW color palette. Dry-hopped with Simcoe and El Dorado, FLOW is full of character with a super light body. “Nothing hits the spot quite like a refreshing West Coast pale ale! As the beer style that originally captured my heart, I decided it was time to create a worthy Almanac version. It took over a year of R&D before we nailed the final recipe, but we couldn’t be more excited about the result. FLOW is all about balance. It’s got a huge hop aroma and is bursting with notes of juicy lemon, ripe melon, and fresh berries and pine. The bitterness is restrained, the finish is clean, and the body is light and crisp. FLOW is a simple beer, and it’s just plain delicious.” -Damian Fagan, Founder & CEO, Almanac Beer Co.

Almanac beers can be enjoyed at their beautiful 30,000 square feet Alameda Island brewery and taproom (and their outdoor beer garden) located inside a refurbished former airplane hangar (originally built in 1942). FLOW Pale Ale and an array of delicate and crisp lagers, complex barrel-aged sours, decadent stouts, and aromatic hazy IPAs are available in stores and on draft throughout Northern and Southern California, as well as select states across the country.

About Almanac Beer Co.

Almanac was launched in 2011 by Damian Fagan and Jesse Friedman, two avid homebrewers who bonded over their mutual appreciation for California farmer’s markets. They set out to brew beers inspired by California’s rich agricultural bounty, and brewed their first beer — a Belgian-style golden ale aged in Sonoma County Zinfandel barrels with Sonoma County blackberries. Our name, Almanac, refers to the Farmer’s Almanac, a reference guide for farmers that has been published every year since 1818. Our motto, Farm to Barrel, was adopted to reflect our passion for brewing barrel-aged beers that showcase ingredients from California farms. All of our beers are brewed, aged, and packaged at our 30,000 square feet brewery on the former Alameda Point Naval Airbase on beautiful Alameda Island. Our portfolio of beers spans the gamut from delicate oak-aged lagers, to nuanced barrel-aged sours, decadent stouts, and of course, hazy IPAs.

Threes Brewing Releases New Foudre Fermented Czech Pilsner

June 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Threes BrewingBROOKLYN, New York – Threes Brewing has just released a brand new Foudre Fermented Czech Pilsner. The World We Live In showcases the nuanced transformation a beer can undergo when aged in an oak foudre. A nod to Lifeworld, Threes’ 12º Czech Pilsner, The World We Live in possesses layers of complexity and softness and an enhanced, pillowy body. Fruity esters and floral undertones come through, alongside a balanced bitterness that boasts moderate tannins and hints of vanilla. The beer finishes at just 4.5% ABV and is a welcomed addition to Threes’ ever-expanding portfolio of Czech Pilsners.

Lead Brewer Ben Petersen says, “The World We Live In is a great example of the impact lagering in oak can have on a beer and the sensory expressions it imparts. The qualities lent from the foudre create a more complex, flavorful, and full-bodied beer than if it were exclusively aged in stainless. Ultimately, this difference in process creates a beer that is well balanced and unique, and would be a special offering for any occasion.”

Mikkeller Launches New House of the Dragon-Inspired Ales

June 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Mikkeller KØBENHAVN, Denmark – The Danish brewery and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) have come together to create two exclusive beers to prepare for the upcoming HBO series ‘House of the Dragon.’

Syrax and Caraxes are the names of two beers that will be launched as the release date of the coming HBO series House of the Dragon gets closer. The beers are the first in a new line from Mikkeller that marks the long-awaited series. These first editions, which are based on Styrian Dragon hops and dragon fruit, respectively, celebrate the story of the Targaryens and their dragons who ruled Westeros – 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen made it her mission to take back the Iron Throne.

“The Targaryens ruled with fire and blood. ‘Fire’ is a reference to the legendary dragons they rode, so it made sense for us to find inspiration for the ingredients in these majestic and terrifying beasts that conquered the Seven Kingdoms.,” says Mikkel Bjergsø, founder and creative director of Mikkeller.

Based on this, Mikkeller’s team decided to make two distinct beers; one that utilizes Styrian Dragon hops and one that’s infused with Dragon fruit.

Syrax (Session IPA, 3.5% vol.) For this light, bright, and high-flying session IPA, Mikkeller has used Styrian Dragon hops. This imparts some earthy, spicy notes and particularly a grapefruit-like citrus balance atop a light foundation from the low ABV. Ideal to drink while soaking up the sun!

Caraxes (Non Alc dragon fruit Ale, 0.3% vol.) For this wonderful alcohol-free beer, Mikkeller took its fresh, cider-like base beer Limbo, and added fresh dragon fruit. The delicate foundation is topped off with notes of pear and kiwi from the dragon fruit, leading to an exotic, thirst-quenching beer.

The two new House of the Dragon-inspired beers will be launched on June 22nd in several European markets, including Italy, France, UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark,  Norway, the Netherlands, among others.

Merchandise such as t-shirts, table tents, and coasters will be available via www.shop.mikkeller.dk/ and in selected premium grocery channels.
