Dragon’s Milk Introduces Its First-Ever IPA

July 11, 2025 by Dow Scoggins

Holland, MI – New Holland Brewing Co., the team behind the iconic Dragon’s Milk series, announces the release of Dragon’s Milk Emerald IPA, the first India Pale Ale to join the Dragon’s Milk family. Developed over two years, Emerald IPA is a hop-focused creation that stays true to the core values that have defined Dragon’s Milk for more than two decades: bold character, layered flavor, and a deep respect for time, oak, and craft.
Fermented entirely in large oak foeders, Emerald IPA develops natural vanilla, soft oak, and a round body from the start. This sets it apart from beers that are only barrel aged. Brewed with Lotus hops, it delivers bright citrus, floral lift, and gentle spice for a refreshing and complex finish.
“This beer is the natural result of our ongoing curiosity around what wood can do,” said Brett VanderKamp, Founder of New Holland Brewing Co. “We have always explored how time and oak shape flavor, and this time we applied that philosophy to hops. Emerald IPA is a new direction, but it carries the same spirit that defines every Dragon’s Milk release.”

Lotus hops bring notes of orange blossom, subtle spice, and a floral character that enhances the smooth, oak-kissed profile of the beer. Medium-bodied and expressive, Emerald IPA offers a distinctive take on the style while staying grounded in the Dragon’s Milk tradition.
Emerald IPA is now available on draft at New Holland Brewing Co.’s brewpubs in Holland and Grand Rapids, Michigan. It will also be distributed in select markets, including California, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Connecticut.

First brewed in 2001, Dragon’s Milk began as a singular bourbon barrel aged stout and has grown into one of the most recognized barrel aged beer brands in the country. Each release continues the tradition of crafting beers with purpose and patience. Emerald IPA represents a new chapter in the Dragon’s Milk legacy. It is a vibrant and complex expression built on the same foundation of care, creativity, and barrel character.

Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth IPA: A Beer with a Bold Name and Bolder Flavor

May 3, 2025 by Dow Scoggins

Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth: A Beer with a Bold Name and Bolder Flavor

In the world of craft beer, where names often lean into the quirky or provocative, Printer’s Ale Manufacturing Co. out of Carrollton, Georgia, has raised the bar with their New England IPA, Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth. This beer, a draft-only offering in the Atlanta market, isn’t just a catchy name—it’s a juicy, hazy triumph that delivers on flavor while poking playful fun at Hollywood’s ever-polarizing Ben Affleck.

The Beer Behind the Name
Let’s get one thing straight: Printer’s Ale isn’t throwing shade at Affleck out of malice. As they’ve stated, they don’t hate the guy—they just found his casting as Batman a bit… questionable, and his on-screen mouth a tad distracting. The name is a tongue-in-cheek nod to Affleck’s larger-than-life persona, and the beer itself is anything but a gimmick. With a 7.1% ABV and a rating of 4.1 out of 5 from 134 reviews on Untappd, this IPA has won over craft beer fans with its bold profile and smooth execution.

Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth is a New England-style IPA, known for its hazy appearance, juicy fruit flavors, and soft mouthfeel. Brewed with Citra, Galaxy, and Newzill hops, it bursts with tropical notes—think mango, pineapple, and citrus zest—balanced by a subtle bitterness that keeps it refreshing. Unlike some NEIPAs, this one skips the lactose, letting the hops shine without a creamy heft. The result is a medium-bodied beer that’s smooth yet punchy, living up to its description as “a big, fat, juicy beer that is ready to win you over with all the haze and mystery.”

A Hero No One Asked For, But Everyone Deserves
Printer’s Ale markets this beer as “the hero no one asked for but the beer everyone deserves,” and it’s easy to see why. It’s not just about the name’s irreverence; it’s about crafting a beer that stands out in a crowded IPA landscape. The brewery’s Instagram showcases the beer’s vibrant, cloudy pour, often served at local spots like The Nest Kennesaw, Westside Motor Lounge, and Mellow Mushroom, where fans have praised its drinkability and bold hop character.

