Marin Brewing Releases Arnebräu Lager

December 17, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

LARKSPUR, Calif.— Marin Brewing’s Brewmaster Arne Johnson is pleased to announce his next great beer, the one he named after himself, Arnebräu. This beer takes its inspiration from Johnson’s first trip to Munich, Germany.

While visiting a number of the beer gardens in Munich last summer, Johnson enjoyed a few liters of the local Munich-style Helles Lager and found love after multiple sips.

The goal from that moment on was to conduct reconnaissance, or “drinking” as they say in the business, to ensure he would return home with a lasting impression. He wanted to recreate his own version of the lager, come Helles or high water.

“I didn’t have much respect for the Helles Lager style of beer until recently. It seemed to lack the flavor intensity that I seek in beer,” Johnson said, “but as I came to understand that Helles was all about balance, clean flavors, subtlety, and drinkability, I had my epiphany.”

Six months later, Johnson has presented his first interpretation of the style, and the first beer brewed at Marin Brewing Company to be named after the brewmaster himself!

Brewed with Heirloom varietal malts from Weyermann Maltings in Bamberg, Hallertau Mittelfrüh Hops and the Augustiner yeast strain, Arnebräu is lagered for a full five weeks. The brew has all of the qualities of the classic Munich beers, but much fresher and more vibrant than any of the beers that are imported here from Germany.

Arnebräu is now available on tap, in five-gallon and half barrel kegs.