Reviews on Untappd highlight its appeal. One drinker, Valerie Mueller, called it “excellent” and one of her favorites, while others have earned “Haze for Days” badges for sipping this cloudy delight. Posts from late 2023 show it pouring at various Atlanta-area taprooms, with fans snapping photos of its golden haze and raving about its juicy profile.

The Affleck Connection: Why the Name?
The name Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth stems from Printer’s Ale’s cheeky take on Affleck’s Batman role, particularly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. They’ve noted his “freakin’ huge” mouth as a visual quirk, but the beer isn’t a roast—it’s a celebration of fun, bold choices, much like Affleck’s own career. From Oscar-winning screenwriter (Good Will Hunting) to polarizing superhero, Affleck’s journey mirrors the beer’s audacity: it’s unapologetic, divisive, and undeniably memorable.

The brewery’s lighthearted jab also taps into a cultural moment. Affleck has long been meme fodder, from “Sad Affleck” videos to paparazzi shots of him smoking or spilling Dunkin’ coffee. Yet, he’s also been open about his struggles with addiction and fame, earning empathy from many. This beer, in a way, captures that duality—mocking the Hollywood caricature while offering something genuinely enjoyable to sip on.

Where to Find It
Available exclusively on draft in Atlanta and surrounding areas, Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth is distributed through Atlanta Beverage in Georgia. Check Printer’s Ale’s Instagram (@printersbeer) for updates on where it’s pouring next. Popular spots include Printer’s Ale’s own taproom, IPPS, and La Trattoria: A Classic Italian Kitchen, where it’s been a hit with locals.

Final Sip
Printer’s Ale has crafted more than just a beer with a headline-grabbing name. Ben Affleck Has A Big, Fat, Stupid Mouth is a well-executed NEIPA that balances humor with quality. It’s a reminder that craft beer can be playful without sacrificing substance, much like a good Affleck flick—love him or hate him, you can’t look away. So, grab a pint, raise a glass to bold choices, and enjoy this hazy hero that’s as juicy as the gossip it’s named for.

August 1, 2024 by Dustin Scoggins

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Genesee Brewery recently announced that it has invented a new season, a New Yorker’s perfect season, sum-all. Sum-all is the season between August and October where New Yorkers beg for sweater weather while savoring the last days of summer. And in true Genesee fashion, brewery officials announced the first official sum-all beer: Genesee Black Cherry Vanilla Kellerbier! Black Cherry Vanilla Kellerbier will be available later this week in 12-packs of 12-ounce cans and on draft at select locations.

It’s Officially Sum-all Starting August 1

Genesee is leaning into its tradition of releasing seasonal beers before you can even flip your calendar by crafting the new, official sum-all season.

“Sum-all is all about celebrating the best of both seasons and embracing the juxtaposition this time of year offers. Fall beer in August? Makes sense to Genesee! Flannel swim trunks? You got it. Maple hot dogs? Well, you decide… Genesee is all about giving the people what they want,” said Benning. “And while we don’t control the weather or the thermostat, Genesee can offer liquid relief, no matter the season!”

Yazoo Brewing Brings Back Its Hop Project Series, With a Twist

April 17, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – To celebrate its 20th year of brewing in Nashville, Yazoo Brewing is bringing back a crowd favorite, its ever-evolving Hop Project series of IPAs, but with a new twist. The “Impy Hop Project” series will again focus on new trends and innovations in the world of hops, but at a higher abv of 7 %, and only on draft and in large-format 19.2 oz “stovepipe” cans.

“We ended our original Hop Project series when we decided we had found the perfect blend of hops, retiring it after eighty-six different variations over ten years”, said Linus Hall, co-owner of Yazoo Brewing. “But the world of hops has continued to evolve, with new varieties from all over the world – not only Oregon and Washington in the U.S., or Germany, or England, but places as far-flung as Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Plus, new developments in yeast selections can bring amazing new flavors from traditional hops. We had so many new ideas that we decided to bring back the Hop Project series.”

But why in the 19.2 oz “stovepipe” cans? “We were getting a lot of interest in a locally-brewed, higher-abv IPA in 19.2 oz cans from our retail partners, who are seeing a growing demand for single-serve cans”, said Linus. “For now, that’s the package size we are going with. It’s a great package to pick up and share with a friend or two, without having to commit to buying a whole six-pack.”

Impy Hop Project, as Yazoo is calling the new series, will soon be available everywhere Yazoo is sold, but is initially rolling out in middle Tennessee area Kroger’s. Each batch will be a unique beer, with a QR code on the label leading to a description of the special blend of hops, or the novel process or ingredients that went into the creation.

About Yazoo Brewing

Yazoo Brewing has been producing local craft beer in Nashville since 2003, and takes pride in being a Nashville Original for the past 20 years. For more information, check out the Yazoo Brewing website, call 615-891-4649, or stop by the taproom at 900 River Bluff Dr, Madison, TN.

Bavarian IPA is New Name for Chuckanut New World Ale

April 13, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

BURLINGTON, Washington – Once Chuckanut Brewery heard about the growing trend in the German craft brewing scene to use the name Bavarian IPA (BIPA) there was a realization that Chuckanut New World Hop Ale was just that. Using new world hops and malts from the Bavaria region in Germany Chuckanut’s New World has been renamed as Chuckanut Bavarian IPA (or BPA for short). The new German varietals, Calista and Ariana, hops are blended with Weyermann Pilsner & Barke Munich Malts to create an easy-drinking, aromatic IPA style of ale. Most traditional IPA styles were started in England and the USA but this new style comes out of Germany!

Bavarian IPA is a more subtle IPA than other IPA’s due to the use of German hops and the terroir that it imparts on the IPA style. The bitterness level is slight but the hops impart a citrusy flavor and aroma. BIPA is great with slow-roasted pork, bratwurst, veal or a fresh salad! Blonde in color, with a sessionable 5.1% ABV, Bavarian IPA is a great any-time of-day beer. Find it now at both Chuckanut locations and selected accounts in the NW on tap or in cans.

Chuckanut Brewery brews award winning Lagers and Ales and has won Large Brewery of the Year at WA BeerAwards 2017, 2019 and 2021 and Small Brewery at the GABF 2011. The production facility and Tap Room is in Skagit Valley at 11937 Higgins Airport Way, Burlington, WA. Chuckanut Brewery’s P. Nut Beer Hall is at 920 SE Caruthers St, Portland. Both locations welcome guests of all ages and have indoor and outdoor seating!

Chatham Brewing Creates New Look for the “Storm Series” IPAs

April 12, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

HUDSON VALLEY, New York – Chatham Brewing, Columbia County’s first and finest brewery in New York’s upper Hudson Valley, has spent all winter brewing up their Storm Series’ new look. This is the brewery’s first time relaunching an entire series of classic beers with a cohesive look, while also introducing one new brew to the batch.

The collection features five vibrant cans: Nor’ Eastah, one of Chatham Brewing’s most popular IPAs; Bombogenesis, loved by all as “Bombo,” a staple DIPA from the brewery; and three fruited/fruit forward Double IPAs (DIPA) popular with customers with the same hop profile as the classic Bombo: Mango, Pineapple, and one new addition to the collection.

Making its much-anticipated debut is Grapefruit Bombogenesis, a new release joining the Bombo family in cans later this April. Insiders have been filling growlers for the past month, singing its praises.

The cans’ colorful new look demands attention with eccentric storm tracker imagery and bold text. The label artwork speaks to the power and intensity of Upstate New York weather, a nod to the brewery’s roots while putting Chatham on the map. By paying tribute to the winter storms that impact the region, Chatham Brewing has crafted striking visuals for flavorful beers that not only maintain the same great taste, but also hold a special meaning for locals and visitors alike.

“We are thrilled to finally unveil the new look of the Storm Series,” said Tom Crowell, co-owner of Chatham Brewing. “It’s gratifying to know that our Nor’ Eastah and Bombo beers have resonated with our fans for years, so there was no need to change the taste of our classics. After months at the drawing board this winter, these label designs capture the essence of our craft and the power of winter storms, making them stand out on the shelves. We’re excited to add this new edition to the flavored Bombo lineup. With bright, fruit-forward flavors, Bombo Grapefruit fits right in with Bombo’s Mango and Pineapple DIPAs, while still bringing a unique and refreshing taste to the collection.”

Bombogenesis Grapefruit is a red grapefruit infused, double dry hopped (DDH) DIPA with Mosaic, Citra, and Simcoe hops. With fruited, fresh notes and an 8.5 percent ABV, Grapefruit joins Mango and Pineapple in time to become a summer season favorite.

Nor’ Eastah and Bombo are two long-time top sellers at the brewery, earning them year-round placement on the shelves. Available in cans since 2017, Nor’ Eastah is a popular unfiltered IPA with an ABV of 6.5 percent featuring Mosaic, Citra, and Simcoe hops. Bombogenesis Double IPA is brewed with the same hop profile as Nor’ Eastah and features an 8.5% ABV. The can’s first release coincided with the bombogenesis effect of Winter Storm Stella, which resulted in more than two feet of snow falling in and around the Hudson Valley.

Chatham Brewing offers a wide collection of year-round and seasonal craft beers and seltzers. Bombogenesis Mango and Bombogenesis Pineapple are cyclic with the warmer seasons but make returns throughout the year.

The Nor’ Eastah cans debuting the series’ new look are the first to hit the shelves, available now. The rest of the Storm Series collection’s cans can be found at local retailers, bars, and at Chatham Brewing later this season.

Belching Beaver Brewery Adds Terpene-Focused Tropical Terps IPA To Core Lineup

April 6, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

OCEANSIDE, California— Oceanside’s Belching Beaver has added a core beer to its lineup called Tropical Terps IPA, a re-release of the brewery’s Dam Good Decade Terps IPA from its 10th anniversary celebration in October 2022. It is the company’s first core beer that uses terpenes, which are aromatic compounds naturally found in citrus fruits, pine trees, hops, and cannabis.

Tropical Terps IPA has a 6.6% alcohol-by-volume (ABV) and includes Simcoe, Mosaic, Strata, and Citra hops. Terpenes bring to the juicy IPA new flavors and aromas that are unattainable from hops alone, featuring tropical notes of melons, mango, guava, and pineapple. The terpenes used for the beer were not derived from cannabis.

“We received so many compliments last year from the initial batch of Brewmaster Troy Smith’s new brand that we decided to make it a part of our core,” said Co-Founder and CEO Tom Vogel. “Troy and his team are always pushing the boundaries of beer and they love creating new and amazing styles like with Tropical Terps. He not only designed the beer, but the label as well. This really is a game changer. I am sure we will see more terpene-focused beers throughout the country in the years ahead.”

Tropical Terps IPA is available on draft and in six packs of 12-ounce cans at Belching Beaver’s four San Diego County locations: Oceanside Brewhouse, Vista’s Pub980 and Tavern & Grill, and North Park Tasting Room.

“We are not the first brewery to do this, though not many have tried,” Smith said. “Since beer has been around for thousands of years, we are always trying to push the limits of what defines a good beer. Showcasing something new and innovative is the goal, and I believe both hard-core and casual beer drinkers will enjoy our latest creation that has flavors they may have never tasted before.”

Belching Beaver beers are distributed to 12 states outside of California, including as far away as Wisconsin and Texas. Head of Production and Quality Manager Thomas Peters, who joined the brewery in 2013, oversees all beer production at the company’s Oceanside manufacturing facility and four brewery/retail locations.
